The New Year’s in North Wildwood Mummers Brigade & String Band Show event has been postponed to September 11-12, 2020. Both the top Mummers Brigades AND top Mummers String Bands from the New Year’s Day Parade in Philadelphia will entertain crowds in the pub district of North Wildwood. The excitement kicks off Friday night at 6 p.m. with the Fancy Brigade Pub Crawl through local drinking establishments in the North Wildwood Entertainment District. A colorful Mummers parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday along Olde New Jersey Avenue where you can get up-close views of the beautiful costumes and intricate dance steps. (Fancy Brigades begin at 3 p.m. and the String Band Grand Finale begins at 4:30 p.m.) Rain date is Sunday. Admission is FREE, so come join in the fun and learn the famous Mummers Strut!

The Mummers Museum announced on their Facebook page that the annual Thursday Night String Band concerts held at the Mummers Museum have been indefinitely suspended. Their statement reads:

The Mummers Museum in conjunction with the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association have decided to indefinitely suspend the Thursday Night String Band Concerts. In a joint and socially distanced meeting, String Band Association President, Sam Regalbuto and Mummers Museum President, Rusty Martz both agreed to follow the City of Philadelphia and the State of Pennsylvania’s continued restrictions on social distancing and gatherings. Unfortunately for the foreseeable future gatherings such as the concerts will not be permitted. We will continue to keep you updated with any changes as they occur. Please stay safe and stay well. We will strut again soon!

Ferko String Band – Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall – New Years Day 2005

The Greater Overbrook String band announced on Facebook that they decided to no longer participate in the Philadelphia Mummers Parade. The band cites declining membership, increasing costs, and the tireless work required to be a viable band as the reasons they will no longer perform in the Mummers Parade. Even though Greater Overbrook String Band will not be performing in the Mummers Parade, they will be starting up anew as a retirement string band beginning the end of March. The Greater Overbrook String Band has been a participant in the annual Philadelphia Mummers Parade since 1931.

The Trenton Artists Workshop Association (TAWA) will present the photography exhibition “Mummers X 2” at the Trenton Free Public Library January 11 through February 28.

A reception with the photographers is Saturday, January 18, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

“Mummers X 2” features 29 photographs of one of the oldest folk art events in the United States, the annual Mummers Parade in Philadelphia.
