Involved: Mercedes Evans, Samuel Evans, Sierra Evans, Sean Evans, Samuel Evans Jr., Samaria Evans, Seth Evans, & Sage EvansÂ
Location: Evanâs Estate; Miami, Florida
Time Frame: Christmas Day, December 25hÂ
Notes: The Evansâ receive a Christmas surprise from Samuel.Â
Mercedes groaned slightly, a heavy sigh leaving her lips as she grabbed her robe and put it on. She lazily pulled her pressed hair into a ponytail before she exited her bedroom. She against her better judgement descended the stairs in her matching pjs, her slippers scuffing the marble floors. As she navigated through the large estate towards her kids, she took her time despite having held everyone back an entire hour as she slept. When she reached the massive living room where everyone was huddled she said âMerry Christmasâ faking the biggest smile as she found an open seat and plopped down against the couch lazily.Â
Samuel lounged. Feet propped on the foot rest. He had been skirting the area between being awake and sleeping for nearly an hour. One arm wrapped around Sage as she sat close to his side on the couch. Even with a tree overflowing with gifts, she still hovered close to him, as they waited for Mercedes. He popped one eye open as his wife joined them. He grinned seeing her little wattle and simmering disdain for him just under the surface. All fake happiness for the kids on this Christmas morning.. âMerry Christmas baby.â He muttered sitting up in his seat. âAlright.. Letâs do this.â For the life of him he didnât understand why or how there were so many gifts under the tree. Their kids had literally everything. Spoiled brats. He thought, grinning.Â
Sierra sat with her phone in her hand texting away at her friends. Her mother was taking an awfully long time to get up with everyone and he was confused as to why. Well outside of being pregnant typically her mother was a holiday junky and Christmas happened to be her favorite. Something to her however, it had a lot to do with her father. When the woman did she show she said âfinallyâ exasperatedly âMerry Christmasâ she added as she moved to climb off the couch.Â
Sage sat waiting impatiently for her mother to join them downstairs. She was ready to open a gift, or something at all. She bit her lip looking up at her father as he fought tooth and nails to keep himself awake falling back into his arms. When her mother showed she said âyayâ happily hopping up âMerry Christmas mommyâ she said as she ran for the tree.Â
Mercedesâ did not reply back to Samuel instead she pecked Sageâs forehead gently before she scurried off. Mercedes pulled her feet up on the coffee table and leaned back into the couch, her hands cupping her belly. She watched as the children moved towards the massive amount of gifts she had to thank her friend for wrapping. Because she sure as hell hadnât.Â
Sean did his best nonchalant Samuel impersonation, while also keeping a close eye on the tree. He had adopted the I donât care attitude but truly he would be devastated if nothing under the Christmas tree was for him. He stretched elaborately, when his mother finally showed up. âMerry Christmas,'' he mumbled once his mom made it downstairs. Standing, he moved over to the tree stride deliberate, trying to be the last person to find a place closer to the tree.Â
Seth pointed to the biggest box under the tree, âthatâs mine.â He told SJ, with a grin.Â
SJ looked up from his phone and shook his head at his younger brother, âOnly if you ask for a Barbie Dream house.â He mouthed, chuckling. He looked up to his mother, God she was huge. âMorning mom.â He said, getting to his feet, he moved over and kissed his mother's cheek. God, his father was annoying. It was crazy but seeing his mother tired and sick all the time and knowing the cause of it only made him more and more aggravated with his dad. Dropping down next to Sean, âSierra has to hand out the first round of gifts.â He smirked at his oldest sister. Â
Samual moved over closer to Mercedes, as Sage vacated the couch, leaning over he kissed her cheek. âYou better talk to me, woman.â He fused. Hand going to her belly as he leaned in close âMerry Christmas⊠when are you guys coming to meet us?â He asked with a smile kissing her belly too. Hearing SJ cracking voice, he added to the den, âYou heard the man, Sierra. Hop to!âÂ
