Welcome Home (02)

Amber could hear Matt getting upset in the background so as soon as he was one the phone again she looked for the quickest way out "We'll talk when you get home, my hair needs to finish curling.. Gotta go! Love you! Bye!" hanging up before he could say anything else Amber sighed pulling her hair out of the other half of curlers. He wasn't going to take any of this well. On the bright side she was getting dinner and a date out with her husband, so that was a huge plus. Fixing her hair and starting to apply her makeup she couldn't feel happier to be able to get out of the house, even if Matt was going to be in a pissy mood. She was sure he would turn his attitude around once he got home.

Pulling on an aqua blue dress over her bump, it smoothed effortlessly over her curvy frame to the floor making her comfortable but still showing off her frame as well as some cleavage. She wanted to wear heels but Amber knew that Matt would freak out at the thought of her teetering around while so pregnant. Moments later she could hear the front door swing open, he was home. Though she seemed clingy, and kind of over bearing Amber really did love when Matt was home. She loved him being around, she loved how she felt when he was near. He made her feel like the smartest, most beautiful woman he knew and that meant a lot to Amber. To him she was a somebody and not just a thing.

"Matt?" Amber called out standing up as she walked her way to the doorway of their bedroom. Standing at the top of the stairs a big smile appeared on her face at the sight of her husband heading upstairs to her. "Well aren't you tan and handsome" as he finally made it up the stairs Amber reached out a hand to take his "I never thought I'd be so happy to see you walking up those stairs, I missed you a lot". She was practically glowing thinking that he was home now, back with her, and she wouldn't have to share him for at least tonight. Amber was a lucky girl to be married to a man like Matt, and though she complained, Amber never would forget just how blessed she was.

Welcome Home (01)

To say Amber was frustrated was an understatement. Matthew had landed over forty minutes ago and he had yet to answer her phone calls. It wasn't the fact he wasn't answering, but the fact he didn't take it seriously. Yeah sometimes she called for stupid things, but with the due date nearing it was important he learned to answer his phone. This time it was one of those rare instances that it was important for him to answer, she needed to get to him before the press did. It all started the day after Matthew had left, in Mexico she couldn't contact him, when her cramps got so bad that Amber was certain the baby was coming. She had gone to the hospital and everything just to be told that it was a false alarm, however Amber was certain someone had a photograph of her at the hospital. E! had been speculating on whether or not the baby was born and the last thing Amber needed was for some nosey, and ill informed, photographer to go and ask Matthew why he missed the baby's birth.

She had been sick for days and today was the first time that she hadn't felt sick. Amber actually had felt well enough to get up and go to a yoga class, which she hadn't done in weeks, but Matthew didn't know that. She knew he would have a cow if he thought he had missed the baby's birth. On top of that he would have a cow thinking she was alone during this all, which she hadn't. The perk of marrying Matthew, besides the obvious, was the copious amounts of LA based friends they had. Paget, Matthew's co-star, had been kind enough to spend the last few days with her. Her fiance, and one of Matt's close friends, Steve Damastra had even stopped by a few times to make sure they were okay and everything. Yet Matt didn't know that and Amber knew she was in for a lecture of a lifetime if he got word before she explained everything.

Paget had left about an hour ago, Amber was fine on her own now and if anything was going to happen Paget was literally fifteen minutes away, it wasn't a big deal. Finally as she was pulling the curlers out of her hair (he always called at the most inconveniant times) her phone began to vibrate against her vanity. Part of her felt like ignoring it in favor of fixing her hair, however she knew that would probably end badly so instead she picked up the phone and accepted his call. "Is this my husband or the gang that kidnapped him in Mexico? because that's about the only reasonable explanation for why he wasn't answering my calls" Amber teased before he could get a word in edgewise. "I mean it's bad enough he ditched me for a week, three weeks out from our daughter's birth, to go hang out on some beach with his sister but not answering my phone calls as well. I think that means he owes me, don't you agree Maybe by taking me out to dinner and not counseling me on what has the best vitamins for an hour before I'm allowed to order? The other option is he can sleep on the couch for the next five years and kiss every blow job, hand job, sex, or even being allowed within a two foot perimeter or me goodbye for at least a year, I heard having a baby really kills your sex drive and it'd suck for him if that was to happen".

