So, I came back to Tokyo late Friday night and somehow managed to get through the airport in less than half an hour to catch the last train out of Haneda. Somehow we, that is me and my best friend slash roomie slash travelmate and partner in crime, also managed to make it all the way back home with some impressive train hopping on four different last trains, and we did not have to spend that night in Shibuya as we had half expected. Flopping back into my own bed after a month in a hostel was all I needed that night! Saturday was spent washing sheets and arranging a few things before migrating to a friend’s place for homemade curry and catching up with the full crew of v-kei misfits.

Sunday was Gremlins day, as Hits’ birthday has been for the past many years. We made it to ReNy about half an hour after doors, and went straight up, surprised by happy to see they had already gotten most people settled in. It was filled to the brim though, and for once I was happy to be upstairs and out of the crowd. I usually prefer hiding inconspicuously in the back but there literally wasn’t any more room there. Either way, the show was great, and the new single was quite something live! I really enjoyed it and as always the boys entertained us all with their antics on stage. I am of course a bit more focused on Kenzo than the others, but since he doesn’t talk much - despite Mizuki’s best efforts to make him - the others got their fair share of attention.

I think my favorite part of Gremlins’ shows is always the encore. First of all, the girls don’t call for an encore like they do for other bands. They call for alcohol. Because we all know they will be playing D.O.D (Drink or Die) and that a conspicuous amount of what will most likely be Jägermeister shots will be consumed at the same time. My partner in crime counted the shots the birthday boy managed this time and we agreed that after thirteen Jäger shots he would be sleeping very well that night.It was all good fun and we were happy to hear they are going on tour again in July and August. So more Gremlins coming up, although not for me, since I am heading to Europe for a while and I don’t expect to be back before Kenzo’s birthday in December. I’m happy though, so long as they stay active.

For now, I have another month to enjoy with music, friends and my family visiting me in Japan for the first time ever. Only took them like five years!
