Underrated perk of having a little: you have a precious human who’s absolutely obsessed with you. They dish out kiss attacks, snuggle like their life depends on it, and follow you around like sweet imprinted ducklings.
You really never have to wonder where you stand when your little is making puppy eyes at you for another cookie
A Dramatic Day 🤭
🎀 The morning started slow and warm.
Babygirl was still tangled in blankets when Mama leaned over her, brushing soft fingers through her messy hair.
“Good morning, sleepy baby.” A grumble came from beneath the comforter.
“No.”
Mama smiled. “No?”
“No awake.”
“That’s unfortunate, because we have plans today.”
Babygirl slowly peeked out. “What plans?”
Mama kissed her forehead. “Coffee shop.”
Babygirl blinked.
“And maybe the toy shop after.”
Now she sat up immediately.
“The one with all the stuffies and books?”
“The very one.”
“You should’ve started with that.”
Mama laughed. “I know, but i like seeing you being dramatic”
After getting dressed, babygirl padded around the room while Mama got dressed and checked her bag.
Snacks.
Water bottle.
Wipes.
And...
“Mama!”
Mama looked up to see babygirl standing in the doorway, cheeks pink.
“What is it, baby?”
Babygirl shifted from foot to foot.
“Mama…”
“Yes, bubba?”
“I think… I need changies.”
Mama’s expression softened immediately.
“Come here, sweetheart”
Babygirl slowly walked over, still looking shy.
Mama gently rubbed her side. “have you got messy bum?”
A tiny nod.
“And you didn't want to tell mama?”
Another tiny nod.
Mama smiled warmly. “Silly bum.”
Little one hid her face against Mama’s shoulder. “Didn’t wanna stop getting ready.”
“Well now we definitely need to stop.”
A soft whine.
“It’ll only take a minute, sweetheart”
Mama patted the bed.
“lay down for me please, bubba.”
Babygirl pouted dramatically while Mama worked gently and efficiently.
“Cold” babygirl complained quietly as Mama used wipes.
“I know, baby, Almost done.”
“Mamaaaa.”
“You’re being very brave, sweetheart” mama gently applies some nappy cream on babygirl
“That’s not helping, mama”
Mama laughed softly.
Once she was clean, Mama slid a fresh nappy into place and helped her sit up.
“All better, bubba”
Babygirl immediately melted into her arms.
“Thank you, mama”
“You never have to be embarrassed to tell me when you need help, okay?”
Babygirl nodded against her chest.
“Okay.”
Mama kissed the top of her head. “That’s my baby.”
At the coffee shop, babygirl immediately spotted the most ridiculous drink on the menu.
“Mama.”
“No.”
“But I didn’t even ask yet.”
“You were looking at it too hard.”
“It has cookie pieces.”
“No.”
“It has whipped cream.”
“No.”
“It has COOKIE PIECES!!.”
“No.”
Babygirl crossed her arms dramatically. “You’re ruining my life.”
Mama ordered anyway.
One latte for herself.
One hot chocolate for her grumpy baby, with extra whipped cream and marshmallows.
When the drink was handed over, bubba stared at it.
“…I forgive you.”
“I thought you would.” mama chuckles as she takes a sip of her drink
The toy shop was full of chaos. Bubba wanted everything.
A purple bunny stuffie.
Sparkly stickers.
A stuffie frog.
A book.
A new blankie.
“Mama, please.”
“One toy.”
“That feels unfair, mama”
“One.”
Babygirl dramatically flopped against Mama’s arm.
“You’re so strict.”
“And yet you still adore me.”
Little one grumbled. Eventually she chose a floppy bunny stuffie and carried it around like precious treasure.
By the time they got home, little one was exhausted and in need of a change. She kicked off her shoes at the door and immediately climbed into Mama’s arms.
“Tired, bubba?”
“No.”
Mama adjusted her arm around little so she could check her nappy. “Oh? Then why are you falling asleep on me?”
“No proof.”
Mama laughed and guided little one up the stairs and into her bedroom. But before laying her down, Mama paused.
“Baby?”
“Mhm?”
“I think we need one more nappy change before nap time.”
Babygirl groaned dramatically.
“Noooo.”
“Yes.”
“I’m too sleepy.”
“I know, sweetheart”
Mama laid her down gently and handed bubba her paci. Babygirl clutched her new bunny dramatically while Mama changed her.
“This is the worst day ever.” Mama smiled. “You got hot chocolate, a new bunny, and a nap.”
“…second worst.”
“That sounds more accurate.”
Once she was clean and comfy again, Mama helped her into soft pajamas and tucked her into bed. Babygirl immediately reached for her.
“Cuddle.” Mama climbed in beside her. Bubba curled into her chest, bunny tucked between them. Mama rubbed slow circles against her back.
“Did you have a good day, sweetheart?” A sleepy nod.
“Even with mama being so strict?” A tiny smile. “You’re still a little mean, mama” Mama kissed her forehead. “And you’re very spoiled.”
“…only a little.”
“Very.” mama kissed her nose playfully Babygirl yawned.
“Love you, Mama.”
“Love you more, bubba.”
Within minutes, she was fast asleep, warm, clean, cuddly and holding both Mama and her new bunny. 🎀
Kiddo who’s so used to taking care of themself. Making their own pasta, cutting off their own crusts, filling their own cup, putting bandaids on their own owies. Kiddo who spent so long taking care of themselves and self soothing they don’t know how to act with a carer now looking out for them. Instinct tells them self soothe, to be quiet and take care of it themselves.
Their carer finds them all the time, standing on a stool to stir pasta they’re making, muffling their cries with a teddy bear or cleaning up their own scraped knees. And carer is trying to be patient, rushes in and tries to take over so kiddo knows they’re not alone and they’re being taken care of now.
“I tan do it…”
“I know you can, button. But I wanna do it for you, okay? I like taking care of you.”