She was being bitchy but Amber honestly didn't care, he needed to learn to stop ignoring her phonecalls this close to the baby's birth. "Okay being serious now, I'm glad you finally decided to return my call. We are going to dinner because I'm actually wearing clothes besides sweatpants and I did my hair. You didn't miss your daughter's birth, no matter what E! says, and Paget's been over for the last six days so I'm perfectly fine, probably even better than usual, and that's all I have to say so now it's your turn. Oh, sorry one last thing, I love you and I missed you while you were gone." Amber was really bad at having a conversation sometimes, she was good at being one sided and lecturing him for hours on end but really bad at letting him get a word in to defend himself.

Evening In (03)

Amber smiled when Matthew began to talk about Aubrey and how excited she was for the baby. Aubrey was one of the only females that Amber didn't mind Matthew hanging out with, she was one of the nicest girls Amber knew in Hollywood and she knew that they were just good friends. Besides that, Aubrey knew Amber relatively well and Amber knew that was enough to deter her from trying anything. People who knew her knew wasn't someone to mess with, it wasn't that Amber would ever cause someone harm at the hands of revenge but more of the fact that she could. It was known that Amber had plenty of directors and movie execs in her friend circle and all it would take was a teary eyed lunch date and she could probably ruin someone's career in film. It was a big risk but Amber enjoyed the power, she liked the endless spoiling and knowing that she was practically untouchable at times. Amber was nice though, she would never actually ruin someone's career because unlike a lot of actresses in her circle, Amber had been at the bottom not too long ago. Very few people remembered how Amber came to fame but it wasn't an easy road. It was a lot of nights crying on her friends' floors, and lots of work to please the people around her and hone her craft. Her first few roles were pathetic, she wasn't anything exciting, and as terrible as it sounded but the moment she took the time to better herself physically everything fell into place. She was proof that all Hollywood really cared about was a pretty face and toned body, as sad as it was, it was the truth no one took her seriously until she lost thirty pounds and built up a killer pair of legs. That was part of the reason Amber loved Matthew so much, he knew her and still remembered her as the wide eyed seventeen year old without a worry in the world. He knew what she was like and had appreciated her even when no one else had. Not that they were ever best friends but many of the hardest parts in Amber's rise to fame Matthew had been there for. He was there many the nights she would cry over a lost role, or when an exec said she really should work on her pretty face rather than her acting skills, or those days when she felt like leaving and going straight back to Texas. Matthew remembered those days and didn't let her forget that at one point she was at the very bottom. He kept her humble. "Of course everyone wants to know what we're naming the princess" Amber smiled rubbing her tummy a little more generously now. "They know it's going to be a great name, between our minds it has to be wonderful" Amber told him, with a nod. "Beautiful but unique. Odd but quaint. It's going to be the kind of name you would think belongs to one of those glamour, beautiful old Hollywood actresses. Someone far beyond their years in grace." Amber knew the fight to find the perfect name was going to be hard, they had yet to agree on a name but she knew once they did it was going to be the perfect name. "I still like names like Audrey and Ava, Rita, Grace, Simone, Ingrid, Brigitte, Vivian, Greta, Jayne." Amber liked classic names and she knew names like that made Matthew's skin crawl. There were millions of girls with those names and he wanted something unique, meanwhile Amber was focused on the simple yet stunning.

Midrub Amber stopped her eyes flashing up to look at Matthew "Come here" she demanded reaching out impatiently as he made his was around the counter. Taking his hand she set it near the top of her bump "Do you feel it?" she asked grinning as the kicking continued against her tummy. "She's kicking, and kicking hard, she's really in there" Amber whispered. It was so weird to think there was an actual tiny human in her stomach. She felt like at times this wasn't really and after the nine months she would just go back to being thin, but right now was the type of moment that made it feel real. She could feel the baby and feel that it was alive within her. It wasn't so surreal.

Evening In (02)

Taking the flowers and giving his cheek a soft kiss Amber set to work putting them in a vase before perching herself on the opposite marble countertop to listen to how his day had gone. It was a ritual between the two, he would come home and before anything else they'd talk about their days apart. Absentmindedly rubbing her stomach Amber smiled when he spoke about his movies. He was so hard working, it was crazy. Amber had never known anyone who worked half as hard, herself included, he was always doing something new. Most actors did a big project and took time off, yet he never seemed to have more than a day or two away from a studio. Not that Amber minded. Yes she missed him when he wasn't home but she knew this made him happiest so Amber was more than willing to watch him be happy and just miss him a few hours a day.

