I have a problem with the term ‘boyfriend’ being applied to clothing, like boyfriend jeans or boyfriend flannels.

Because the implication is that a woman, wearing a flannel shirt or a boxy-cut blouse or straight-legged jeans, must be wearing her boyfriend’s clothing. Underlying assumptions: she’s taken (he’s laid a claim, so hands off, fellas) and she’s straight (if she weren’t, she wouldn’t have any ‘boyfriend’ clothes to wear, right?).

 Why do we have to gender and heteronormalize clothing like that??
