i’d call hibiki’s father deadbeat but in truth, he doesn’t even have a single clue hibiki exists. when he met hibiki’s mother, it was (in his mind), a simple fling, since she stayed only as long as was needed to become pregnant, and afterwards, he’d never seen her again. if you’re wondering where he right now—- he’s still in brazil, though… whispers have it that a group of sorcerers from south america after shibuya have been roaming close to ibaraki prefecture.

i’m 100% gonna introduce hibiki’s mother as a muse you can interact with on this blog because i think it’d be neat! along with a drabble that explores her life between 1988 - 2005. give mamabiki the love she truly deserves after all the bullshit.

hibiki would have been such a momma’s baby. the type of child who wakes up and sits outside their mother’s room, waiting for her to wake up, so excited to whisper to the trees and animals. “that’s my mother! that’s her! my beautiful, sweet, warm mother who kisses my cheeks before i fall asleep. my wonderful sweet mother who brushes my hair and laughs when she pulls out little orange pieces from the brush.” in a sweeter world, a better world, a kinder world— they would have been there with their mother from birth to death. caring for her as she aged, washing her back at night, brushing her grey hair before she slept. in a good world, hibiki would have been a momma’s child.

hibiki tends towards a facilitator teaching style, which pushes for self-learning and a bit of hands-off to help promote student growth. in some way, it’s almost a form of remedy for their own past. by giving their student’s room to choose, hibiki’s always felt less like they have the possibility of confining their students as they had as a child. of course, if need be, hibiki’s always been swift to step in. they aren’t very good at chastising— but no student tends to want to incur the wrath of the teacher who, gossip has it, killed almost the entirety of this own clan. there’s a lot of room for hibiki’s teaching style to be more professional; but at the end of the day, the numbers that come out from hibiki’s previous students show reason. as much as a great majority of them are no longer sorcerers, that great majority are also still alive to this day.

hibiki truly does fault themselves for the things that occurred in shibuya, even those beyond their control. for their students being there, for the lives that were lost— for the moment they were unable to stand before the false getou and trap him and the prison realm within the abyssal origin. in some ways, it’s a cruel form of guilt that drives them to stand by kenjaku’s and sukuna’s sides. to supplant that “lack of creativity” that failed them during the shibuya incident. to learn by surrounding themselves by entities so horrible and so filled with wretched imagination that they can make something so horrible it’ll eat them whole.

the first time hibiki ever ate a watermelon was when they were sixteen, a month before the summer, and they remember it being the sweetest thing they'd ever eaten. their mouth being filled with seeds and pinkish-red liquid spilling out from between their lips. by the time someone had noticed them, cheeks full with watermelon, they were much too late to clean them up. watermelon over their hands and clothes, staining small pink marks over their uniform undershirt. it isn't their favorite fruit, but to this day, they still fondly enjoy it-- a part of them always still there in the spring of 2006.

trust isn't something hibiki has given freely for a very, very long time. respect and professionalism they give, yes, very often at that. they've come to understand that the best way to smooth through their life is to cruise on ambivalence, but trust isn't they can give that easily. trust is bone deep for hibiki, down to their marrow they have to believe in you before they can trust you-- and it's difficult for them, as you can imagine. if you were to ask them who they trusted in this world, they would probably say... "Shoko. I trust Shoko."