"But babe, when I filmed I would do full length films. It'd be three months of one character, on one set, with one set of people. It's a lot easier than you who has now dealt with three characters" he always thought she was superwoman of some sort because of her filming schedule but Amber was quick to assure him that she indeed was not. It was easy acting on a full length film. She was the same character and could focus solely on one script meanwhile he was juggling scripts and characters. Besides, in all honesty, most of her characters didn't have that many difficult lines. They were normally more for show than they were for plot purposes. Not that Amber disregarded her work, she was perfectly aware she was a good actress however in the same breath she definitely was not superwoman.

"I can't wait to see them all" Amber told him honestly, giving him a big smile. She was proud more than anything, she was so proud of everything he had ever done. Sure it stunk seeing him kiss pretty girls on screen but Amber knew it was just part of the acting process. She was the type of person who got easily jealous but whenever she saw him with another actress all Amber had to remind herself was that at the end of the day he was bringing her flowers and she was pregnant with his child. His last name and heart were hers and there was no denying it. "Maybe they'll give you a rough copy of the first one before the baby's born, the doctor seems to think I'll be bedridden for the last week or two so it'd be nice to have something to watch" Amber was excited for the baby to be there. Their little girl, news that was both thrilling and scary, and Amber could not wait to hold her and treasure her. Matt was going to be the best father and Amber knew that being a mother would be an enjoyable task with him by her side.

Evening In (01)

He never answered his phone calls. Matt never answered and it was something Amber could not wrap her head around. Was it that difficult? Picking up when she called. What if something had happened? He was never home and he could never answer the phone. She’d have to ask his mother for advice on this one. Just as she was reaching for the phone the door opened though causing her to stop mid-thought. Footstep, footstep, footstep; she knew the clicking of his favorite shoes and it caused relief to wash over her tense frame. He was home. Barely waiting a moment she quickly made her way to the kitchen, skidding across the tile floor in her socks as she wrapped her arms around him from behind. It used to be easier to do but now the task was almost impossible thanks to her growing baby bump. This would have to end soon because her arms were barely reaching around him these days.

“We missed you!” she exclaimed, happily, letting go to stand next to him. “Even if you’re still not answering my phone calls, I mean really, what if I had gone into labor?” she asked picking things out of the grocery bags to snack on. “You know we’re getting near the point where the baby could be due prematurely, and do you want to miss the birth of your child?” she asked popping a red grape into her mouth. “I’ll forgive you though” she told him, sweetly, “If you promise to answer next time. I just really need to know where you are, it’s important to me” Amber was stir crazy, that was the problem. The doctor had practically put her on bed rest these days due to her increased stress levels and Amber wanted none of that. How could she ever lay in bed all day? It just didn’t seem very possible for her lifestyle.

Amber was a go-getter. Someone who needed to be up and around at all times. IT was killing her to have to sit at home and watch tv all day. It gave her more day to creep on Matt, but less time to actually be productive. She left for doctor’s appointments and really that was about it. The groceries were either Matt’s thing or the service that would bring them to her house, her trainer came to the house, and her family and friends. All she did all day was sleep, eat, and sunbathe. “Can I help you cook tonight, please? I’m so bored” she whined watching as he unpacked stuff, “And we should go in the hot tub before bath time I finally got the guy to stop by and put gas in the tank so it’ll work now” she informed him, thinking of anything else exciting she had, “Oh and I love you and you smell good today”.

Home (02)

As usual Amber was barely awake before Matt started firing questions in her direction. "Hmm?" she asked, sleepily sitting up and stretching her long legs out in front of her. She knew Matt was just worrying about forgetting things but honestly to Amber it mattered none. Pulling at the thick black oversized sweater around her shoulders Amber reminded Matt that he had made her wear a sweater for the very purpose of her not forgetting anything. Plus to keep warm, he had read somewhere that she needed to stay warm at all times and had taken that as his thing to worry about today. Pulling her blanket off and neatly folding it she sat it in her lap as she pulled her bag out from under her seat, placing the blanket inside along with the contents of her wallet and other valuables she couldn't be without. Slipping on her sandals and pulling her hair from the knot she had fashioned it from Amber was ready to exit the plane, feeling it descend as she gathered her stuff. Now if only she could squeeze in another twenty minutes of sleep she'd feel good.

