Ludwig's Easter Egg Hunt 2014
I'm not a huge fan of valentine's day, I think if you've found your partner in life then you should be happy everyday, and that Valentine's Day inevitable makes Singles feel bad. So I'm promoting ValenSWINE's Day - Lou might be neutered and may never see another swine in his life, but he is loved and loving and that's what ValenSWINE is all about (well that and eating well)
Today is Ludwig's Second Birthday!
I hope everyone had a Happy Winter Holiday! Ludwig certainly enjoyed himself at our Christmas Celebrations.
NAP TIME!
Pigs are very social creatures. So whenever I take a nap during the day I find my 'Guard - Pig' at my feet when I awake. I've heard stories of Pigs that wake their owners at 8am for food and things like that. But just like dogs, pigs have a sense of rank. So its not only okay to express to your pig that certain actions like 'waking people up' are NOT acceptable. I'm top Pig and he knows it.
That being said we had a tough Summer Lou and I, because Pigs mature to true adult hood not upon reaching sexual maturity (which is super early in pigs like 4-6 months - but Ludwig's fixed) but upon loosing their milk teeth at around 1.5-2 years which is when they'll try to become 'top pig.'
But I stood my ground, and now that Ludwig is done teething he seems calmer, more rational and content, so I'm convinced this summer was the big challenge the pig books warned me about. So if you're pig is at that age and just being a jerk all of a sudden, hang in there, you're Hog just has sore gums and a teenaged sense of entitlement. It will pass, if you stand your ground on unacceptable behaviour.
Next to my own Pig Ludwig, 'Chris P Bacon' is my favourite Swine in the world. Chris is a Pig on Wheels, meaning he was born with a birth defect that kept his back legs from developing properly. But he was adopted by a Vet in the States who nursed him along from day one, and build him his first set of wheels. Together Chris and His Dad do ALOT for the Handicapped Community. They'll go to fairs and wheelchair rallies… anyways, if you love pigs, you HAVE to check out Chris P Bacon.
And here's Ludwig chilling in the studio just a few weeks ago (Oct 2013).
This is Ludwig this Spring (2013) happy to get a little exercise outdoors. He has grown just a tiny bit since but mostly the Summer was about him loosing his Milk Teeth and being a "Piggy Teenager", but I think we're through the worst of it now. He's done teething, and if he is still growing, then it has slowed to a snail's pace. So we tell him he's a mighty boar (even though he's technically a barrow.)
This is Ludwig in June of this year (2013) at about 115 lbs and almost a year and a half old.
This is Ludwig at 8 weeks! It's hard to believe now that he was once THIS tiny!