Samaria sat near the coffee table, her arms resting on it as she observed her spoiled siblings using every inch of the entitlement they obtained from their fatherâs strands of white genes to obnoxiously and insensitively greet their mother. She looked to her mom and said âMerry Christmas Mamaâ softly. Her mother could sleep the whole day and still look like a zombie, the only thing she was left to gather is that children sucked the life out of you. She slid closer to her mother near the other end of the couch curious to know what more they all could need.Â
Sierra looked at SJ and before she could protest and assert her dominance her father chimed in. She looked at him and then SJ âyes sirâ she said reluctantly and she grabbed what she knew were watch boxes for all six of them and she handed them out. âThis is from mom and dad of courseâ she told them all.Â
Mercedes raised a brow at Sierra, how ungrateful could the brat be. Shifting against the chair, she stretched her back lightly as Samuel approached her, looking at him she cut her eyes playfully. She offered a smile to Samria and SJ, as Samuel leaned down. Smirked, she answered for the children âwhen they are readyâ with a confident tone. Though she doubted that inwardly as she caressed her hand against a spot someone was kicking.Â
Sean leaned over and elbowed SJ, chuckling as their dad told Sierra to hand out the gifts. He looked up at Sierra with feigned innocence and took the box she offered. âThank you big sis. You are a real one.â  Â
SJâs chest stuck out. He rubbed his hands together Birdman style, eyeing his sister. âYou heard dad. The man.â He said, popping his collar, âhas spoken.â He chuckled as Sean did his bit, slapping him with both hands. For his part, he bit his lip and just took the box. Sierra wasnât going to take too much more teasing from them. He could see that much in her eyes.Â
Samuel looked up when his wife answered for the children she was yet creating, âStubborn. They get it honestly. Donât they?â He chuckled, leaning back to watch the kids antic by the tree. It reminded him of growing up in Georgia. There were never this many presents under their tree. Hell from the time the twins were born he rarely remembered getting anything. The silly, fun family stuff. Was always his present. He brought his hand to rest on top of Mercedes. After a hundred years of marriage she was still the apple of his eye. âLove you.â He said quietly. But meant the words to cover everyone in the room.
Sage hopped up and down accepting the gift thankfully and she ripped the paper from it immediately. Opening the box she saw the watch and said âniceâ sitting it on the ground she began to bounce on her toes again. âDaddy I wanna open this one, please!â She stressed pointing towards the big box she didnât care about a Diamond watch; she couldnât tell time anyway. She wanted toys!Â
âYepâ Mercedes said watching her children âit comes from their fatherâ she said bitterly at the thought. Licking her lips she continued to rub a circle against her belly, smirking at Sage. Mercedes looked at Samuel and said âI love you tooâ, it wasnât a lie despite her annoyance with him lately and sometimes nasty attitude. He was still and would remain the love of her life.Â
Sierra squinted at SJ as she sat down on the ground. She unwrapped the box and opened it to see a new Rolex âoooâ she said as she pulled it out and put it on her wrist. âThank you Mom, thank you Dadâ the materialistic Evans said happily.Â
Seth ripped the paper off the package. âYeah!â He said, opening the box. âThe ladies are going to love this one.â He put the watch on closing the clasp. âNow all I need is a new Gucci hat.âÂ
Samuel chuckled, âYeah, all me. Right.â He peeked Mercedes cheek again, shaking his head. âAlright.â Samuel entoned, willingly ready to give into Sageâs request, ây'all know the drill. Get to unwrapping! Samaria, your mom will be fine for a second.â He told the girl, reaching for her hand. âYou can bring her gifts over to her.â He pushed off the couch, towing Samaria along and moving to help Sage open her gifts.Â
It was a new watch, and she gathered that much. Samaria looked at it and then quietly closed the box sitting it on the coffee table. At her fathers words she looked up at him âbutâ she said softly, she wanted to tell him she was fine right where she was at. But bringing her mother her gifts wasnât a bad idea at all. So she moves her body, crawling through paper and around her knuckle headed brothers as she looked for gifts with her mothers name on it. When she found something she said âhere momâ at the nice sized box, bringing it over to her. Her father really always gave their mother the best Christmas gifts.Â
