Kanata Clothing Co. Pledges $25,000 to Help Syrian Refugees

Canadian menswear label Kanati Clothing Company is pledging $25,000 to assist with refugees landing in the country from Syria who are fleeing civil war. 

Canada is expected to resettle 10,000 refugees by the end of December. Popular company’s such as Kanati Co. taking steps to make refugees feel welcome and supported help combat Islamaphobia. 

The first refugees to Canada were greeted by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

LoudounTimes.com 12/14/15: In response to GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s call last week to ban all Muslims entering the U.S., Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) condemned Trump in Northern Virginia Saturday, calling his language “disgraceful” and repeating calls for religious tolerance.

McAuliffe spoke at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) health clinic in Chantilly in front of an audience of nearly 80 people, including Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust (D), local state Del. Kathleen Murphy (D) and former state senate candidate Jill McCabe (D).

Islamic scholars call on faithful to help fight climate change

Declaration rooted in Islamic text urges Muslims to phase out greenhouse gas emissions and commit to renewable energy

Muslim scholars from 20 countries issued an “Islamic Declaration on Climate Change”, calling on the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims to do their part to eliminate dangerous greenhouse gas emissions and commit to renewable energy sources.The declaration, which draws on Islamic teachings, was drafted by academics and finalized at the International Islamic Climate Change Symposium held in Istanbul Aug. 17-18. The symposium’s goal was to reach “broad unity and ownership from the Islamic community around the Declaration,” according to the event’s website.

A couple in Turkey swapped out lavish nuptials with their friends and family for the bread line with thousands of Syrian refugees.

Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat doled out food to 4,000 Syrian refugees for their wedding reception on the border town of Kilis. The bride wore an elaborate white dress, with a tiara perched on her headdress, and the groom sported a white tuxedo with black trim. They stood behind large food trucks distributing meals to hungry Syrians. The couple had decided that instead of hosting their friends and family for a traditional banquet reception, they would feed the victims of a bloody civil war next door.

A small group of Christians visited a mosque in Chattanooga to pray alongside Muslim worshippers.

The guests who went to the Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga mosque for prayers on Friday were mainly Baptists, and at least one Presbyterian.

One visitor told the Chattanooga Time Free Press they went to the mosque as a show of love for the Muslim community. Some also brought their children.
