I haven't been on my social media for half a year. now. I wasn't really sure what direction I wanted to go with for my art especially since I had terrible migraines from doing digital. So after almost two years I decided to go back to traditional and watercolor! It's really awkward and it's not really good but I'm excited!

I was really flustered when I first read this ask. I was going to respond with you’re asking the wrong person but I decided I’m not going to.

Compared to other established artists, they’re a lot more successful than me but it’s really important to see that they all started where I am now. I will tell you that the beginning is the hardest and most discouraging part of becoming a freelancing artist. Nothing seems like it wants to go the way you want to. Everything is so slow. 

Though what keeps me from straying off is the end result: being able to do what I love and making a living from it. The most important thing to keep in mind is your end result, looking at where you are now, and then the process of getting from start to finish. I suggest keeping a notebook to write in to chart this out. Keep updating it and use it as a reference guide on your process.

Your art will become a business and you’ll have to treat it as such. Which means research, schedule, commitment, and finance. I know too many talented artists that want a job in the art field but live like their art is a hobby. 

Lastly, keep in mind that your career goals will change based on your needs and desires. I went to college for fashion design, and a few months before graduation I decided that I want to be an illustrator. Mostly because I finally addressed and sorted through my life goals and priorities. 

I’m still kinda embarrassed typing this all out because I still don’t feel like I’m the right person to ask this. It’s a slow process but you do realize over time that nothing will change if you don’t start somewhere.

Hello and thank you! Personally for me, inspiration used to be really hard to come by. I’d more often wait around till inspiration found me! Growing more as an artist meant to be able to take inspiration from around me. Even something simple like pencils or notebooks could easily become more interesting if you create a story and add your personal style to it. I admit I still have difficulty doing this especially when I’m having art block and I don’t feel very good about my work. 

But tbh I just really like spooky things and gay girls so I always want to draw that

My partner and I are planning to move to Los Angeles during the following year and unfortunately I don’t have a job. Commissions are open to help towards reaching our goal!
