Terrific Twos

My islabear is turning 2 in 2 days...

Like many before me have written, the 2nd year just whizzed by. Literally! I remember Her just starting to take her steps and using words like umma and appa to get my attention. She has since developed and exploded in her words, communicaton style and personality. She is a balloon full of helium that never deflates! She is energetic with her jumps, body movements (dancing) and of course...her voice! This little canary is always- I mean ALWAYS singing a tune. Lately, she makes up her own tunes and verses. She loves it when I mimic her sounds and melodies. Needless to say....she is so much fun! I love being with her. She makes my world colorful and oh, so delicious!

I love putting her to bed. This is the one moment when it’s just her and me. Just the two of us, bonding, singing, playing around a little before her milk and bedtime. She laughs with this quirky suffocating sound as she’s laughing. She used to drool so much, each picture I take of her shows a little drool drip at the bottom of her chin.

I am immensely blessed to have her in my life. Even though, she’s difficult in other ways with her stubbornness and strong opinionated personality. I cannot imagine a more upbeat, smart, affectionate, adorable little girl. I love you Isla. You are like air to me.

night night routines

I wanted to jot this down before it becomes that distant memory that i’ll never be able to recollect.

Our bedtime routines consist of teamwork between daddy bear and mama bear. He takes the kids upstairs a little after dinner time for a bath. We try to convince K to take a bath with I to save water and time. This strikes as a battle at times because there are days when she says there is not enough space for the both of them... (she likes to lay her whole body in the water and pretend she’s swimming) We sorta hype up the bath experience with her and tell her that I has the best time taking a bath with big sis-which is very true!

During this time, I am downstairs getting I’s milk ready, warming it up and getting her 2 different binkys ready. I place the 2 extra binkys in her crib, take the older ones out from the day before and set the warm milk in our room next to the window. I grab I from the bath, diaper her up, lotion her up and comb her cute end curls while she reads her books in her room. I lay her sleep sack on our bed to put on her while she’s playing with her toys in her room or interacting with big sis as she’s still in the bath. Sometimes I can find her playing in big sis’ room and reading her books. As K is coming out of the bath and daddy helping to get her ready in her pj’s....I am carrying I into our room. I zip her up in the sleepsack, play kokoko- rubbing our noses together or we’re singing a song together as I turn off the light and sit us down next to the window. We’ve just recently quit using the bottles and so my husband has no more bottles/nipples to wash at night. I is a little over 23 months old and we’ve finally decided to quit it cold turkey.

With K, we had her sit in front of the tv, drinking her milk out of her sippy cup (zoli) at this age, but I decided since it’s been going so well, with I drinking her night bottle in the dark, I decided to keep her in the dark while drinking milk out of the sippy cup. (using a plastic straw each night has helped with less straw washing which is a real pain).

I then lay her on my body as I recline back. On most nights, she’s so tired, she just lays on me and passes out. Other nights where she’s not as tired, I’ll still place her in her crib before she has the chance to cry out for company as she’s become accustomed to having someone lay on the floor or sit in the chair in her room while she falls alseep.

We pray together, sometimes she’ll try to burp as she’s siting on my lap and I wipe any excess milk or drool off her face. I love this quiet time in the dark with her weight on me. I don’t get to see much of her during the day since I work full time. And I’m not home in the mornings when she wakes up. The calm and quiet gives me rest and a pause that I always long for during the day. Though I’m not there to pick her up as the day begins, I love being the last person she sees and spends time with before she starts to dream.

New Beginnings

Here’s to a new beginning. My life as a writer-mostly to record my adventures in parenthood and life in general. 

A short introduction of myself. I am a full-time working mama with 2 beautiful olives...hence my blog name. They love to eat olives, sing, dance and drive me crazy...all at the same time. I’ve been wanting to write for some time now but as many would guess, juggling life with kids and work has many challenges.

This is mostly for me to jot down my thoughts, ideas and ramblings. I love being a mom and I love doing what I do. I struggle with many things as time for myself and trying to live a healthier lifestyle. But trying is better than quitting and giving up. So these ramblings are for my 2 olives, so that they may grow up to read and learn how much I loved every moment of their little lives....the way I experience them and see them in my world. I love them. A LOT!