Once the plane was landed Amber rose, settling her bag in the crook of her arm as she slipped her sunglasses on her face, taking hold of Matt's hand as they exited their row. She often felt like a child in these situations, clinging to a father to make sure she didn't get lost, but she knew it was all in good taste. Matt just wanted to make sure he was there to take care of her and keep her safe. Finally getting off the plane Amber was able to catch up to Matt's side, releasing his hand to cover her yawn as they made their way to baggage claim. Per usual she was quiet and held back allowing Matt to grab their bags and taking hers once he had set it on the ground. They were out the door within minutes hailing a taxi and climbing in the backseat as Amber read off her address, keeping her head low from the looming photographers.

Once nestled in the back, in the crook of Matt's arm Amber could feel herself begin to fall asleep once more, the comforting buzz of the car engine and the familiar drive lulling her back into her sleepy state. Jet lag was unapparent before but now that she was pregnant she felt like she could sleep for days. That was the plan for the rest of the afternoon, aquainting Matt to her house and resting. She even had a new sonogram to show him over dinner when she felt awake enough to cook. Sitting up with a sudden jolt of brakes Amber realized they were already at her residence, outside the gate. Getting out once more she reveled in the feeling of the sunlight on her shoulders, typing in her gate code and allowing the car to drive through before following behind it, making sure the gate shut soundly behind them before climbing back into the car to make it up the final trek of the hill to her house.

Home (01)

Home. That was the first thought that came to mind these days when she woke up next to Matthew. It never ceased to amaze Amber how no matter where they were as long as he was by her side she felt at home. On this particular day, and this particular nap, she woke up nestled between Matt and the window of the airplane from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. She was always tired these days and luckily her fiance was more than happy to offer a shoulder for her to nap on. The baby made her tired. It was a first/second trimester thing, supposedly in her third trimester she was to feel a million times better and not so exhausted at all hours of the day.

On this day they were finally heading to Amber's house. Not her parent's house but the house she had bought with her own money and would hopefully raise her babies in, for now. She was excited to show Matt the side of LA that she loved so much. From her beautiful house on the hill to all the crappy food vendors she loved to visit at the local park. She wanted Matt to see LA differently than most people viewed it. In her world there wasn't just glitz and glam but a life that was worth living, one she was happy to be in. It was the kind of lifestyle she wanted to give to her children. One where yes they had privledge but in the same breath could live a normal life without the shine of photographers at all hours. It was a life she wante to share with Matt.

As she woke up Amber tugged the blanket back up around her shoulders, pulling her knees tighter to her chest as she leaned up and over to press a soft kiss to the side of his throat "Who needs a pillow when I have you around?" she whispered quietly against his skin, still in her sleepy haze. Bringing one arm from underneath her throw she linked it around his neck, bringing herself closer to nuzzle affectionately into his shoulder "I love you" she murmured placing one last gentle kiss against the crook of his neck as she willed herself to wake up. They would be landing soon and the last thing she needed was fuzzy vision and sleepy stumbling through the airport.

Meeting the Parents (11)

Matthew didn't think Amber saw some of her cousins flirting with him but Amber saw an made a mental note to later destroy them aka not invite them to the wedding or anything where he would be involved. This wasn't the animal kingdom so ripping out their throats was not acceptable. When her family began filing inside Amber dutifully cleaned dishes and everything like she was used to at home before excusing herself to her parents. "I'm beat, you know how that is" she told her mom, patting her stomach. "I just get so tired because of the baby so I think Matt and I are going to go back to the hotel and crash" she explained before hugging her mom, saying her goodbyes to the rest of her family, hugging her father and finally taking Matt by the hand. "See you all soon!" she waved as she pulled him from the kitchen and out the front door.

