Poem in honour of me being 4 months clean
“Clean Enough”
the scars fade— and I’m proud, mostly.
my skin forgets what I can’t, and that feels like a small betrayal.
there’s beauty in it, this smoothness, this quiet. but also loss. of proof, of pain, of something that was mine.
still, I wake without bleeding. I choose the day, even when the night whispers.
it isn’t always peace, but it’s something like it. and maybe that’s enough.
for now, I call it clean. and mean it. even if part of me mourns the mess I survived.
also a poem from the new, unreleased collection. very possibly my own all-time favourite.
they should invent a grief that doesn’t define you in new and strange ways for the rest of your life

"'I have led a toothless life,' he thought. 'A toothless life. I have never bitten into anything. I was waiting. I was reserving myself for later on--and I have just noticed that my teeth have gone. What's to be done?'"
