The sleepy little town of Yeoreum has been abuzz lately, with sleek black SUVs parked around the town hall, at the base of the mountain pathways, with strangers occupying the two small hotels for the first time in what feels like a lifetime. They claim to be working with the government on various projects, but the interlopers’ presence is beginning to make people a little uneasy.
There has been a recent outbreak in petty crime that has slowly escalated to more serious affairs; halmeoni’s with stolen wares, graffiti painting the buildings clustered in the town square, reports of muggings by masked figures, broken windows and vandalized cars.
There are rumors, additionally, that our young cohorts may be responsible. They’ve been acting so weird lately, haven’t they? Keeping to themselves, whispering together, disappearing at odd hours - strange noises from their apartments, burn marks on their clothes, the smell of smoke and debauchery and frankly, haven’t they always been bad seeds anyway?
Gossip is picking up, pinning steadily increasing reports of crime and unrest on the cluster of friends, and there are indications the town police will be handing the situation over to their government comrades. You know, since they happen to be in town.
