Every Trump 1 era "let's speak to Trump voters" story was a guy in a diner saying "yesiree, I support his views on immigration completely. All these foreigners are makin' it hard for a workin' man like me" & then he'd turn out to be the owner of the largest luxury pool construction firm in Indiana. Every Trump 2 era "let's speak to Trump voters" story is twelve of the most gormless individuals you've ever seen saying shit like "I really disagreed with his 'murder Hank Murgatroyd' chants at his rallies, but I didn't think he would really do it, so I voted for him because he seemed like a pacifist compared to his opponent, who was Obama I think" - Hank Murgatroyd, Republican, Ohio
dear caretakers of children: stop telling kids “I don’t care who started it!”. you’re teaching children to ignore unequal power balances. that leads to legitimate belief in things like reverse racism, misandry, heterophobia, etc. you’re teaching children that it’s wrong to retaliate when they are wronged. “who started it” is very, very relevant.
ok this looks ultra mega based, are you kidding me? can you imagine the bullshit i could get up to with this bad boy? fuck yes i want ten
Wait are iPhone bros coping because Apple has to be more universal? Lol.
Boo hoo i'll be able to add more physical storage to my phone and be able to change out batteries if they degrade as well as all these other optional features I won't have to touch
Continuing in the trend of political cartoons depicting milquetoast moderate positions seem so much cooler and more badass than they are
I love how they add totally absurd things no one is asking for to make the idea look crazy. And still, I must emphasize, failing to make this look like a bad idea.
"Is this what you want? Is this ugly stupid bullcrap what you want??" the biggest loudest idiot in the room asks, holding up a picture of the hottest looking shit I've ever seen

Some people have asked me why I stand my ground concerning covid caution. I'm reminded of the people who asked me why I was so concerned with AI-enhanced cameras on cooler doors in the drug store and people who asked why I thought police brutality against Black Lives Matter protesters was a thing a white person should even be concerned about and people who mocked me for speaking about Obama's private drone campaign and people who belittled me for thinking George W. Bush creating ICE was a prelude to full-blown fascism and the people who ignored me when my tiny-little-child-ass was worried about climate change continuing unchecked and leading to massive global crisis and potentially an extinction event.

actually once you do vote by mail once, it feels STUPID that in-person voting is even a thing. getting to sit with your ballot in your house, easily see your options, have time to do research and consider your choice, talk with friends and neighbors about their vote. it's especially so for small local elections and primaries where you might not have heard about different candidates and really have to ask around, attend local events, or dig into local news stories to find out who they are and what they stand for. but, of course, not allowing voters to easily research and carefully consider their votes is why there is opposition to vote by mail in the first place.
According to the CDC, in 10 percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch the child do it, having no idea it is happening. Drowning does not look like drowning—Dr. Pia, in an article in the Coast Guard’s On Scene magazine, described the Instinctive Drowning Response like this:
“Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people’s mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.”
This doesn’t mean that a person that is yelling for help and thrashing isn’t in real trouble—they are experiencing aquatic distress. Not always present before the Instinctive Drowning Response, aquatic distress doesn’t last long—but unlike true drowning, these victims can still assist in their own rescue. They can grab lifelines, throw rings, etc.
Look for these other signs of drowning when persons are in the water:
Head low in the water, mouth at water level
Head tilted back with mouth open
Eyes glassy and empty, unable to focus
Eyes closed
Hair over forehead or eyes
Not using legs—vertical
Hyperventilating or gasping
Trying to swim in a particular direction but not making headway
Trying to roll over on the back
Appear to be climbing an invisible ladder
So if a crew member falls overboard and everything looks OK—don’t be too sure. Sometimes the most common indication that someone is drowning is that they don’t look like they’re drowning. They may just look like they are treading water and looking up at the deck. One way to be sure? Ask them, “Are you all right?” If they can answer at all—they probably are. If they return a blank stare, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them. And parents—children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

