Why I agree with Gilbert Arenas...
HELL NO!!! I don’t agree with anything that fool said!!
I really tried not to allow myself to be trolled by what’s his name.
Here’s my issue: We are elite athletes. We provide basketball to the world at it’s purest form. We have a platform that gives girls, like his daughters, something to aspire to.
Truth be told, he’s not the only one who feels that way. And that’s fine. My problem is the blatant, sexist, disrespect and how socially irresponsible his comments were.
First of all, this hits home for me. This ignorant way of thinking is the root of why my image consulting business was born. There are many stereotypes associated with women’s basketball. So what? WE BALL!! If you’re watching the WNBA solely for eye candy, which we have PLENTY of, or barely there uniforms, which sounds ridiculous, you need to tip-toe right out of the arena because we’re about our BUSINESS and this is not the sport for you!
Here we are trying to level the playing field as it relates to gender equality. We have someone like Agent ZERO…our whack-azz counterpart, an ex-NBA player, a black man, with daughters, not to mention, the mother of his children played ball so I’m REALLY confused…pouring so much foul, negative, energy into the league that we are trying to build and uphold so your daughters may have something to aspire to being products of athletic parents.
Gilbert No Arenas, do you realize that you are discouraging young women from being active, venturing into a new sport, having opportunities to meet new people, gaining confidence and self-esteem, being social, experiencing a team setting (corporate America LOVES former student-athletes), being supported by fam and friends, traveling the world, earning a free education, being shaped into stand-up women, becoming valuable assets to society through sports, and the list goes on!! We’re less likely to have low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, and more likely to withstand bullying. (Interestingly enough, your comments fall in the bullying category.) It’s deeper than rap, Dilbert!! Your comments were reckless!! There are girls that had every intention of trying out for the basketball team and because of your foolery, she’s not. So you’re stifling the next generation which includes your daughters, dummy! The opportunities that you and I have been afforded through pro basketball are endless so why wouldn’t you want that for your daughters regardless of what she or her teammates look like??
Second of all, when was Dilbert on the “Damn, he fine!” All-NBA Team??? I think I can speak for all women when I say, we were NEVER checking for you, boo boo! Now Dilbert, when I played in Chicago, you used to workout at our practice facility, many a time have I seen you staring a little too hard, so STAAAHHHP!!! You love it!
I’m not even gonna add any pictures to this post because that doesn’t even matter anymore. I was offended by your small thoughts and opinions and I’m most definitely not one of the “ugly” ones. Sad to say we can’t say the same for you…DON’T COME FOR US, Dilbert!!