Sierra looked to her father and she moved, reaching under the tree again, âthis has the twins on itâ she said to her dad, confused. âCan I open it?â She asked curiously. How did the two people who didnât even have a room set up have gifts?Â
Sage gleamed happily as she continued to bounce, her doll long gone and covered in palate somewhere. âThe big one, the big one, the big oneâ she chanted as her father moved closer for her.Â
Mercedesâ pulled her legs down from the coffee table and she sat up on the couch once more. Sitting upright she looked at Samaria and smiled as the girl brought her a box, âthank youâ she told her mini-me lovingly. She looked at the tag and it was from her husband. She unwrapped the box and opened it to observe a confusing gift. âSam?â She questioned picking it up âwhy did you buy me a UM hat?â She said looking at him oddly, it was a kind gift. Not what she expected. She would always love her Miami family. But he knew she rarely went to a game these days. She preferred to send in a donation in their name much more.Â
Sean and SJ dove head first into the presents, both sat back on their heels only to realize both the gifts they retrieved were for Seth. Sucking their teeth at the same time, they pushed the box at the youngest Evanâs male. And went back to find gifts for themselves.
âThank you peasants.â Seth said, waving his brother off. He grabbed for the bigger box and started tearing off paper with abandon. Â
Samuel moved around to the tree grabbing the big box Sage had requested. Weaving around the mass of children, careful not to step on anyone, âYeah. Go ahead, Iâm sure they wonât mind.â He told Sierra with a toothy grin. Sitting the box down in front of Sage. âHere you go.â Samuel looked back toward his wife, noting what she had in her hand. âI was thinking we havenât been to a game in a while. We need to change that.â Holding up his hands, âHey everyone grab those boxes and open them up.â He smirked knowing full well all those boxes contained University of Miami ball caps and season passes.Â
Sage smiled up at her dad and happily began to rip at the paper covering the large box. As what she wanted appeared before her she screamed âyayâ she didnât care about anything else. Especially not what everyone else was talking about, she hugged the box before she dropped to her knees beginning her task of boxing the box.Â
Sierra smirked, opening the box and she pulled out matching outfits for the twins. âHow cute,â she said with a small smirk. She could never place her emotions about her mother and father having more children but seeing the awfully cute little outfits did warm her heart. At her mothers words she looked up and then over at her dad, she opened the box he directed them to. âDad, how did you get these?â She asked shocked, maybe her dad really did have that much pull. They didnât graduate from the school after all. âMy friends are not going to believe thisâ she said arrogantly as she snapped a photo of her pass and sent it into a group chat.Â
Mercedes looked at Samuel and smirked, it was. Sweet idea. That was the sight of the beginning of the rest of their lives. And truthfully it had become the location of the place that made Miami home for her. âThatâs sweetâ she said resting the hat back in the box, she looked at their children and smiled again. âFor you guys heâd do anythingâ she replied back to Sierra with a dimple creasing smile.Â
Samaria sat next to her mother opening the box and revealing the ball cap. âI like thisâ she said as she put it on her head. She combed her fingers through her hair, rarely strengthened but when it was, couldn't help but to do so. She then picked up the pass and showed her mom âlookâ she told her.Â
Sean put down the new video game he wanted and grabbed the box his father pointed to. It was stupid, and would make them look ridiculous but it was Christmas and for a change Sean stored his egotistical side. He looked around at his brother and sister, then up to his Dad. Placing the cap on his head. âWhere's yours pop?âÂ
SJ put the season pass lay around his neck and then put the Miami hat on. Holding his phone up he snapped a few pictures, then looked over at his father. âDad doesnât need one, he will be working.â He told Sean, pushing him playfully. Â
Samuel waited for everyone to get their boxes open, heâd prepared this speech for a moment and grin, clearing his throat. His thunder was taken slightly as his oldest son casually brushed his absence off with work⊠Rude! He reached down and pushed the boy's head, âYou mother is right as usual. I would do anything for you guys.â He rolled his eyes at his son, âSamuel Jr.â He stressed, âIs also right. Iâll be working.â He turned to his wife. âBaby, I hope you wonât be upset but I took a little bit of a pay cut. To be fair, they did double their normal starting salary for head coaches.â He smirked watching the womanâs face.Â