BOOST FOR THE SUMMER. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
Can I just say thank you to OP for putting such a detailed description on this?
I’ve been a lifeguard for 6 years now and of all the saves I’ve done, maybe two or three had people drowning in the stereotypical thrashing style. And even those, like the save I made last weekend, it was exactly like OP describes where the person’s head is going in and out of the water but it isn’t long enough to get any air. Mostly you recognize drowning by the look on someone’s face. If someone looks wide eyed and terrified or confused, chances are they’re drowning. That look of “oh shit” is pretty easily recognizable. And even if you can’t tell for sure: GO AFTER THEM ANYWAY. I’ve done “saves” where a kid was pretending to drown and I mistook it for real drowning, but that’s preferable to a kid ACTUALLY drowning.
Also please remember that even strong swimmers can drown if they have a medical emergency, get cramps, or get too tired. If your friend knows how to swim but they’re acting funny get them to land. And even if someone can respond when you ask them if they need help, if they say they do need help? GO HELP THEM.
However . If the victim is a stranger, I can’t recommend trying to get them. Lifeguards literally train to escape “attacks,” because people who are drowning can freak the fuck out and grab you and make YOU drown as well. If you do go in after someone, take hold of them from the back and talk to them the whole time. IF YOU ARE GRABBED: duck down into the water as low as you can get. The person is panicking and won’t want to go under water and should release you. Shove up at their hands and push them away from you as you duck under. Don’t die trying to save someone else.
Please guys, read and memorize this post. Not all places have lifeguards. Being able to recognize drowning is such an important skill to have and you can save someone’s life.
Just incase!
In a water park once, I was suddenly grabbed by a child and he dragged me under the water without warning. I was going to get angry with him when I resurfaced because I thought he was being an ass, until I looked at him go back in and out hyperventilating the entire time. I grabbed him under his arms and began trying to drag him out while screaming for the lifeguard.
When the lifeguard got us both out, a woman came running down and accused me of harming him and said he had been completely fine in the water. That there was no reason to drag him out of there. The lifeguard had to explain to her that her son had been drowning, to which her response was to say that she didn’t hear him call for help.
People seriously need to learn the signs.
http://spotthedrowningchild.com/ really demonstrates how easy it is to miss drowning
So, between the two of them, there are about 19 million people from the 2020 election that neither Harris nor Trump were able to mobilize last night. Mostly on Harris's side, who fell about 11 million short of what Joe Biden was able to pull together four years ago. You can call that anything you want, but the one thing you can't call it is insignificant.
To me, the lesson here is obvious. You cannot run a campaign that offers your base nothing but fear of your opponent and expect them to come out for you. You can't just pretend everything is fine the way it is when it's obvious most voters do not feel that way. Chasing after imaginary moderates does not work. This is actually the second time this has happened to Democrats. It's the exact thing that sunk Clinton in '16.
But just like last time, they're not gonna learn a thing from this. People like Carville are going to be running this party's elections for forever, and just like the last two times, primaries are going to continue to be set up in favor of unpopular, right of center party faces who are not capable of campaigning in a Post-Millenium world.
Before I say this, please understand that for me personally, my primary concern with election 2024 was to get rid of Trump and as many Republicans and Libertarians as possible.
That said, there are a host of valid reasons Harris lost: 107 days for a Black woman to run a campaign against Trump was setting her up for failure; racism; sexism; the DNC refusing to let a Palestinian person speak at their convention; foreign governments pouring money into the election (yes, I’m referring to AIPAC); Elon Musk using Twitter to push mis/disinformation; Kamala’s refusal to distance herself from Biden, a deeply unpopular candidate—but iMho, the greatest reason is the influence the Clintons still have over the Democratic Party
Clintonism and their obsession with “triangulating” with Republicans (read, capitulating to, acquiescing to, and forever chasing after conservative voters who won’t everrr vote for a Democrat, let alone a Black Democratic woman) has and will doom the Democratic Party perhaps for generations to come.
Remember when Nancy Pelosi did or said things like this:
Republicans fear their base. Democrats seem to disdain theirs. Republicans energize their base, centrist Democrats try to have it both ways; they try to court conservative Republicans and simultaneously demonize the progressive left.
Democrats have lost the presidency, the House, the Senate and the Judiciary branches of government. That should make them seriously reconsider their positions, but like OP said, it won’t - the only lesson they will learn from this election is that they should have gone further to the right.
I have no clue how Republicans convinced non-white voters that conservative billionaires have their best interests at heart, but I dO know that: 1) centrism and neoliberalism and Clintonism are not the answer, 2) Democrats have failed miserably at being a true opposition party, one that truly and reliably represents the downtrodden.
Just another reminder that Nancy Pelosi was a conservative shit ass piece of shit.