Once the door was safely shut she let out a big sigh "I never thought that was going to end" she told him shaking her head. Getting into the car she secured her seatbelt and made sure Matt was cool before pulling out of the circular driveway and back down the road until they reached the main road once more. "Do you see why I hate coming home?" If it was just her parents and her brother, and Whitney sometimes, she would be fine. It was extended family that she disliked greatly. "They're just so judgmental, you know? Like Janet got pregnant at sixteen by a man twice her age got married to him and now he's off dating some brunette like a third of his age. She had no right to sit there and make it seem like you're some old dirtbag because you're six years older than me. That was completely unacceptable on her part because honestly she is the last one who deserves an opinion on the topic".

Her family made her blood boil because it was rampade with dysfunction. Not just normal dysfunction like Aunt Norma lying about something stupid but dysfunction like her aunt sleeping with her sister-in-laws husband, or Whitney blowing their second cousins boyfriend at the last family wedding. Stuff that honestly shouldn't happen nor was something Amber wanted her family to be mixed in. Reaching across the center console she took Matt's hand "Good thing is that really we'll just be seeing my parents. The rest wouldn't come out to LA or Las Vegas to visit. And my parents are at least civil and not completely mortifying".

Amber was on the verge of killing her cousin and she was certain everyone at the table knew the inevitable. As Matthew fielded her questions politely Amber grew more and more furious, the smug look on her cousin's face needed to be wiped off. "Jan, where's Rick?" she asked seemingly innocently, until her cousin's face dropped, "Oh wait I'm so sorry I forgot he left you. What was she 22? You poor thing" she sighed, shaking her head, hiding her victorious smile. "I mean, let's be honest, we should have seen it coming. You were what when you got pregnant? Sixteen? And he was like 32, right? Should have known he couldn't keep it in his pants". Amber was willing to fight dirty when it came to Matt, especially over someone who had no right to speak like that.

Taking a sip of her water Amber looked at Matt "Oh you want some more, sweetie?" she asked pretending as if nothing had happened. "Sure let me pour you another glass" standing up she grabbed the bottle of wine pouring some more into his glass before retaking her seat. This time no one dared to say a single word against Matthew, they were starting to learn this wasn't a joke and she wasn't taking mercy. Putting a hand on her stomach Amber thought about how she never wanted to expose her baby to this. It wasn't fair that her family could be so judgmental and prejudice. This was just the start, no longer would she just sit there and take it. She had a family now take care of and anyone who assumed she would allow ridicule to come to Matt or their baby was sadly mistaken.

The conversation started up once again this time about the family rather than her family. How her brother's job was coming, how her sister's photography was going, the trip to Honolulu that her parents had just taken. Safe topics, ones that weren't going to anger her nor bring the wrath of pregnancy hormones. Looking up at Matt she caught his eye "Wanna go soon?" she asked noticing the sun setting, she didn't want to be here all night. "Fried rice and the room service creme brulee are calling my name" she whispered with a smirk, she just wanted to get this over with already.

Meeting the Parents (09)

Sitting down next to Matthew, Amber continued to zone in and out of the conversation. Normally she wasn't such a sex crazed individual. Obviously she liked it as much as the next person but ever since she became pregnant it was as if she needed it and it made her feel weird and slightly embarrassed. All she wanted right now was to go back to their hotel and have her way with him but she knew that wasn't appropriate. He wasn't making her life any easier though with his hand on her thigh, pushing her dress up as his thumb circled her skin. Taking his hand she moved it forcefully farther down her leg giving him a stern glare before attempting to pay more attention to the conversation.

She stumbled in just as he finished talking about his life as in work and school. Amber had known Matt for a good portion of that. Well the acting portion. They had met just as he started to work with Wes Anderson, before Criminal Minds, and the acting thing she always had thought was funny. Matt didn't see it but she could. He was tall, lanky, and had a very defined and masculine face. He looked like a typical male model and she knew many very well. Of course at some points in the time she knew him he looked more like it, when he was on that bulking up phase and his lankiness turned into lean muscle, and other times he looked less like a model, with his big dark circles prominent as ever, but you definitely could see in him how at one point he was a model.

"Much much younger? How old are you exactly?" A cousin asked, sipping on her alcoholic beverage, Amber shot a glare down her way. Was it truly any of her business? She could see Matt hesitate, unsure if the age difference would be appreciated. Amber honestly didn't care. They'd probably be a little surprised but to Amber it was nothing. She had dated men twice her age and Matt was barely older "He's 34" Amber told them with a shrug, she could see all the wheels turning as they figured out the six year age difference between the two. "I've known him since I was seventeen and he was twenty three. But don't worry unlike some people around here he never tried anything, he doesn't have an affinity for underaged girls" it was a jab at the cousin who asked the question and her husband, but Amber didn't frankly care. She wasn't going to put up with the judgement on Matt. "Well that's very nice, it's so wonderful that you have such a successful television show!" her mother exclaimed, breaking the awkward silence. Her mother always knew just what to do.

