Can you explain your major pleasee

Hi there! I’m sorry it took me a while to respond. I actually changed my major from Digital Media Production to Media Communication Studies. I felt the Comm Studies would be a broader area for me to explore what I enjoyed the most.

The Video Production major at Florida State focused more on the writing, producing, and creating of digital works. I took a few of the foundation courses for the major before I switch so if you have any questions about that let me know and I can go more in depth.

things they don’t mention about studying abroad

hello lovely humans, as a human that has just finished her first day in a new country with a language she thought she was good at and is having a crisis because she’s jet lagged and has gone through 3-4 of the 5 stages of culture shock in like 9 hours, i’ve decided to provide you with all of the things i wish people would’ve told me before i walked on that damn plane

you WILL experience culture shock. it will SUCK ASS AND BALLS. if you aren’t feeling culture shock then you are not being immersed in the culture — everyone from diplomats to peace corps agents to language teaching assistants to volunteers in other countries get some form of culture shock, but the severity varies based on the person! however bad it is or isn’t, take a deep breath, cry as much as you need to, try to get some sleep, drink a lot of water, and stay engaged while sticking to what you’re comfortable with.

be patient with yourself. the above problem requires a fuck ton of patience. give it to yourself. this is a difficult time, emotionally AND physically.

call your mom and cry on the phone. i did that. it works wonders.

TRAVEL!! NECK!!! PILLOW!!! MY NECK STILL HURTS FROM THE PLANE RIDE

spotify premium for students will be your new best friend. it seems expensive. it’s 100% worth it. just get it.

GET A PORTABLE CHARGER FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLYYY. i have an eddie bauer one that can be plugged in or charged w/solar energy and! i! love! it!

WRITE A BLOG/DIARY/JOURNAL/WHATEVER. EVEN IF YOU MAKE VLOGS JUST…JUST DO IT. this SAVED ME today and has helped me sort out my messy head. use it when you need it. it’s there to help you.

IF YOU HAVE PEOPLE GOING WITH YOU, MAKE THEM YOUR NEW BEST FRIENDS. they will understand what you’re going through better than anyone!!!

it’s going to SUCK at some point. royally. take a deep breath and keep pushing. you can do it.

if you feel good about your appearance, your day will seem a whole hell of a lot better than it is. try to always dress in a way that makes you feel good.

JUST! BECAUSE! YOURE! STRUGGLING! WITH! THE! LANGUAGE! DOESNT! MEAN! YOU! SUCK!! it’s not your first language!!! it’s tough!! but you’re trying your best and goddammit, as long as you can vaguely communicate what you need, that’s enough!

any progress is progress!!

GET AN INTERNATIONAL PHONE PLAN OR BUY A SIM CARD IN YOUR COUNTRY (WHICHEVER IS CHEAPEST) IMMEDIATELY. i was told i could get away with just using wifi!! i was lied to!! now i won’t have any way to navigate until after the Epiphany because i’m in FREAKING SPAIN and i’m NOT in a touristy city where they have lots of free wifi!!!

LEARN HOW TO READ A MAP. BUY A MAP. BUY ANOTHER. MAPS ARE YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND. you won’t always have google maps!! (see above)

BRING A COMFORT ITEM FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY. not bringing a teddy bear or something from home was the absolute stupidest thing i could’ve done!!

say “hi/good morning/good afternoon/good evening” and “thank you & have a nice day/night” to any TSA/customs/whoever agents you have to deal with!! maybe they’re nice or maybe they’re miserable and grumpy, i don’t care! they’re doing their job, stop throwing a hissy fit, get ur ass in that scanner, give them a smile and thank them, cheryl

take LOTS of pictures and videos. pick songs for voiceovers for vlogs/whatever’s and daydream plans for them! they’re a fun way to commemorate your trip and anyone with imovie can make them without too many problems. plus it gives you something to look forward to!!

be proud of yourself, always!! you’re doing great! you’re doing something that other people can’t do!! if you can’t be proud of yourself, know that i am!! you’re doing wonderful and i am so proud of you, thank you for bein’ you and doin’ your thang, look at you go and succeed!!
