How much are your kiln creatures gonna cost in shop or commission? :)

helo!! i've talked to a friend who has a lot more experience since the last time i gave an estimate, and i can now say:

simplest small guys will start around 20 usd, more complex small guys more like 30+ usd

upper range 60 - 100+ usd (the "100+" is more if i start making more complex/larger ones than ive been posting)

i've been making mostly small creatures recently, so when i first open my shop there'll be more that are toward the lower end

shipping will be $15 usd to most places (including the US)

also, there might be some variability between restocks as i figure stuff out, bc there are aspects i'm only estimating right now (average time to pack up and post things, average time spent admin-ing, etc.)

the US also has a (currently) 10% tariff on my country

commissions im still not sure enough about to give actual numbers, i'll have to do some tests to see how much longer it typically takes for me to follow a ref. it might end up fairly case-by-case, but a commission would be more than the "equivalent" shop thing, if that makes sense?

current shop situation is that I'm trying to figure out a specific thing related to postage (and procrastinating calling the postal service about it. you all have permission to tase me via asks until i call) and also twiddling my fingers a bit about whether i'll have the right selection of things available (silly, since i should make my first restock small to make sure any unexpected hitches are easy to handle..)

once i sort out the postage thing it'll be pretty soon (a week or so) after that, since that's the thing holding me back rn

i will make more forest doggies :) they'll probably turn out quite varied/individual though, like how these guys are all foxes but all kinda different. also i have a little wolf the size of those foxes that i havent posted yet which will be available :)

Teacup goose horse implies it is the smaller version of a true full size goose horse but that leads me to wonder: is its larger cousin more the size of a goose or more the size of a horse?

horse size. you can ride them & there is an annual goose derby

im often having to catch them in a little net and make them put the flowers back its true....

Everytime I try to make circles they always come out weird looking and with cracks and finger prints despite having a clean surface and clean hands. Like the circles always look weird and never nice like other sculptures. Any tips?

im going to tell you...... ✨️ THE SWCRET.... ✨️ (not really a secret but y'know.)

Try smoothing your things when they're leather hard + sand them when they're dry (carefully.) 90% of small irregularities can be taken care of that way. For sanding you want the rough side of one of those green and yellow sponges or whatever clay tools you have that work for it (gotta experiment a bit.) !!! ALWAYS DO ANYTHING THAT CREATES DUST OUTSIDE !!! and wear a mask to block dust, inhaling clay particles long term is no joke.

For cracks, if it's cracking while you're working, either your clay is getting too dry or that clay body is just more difficult to work with for handbuilding. If it's cracking as it dries, it's probably either drying too fast (move it somewhere cooler) or you may not have paper under it? (it shrinks as it dries, so putting the piece on a bit of newspaper type stuff lets it move slightly on the shelf instead of sticking and cracking.)

These tips are for ceramic clay specifically, just in case you're using air dry or polymer clay!

hello! weirdly specific question: could you go over the process you use for glazing the eyes on your little creatures? specifically the weird dogs and the walky shark if that helps! i'm just starting to learn some basic ceramics stuff (wobbly mugs and weirdly shaped plates etc etc) and i'm really curious how you go about those particular details 🐸

very shrimple!

solid black underglaze

i sometimes put very watered down pink underglaze around the edge of the eye. usually before the black but i sometimes touch it up after too

clear glaze over the top makes it shiny (anything non-matte that works with the clay and underglaze you're using)

i usually do the eyes last, and i do this on bisque

tools-wise, you'll just want a really tiny brush as well as something you can use to correct mistakes quickly (rag, q-ttip, paper towel, etc.)

the main oopsy that can happen is underglaze running off the eye, which is anything from mildly annoying to "oh fuck i have to wipe half the face off." it'll happen if the clay is too saturated with water or the brush is too heavily loaded. you get an instinct for what's too wet over time. also, look out for a single droplet of water being higher up on your brush, ready to roll down at the wrong moment and fuck your shit up. our enemy the water droplet.

i think they could find these drawings in a sort of 2026 Lascaux cave in the future and then at a separate archaeological dig they find the ceramic goose horse and so on and it's a big anthropological breakthrough adn our work it put side by side in an exhibit at the important museum. also i love his face thank you.
