That big Waterstones was miles away and Noah found little to no comfort in knowing Emmett’s location. It felt like at any moment now the door might break down and then it’d be a matter of minutes before the man would do something. There was no way anyone could save him if the man would break in right now. If that man had something on him, a weapon of some sort, it’d be over all too soon and it wouldn’t have mattered that Emmett had come as fast as he could’ve done and that Nissim had done the same. It’d be too late. And perhaps all Noah would’ve done by calling him in the first place was bring them in trouble too.
More ramming.
“I th-think he’s using his shoulder–” Noah replied, his voice barely making it out. Wasn’t that what they did in the movies when they tried to barge through a locked door? Didn’t it always work? Just how strong were those doors and how likely was it that this man would be able to get through? Noah had never needed to know, but now he couldn’t imagine ever having been okay sleeping in this place, especially not alone. Why hadn’t he thought about this before? He could’ve done something about the fact that the door seemed to be breaking as he was watching the man’s aggressive bangs against it.
It was hard to breathe and even harder to know what to do. Noah was shaking, his eyes wide and fixated and the hand that wasn’t occupied with his phone had turned into a fist, like that’d protect him if the man were to lunge himself at Noah now. He’d never thrown a punch. How was he supposed to do this?
The banging became louder and he felt sick at Noah’s words. I think he’s using his shoulder. What the hell was Emmett supposed to do if this man got inside? “The police are on their way too, okay? Maybe they will be there before me and Nissim. Okay?” His voice was shaking and he was trying to instill some kind of comfort into Noah, but in actual fact he grew more and more nervous with every bang. At first, he’d thought it must be a misunderstanding--the man ramming on Noah’s door must be drunk, or be at the wrong door and think it was his or maybe he had some other issue, but why would he go to this extent? Why was he ramming his shoulder into the door of his boyfriend’s house?
“Did you say anything to the guy, or not? Did you hear anything he said? Maybe he thinks that’s his front door--Is that possible?”
Because that seemed to be the only explanation for someone trying to get into someone’s house without it being to hurt whoever lived there. Surely the man could hear Noah through the door? Oh god.
“Nissim should be there any moment, okay? Just breathe and... and is there anything you can grab? Anything heavy, maybe, that you could use if, err...”
At this point it didn’t matter anymore what the hell the man was there for. Emmett would make sure he got beat the fuck up, regardless.