Putting a baby regressor down for a nap. Turning on their music box. Playing them a soothing lullaby. Drawing the blinds and closing their blackout curtains. Turning on their star projector. Holding them closely while sitting in my rocking chair. Gently lulling them to sleep.

Babysitting a toddler regressor. Watching calming cartoons. coloring and playing simple games. Getting to baby them and listen to them babble. Making them little treats and putting them down for a nap.
Baking brownies with my little. Getting them a step stool so they can reach the counter. Setting up all the bowls, spatulas, measuring cups, and whisks. Helping them scoop the ingredients into the bowls. Proudly watching them mix all the ingredients together. Letting them lick the spoons. Helping them pour the batter into the pan. Making sure they get a corner piece.

🐢 go slow you don’t have to do everything at once. tiny little paddles are still moving forward. resting is part of the journey, don't push your fins!
🦀 keep comfort near you a treasure chest near your bed or couch can help! think stuffies, fidget toys, wipes, meds (with caregiver rules), snacks, or cozy socks
🐠 choose gentle activities color ocean pictures, watch calm cartoons, listen to wave sounds, or play simple games. you’re allowed to pick things that don’t hurt your body or brain
🐬 use your helper tools mobility aids, alarms, or reminder apps are like friendly sea creatures. they’re there to help you !
🫧 hydrate like a mermaid sippy cups, silly straws, or cups with stickers can make drinking water feel more fun and less like a chore (staying hydrated is how ocean creatures get around!)
🐚 stay home if needed even fishies hide when sharks come. listening to your body is brave and smart, it's okay to not go out or cancel plans
🌊 most importantly: you are still a good, lovable fishie, even on sick days, flare days, and days where you just can’t do much. you don’t have to earn rest or comfort.💙

🌄) Maybe you 'ugly' cry, throw tantrums, get irritated easily, cant pinpoint your emotions but its okay. You're not a bad kid, you do deserve love, you deserve to be understood.
🎉) Although having nice emotions is awesome, having big 'ugly' ones doesn't make you any less of a good kid

being a carer is so healing for me, it shows my inner child that it's okay to care and love others. being a carer is a learning experience for me, it teaches me how to be vulnerable as a mama and how to take care and support my kids. i love caring for others because it reminds me i am also worthy of that precious love >< being a carer warms and heals a part of my heart and i'm forever grateful to be able to spend such lovely time with the sweetest of souls !