Mercedes looked down at the pass, she smiled âyour name is on itâ she said thoughtfully. Looking at SJ she gave him a not too pleased look before her eyes moved to Samuel. âWaitâ she said confused as she looked at him âyou are coaching UM football?â She said, confused. She stared at him waiting for a proper confirmation as she went through an array of emotions internally. There was âno wayâ she said shaking her head, that her husband would give up his job for her? He loved his job, despite her begging he left every time.Â
Sierra's mouth dropped âwhat?â She responded to his father. Did they all know what this meant? She would now be the coolest kid on campus? She would be UM royalty even the more. âOh my God!â She said happily as she opened up her Twitter app and began to type away. That entire campus was beneath her feet now.
Sethâs eyes went wide, without considering his actions he jumped up and threw himself bodily onto his father. âYouâre gonna be home. From now on?â He asked, hugging the man around the midsection tightly.
Samuel grimaced his hand patting Seth on the back. Confused. He never really thought the kids noted his absence. âYes.â He said to his youngest. Then looking at Mercedes. âYes.â He stressed, âI mean there are away games but for the most part I should be home for dinner. I figured we could make up for the salary drop with investments.â
Mercedes' eyes moved from Seth back to Samuel, âare you joking?â She asked. She was still a bit shocked and unbelieving. His last statement made her eyes drop to the floor âI donât know what to say?â She chuckled lightly, her chuckle masking her true emotions. She sniffled lightly, wiping a few tears away. She was happy of course she was, she wanted him home. She wanted him in Miami. And she needed him near rather he knew that or not. âAre you sure?â She sniffled as she wiped more tears.Â
Well shit, Samuel thought as Mercedes started to cry. He moved over to her, pulling a still attached Seth right along with him. If he hadnât been sure he was now. âYeah. The deal is done. The ink is dry.â He reached for Mercedes face wiping the tears away. âSay you love me.â He smiled with sad eyes. Heâd really been fucking up it seemed.Â
Mercedes' chin quivered lightly as he wiped her tears away. âOf course I love youâ she said as she leaned in to hug hug tightly. She squeezed him tightly as she began to cry a little more âthank you babeâ she told him, she didnât give a fuck about a difference in salary. She dreaded him being away, and loved him for giving up what she knew he didnât want to.Â
Seth stepped back and pushed his father forward. âHug my mother.â He ordered with a slick grin.Â
Samuel gave his child a happy apologetic smile then stooped gathering his heavily pregnant wife in his arms. âDonât thank me.â He said, into her messy hair, voice tightening. âI donât deserve it.â He should have done this years ago. The guilt of his delay twisting his stomach. It was like a drug, being a public figure. Only selfishness made him put it off. A character flaw. Yet, this woman loves him anyway. He hugged her even tighter.Â
Mercedes continued to hold onto Samuel as she sniffled, she pulled back watery eyes staring at him as she kissed him deeply. âThis is an amazing Christmas gift,â she told him seriously. âI love you so muchâ she said, filled with pure joy and peace finally. She could worry less knowing heâd be closer to her, to the children and that she didnât have to live in fear for the rest of her pregnancy.Â
Samuel accepted her kiss, as if heâd ever deny them. As she pulled away, he held her waist and rested his hands on either side of her belly. Looking down into her hazel eyes, shame caused him to look away. âYou deserve- I love you more.â He said honestly, adding another peek to her soft lips. She did deserve better but saying felt wrong. Placing his forehead against Mercedes, he made a silent promise to actually do better, by his wife and family.Â
Samuel: took long strides, trying to catch up with his wife. He smiled opening his arms out, "Baby." He grinned, which was meet with a scornful face. Oh shit, he thought knowingly. The door closed and Samuel shook his head, "The stairs it is then." He groaned, jogging up the stairs.
