hihi! you can call me tsun (she/her) and i'll be writing miss han chaeri here, also known by her stage name, cherry (very creative, she knows)! she is the leader & main vocal of i:ris (and yes the order does matter to her bc she prides herself as i:ris' #1 ambassador!!!! her personal desires if any come second!!!!!) and the resident kh town stan/loyalist - whether that's something to be viewed as positive or not is up to the individual :')

i will admit i rushed her pages a bit but i think they should be sufficient enough to start for now (although they're mostly just the same stuff in her acceptance post) as i'm still figuring her out as i go and begin plotting, since she's kind of a new muse for me! i'll also leave some ideas, info, etc below the cut but feel free to check them out and like this post if you want to plot!!!

to anyone following i:ris closely, it was no surprise that their group's sound and identity was always at the forefront of conversation surrounding them. it seemed to be all anyone had to say about them and is such a large issue regarding their standing as a group so it wasn't difficult for those comments and discussions to seep into chaeri's heart, causing a bout of uncertainty and worry every time they started preparing for a comeback.

even as they began to see more stable success, chaeri would then wonder how long it might last - after all, their most successful promotions were albums with yoon sunyoung behind them and chaeri knew her contributions were only temporary; that eventually, someone else would take over her position and if they didn't do as well then i:ris may falter again. with only two years left on their contract before renewals and the whispers around the company and elsewhere saying all sorts of things about their future, chaeri was unsurprisingly worried, even a little scared. it didn't help either that their next comeback was to be a song that chaeri personally felt was a pretty different direction from what they had released so far, allowing the uncertainties already planted in her to grow more quickly.

with all these thoughts and feelings swirling around, it was challenging for chaeri to stay focused during practice. although she followed along with the choreo video on her phone, it was almost mechanically - like she was just going through the motions without actually absorbing it. sure, she was memorizing the steps but her head felt like it was separated from her body and in another place on its own.

the sound of the music she was starting to get used to suddenly cut off, causing chaeri to snap out of her daze and look around, slightly confused because of the change in the background noise of her surroundings. her eyes land on yeona nearby, as chaeri was sharing the space with her since they both had time to practice together right now, and seeing her group mate makes something inside of her deflate so chaeri plops herself onto the ground, back against the mirror, and arm reaching out for the water bottle she had set aside earlier.

it's only after taking a large sip that she finally opens her mouth, intending to say something to yeona but not sure how to start. "do you..." she pauses, presses her lips together to consider her next words, then opens them again. "do you feel any... thing.... weird? about this comeback," she adds on, voice obviously hesitant. "well, maybe not weird exactly, but... something doesn't feel right." honestly, chaeri's not even sure what she's saying now, internally wincing at how vague even she thinks she sounds.

she lets outs a weak laugh. "i'm not making sense, am i?" which was odd, since chaeri thought she did a pretty good job of keeping things together normally. but she still found herself saying something anyways, maybe because she just wanted to know if yeona was feeling similar considering how she often shared chaeri's sentiments and thought she might have an answer for her. "do you think the heat is getting to me?" she lets out another laugh, still weak but a bit more lighthearted as she stays slumped against the mirror.

whatever these thoughts roaming around her head are, chaeri just feels like the other would understand her the best and trusted in that feeling when deciding to speak up.

Sunny hadn't expected to run into anyone in the hallway outside the waiting rooms, let alone her. He clocked the blonde hair first, then the face, and his stomach did something embarrassing before his brain caught up to who exactly he was looking at. Cherry. Han Chaeri. The girl whose group's comeback he'd had on loop in his earbuds for the better part of a month earlier this year. He kept walking, because stopping dead like a fanboy wasn't the vibe he'd built for the cameras, but he made sure his path crossed close enough to hers that a nod wouldn't look forced.

"Hey," he said, easy, like his pulse wasn't doing something ridiculous, "Sunny. RIIOT."

It felt strange introducing himself to someone he'd been watching from the audience side of a screen for years, but different companies meant no guarantee she'd know his face the way he knew hers. He kept his hands in his pockets, working hard to look like a guy who ran into sunbaes all the time and not like someone who'd replayed "Attitude" enough times to know every ad-lib. "Good stage today," he added, nodding toward the direction she'd come from, keeping it short, keeping it cool. There was a whole list of things he wanted to ask her -- what was next for I:RIS, whether the comeback rumors had any truth to them -- but none of that felt like a day-one conversation, so he let it sit. For now, cool was the move. He'd find his way back to her eventually.

