But if murdering Shireen is wrong because Stannis is the wrong guy….if it had been Jon or Dany it would have been fine???
No, because Shireen isn’t the most precious thing in the world to them.
Boy do I hate to tell you what I think is going to happen with Jon and Dany…
You're probably right, buy man, I'm going to be slightly irked if the narrative culminates in "the right move is hurling more sacrifices into R'hllors evil red maw so he'll get off his ass and deign to do something about the icepocalypse."
I don’t think it’s going to be the heroes dropping the Coin of Ultimate Sacrifice into the Gatchaman of R’hllor, no. I think the truth is more complicated, occult, and syncretic.
(Also, I don’t think R’hllor is straightforwardly evil. I don’t think that’s how GRRM vibes.)
Are you talking about the Dany = NissaNissa thing? I hate that one so much. I do not need to see her get fridged for Jon's sake.
Lord and lady stark
Old sketches, I’d like to revisit ASOIAF designs again during break
Had Renly been born a girl who would handle her marriage? Would it be Stannis, her closest male relative (physically, since I think they'd both be living at Storms End) or Robert/the small council? She's not technically a princess but her brother is the king so seems like it'd be important. Would Hoster be tempted to pair her with Edmure?
Robert. Typically marriages are arranged by the head of the household. And given that Renly post-Rebellion would he technically a royal princess, her marriage would be of Paramount political significance.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