Mercedes: rode the elevator up and she stepped out of it when the doors open. She walked from one side of the home to the next, passing the double stairs as she did. She sighed "yes I will do that" she said, "okay, bye" she added hanging the phone up. Mercedes tucked her phone into her Birkin bag turning the corner to the master bedroom. She opened the door to it and closed it, hopefully in Samuel's face.
Samuel: chuckled at the woman She was clever and honest. All things he could respect. "Honesty, I like that." he said nodding in appreciation. "And what's your major?" He asked raising an eyebrow, with a smirk, raising up to his full height. "I guess we'll find out..." He kissed Sage once more, "Olivia." He said, headed towards the elevator.
Olivia: "Early Childhood Education" she replied to him, smirking she gave him a thumbs up as she moved back to her task.
Mercedes: "He wasn't suggesting bed rest" she told the woman, pressing the button. She gripped the file filled with her medical information in it and climbed onto the elevator pressing the up button. "Depends" she said thereafter with a tired huff, his largely heavy purse in the crook of her arm. "No, he's never here" she said deliberately looking at her husband as the door closed.
Samuel: sighed, "I know. Man, that would really disappoint her." He told his daughter shaking his head. he laughed, kissing her cheek again as Sage set to work, immediately. Samuel inadvertently followed the woman's hip with his eyes. "So, Ms. Olivia. I'm Samuel. Seems you have won over two of my daughters. That's no easy feet." He said conversationally, "You're a bit young to be a nanny. How long have you doing this line of work?" He asked trying to figure out what the hell Mercedes was thinking.
Olivia: turned to meet the man "nice to formally meet you" she told him. "I happy I did" she told him nodding her head "I've been babysitting since I was like 12" she chuckled. "I kind of wiggled my way into this position, helping another rich family" she said leaning against the counter watching him. "They advised it, better pay, better perks" she said with a laugh. "It helps me afford school. I'm really good. I won't disappoint" she added.
Mercedes: pulled into the driveway, seeing her husband's car. She opened one of the many garage doors and pulled the foreign car inside. Climbing out she closed the garage and moved into the house shutting the door. "Yeah, I will hop to that" she lied as she replied back to her ex-coworker on the phone. "Can't stress what you can't change" she added as she walked pass the kitchen, towards the elevator.
Samuel: grinned, going do to Sages level to squeezing her tightly. "I missed you more." He told her truthfully. Damn, the woman was as pretty from the front as she was from the back. Got damn... "You don't want to? Sad..." Samuel pouted, "I wanted to go out on the boat this afternoon. I guess I can't since my co captain hasn't finished her work." He said, winking conspiratorially at the new nanny.
Sage: gasped at her father "the boat?" she asked him biting her lip hard. "But that's Star's favorite place to hide out" she told him. "Hm" she said as she sat down "excuse me Olivia, I have to do this" she said seriously as she picked up her pencil and began to write out her answers.
Olivia: looked at the little girl and father, folding her arms over her chest. She smiled at him, immediately it falling as the girl hopped to it. Whoa. "Thank you kindly, I will not stand in your way" she said moving aside and away from the little girl. "I will get your snack ready" she said as she moved to do so.
Samuel: followed the sound of people talking strolling into the kitchen. He stopped short in the doorway, caught of guard by the well formed woman talking to his daughter. There was no way in hell this was the new nanny. Moving further into the kitchen, "How about your buy you new doll clothes?" He chuckled coming up behind his youngest child. "Hey baby girl!"