꒰ ୨୧ ꒱ ┈ it was a common sight backstage: artists greeting each other while passing by, keeping interactions polite but short as they moved from one place to another, usually in a rush or out of professionalism. chaeri had long gotten used to the act that it was just second nature now--as she's sure every other person in the industry is too--and she doesn't even think about it anymore; she just does it, and today should've been like all the other days - until it dawns on her that someone actually stopped to introduce themselves instead of just breezing by. chaeri blinks once, taking in the situation, before politely smiling and tipping her head to keep her manners. "hello! i:ris' cherry," she returns, introducing herself as well out of habit.

she takes this time to get a better look at the other's face and mentally goes through the faces she's filed away in her brain for interactions. obviously, she doesn't know everyone in the business but she's at least aware of those active and anyone with some kind of fame or presence - and riiot is definitely a group she knows of. perhaps unsurprisingly though, she's not too connected to them so she can really only recognize faces and match a name to them.

"thank you, riiot was great today too," she smiles, appreciative of the comment but not forgetting to say something nice back. to be honest, chaeri only caught a glimpse of riiot's stage because she was called away for something else shortly after they had started performing but it wasn't her first time seeing them perform anyways so she was familiar with their stages.

now... does she keep this going or do they just part here? chaeri wasn't sure if sunny had stopped her for something or just wanted to say hi, and she didn't want to just leave abruptly in case it looked rude, so she decides to leave it up to his decision and flashes a small, hesitant smile. "well, it was nice meeting you...?" chaeri starts then trails off intentionally, giving sunny an opportunity to continue if there was anything else he wanted from her; if not, she would wrap this up quickly since she didn't know what else she could say to him right now. she wasn't in any particular rush though, as her next schedule wasn't for a bit, so she had some time to spare if needed.

it's easy to convince yourself that everything is going just fine — the weight on your shoulders aren't too heavy, the walls aren't caving in on you, the static in your brain is only temporary. hyeongyu has become quite the expert on this matter, burying each small spike of negativity, burrowed deep within the soil of his mindspace. there are days where he'd slip up though, the mask he desperately tries to hold together cracking despite himself. this would result in an additional piercing to his ear ( he might be running out of space at this point ), or an impulsive purchase he regrets as soon as he clicks the checkout button.

other days, he stuffs his lanky body into the supplies closet of the kh entertainment building, cigarette between his lips as he inhales the smoke of his own demise — consequences creeping up at him in little doses. hyeongyu has no excuse; call it a spark of immaturity amongst in his awfully tight-knit image. the smell of bleach and disinfectants does little to conceal his crime, but the disorganized display of cleaning tools provide a sort of comfort he can't seem to find in the confines of his own dorm. he shouldn't stay, but he's procrastinating his inevitable exit — until all too suddenly, it's much too late.

the door hiding his transgression swings open, and while his reflex quickly pulls the cigarette out of his mouth, it's still visible between his fingers.

"noona...!" hyeongyu exclaims in a hushed tone, blinking blankly, unprepared for this exact situation. there's no defending himself — hyeongyu had been caught red-handed just like that. "oh, this, this is — well, yeah, it's exactly what it looks like."

he coughs out a defeated laugh, the strong scent of nicotine wafting through the air. "so, is it okay to ask you to close the door...?" to think hyeongyu could muster the audacity to say that with his whole chest — then again, he's already shrinking underneath chaeri's sharp gaze. "i'm sorry," he mumbles, the rest of his sentence trapped in his throat.

꒰ ୨୧ ꒱ ┈ hyeongyu's reaction is almost comical, like it was straight out of a drama or something. the scene itself is not surprising - chaeri's obviously seen people smoke before and it's quite common to see it in their work too. she just never imagined that one of these people would be hyeongyu.

chaeri's lips press into a line, disapproval clear on her face, although she doesn't say anything else as she waits to see what he says-- or does. however, hyeongyu doesn't even try to defend himself and instead accepts being caught which somehow has her deflating a bit. was he going through something serious enough that he needed to smoke? or was he doing it just because? but if there is some kind of underlying reason then that was a more pressing issue to her than the act of smoking itself. while she may not like it herself and won't ever try either, it doesn't mean she should force others to be the same; it's their life and it wasn't impacting hers (for now, anyways - who knew what might happen in the future but she would cross that bridge if she got there).

still, she cares about hyeongyu and if there's something more here and smoking is just the surface, well...

she lets out a sigh, unfortunately a little too lenient with the other, and closes the door behind her before immediately plopping herself next to him. "you're a handful, really," she says without any real bite. "and you don't need to apologize to me-- but maybe you should say sorry to your lungs." chaeri gives him a flat look while taking a noisy sip of the drink still in her hands that was now collecting condensation on the outside of the cup.

