Summer Internship at the Supreme Court Bronx County-Civil Division with Judge Michale A. Frishman and staff was AWESOME!
Supreme Court Bronx County, NY
After a wonderful community Christmas dinner at Grace Baptist Church, I made my way home with my take home plates. I relaxed, ate some of the food then changed my coat and made my way on the metro north down to Manhattan. When we arrived at Grand Central, I noticed that there were barricades blocking all of the main entrances and exits. There were cops telling passengers that they could not leave out of main egresses and that we had to go exit through the subways. I was confused, but that’s where I was already going, so continued my way to the #6 train. My destination was one train stop away at 33rd St. going to Kips Bay. As I was walking using my Google Maps navigation to help me, I heard the sounds of chanting and protesting. I walked to the corner I saw a large Ceasefire/Pro Palestinian March was coming down the street. I stood on the corner as they started to pass, and I knew I had to join them! We walked and chanted, “Free, free Palestine!“ Chanting and walking with the crowd for a block or two, we turn the corner, and I realize that the March was going in the opposite direction of the movie theater so I slipped out of the march and walked back towards Kipps Bay on the east side. I chose the Kips Bay movie theater because, which I’ve gone to numerous times over the decades, because I find it to be comfortable and often not too crowded. I actually, thought that because of the neighborhood that there probably wouldn’t be too many African-Americans but as I sat in my seat looking at previews, I learned that I was wrong, and that many of my African descended siblings must’ve had the same idea that I had about coming to Kips Bay. I chuckled at myself. The short story was the color purple the musical on film was the perfect gift that I could give myself. Yes, at times it’s was little saccharine and extra sappy, where every horrible situation turns out perfectly, but between the drama, the story captured me they’re in the dark. One of the most memorable scenes of the film was the reimagining and emphasizing the sexual/romantic connection between Celie and Shug Avery.

The Rooms We Enter- I may have been one of only two African American men at the New York Democracy Forum Dinner (fact that made me very sad the more I think about it), but there were at least two other #bowtie wearers at the affair.
Wanted to post this to encourage myself and anybody else on their law school journey that is not going smoothly. Keep at it and don’t give up! Restarts are a great opportunity with your, our, name(s) on it. I thought, “where can I post this and not to many people see it? Tumblr!!!” Ha!!!
