I like being involved in interesting and creative things. Iâd just rather be involved in creating it, rather than being in it. - Karen Gillan
24 / MEDIUM / MIDTOWN Â / LESBIANÂ

THE Â O U T S I D E R
Madelaine (or Maggie as she rather calls herself) grew up in South Colorado as an only child, raised by her mom alone as her dad walked out on the family when she was only two years old; this leaving them in a tight economic situation that followed Maggie throughout her childhood. As she grew older Maggieâs mother started worry about her current state as she often found her daughter talking to herself inside her room â conversations that could have been taken for childish games if the conversations hadnât ended up being about Maggie herself and her mom always described it as she was talking to an old dear friend about her day. When her mother confronted her daughter about these conversations Maggie calmly explained that she wasnât talking to an imaginary friend but to different people that passed through or lived in their house, but who couldnât be seen by just anyone. What neither of them knew back then was that she had the ability to see and communicate with the spirits of dead people.
As she grew older her abilities grew with her, together with her thirst to figure out the unknown and the secrets behind the afterlife. Though, as one could have guessed, running around in school trying to brag about the fact that you can see ghosts never end well which was just what Maggie managed to do during her first week at school. Kids being kids some thought of it as âcoolâ and wanted to know more while some thought she simply made it up to get attention; but no matter what the attitude they all changed their opinion as times passed and Maggie soon got marked as the âweird one who talks to fake peopleâ. The teachers started to think her behavior had something to do with her economical problems at home and often tried to discuss it with Maggie. It wasnât until the start of middle school that she finally realized there were no use in trying to make people understand her abilities â mostly because they didnât want to believe it â and because her mom begged her to stop, threaten to send her child off to a freak show unless she stopped pretending to talk to people who werenât there. She bluntly refused to understand her daughter, finding more troubles in her behaviors and shortly found a way to hush her: she started to shame Maggie each and every time she dared speak up about her clairvoyance, telling her that was the reason her father had left and why no one would ever want to befriend her. It really didnât take long for Maggie to catch on and a heavy anxiety came to develop as a cause of it, pulling away from people one at the time to assure her mother held no more reasons to yell at her.
It wasnât until high school that she started to take things more seriously, doing more and more research in secret about psychic abilities, about how they worked and how you could improve them. She stopped listening to her momâs worries even if she stayed on a low level, knowing rather well that people either believed in life after death or they didnât. Things did however take a bright turn for Maggie as she met up with another girl named Serina who could view other peopleâs auras and read their energy. It didnât take long for the two of them to form a friendship that quickly moved over to something more. Serina and Maggie dated for almost half a year before they had to break up, Serina not feeling overwhelmed by the fact that Maggie couldnât seem to collect the nerve to tell her mom about her girlfriend. They decided they were better off as friends and stayed that way until the end of school.
Once high school was over Maggie had plans to wander off to college but quickly changed her mind when she stumbled over a medium that was helping out a family get rid of bad energy inside their home. Fascinated by the work he pulled off she started to wonder if she too could use her abilities for good and she decided to book a short meeting with the medium to discuss his career path. The medium ended up being equally as interested in Maggie and offered her a spot as his apprentice, seeing both potential and a driven force for the job. With that all her thoughts about college left her mind and she started to travel around with the medium across America to learn and finally understand her abilities; even against her motherâs demands. Her mentor made her feel safe, like she was whole and as if she finally had a purpose and it was a feeling she loved to cling to as if it was the end of the line.
It wasnât until she reached the age of 21 that she stumbled over one of the last jobs she would do as an apprentice, helping a family communicate with their lost mother and wife, and it was also there Maggie met the current love of her life â Lola, they both found a connection right away that lead them to take a coffee the day after. At first they decided to just stay in contact over the phone as friends but the more they talked the more they realized they wanted to give a relationship a shot, so Maggie decided to leave the medium behind to start off on her own. As she reached the age of 23 she and Lola were still equally as invested in their relationship, they decided it was time for them to move in together and found a nice smaller apartment in Atlanta where they have lived since. Maggie is currently working as a halftime medium, doing everything between helping people communicate with dead family members or friends to cleanse peopleâs homes out of bad energy; while also doing her best to maintain a small business on the side focusing on natural body products and herbs. However neither of these two provides much economical stability for the girl and it happens more often than not that she has to lean on Lola for support, which is far from what she wants for the couple. Her dream is to reach far and wide, grow stronger than ever before and overshine her motherâs negative emotions regarding her daughter, but itâs a long way to go.

Hang on, is that a planet out there? You promised me a planet. Five minutes?
â : Are there any recent/daily thoughts they have about death or dying?
As Maggie has a strong connection to the dead (the spirit realm or the other side, whatever you may call it) itâs impossible for her to ignore the topic of death even if she wanted to. It saddens her when she meet those who passed away far too young, those who wander and stay lost; when she doesnât have the skill needed to reach out and help. She knows she is going to join them one day, but until then she hopes to live a happy life far away from worries.Â
⯠: Do they believe for every darkness there is a lightness? If not, why?
No, she does not believe that. Though Maggie is a bubbly girl from the inside out, the many years growing up with her abusive mother and absent father has caused her to always wonder why. She hates when people tell her everything happens for a reason, because that only make it sound as her motherâs actions should be redeemed and she should be forgiven for what sheâs done. Maggie knows life has been unfair to her since the start, she deserves better but the only light she really has is the security and love from her girlfriend.Â
FEARS;
Like any other person Maggie Jackson has her fair share of fears, though sadly enough, most them have to do with her own mother. Once she settled in Atlanta with her girlfriend, she started to feel a strong calmness she is unable to explain. The place feels a bit magical to her and itâs odd to her to say that she likes it; however she has still to tell her mother about her new home. As of now, she still believes Maggie is out travelling with that old medium she met so many years ago by accident. When youâre 24 years old you shouldnât have to go to bed, covered by anxiety connected to your own mother finding out who you have settled down with and what career path you have chosen for yourself. But Maggie worries and she is not to stop, praying that her mother wonât find a way to pull her away from the things that makes her happy and safe. Lola does her best to sooth her girlfriend, but it doesnât always work even if Maggie often pretends it does. She knows Lola means well.Â
She also fears making a fool out of herself among people, thus she speaks with care and over analyse her own words before she even dares to open her mouth. Shouting will make her back down as she sees it as her own wrong doing, and she knows better than to trespass into a situation she canât control or repair. It happens that she ends up pulling the wrong strings, as her high empathy and ability to read a room with the help of spirits, makes it hard for her not to meddle in anotherâs business. She wants to help others find peace, while she constantly fears losing her own.Â
