A chance meeting between Klaus and Milagros turns violent and sets the workings of a dark romance and a dark and twisted love of sex and violence into motion. Supernatural forces will come into play, draw them closer together, disrupt their lives, and a savage act brings even more mystery to town.

The past, residents of Mystic Falls, family, and magic threaten to thwart their relationship. Their own instincts to self-sabotage anything good drive them to destroy almost anything in their path, including their own two damaged souls.

Will Klaus and Milagros be able to overcome everything working against them including themselves? Will they find happiness and be able to make the deepest of connections work - the one connection that can only exist between two broken people with damaged souls?