Olivia: "But you know I don't know how to sew Sage" she said to her shaking her head, when she heard the man of the house she looked at him smiling. "Hi" she said curtly.
Sage: looked at the girl, her face she she didn't care and that is what it was going to take. When she heard her dad's voice she turned around surprised "daddy!" she said climbing down and hugging his form. "I missed you so much daddy" she told him looking up at him with a bright smile. "Daddy, this is nanny Olivia" she said holding his hand tightly in hers "she wants me to do H.W. but I don't want to" she said whispering, loudly, up at the man.
Samuel: "You're mother knows you run this house. She is supposed to tell you everything." He smiled, "I'll try. You know if I can I will right?" He said, standing her on her feet. With a skeptical chuckle, Samuel raised an eyebrow. He'd seen the friend tactic before. He wished the woman all the luck when she finally had to discipline the Evans' clan. "I'm happy you like her. I'm going to go find your sisters." He said, kissing the girl once more on the head.
Samaria: "I do" she asked him with a very amused and confused expression mixed into a huge smile. "Yeah" she said nodding her head, she knew her dad was someone important and she tried to not forget that. "Okay, I am going to go back to studying" she told him as she scurried off seeing Sean. "Hey Sean" she said, moving back to her spot on the floor and she picked her index cards up reading them.
Olivia: looked at Sage defeatedly "you know, your mom won't like it if we don't finish this" she told the youngest Evan's member. "We have to finish this worksheet before she gets bacK" she advised.
Sage: looked at the girl and said "no" again "I want my mom, or my daddy" she breathed as she hugged the doll to her chest. "I don't want to do my work" she added.
Olivia: "But everyone else did there's and you do too. Don't you want to be just like your brother's and sister's? They are all so smart and have such good grades" she tried to bribe.
Sage: raised her brow at the girl and said "Sean sucks at school, SJ is good at math but needs improvement in other places, and Seth's only A is art class the rest are B's?" quizzically.
Olivia: looked at the girl and she tucked her lips in "what is it going to take for me not to get in trouble here?" she asked her next.
Sage: thought to herself "hm" she said stroking her beard "can you make my doll new clothes?"
Samuel: "There my girl." he said, a huge smile coming to his face. "Where is your mother?" He shoved his phone in his pocket and picked up Samaria kissing her on the forehead. "What is new in Samaria's world?" Samuel questioned, carrying his daughter as he moved towards the den. Happy his wife had finally hire someone to help with the children. "Do you like your new nanny?" feeling confident she did.
Sean: grabbed their things and locked the car, moving into the home behind his father he watched the man for a moment. Then he sighed, moving to place the man's things in his room and his own belongings in his.
Samaria: grind widely at her father, years older but his strength had not failed him yet. "She didn't tell me, maybe she told Sierra or maybe the nanny?" she said curiously. "Nothing" she shrugged "I have a debate coming up, will you be there?" she asked him expecting a yes even if the real answer was no. "She's cool, she's like another Sierra to me" she shrugged again unfazed either way.
Samuel: nodded stockily at his son, "Don't sound so shocked. If a man works he eats. Right?" He asked pulling into the drive. He placed the car in park, glancing out of the front window. "We're home You can go back to calling me dad." He told Sean. Opening the driver's door he got out of the car and tossed the keys to Sean, "Get the bags." Samuel dug his phone out of his pockets as he made his way towards the house checking his messages. He opened the front door strolling in, "Baby! I'm home!" He yelled, gambling that someone would hear him.
Sean: nodded his head, he was going to get some spending money, that was great in his head. He climbed out the car and looked at his dad, missing the keys and picking them up off the ground. "Okay" he said simply to him as he did as he were told.
Samaria: sat on the the floor in the living room studying bullet points for the debate team. When she heard her father she looked up from her notes and sighed. Standing up she walked over to him and said "hi dad" easily moving in for a hug as always. "Mom's not here, but the new nanny is" she told him.