Amber couldn't help but giggle as she watched Matt stare at the liquid. It was as if he thought if he stared long enough that the liquid would eventually just tell him what it was. "I promise I wouldn't give you anything that would embarrass you. It's just going to take the edge off, promise" Amber smiled watching as he drank it down. "I might kill you but you're marrying me anyway" Amber told him with a wink just before he leaned in to kiss her. Returning the kiss Amber didn't want him to stop, it was the crazy hormones that never wanted him to stop.

Just as she was thinking she got her way the kiss stopped and Matt pulled away telling her that they should go back out to her parents. "But Matt" she pouted crossing her arms over her chest, "We were just getting to the good part where the kisses get heated and we end up naked in my childhood bedroom while my parents are oblivious to the whole thing" Amber whined, "They wouldn't have even known we were gone for that long" she knew there was no way she was going to win this argument. Matt didn't like to have sex if he thought their neighbors could hear them, there was no way she was getting laid with her parents outside.

"You owe me later" Amber finally consented hopping off the countertop. She'd get her just desserts later when Matt was more comfortable and not so afraid of her parents. Taking his hand she led him back out to the garden to accompany her family members. They just needed to play nice for a little while longer and then Matt and Amber would leave. She'd make some excuse that her head hurt or she needed to lie down so that they wouldn't be wrapped into staying all evening or maybe even the night.

"I think they love you, as I expected" Amber told him, shaking her head at his nervousness. "They love you because you love me. It's important to them that I find someone that I love and that will love me no matter what happens in life and they know that you're the one for me" she explained watching as his thumb played with her engagement ring. Hearing what her father said Amber nodded, silently thankful her father hadn't threatened him or gone into detail about what he'd do to Matt if she got hurt, that'd be an awkward conversation seeing her father was quite the gun enthusiast like herself.

"My Mom thought you were lovely. She's not used to me bringing men home, honestly" Amber shrugged, "Especially respectable, smart, and well rounded men. I mean...you know my type and they're definitely not you. You have a steady job and a bank account that you actually put money into and you wear dress shirts that fit and don't spike your hair obnoxiously. She loves you" It was true Amber knew her parents wouldn't have one bad word to say about Matt later. He was the kind of man that they had told Amber to marry from a young age. He hit every box and wish they could think of for their daughter and so they automatically thought he was the best thing ever.

When Matt mentioned wanting more wine Amber shook her head, she knew it was the nerves. The alcohol made him feel calm, he needed a shot of liquid courage. Taking his hand Amber lead him towards the house earning an "Amber Laura Heard!" and stern look from her mother. Giving her a smile before going into the house Amber led him back into the kitchen opening the cabinets until she found the bottle she was looking for. Pouring the smooth brown liquid into a small glass Amber capped the bottle and put it back in the liquor cabinet before turning to Matt "Drink this, you won't need another glass of wine for the rest of the week" she assured him before hopping up to perch on the countertop, "It'll give you all the confidence without the drunk feeling".

Amber was relieved when Matt walked over. Whitney was her best friend and little sister but sometimes it seemed she had no filter and it bugged Amber to no end. Sometimes she wished her sister could be a little more quiet and not so intrusive when it came to things like her sex life and her relationships. There were more important things to discuss than rating Matt on a scale of how good he was in bed in comparison to people like Johnny Depp. It was different with Matt. She loved Matt and the thought of comparing him to others and demeaning his worth like that hurt. Yet Whitney didn't understand. She wanted the dirty details and not the stuff Amber was willing to discuss.

As soon as Matt was by her side she could feel her shoulders relax and her heart fluttered at his answer "See Whit, all the time in the world" she knew that Whitney wouldn't broach on the topic any further in Matt's presence, at least she could behave herself. Wrapping her arm around his waist and leaning into Matt, Amber watched as her sister excused herself to go talk to someone before leaning in to give him a kiss "I love you" she told him, snaking her other arm around his thin frame as well. "She's harmless, I promise" Amber told him, in regards to her sister, "She's just immature, that's all. She still thinks that sex equates to love and that it's an end all be all kind of thing" Amber explained, "When really it's far more important that I love you, not that I'm complaining about our sex life...because it's great, it's just that it's not the most important aspect of our relationship".

