“The Plumber”
Monday night snowstorm and dinner with Willy while Juanita attends her music class in the “drum room”--formally known as my brother Gus’ room.
Willy pauses in between bites of pot roast smothered in gravy, “Your brother came by the other day. Told your mother and I we should watch a movie called the Plumber. So we did.”
He takes another bite, chews, and glances around the table as if he’s finished the story.
Gus and his wife have what some would say is a bit of an eclectic taste in movies. They love old B movies, classic horror movies, anything zombies... generally darker fair, a bit oddball. In fact, my brother proposed to her dressed as Frankenstein.
I take a sip of beer, watching Willy. Waiting. This could go anywhere from here.
He takes a sip of his red wine, the glass filled with ice cubes. Clears his throat. “I spoke with him today when he called. Told him we watched the Plumber. Do you know... what he said?”
I slowly shake my head.
“He said HE never told us to watch it!”
I know I never told them to watch it. Never heard of it.
He toys with the stem of his glass, looking at the wine and light reflections, then adds, “You know the problem with these masks? They muffle things.” He pauses, locks eyes with me. “He says he told us to watch the Punisher.”
I grin. “So... the Plumber?”
“Was good. Czech film. Like a character sketch. Guy’s a bit of a nut. Think you wanna watch it?”