"so." she deliberately leaves a decent pause while rubbing her hands against her pants to wipe them off momentarily, before continuing. "couldn't you at least choose a better place to smoke? this can't be a very ventilated closet." better to joke a little first to loosen things up, chaeri thinks, as she gauges hyeongyu's expression.

perhaps junseo should have think it through really before speaking up ― while he normally do as so given not only that holds the leadership role of the group but for the fact that it really isn't all too common to air out any sort of worries out in the public, what more to a completely unrelated person, it might have been that junseo had bottled up so much and he did not know whom he could really turn to. ( or for the fact that seeing other groups be so aligned with their leader had given him a sort of envy or wistfulness. they're not too much, he reasons and convinces himself entirely. he loves the other members dearly and puts them first where he can. it's always him who is the underlying issue. why was he picked as the leader in the first place. )

he finds himself snapping out before he spirals for the worst especially when the female idol before him had so earnestly offer a sort of piece of thoughts to him. the leader of hiraeth need not embarrass himself further in front of a complete stranger. not more than he's already done so. "i.." he draws out a response and lets it drag and now he starts wondering if he's just being selfish for taking up someone else's time. he glances around, as if he had been all too mindful in that very moment. for most, he's thankful no one seem to particularly pay attention to two opposite gender idols conversing, given that they probably work on an nda and nothing's worth sharing out to the public for any sort of discourse, or for the fact that the two leaders of the group are of the same age and had assumed that they were just really good friends when in reality, this had been junseo's very first conversation with chaeri.

"forget i say anythingー" he mumbles, and as just as he starts thinking of the prayers he learned from his father and sunday classes he attends in his earlier youth back in jeju; he prayed deeply that the ground would open up and swallow him whole. "i'm sorry to have taken up your time" junseo strings out an apology and is saved by the bell that comes in the form of their equivalent manager calling them to get ready.

perhaps after this, he will try again. that is if chaeri doesn't find him to be weird.

꒰ ୨୧ ꒱ ┈ although she tried to keep things as neutral as possible, chaeri couldn't help but be a little curious. everything about the situation was out of the blue and she couldn't guess what junseo would do next so all she could do is watch him consider what to say, looking at him a little expectant. he had called out to her first after all so surely he had something he wanted?

"...?"

but the longer she waits, the more drawn out the silence becomes - and at this point, chaeri is more confused than ever. when she hears junseo say to forget it, she tilts her head, unsure of what just happened, then straightens up and slightly opens her mouth as if to say something before quickly closing it upon hearing his apology. "oh, no, it's--" she cuts herself off as she hears his manager calling for him, returning to a polite smile afterwards and nods her head. "don't worry about it, have a good performance," she smiles a bit more despite how unsettled she feels about how this first conversation had gone - if you could even call it that.

still, they were both busy so chaeri pushed the interaction out of her thoughts to focus on i:ris' upcoming performance instead and soon forgot it even happened until much later, when they had finished on stage and were heading back to grab their belongings. while bowing to the other artists and staff she passes by along the way, she spots junseo and their earlier meeting flooded into her mind instantly, causing her to slow down.

should she be the one to bother him this time?

logically, chaeri understood that she should just let him be; there was no good reason for her to get involved if he truly wanted her to forget it like he said so. but her thoughts circled back to wondering if he genuinely wanted advice or maybe someone to just talk to, and that was something she could understand having been in that position many times. when you're a leader, you very rarely have someone else to rely on within your own group when you're supposed to be the one looking after them so it seemed natural to go looking for help outside - and who better than another leader?

with a sigh, chaeri knows her mind is already made up so she tells her manager that she needs to go to the washroom and that she'll meet them back at the waiting room. once she sees them off, she heads over to junseo only after making sure no one is paying attention to her, then stands close enough to him so he could hear her but far enough to keep a believable distance. "sorry to bother," she begins with as she glances down at her phone to look like she's using it. "did you... want to continue where we left off before? you can say no, of course, and we can pretend this never happened too."

if anyone had to ask what moon junseo's first impression of han chaeri is, he would admit with his whole heart that he finds the leader of i:ris to be rather... intimidating. and before anyone tries laughing at him because simply how could such sweetheart come off scary when and in fact, not to mention as well, that junseo easily towers over her by height itself which should normally come off menacing if ever. anyone in the industry as well would agree wholeheartedly that chaeri would do no harm physically, sure, but verbally..? junseo could think of scenarios where her words could hurt.

he swears he had no beef against her for whatsoever reason for the way he thinks of her as a threat. not by competition, but under one past circumstances had led the leader of hiraeth coming across the other leader counterpart in her stern moments. it's scary, he thinks. but also respectable with how easily the other members of her group fall in line with her words. perhaps it had been her aura; an unmovable amount of charisma despite junseo knowing that i:ris had debuted the same year hiraeth did. though if they were to count by months, his group would be leading by seniority.

