my favorite way to approach megatarn is "gone horribly right", where megs DID groom tarn and did everything in his power to turn him into the perfect decepticon but he didn’t expect tarn to fall in love with him in the process, his grooming worked a little TOO well
I agree with you, what you're saying is very hurtful when you think about it deeply.
My friend and I have been talking about Megatarn for months and have come up with a lot of scenarios and ideas, and generally, thinking of them as humans helps us to delve deeper into the matter. For example, we imagined Damus's father, Quarterus, and mother, Factorica, as drug-addicted scumbags who didn't value their children, and gave them names that suited their personalities. (Maybe I'll explain it in more detail someday.) One day, Quarterus dies in an elevator accident at the mine where he works, and because of the debts, his young and inexperienced son, Damus, is forced to take his place... and that's where Damus meets D-16.
Dee is a strong and gentle young man who lives in the mines with his father, Terminus, and is slightly older than Damus (Safetia, whom we assume to be Dee's mother, dies during her son's birth; the government wants to take Dee from Terminus, the head miner who is constantly forced to work in the mines, but Terminus doesn't allow it, and then they assign the child to the father as if he were property; Terminus is forced to raise his son in the mine with his other friends).
Anyway, the two meet here, and Damus develops an admiration for Dee from the first day he sees him. Over time, this admiration turns into an obsession, and this obsession turns into love (actually, Damus realizes he's in love with Dee a little late). When Dee is taken from the mines by the Sentinel because of him unconventional writings, Damus, left alone, suffers an accident similar to his father's, resulting in terrible damage to the frontal lobe of his brain, causing many of his senses to become dulled. However, his love for Megatron becomes stronger than before, even pathological...a severe obsession.
When the two reunite, many things have changed, but Megatron never forgets Damus, and Tarn hates the child he was in the past, Damus, because he considers him weak and too emotional (also, the miners called him "Glitch" to bully him in the mines), and Tarn never wants to appear weak to Megatron.