Looking up at him eagerly Amber could no longer contain her questions now that they had a minute alone "What did my dad say to you?" She asked curiously, wondering what had gone on. She knew it had gone well she could hear her dad speaking highly of the "intelligent young man that Amber is marrying". She thought she'd save it for another day that Matt wasn't quite as young as her parents probably assumed. She was happy though that they liked him, that was the important part. It seemed as if today was going relatively well besides the little bits here and there of stress and annoyance, but hey that's what happened every time her family got together. It was just expected by this point.

Amber felt kind of bad just leaving Matt out there with her father but she knew this was what he needed. If she stood there and spoke for him he wouldn't get to know her father nor would they get to have a real conversation. Amber wanted Matt to know her father, to feel comfortable with him and not so afraid. It would mean a lot to her if they could get along because both were going to be in her life for a very long time. She knew her dad wasn't going to be tough on him, her dad was very much one of those fathers who just wanted his children happy. Matt made her happy so she was certain that her father would play nice.

Leaning against the kitchen counter Amber positioned herself so she could keep a watch out the window of her fiance and her father. She wondered what they were talking about, she'd have to ask Matt later. After only a moment she was disturbed by someone jumping up on the counter next to her suddenly yanking her hand. "Jesus Whitney" she laughed allowing her sister to see the ring. "He did a good job" Whitney commented, "That's a nice ring, Amber, well played" Amber laughed shrugging "What can I say? I picked a good fiance and he picked a good ring". Her mother was soon next to them examining the diamond as well. Amber was proud to show it off.

Soon the attention turned from the ring to Matt seeing that Amber never really got to speak to her family about Matt. The questions were relatively normal, and tame, about how they met and when they started to get close. Until her sister got settled with a glass of wine and the real ones fired up "So engaged or knocked up first?" Whitney asked causing Amber to suck her teeth "Knocked up. Conceived on the night we slept together like way back in February we just got engaged like a week ago on my birthday" Amber told her sister with a shrug, she knew her sister wouldn't judge nor would her mother so she felt safe answering their questions. "Are you going to try and get married before the baby arrives?" her mom asked as she continued to do some dishes, once again Amber shrugged "We didn't really talk about it. We've been too busy being happy" she explained to her Mom. It was true they hadn't really talked wedding stuff at all, in Amber's mind there was no need to they had all the time in the world.

Meeting the Parents (04)

Amber had to hold back a smile as Matt gawked over her parents' home. It was very different than the home they shared in Nevada as well as his mother's house. When they finally got around to LA he would see it was reminiscent of her own home. Though very different, it was also similar with pictures and artwork adorning the walls. Baby pictures and images of her as a child lined the neutral colored walls litered with drawings and watercolors of flowers and various other objects in between "I made those" she told Matt pointing out the artwork on the walls, "Thought you were the only artistically talented one in the relationship, didn't you?" she asked with a smirk.

Following her mother out the backdoor and onto the patio Amber was greeted by a small flock of familiar faces. Her father, brother, sister, and a few relatives. Relieved it was smaller than what she had expected Amber put on her biggest smile as Matt and herself were absorbed by the small gathering. "This is Matt, my fiance" Amber introduced, making sure that Matt was in the center of everything. This was about meeting him, not her coming home. Though after a moment of her family looking him over, and internally (thank goodness) judging Matt it was as if nothing was different instead their attention turned to her baby bump. Multiple hands and lots of questions How far are you? Do you know the sex? When's the due date? Those were questions she was more than happy to answer however it was some of the more obnoxious ones that made her cringe: Were you pregnant before you were engaged? Are you planning on getting married before the baby? Did you know that marriage before a baby makes a relationship last longer?Are you two getting married for the sake of the baby? Stepping back Amber brushed the hands away from her stomach "Can you not" she snapped, immediately becoming protective.

