just went to the shop to get mushrooms for dinner and realised something that explains why the space sequence in 8-3 is so jarring.

so ofc its a thing that v1 intentionally reduces its viewing resolution to maximise processing power for combat, aka lore reason for the low poly style. its charming! most people also know about it this is worth reminding you of is because that is The Style of ultrakill, right up until we hit the false exit 8-3. it fucks you up real bad[very cool] because holy shit Thats Space, its so detailed theres so much to look at so much is going on- which is the exact point im making. that space background is realistic, and not something that exists anywhere else in ultrakill. even the water and lighting textures are low poly! the nearest we get to a less low poly style is providence i'd say, which even then is crispy in a familiar way. the buildings/platforms are all the same low poly style, and v1 [what we can see of it], and the enemies too, including the powers- who, if any entity was going to break that pattern in this level and prove that v1 had potentially upped its processing or something, gabriel's immediate followers [who've spent more time in heaven than he has lately] would be it i'd say

so. in short, that realistic interpretation of space is v1's low resolution render. the absolute minimum it can process while still being able to see.

what a fucking fantastic way to display the absolute unknowable unprocessable vastnessness of mind bending bullshit in that segment. ten out of fucking ten
