There's something fascinating about that if I duckduckgo "礎となる" today, the first hit I get is some kind of content farm that accidentally has an image of an old Polish-language psalter as a background of its header. Alas, it's supposedly a ビジネス用語, not the もっともたいせつな石 from Ps118 (口語訳 has 隅のかしら石 and I don't think any translation used いしずえ). On Google, that result would never appear anywhere near the first page because it's an obvious spam with the same post replicated under many different domains.

Looking at my #etymology tag, I apparently learned what おやつ means only 11 years ago. Feels silly. Isn't it like basic kweebledge? And about getting etymologies listed, pekoe and байховый are now linked on Wiktionary because of me, but only as “compare” (not my edits, because I don't speak Russian, or Chinese; I don't speak much in general).

Fun fact: Etymologists aren’t sure where the word ouate came from. Voici Wiktionary:

There’s even a theory that connects ouate to Japanese 綿 wata. That’s how hard they’re grasping at straws beceuse where the phoque did this word come from?!

Curiously, that last sentence lacks any reference while the preceding ones come from published citable works. It was just added by some rando last year for no good reason. Why did nobody bother to mention any of the other theories listed in TLF like ouette or واضع‎? Maybe I should start adding my crackpot theories to other words too.

Fun fact though, we have a descendant of that French word in Polish and it's spelled wata.
