It’s been astounding to watch the evolution of antisemitism in real time over these past three years. Being raised in a predominantly Jewish area in the diaspora, I never thought it’d affect me; that was a mistake on my part. It has pervaded so much of life, both online and offline. It’s disturbing how commonplace it’s become. And the fact that if people did a modicum of research and learned about the history and evolution of antisemitism, it could be lessened. Unfortunate that I don’t have faith in people to do that.

I grew up similarly shielded in a decently Jewish area in the diaspora. I first encountered the word “kike” in a book I had to read in middle school, where a Jewish character was mocked and told to pick up pennies. I was shocked and confused, it was so out of my field of experience— even just one generation separated from the murder of my family during the Holocaust.

It’s demoralizing how used to antisemitism I’ve become, how normalized it is online and in person. I’ve been called a kike, now, and seen it used a hundred times more. I’ve hidden all my Jewish clothing in the back of my closet and tried to hide my Jewish identity among people I don’t know. I wish I had the strength not to lie when the Uber driver asked me where my name is from.

It’s not new but it’s new to me in a way I didn’t realize when I was young.

it is NOT. There's a Website called wikibiases just for that. If you go to any topic that isn't European you'll find PLENTY of mistakes. Because Wikipedia is eurocentric! It is not better then textbooks (some textbooks at least)

Wikipedia is only “more reliable than most textbooks” if the textbooks are all extremely outdated lmfao. Even if there are good sources, the information written in the actual article CAN still be incorrect. I have also seen tweets, blog posts, and opinion pieces used as “sources” for important information which is ….. questionable at the very least.

It is a known fact that there are Wikipedia editors with biased motivations who have been rewriting articles mainly related to indigenous people and Jewish history to push a few specific narratives. Some of these articles have been locked with incorrect or biased information in them preventing people from correcting them.

The stuff on Wikipedia is also way more basic than what would be in a genuine respected textbook. Go to the library. Go on the internet archive. Read primary sources and find more than one source. Learn to discern bias or wording that frames things in certain ways. Humans are inherently opinionated and it’s important to avoid confirmation bias.

The lack of media literacy is a MAJOR problem right now and as terrible as AI is that doesn’t mean wiki sites are *good*. Please just use your brain. Some of this is sounding like “big textbook is lying to me” conspiracy brain stuff.
