Ridiculous Project
I am a fiber fangirl.  What this means is that I love making stuff with anything that qualifies as fiber.  This includes but is not limited to yarn, cloth, and roving wool.  On a daily basis I am surrounded by knitting needles, yarn, sewing machines, felting needles, roving wool, and so much fabric.  I am happy this way; being surrounded by my inspiration, tools, and materials is exhilarating.  But thereâs one tool that isnât in my arsenal that I have craved for quite some time.  A loom, I did a one month intensive weaving workshop right after I graduated from college, and I havenât been on a loom since.  I loved the workshop, I would spend 10 hours or more on a loom everyday and I wouldnât have had it any other way.  But now itâs been years and I still donât have one, and given my current financials I definitely canât buy one.  They tend to run over 500 dollars, especially for a nice one.Â
So I gave up, and continually scanned craigslist in hopes that someone might be willing to give away a functional loom. Â Then during my internet wanderings I found this post. Â For those that donât feel like clicking itâs an old wordpress post about how to build a loom out of cardboard. Â A very nice 8 shaft loom, meaning I could weave many fancy weaves. Â If I can build it, which is the ridiculous project. Â The post isnât super detailed on how some of the build is going to go, and it has some design points that I disagree with. Â Therefore along with the following the instructions and any other information I can possibly find, there will also probably be a good deal of me just making stuff up. Â Alright, letâs go.
