THE PROBLEM WITH LEARNING TO LOVE YOURSELF

“But even with constant rhetoric, the movement of body acceptance and self love has never been so crucial or more powerful. However, the mainstream image is failing to convey the entirety of the movement.It’s so much bigger than liking a selfie or laughing at an insult.Women are reclaiming their sexuality, their bodies. Men are realizing emotions and insecurities don’t invalidate their masculinity. Fat people are denouncing the stigma that demonizes their bodies. Folks struggling with their gender identity are finding communities and resources. People of color are refuting the standards which have dehumanized them for all of history. The self love campaign is picking away at the microagressions caused by widespread oppression.

…We are beings capable of change, of power, of LOVE. To diminish ourselves, to associate our worth with the way our genetic material decided to form…to hold ourselves up to harmful standards created by the very system we need to transform…..I can only say that once you reject the poisonous thought of looking a certain way ensures internal peace, will you find the self love we all look for. Real, lasting, genuine, all-encompassing love.”
