nurse by profession, so there are bouts of inactivity on this blog. but i sometimes have queued posts lined up while i’m offline
this blog is fully dedicated to the red queen series (2015) by victoria aveyard
this blog will mostly contain my headcanons / questions about the rq universe. you can also ask me anything on my inbox!
i first picked up red queen when i was in 10th grade, and i’m now a registered nurse who’s currently studying medicine. out of every fandom i have been a quiet long-time lurker of, red queen has been the only series where i wanted to expand my own creativity upon by coming up with headcanons, writing fanfiction, and even creating an entire blog dedicated to my love for the series
i’m not averse to specific ships in this fandom, and i love reading any and every headcanon about these silly little characters. but i do have favorite couples that are both canon and non-canon!
i will get booed immensely, but i am a maven x iris enjoyer. i love marecal and evangelane as canon ships. thomaven is another top ship for me. my favorite characters in the series are the calore brothers, with mare coming in at a very close second. but any and all ships in this fandom are enjoyable to me!
current WIPs include: a 4-part series of a canon divergence rq re-telling from the calore brothers’ dual pov, a thomaven backstory set in the canon universe, and an elara backstory
as of the moment, i have some trouble navigating ao3 as a site to publish my WIPs. none of my fics are currently available to read on any platform, but i do plan on posting sometime soon!
i’m open to other fans disagreeing with my headcanons or my favorite ships! as someone far removed from the sensitivity of beeing a young teen, i’ve come to realize that the beauty of fandom can sometimes lie in friendly discourse too. anyone in the rq fandom is welcome here, whether they ship non-canon pairs or support the less conventional pairing. or whether they ship no one at all!
i have a side blog dedicated to my WIPs: @mvsevales-writes it’s up but currently empty because i haven’t started publishing it yet. in my writing blog, i plan to share my insights (and potential progress) regarding my fanfic WIPs
i’m still getting used to tagging, but i’ll try my best to keep this blog as organized as possible <3
My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.
hardly share fic updates but this is something i wanna let my blog friends in on. maven calore continues to be a horrendous person. my extra tweaks are he has also become a slightly efficient king, a deplorable husband, and a grandiose father. that is all
i have this extremely dumb headcanon that norta is kind of like industrial hell but beautiful the way a crowded, light polluted, busy city is beautiful while the lakelands is not the most technologically advanced nor the most coveted place to be but it's beautiful the way farmland, lakefronts, and forests are beautiful
so imagine maveiris doing royal duties in industrial hell norta. it's the only home maven's ever known. the food is subpar and most likely greasy as fuck but he loves it. iris is tolerating it. maven's also well-adjusted to smog and cars and bright lights flashing in his face. he's used to all the noise, he might even find it comforting. but beside him, iris is overstimulated and hungry and praying to just go home
then imagine maveiris having to go to the lakelands together. royal business maybe. canonically, they did for iris's dad's funeral. it's much quieter out there. less in-your-face lights and hounding from courtiers. fresher food. maven's a greedy bully so he eats there too, but iris is equally satisfied with her meals here so they both win. but the serenity drives maven up a wall. he can hear elara's voice clearer out in the lakelands. he's not used to all the people pausing for prayer. he watches iris move through her religious rituals the same way a journalist would observe the subjects of a documentary. iris notices, of course, but it's easier to ignore maven when she's mostly surrounded by things that comfort her
“hey did you kiss the brick before you threw it” “prev so true” “EXACTLY!!!” “I am always saying this” “op im gonna kill myself” “dont talk to me im unwell about this” “agskhksj!!!"
nowhere else to rant but i just want to say, i wish my senior co-workers would tell it straight to my face if they didn't like how i was moving. i'm probably undiagnosed with something because i'm genuinely not very sensitive or quick to offend. i can hardly recall a time i felt sincere FOMO. my co-workers are all into this farming game and i don't really care if i'm not a part of their group. i move a bit roughly when dealing with patients because my principle is move fast, get out of their hair, give them adequate rest and comfort without me bombarding them every moment.
imagine my shock when my charge nurse told me one of my co-workers complained about how i handed her a piece of (clean!!!!!) tissue. i mean, i'd feel sorry if intentionally threw a shit-stained wipe directly in her face, or if i passed it to her aggressively and didn't help with the diaper change at all, but if all i did was toss a wipe into a clean water basin and my co-worker found a gripe with it, am i supposed to feel sorry??? am i supposed to hang my head in shame? i had no idea how to react because upon clarifying with my charge nurse, she told me that i didn't throw anything dirty in my co-worker's way.
honestly i kind of feel like nurses should be less quick to irritate overall but maybe that's just me 🤷♀️
so this is me saying if my co-worker threw a tissue at me, i'd think nothing of it. we're changing diapers, after all!
curious to know what the friends on this blog think so here i go: it's my day off today so i took my daughters to a nice little brunch spot in the city. for context, my girls are very young. one's just six months old and the other is a pre-schooler. they're generally well-behaved but the pre-schooler is in her giggling, waving, saying "hello!" to everyone she meets phase while the baby has started to babble. her teeth are also coming in so she gets fussy
so as my daughters and i are being shown to our dining booth, a group of older women see me and go silent. i thought nothing of the ladies' silence because i wouldn't go around assuming that bringing my children out would be burdensome to someone else. and i've never made it anyone else's obligation to look after my kids. and anyway, i've had luck with older ladies in the past who like saying hello to my girls and leaving us alone to dine out in peace.
my eldest has started to believe that all older ladies are the same brand of gentle and kind, so she walked up to them and said "hello!" to which one of the ladies looked me dead in the eye and said "she better not disturb our brunch. please tell her to settle down."
so out of sheer spite i let my teething baby fuss and my eldest laugh as loud as she wanted to while she drew on her placemat. the ladies left the brunch spot soon after. but the waitress serving our table thought my girls were delightful!
all the rights that come with marriage you should be able to have without marriage btw. you should be able to designate a person who can visit you in the hospital regardless of your relationship to that person.
