Sometimes I gotta hype a girl up.
Sometimes I wake up thinking of Lenny Kravitzâs home nightclub.
If I were a film studio head Iâd be moving heaven and earth to produce a buddy spy comedy with these two.

For Black History Month I want to remind my fellow Canadians of âCanadaâs First Lady of Jazzâ Eleanor Collins. A member of The Order of Canada, the first woman to host a national TV show (The Eleanor Show on CBC in 1955), and honoured with her own stamp from Canada Post, she lived to the glorious age of 104 and leaves behind a powerful and inspiring legacy.

My friendâs son found this on YT. Over a decade ago I posted about my experience working with Jensen Ackles in a bit part on Supernatural. He directed this scene and called me and the other actor by our first names. In the script we were merely âYoung Punkâ and âKorean Owner.â But he went out of his way to memorize our real names. Most stars donât know the names of bit players when we come on set. Classiest lead actor ever.
Forgot to mention I was invited by Marvel to write the introduction to their sweet collection MARVELâS VOICES: IDENTITY. You can read it here.Â

Hi! I see you talk a lot about music of the eighthies, and someway, I find it utterly necessary to ask you about The Smiths. A band where the singer is crazy in love with Oscar Wilde can not get unnoticed for a Literature teacher.
Hi Thegreatnancy,
Nothing in my youth broke my heart like the breakup of The Smiths. Every year, I play The Smiths after school in my classroom hoping beyond hope that there will be one student who gets their music. The last student who perked her ears up and asked, âWho is this?â was one of my Lit 12 seniors from 2001. Sheâs a Facebook friend now and, to this day, has great taste in music. Morrissey may be a bit of a loon these days, but âCemetery Gatesâ is what introduced my friends and me to the wit of Oscar Wilde. And I would give all my front teeth to play half as brilliantly as Johnny Marr. There will never be another band that combines literary irony, over-the-top melancholy, and shimmering melodies the way The Smiths did in the 80s. The closest was The Verve, but then they broke up as soon as they really got going. Seems you can have only so many insanely talented men in one room before their egos start brimming over into one another.Â
Thanks for that stroll down memory lane. Iâm going to make dinner for my partner and have her listen to The Smiths as I paint for her every moment for which these songs provided the soundtrack to my teen years.Â