could it be that chaeri had more leadership skills honed from years during predebut and that unlike himself, she had earned the title whereas junseo had been given the responsibility of it? ( he doesn't think much of it, or rather tries not to doubt his own capabilities but his lack of self esteem builds heavy on his shoulder. )

"how do you do it?" junseo asks out of the blue on one fine evening where their groups had been waiting backstage for their turn to perform for the rookie stage for a year end show. "i mean, the whole... leadership thing." he adds, knowing that if he had been asked a question so out of context, it would earn him a questioning look.

it's an odd question to ask of course, considering the fact that they are basically waiting to get on stage and that this had been their first conversation aside from regular exchanged greetings between groups and junseo isn't quite sure what's gotten into him. perhaps the differences of handling their respective teams has made the leader of hiraeth rather hyperaware that he isn't as great of a leader as he thought he would be. ( and he thinks about this... rather much for it to be unhealthy. )

even so, he had to ask.

꒰ ୨୧ ꒱ ┈ year end shows were always hectic, with far too many groups all crammed into one place - especially for the newer groups who had even less space accommodated to them. the set list for these shows were always tightly packed as well so groups would be crossing paths with each other all the time backstage while they moved from the stage to their waiting room and everywhere in between. although it's been a few years since they've debuted, the sheer commotion and energy of events like this was something chaeri hadn't fully gotten used to yet, even more so as someone who liked quieter moments.

still, as i:ris' leader, she had to act like she had everything together and that she was a presence her members could rely on in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. by now, head counts were inevitable, even if there were only six of them in the group; with how many people there were, it was easy to lose track of someone and chaeri wasn't the type to force the members to stay in the waiting room the entire time or anything. right now though, they should all be here as they're waiting for their turn on stage, so chaeri can't help but do another review to make sure everyone's present and nothing is out of place, even going as far as to go over the stage directions and set up one more time then double checking all their sound packs and mics are secure too.

she's so in the zone of ensuring they have every step prepared for a successful stage that she almost misses a question that she only realizes a moment later was directed at her. with a confused look on her face, chaeri turns around to where she heard the voice coming from and is surprised - not only to see who asked the question, but why. it was quite out of the blue and there were many other groups and staff milling around who could overhear anything yet he decided to speak up now? so suddenly?

"oh, um--?" she starts first before pausing, tilting her head as she considers her words. chaeri had no idea what to say but even if she wasn't caught off guard like this and had more time to think things over, she's not sure she would have a better answer anyways. "it helps that my members are kind and listen well," she finally settles on saying, not wanting to go into detail with someone she's not close with but also because there wasn't much to say really. truthfully, it's not that difficult being i:ris' leader when it comes to managing her members since they don't really cause trouble in a way where she needs to step in. as for the other issues that come with leadership, well...

"being a leader isn't always a walk in the park but keeping them in line is one of the easier parts." chaeri does her best to answer without saying too much since junseo is technically a sunbae to her and the last thing she wants is a rumor that she's not respecting her seniors or brushing them off with disinterest.

she is really confused right now though, that's for sure, so she feels a little hesitant about the entire situation and continuing it but seeing as she's not in a position to cut it off, she presses her lips together in some kind of neutral, faint smile. "do you..." she pauses again, wondering if she should really ask what comes to mind; it's not her business to poke into another group's affairs nor does she have a specific desire to know but if he's asking her, an idol who debuted after him, a question like this then he must have some kind of worry? "...it might not be my place to ask but... do you have some kind of concern?"

it was basically second nature to chaeri at this point, walking through the familiar walls of kh on her way back to the studio room she was currently using to work on some songs, a sweetened iced latte in hand that she had picked up as a much-needed sugar break. bowing or nodding her head in greeting to those she passed, a pleasant smile on her face each time, she re-takes the path she had long grown used to, passing by multiple doors and a stairwell exit along the way - until she smells something while passing by.

the scent--or rather, the stench--makes her stop in her tracks and she tilts her head at the exit door, wondering if she should follow her instincts or not. experience tells her it's obviously someone smoking which isn't something out of the ordinary, and her principles remind herself that it's definitely not something she'd bother sticking her nose into when it doesn't concern her (as far as she knows, anyways).

yet something keeps her rooted in that spot, staring at the door like it was telling her to just check; see if really was nothing for her to be concerned about.

with a sigh, chaeri uses her free hand to grab the door handle and after a moment of decision, pushes it open-- only to see it really is someone she knows; a junior she's become quite fond of over time, to the point that she might as well adopt him as her own. "hyeongyu?" she asks first, surprised to see the younger here. then, her eyes flick down to the thin object held between his fingers before widening. returning her gaze to the other, she arches a brow next as all the pieces fall into place and gives him a disbelieving look. "are you seriously smoking?"

maybe she should re-think adopting this brat after all.