It was then Amber knew she had made a mistake as ten pairs of eyes stared at her, shocked, they weren't used to her being so cold and curt however at the same time Amber didn't think this was fair. She came to introduce her fiance to her family and here they were only wanting to ask about, and give unsolicited advice, the baby and her current state of how the baby's life should be. It was her baby and she felt it was rude, especially in front of Matt, to ask such questions. The silence was broken by her sister after a moment joking about how pregnancy seemed to have revved her bitch hormones. It was then her family seemed to get the clue to back down instead referring questions to Matt such as his job and how he met Amber, all very innocent questions which made Amber much happier.

After what seemed like forever of mindless chattering Amber was distracted as her father finally approached. Her father was intimidating, she couldn't lie about that, a tall man with a big grey handlebar mustache and a cowboy hat. "Daddy!" She exclaimed, hoping to soften him a little as she gave him a big hug. Pulling Matt forward she couldn't help but smile wide "Daddy, this is Matt, Matt this is my father" she introduced. Her father was silent for a moment, she could feel his eyes combing Matthew before finally stuck out his hand for a handshake. With a smile on her father's face she figured this was her moment maybe to allow Matt a second along with her dad "I'll be right back, I didn't get to show Mom my ring yet" she smiled, giving Matt a peck on the cheek before turning and sneaking out of the conversation.

Meeting the Parents (03)

It wasn't a far drive from their hotel to her parents' home. Soon they were driving down the rolling driveway, the big house from her childhood sprawled behind a gate. Her parents were wealthy, right winged, and affluential and it wasn't something Amber often spoke about. "This is it" Amber smiled as she pulled into the circular drive in front of the house. "You'll be fine" she promised once more turning to look at him, "They'll love you because I love you. I love you very much and I'm not changing my mind on that one." Nothing could ever change her mind.

Leaning in she gave Matt one last tender kiss, hoping to ease his nerves just a little, before getting out of her car. It had been months since she had last seen her parents. Christmas. It was hard living in LA with a full time career and life to get home to Texas. Overall she got along well with her parents, it was just the fact they lived so far away from home so she rarely got to see them. Ringing the bell Amber immediately her the click of high heels, signaling her mother's presence, before the door opened.

The blonde woman standing in the doorway easily could have passed for her sister. Amber was lucky for good genes as her mother was stunning. "Mom!" she exclaimed hugging the woman, as much as her bump would allow, exchanging pleasentries as they entered into the house. Stepping back she flanked Matthew "Mom, this is Matt, Matt this is my mother" giving him a smile she watched as her mother quickly embraced Matt, not missing a beat, as she asked how he was and affectionately telling Matt how happy she was to finally meet him. "We're having lunch on the patio. Your father and sister and brother are already out there waiting on us" lingering back as her mother led the way Amber took the opportunity to grab Matt's hand "See? She likes you. Relax. I love you".

Meeting the Parents (02)

Amber felt instantly relaxed the moment she felt Matthew's arms wrap around her. Snuggling closer to him she could feel her worries melt away, it was how life always seemed to go when she was with Matthew. Sometimes she got stressed, other times she felt on the verge of a meltdown but Matthew always took those fears and pain away. It was as if with him nothing could ever go wrong and in all honesty Amber believed that it couldn't.

As Matt climbed out of bed Amber carefully sat up, making sure not to mess up her hair, it was kind of cute to see him stressed out over everything. She could see the worry lines etched across his worn face. It was funny how old he looked when he was worried. Looking down at his socks she couldn't help but smile, shaking her head, "Keep them. If you wore matching socks then I'd be really upset". Matt's thing was mismatched socks and whatever made him comfortable was also what she wanted.

When Matt brought up the ring Amber crinkled her brow. She knew where Matthew was coming from. The polite thing to do was ask for her father's permission but in the same breath Amber didn't think it'd matter that much. She was going to marry Matt no matter what happened. "I am going to wear my ring" Amber finally answered nodding as she stared at the sparkingly ring on her left hand. She loved her ring. She was sure all girls said they loved their ring but Amber meant it, she could tell how much thought Matt had put into it.

Standing up she held out her hand "Come on, Handsome, we can do this. Let's go visit my parents and then we can come back and test out that nice big bathtub. Did you see that thing? It's the size of a hot tub" she giggled standing by the door when he finally joined her. Opening it she stepped out "They'll love you, I promise. Don't stress, babe, I know they'll love you."
