hey meg! with overhaul down for good, and with their blessing to rehost it, have you considered maybe becoming a webmaster? with your passion through the ages and your ability to network, i think it would help bring new people in with easier access through a dedicated website. i really want overhaul to live on

Hi! First, I would need to speak to the Overhaul team to better understand how they want their legacy to continue and respect their work. I would also need to learn more about web hosting. While I have over a decade of professional experience with my employer as an archivist and technical writer, I have only been an end user to such products/platforms. I have also been in enough stakeholder meetings to understand that such platforms can be pricey.

All of that aside, my biggest concern would be the legal risk as fan translations are in a semi grey/strict surveillance depending on the publisher and license holder. I would need to investigate the full copyright risk as well. side note: the copyright risk is why I have not been sharing lore scans anymore. Most publishing houses are still active and not defunct, and there has been an increase in DMCA takedowns and lawsuits. As much as I love Vash, I can't risk my home and financial assets that support my family for my anime boyfriend. lol I appreciate being thought of for such a core part of our Trigun fandom. I have so much respect and appreciation for the entire Overhaul team. I am also a fan that has enjoyed their work.

tl;dr - I need more information before taking on such a guardianship of another team's fan work. While it is work, fan work is something we do not technically own and should be treated as a passion project with respect to the original creator(s).

I think we're very fortunate to have a story like Trigun behave as modern mythology; evolving through generations. We live in an era of safe nostalgia with our storytelling. Trigun has never been that. It's deeply human & transformative. Art like that makes me feel like our humanity is very rich.
