okay, except thatās literally not whatās happening at all.
whatās happening is this: a family took out loans against their mortgage in the early 2000s to pay legal fees for their teenage son. the son, William Kinley III (who now goes by William Nietzsche š), was driving recklessly on a suspended license. he blew through a stop sign and killed elderly person, and severely injured their spouse. William was charged with felony manslaughter among other things. he says his legal fees amounted to $26,000. the loan the family took out amounted to more than $90,000. itās worth saying that for reasons unknown, the loan they took out had a very high interest rate.
they faithfully paid their mortgage for 13 years. then in January of 2017 their loan was sold to a different company, then another. they claimed to have been confused about who to pay, so they decided to stop paying at all. they didnāt even ask for clarification until they were six months in arrears; they sent some weird, bogus, 44 page document to their mortgage company asking for proof that they needed to pay. the mortgage company responded the next month and sent them a huge pile of proof. they still refused to pay, now claiming that they were sovereign citizens who couldnāt be made to pay a mortgage on their own land. they refused to make payments for more than 18 months. (itās important to note that they initially said they werenāt refusing to make payments, just that they were holding the money in an escrow account until it was clear who they should pay it to. it was made very clear to them. they chose to not pay.)
in Oregon, the statutue requires lenders whose clients are facing foreclosure to attend a foreclosure avoidance program, in which a neutral mediator conducts a face-to-face meeting between a homeowner and their lender with the goal of avoiding foreclosure. they refused to attend, instead returning the form marked āvoid,ā with a letter signed by the mother, āJulie Anne, house of Metcalf Kinney, Sovereign living soul, holder of the office of āthe people.āā
the letter said she was āa declared living American sovereign standing with Treaty Law of God,ā and that the company had no jurisdiction āwithout an international treaty within My republic stateā and that the company was not chartered to do business in Oregon āby My republic state.ā William also sent the state of Oregon letters saying they have no right to give him foreclosure assistance on the basis of āYou have falsely accused me of being a citizen of the UNITED STATESā and āYou failed to state a lawful claim upon which relief can be granted.ā
their house was foreclosed in October of 2018, and it sold for $260,000. after what they owed was taken out, the family would have gotten the rest of that money, upwards of $100k. who knows what they did with it? it doesnāt matter, because itās not like they were cast out into the street. they actually have ANOTHER house in NE Portland that theyāre currently living in, which their family owns.
fast forward to the present. āprotestersā have been camping out at this neighborhood block for months, but in the last week, numbers ramped up significantly (fuck COVID, am I right?) and there is now a constant 24/7 occupation. the street is barricaded and neighbors have expressed that they are afraid to leave or return to their homes. the family has raised more than $300k in a GoFundMe, and the developer who bought their property is willing to sell them the house back at cost, because he and his family are receiving death threats.
all of this because William āNietzscheā killed a person, had legal fees to pay for, then decided he and his family were āsovereign citizensā to whom laws did not apply. theyāve scammed everyone āsupportingā them by tapping into Portlandās most widely available renewable resource, white guilt. did I mention that in March of this year, he was charged with two counts of animal abuse after several eyewitnesses saw him smacking two puppies so hard that they hit the wall of their house? or that in 2007, William was caught driving with a revoked license and possessing cocaine? he failed to appear in court multiple times, ultimately resulting in a warrant being issued. in May of 2010, he was again caught driving and arrested. when he went to court, the judge found him in contempt 12 times for interrupting and talking over attorneys saying things like he is āa remnant of the divine peopleā and āIām an endangered species to this continent.ā
Iām a radical leftist, too. housing is a human right, and no one should be evicted. I would love to claim Iām a sovereign citizen and stop paying my rent, but I canāt because thatās not how this shit works. this family was given chance after chance to get help, and they turned each opportunity down. they donāt deserve the whole cityās support. they sure as hell donāt deserve $300,000 that could go housing to much more worthy people instead. but Portlandās white leftists only saw, āBlack & indigenous family forcibly evicted from longtime family home by evil property developer in heavily gentrified, historically Black neighborhood,ā and not āknown scammer and literal terrorist* William Kinney III kills a man and sets off a chain of events that ends up in his family losing their house.ā