God, can you imagine the mess? Because it's that case it probably would involve cersei to an extent, and anything involving cersei turns into a mess.
...Winter is here
do you have an ASOIAF discord server or can you recommend one?
I don't. You may want to try the History of Westeros discord. It's pretty expansive.
-SLAL
I think a lot of major YT channels have a discord. HoW, Radio Westeros, Direwolf City/Gray Area/Obsidian Knights all have one. I don't think Joe Magician has one, or if he does it's private/invite only, but I think a lot of em you have to be present for the stream to get an invite link. Except HoW, theirs is public:
Check out the History of Westeros community on Discord - hang out with 710 other members and enjoy free voice and text chat.
They're awesome, and they're lovely people, so you should just go listen to em. They stream Sunday afternoons and @nobodysuspectsthebutterfly and @goodqueenaly work with them on their content a lot. There's also a fb group.
I imagine Lucifer Means Light bringer and Tony Teflon have one but I really dislike their content so I couldn't tell you if they do or not.
In Deep Geek, Game of Owns, AltShiftX, Girls Gone Canon, and Learned Hands are all channels/podcasts that might be good places to look for associated Discords, but I'm not in any of em so I'm not sure if they exist or not. Actually, I take that back, Girls Gone Canon definitely does have a Discord but I think it's Patreon only.
I love talking about Targaryen crowns (like all the time) and maybe this is grasping but I like thinking about Daeron I's and Baelor I's choice of crowns relative to their father Aegon III's own choice of crown.
Aegon III may not have initially chosen or designed the crown he wore during his reign (given that he was crowned with either the same or an extremely similar circlet when he was initially proclaimed king, in 131 AC), and he certainly did not have access to a plethora of alternate Targaryen pieces in his day (given that Rhaenyra had sold the crown of Jaehaerys I and that the fate of Aenys I's crown following the coronation of the young Jaehaerys I remains unknown). Nevertheless, Aegon's crown became a fitting symbol for his attitude as king and his approach to his reign. Somber and simple, a man who openly stated his desire to give the smallfolk “peace and food and justice”, Aegon had no personal or political inclination to glorify himself with a grandiose crown. The plain gold band allowed Aegon III to mark himself as a king in the most unassuming way possible, while spending as little of the crown’s treasure as he could on himself personally (and, in turn, saving that (literal) gold for the people). Moreover, this was as practical a crown as a king could wear: instead of being literally weighed down by a sense of his own grandeur, Aegon III would instead demonstrate to his subjects that he was committed to the sort of hard work only a lighter crown could permit.
So in a way, Daeron’s and Baelor’s respective crown choices may have been a sort of following in the footsteps of their father. Obviously Daeron’s decision to wear the crown of Aegon I reflected Daeron’s explicit desire to be the spiritual successor of the Conqueror, to complete the former’s conquest and finally bring Dorne into the Iron Throne’s domain. Yet this crown may have also worked to echo Aegon III’s circlet, with all the latter's pragmatic connotations. While Aegon I’s crown could not equal Aegon III’s in simplicity - given the presence of rubies and the base of rare Valyrian steel - the Conqueror’s circlet nevertheless suggested a certain amount of practicality: its light construction and association with the warrior-king Aegon I argued for its ability to be worn in battle (as indeed it was, albeit unexpectedly, by Daeron I during his assassination). Just as Aegon III may have used his plain gold band to signal his readiness for the hard work he intended to do in rebuilding the realm after the Dance, so perhaps Daeron I wished to don the steel-and-ruby circlet of Aegon I to demonstrate his eagerness to be an active king, present in the field for the work he may have believed needed to be done for the realm. Not for Daeron I a showy crown laden with jewels, appropriate only for the throne room; Daeron may have wanted instead to copy his father’s example of coronal practicality as a representation of regal work ethic.
Likewise, Baelor may have wished to emulate his father in his choice of crown, though less for functionality and more for modesty. From the very moment he reached his majority, Aegon III prioritized the needs of his subjects above his own glorification: he would not only not spend one penny of his treasure on a party for himself, but insisted on distributing the food intended for this celebration to the poor. His crown, in turn, represented the bare minimum of expense for the exaltation of the dynasty; if a crown of precious metals could ever be called “cheap”, Aegon III’s certainly took the title. So when Baelor came to the throne, perhaps he sought to echo his father’s sentiments, and indeed exceed them. Just as Baelor would commit himself to grand acts of charity throughout his reign, so he may have preferred a crown which cost his government no gold, the better to spend it on his people. His father had worn the most basic crown man could make; he, Baelor, would wear the most basic crown nature would offer, made from the grasseous equivalent of precious metals and set with the floral equivalent of gems. He was a king, like his father, intent not on magnifying himself but on humbling his own regnal appearance, that his dedication to the least of his subjects be seen as his chief priority.
You know what I wonder? Where did Aegon I's crown come from. It was valyrian steel 100 years after the secret of making it disappeared. Did they have some valyrian steel just hanging around dragonstone that was then reworked into the crown? Or did they have the crown just chilling and ready to go, having been purchased back in Valyria? Like a crown is a very specific thing with a specific purpose, not a generic piece of jewelry that happens to also serve as the marker of royalty. And the implication that they might have just had a valyrian steel crown hanging around waiting for a king is interesting what with the dreaming thing and all. Maybe Daenys was like "yeah, buy a crown before we go dad, we're going to need one some say". Or maybe they had a 3rd ancestral blade and they melted it down into the dagger and the crown (tho the Catspaw dagger being explicitly Targaryen is a TV show thing, it's not necessarily out of the realm of possibility for the books imo.). Like who knows, but it's just a weird thing I've always kinda wondered about.
A family draped in green, gold and tragedy
I like thar we all kind of just...agree...that Morghul is black. 😂 I mean I added acid green accents to it because I liked green and black but it's definitely black.
I also have this horrible head cannon that Jaehaera inherited her mother's dragon dreams and she named her dragon death bc she had a dream and knew all it would do in its short life was die.
Random Valyrian prophecy: the gold of Casterly Rock will destroy us!
*Nobody pays much attention to that*
A couple hundred years later: Tyland Lannister moves the crown’s gold to Oldtown and Casterly Rock > he won’t tell where the gold is even under torture > Rhaenyra can’t fund her armies so raises taxes > the people of King’s Landing gets pissed so they storm the dragonpit > they kill almost all the dragons and the Targaryens never recover > many Targ kings go mad and die trying to bring dragons back > Aerys tries to burn King’s Landing so Jaime Lannister of Casterly Rock kills him to protect the city.
Congratulations Jaime and Brienne fandom for hitting this incredible milestone! 🎉
Jaime and Brienne have been the #1 Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire relationship at Archive of our Own for years and now it is the first ship in this fandom to break 10,000!
The love for JB still grows! Happy day! We appreciate and thank all the lovely JB fanfic writers of the past and present!
Ok, I was curious about the amount of Braime vs Jonerys (cause tbh they're who I'd have guessed was more popular due to like...them being slightly more central chatacters. And bc, well, it's Dany.), and I noticed something weird. Here are the fics that are tagged for the pairing vs those that have it listed as the relationship.
(Neither of which crests 10k, but I assume that's just bc of the normal ebb and flow of works being added and removed or re-tagged, not that the op was wrong when they took their screenie.)
It's exactly the same number.
And for Jonerys:
That's like...a huge difference in fics that are tagged vs have it in the relationship box. I wonder why that is. Like I wonder what social tagging convention on AO3 leads to this. Idk bc I suck horribly at tagging my fics. Maybe I did something wrong with the search? I have no other search parameters except for either the ship on the relationship box (1st screenie) or the ship name written out in the any field box and then me clicking on the tag bc I'm silly and just typed it in the basic search on the front page. But I did it the same for both. I wonder why there's such a large discrepancy for Jonerys but not Braime.
Also side note: too bad you can't include Spoiler Alert, lol. Love that book and Olivia Dade took her inspiration for that whole series from GoT/ASoIaF - specifically Braime. It's my favorite romance novel.
If instead of killing all the Reynes and Tarbecks, Tywin had just sent Lord Roger, his brother, Lord Walderan and his direct decendants to the Wall (including the baby), and sent Ellyn and her doughters to a Mother's House, would that be considered within Westerosi customs, or would it still be too extreme?
No, I think that would have been seen as a proportionate response within the norms of Westerosi society and polity: the Reynes and the Tarbecks were not just "overmighty vassals," but at this point were rebels-in-all-but-name. Eliminating them as a military and political threat while keeping the bloodshed to a minimum would have been seen as steering a middle path between pragmatic efficiency and chivalry.
The problem is that Tywin didn't want a reputation for moderation; he wanted a reputation that would evoke fear.
This is one of the many reasons why I don't think Tywin was actually politically savvy. He was just the meanest dog in the yard so people listened to him. If you're cruel enough you keep people in line with fear...
...until you push one too far and become the architect of your own demise. Ruling with fear rather than actual smarts and respect only works in the short term.

She never forgets a slight, real or imagined. She takes caution for cowardice and dissent for defiance. And she is greedy. Greedy for power, for honor, for love
I really enjoy this piece because it's not often we see her in anything but red.

Personally I'd like purple eyes and white hair, or white with brown streaks? Irl albino eyes look more purple or very rather than red:
(This is Bera, an albino model)
So like if he just gets his color bleached he should keep his light eyes. Gray and lavender are not that far apart in color.
The Realm’s Delight herself, queen Rhaenyra Targaryen!
I really wanted to give her her clothes but I got lazy.
