October 27th 2015 |
Zedd came to Indy on October 27th, and it was the highest energy show I’ve been to besides Flux Pavilion. Alex Metric opened first and got the crowd dancing. His set wasn’t super impressive and it wasn’t my favorite opener. He got the crowds attention for probably about 10 minutes and then he was just background music as everyone got in their spots, got their drinks, and took their pictures.
Dillon Francis came on next and blew Alex Metric out of the water. His set included his hit single “Get Low,” along with a remix of the Backstreet Boys. He lit up the crowd and got everyone jumping. With spilt beer everywhere, lights and smoke filled the Indiana Coliseum.
Zedd came out with a bang. His stage set up was nothing but giant screens with trippy back flows, and him standing right smack-dad in the middle of it all. He played his hits, “Break Free,” “Clarity” and “Beautiful Now.” He also lit up the stage with his remix of “Alive” by Empire Of The Sun. I can’t describe the atmosphere of the crowd because it was nothing less than amazing. It was so wild, thrilling, and loud. Lakers beamed out from the stage in colors or blue, red, and green. Fire lit up the stage (and sometimes didn’t go out). It was so much fire you could feel the heat on your face in the crowd. Confetti sprayed from the ceilings during big bass drops during songs, along with insane smoke coming from all sides. When the show ended, I couldn’t hear the whole drive back home. It was definitely a night for the books.
November 12th 2015 |
Brothertiger opened for JR JR last night, November 12th 2015 in the Deluxe at the Old National Centre in Indianapolis. When talking to John (Brothertiger’s real name), he described his music genre as the “new new wave.” His set was great. The crowd was bobbing their heads, swaying with the beat, and enjoying their time. It was just him, his keyboards, tech instruments, and the lights. I see myself listening to him more and more when I’m just chilling, doing homework, or smoking with the guys.
JR JR opened with a spontaneous comedy act performed by their tour manager AJ, who discussed with me after the show that he normally doesn’t introduce the guys. They wanted him to do something funny before the show started and he just went with it. I also got to meet the dog on tour with them named Potato. He belongs to Josh, the saxophone player, guitarist, and singer of JRJR.
The band opened with “As Time Goes,” which got the crowd pumped for the show. With bubbles shooting out during sets, who couldn’t be happy to be in that venue? “Simple Girl” was high energy, just in time for them to play one of my favorite songs by them, “James Dean.” “Electrical Energy,” “Break My Fall,” “In The Middle,” and “Almost Lost Detroit” got the crowd, and myself pumped. I didn’t want the night to end. Everyone around me were just dancing, clapping, and enjoying themselves as much as they could. The show ended with “For My Brother” and the band walked off stage.
Of course, they weren’t done. The encore included “Gone” which was performed in black lights with the band in neon blazers. It was amazing. “Gone” was followed by “If You Didn’t See Me,” and Daniel jumped over the barricade to dance in the middle of the crowd. The show ended with a lovely performance of “Nothing But Our Love.”
Between the lights, the dancing, the bubbles, and the friendly crowd, JRJR had a fantastic show. Being able to hang out with them, their manager, and Brothertiger after the show was so much fun. I can’t wait to see them in two years when they come back after their European tour.

March 31st, 2015 |
On Tuesday, March 31st of 2015 the Egyptian Room filled with a crowd of people to see The Griswolds and Walk The Moon perform an amazing concert. Indianapolis, Indiana has been going through a rough time with the new RFRA laws that Mike Pence put into play, but that did not stop this show from happening. When you first pulled up to the show, the sign above “Walk The Moon 7:30,” the sign read “EVERYBODY IS WELCOME” to ensure that the RFRA had not been set in place for this show, in which all kinds of people attend and come together to celebrate great music and amazing experience. While waiting outside of the venue for hours in order to get a great standing spot in the standing room only venue, the band came off of their tour bus to take a group picture to post on their Instagram page (I’m in that picture!).
The show began with The Griswolds. The Griswolds come from Sydney, Australia. Although their bass player, Tim, was ill and did not get to perform, they still put on a rocking show. The crowd may not have known them as well, but they embraced them and were engaged. Honestly, they were probably one of my favorite opening bands for a show in a long time. They had such a good energy and were so positive, and loved the crowd so much.
Walk The Moon started their show with “Different Colors.” Nick, the lead singer, had bright red hair, and their drummer, Sean, had green hair. It made the show much more powerful because it was all about loving everyone even with the RFRA controversies going on. Nick wore a shirt that was black with the word “Think” in different colors on it, as well. The energy never stopped on the stage or in the venue. The lighting on the stage was amazing. I became obsessed. There were so many colors that it was hard to capture a picture with an iPhone camera. Nick made sure that the audience was enjoying themselves and loving each other. He made the old fans interact with the new fans. He made everyone do weird things with their hands to get all their negativity and sadness out of their system so that they could enjoy the show as much as possible. I would say that the highlights of this show would be when they performed, “Portugal,” “Shut Up and Dance,” and their encore song, “Anna Sun.” “Portugal” seemed to be a crowd favorite. It’s an older song, so the old fans were in love. “Shut Up and Dance” is there most popular song when it comes to new fans. It’s everywhere. It’s on the radio, it’s on commercials, it just has a lot of hype around it. “Anna Sun” was chanted by the crowd after the band ended their show. They then came out for an encore and closed the show with yellow bright lights, a happy crowd, and “Anna Sun.”
After the show was over, we stay to meet Walk The Moon (we missed meeting The Griswolds) and it was a fun, cold time. Overall, I would definitely rate this concert as an extremely high energized one. I can’t wait to see The Griswolds again, hopefully soon. I also can’t wait to see what Walk The Moon has in store next for us, the fans.

Hoodie Allen
Hoodie Allen performed in the Egyptian Room in Indianapolis on November 25th, 2014. MAX (Max Schneider, a YouTube sensation, and played the leading role of Nickelodeon’s original movie Rags) was the opening act for the night. He got the crowd so pumped up. I honestly had no idea he was going to be there and I freaked out. Chiddy Bang was the second act of the evening and he got people so hyped that I thought the building was going to fall down. I don’t remember a lot of this show, to be honest. It was an extremely long show that went on and on for ages. I attended the show with my boyfriend, and ran into his ex girlfriend and her sister. It was a fun night, and definitely one to remember, but the opening acts weren’t really why I was there, so I was not as into them as I could have been.
Hoodie Allen knows how to put on a show. He allowed a kid to get on stage to rap with him. He took someone from the audience’s Paul George basketball jersey and wore it, then signed it and gave it back. He threw cake into the audience when he performed his song “Cake Boy.” He crowd surfed in a blown up boat and it was phenomenal. The show had so much action that it never had a dull moment. MAX and Hoodie performed a song called, “Won’t Mind” in which the crowd had to slide left and right to dance to it. At the end of the show, Hoodie’s crew made a jump rope out of the bras that girls threw onto the stage, and then Hoodie jumped rope with them. It was insane. Confetti was everywhere. Cake was all over the ground. Water was on the ground. It was so messy. Hoodie even left the stage and came back out for an extremely long encore, where his DJ literally just played remixes of songs and there were strobe lights and everyone jumping. It was so amazing, honestly. It was like the Egyptian Room went from being a chill, cool, crowded place, to a messy, hot concert, and then into a night club. I wish I could write more about it, but it was just so fun that I can’t even explain it. It was an experience like no other and I am so excited to see Hoodie in the future.

Echosmith
The Deluxe room at the Old National Centre filled with a crowd of an enchanting group of people on March 11th, 2015. The crowd, however, was not as dedicated as I had expected when first arriving at the venue. We got there about two hours before the doors opened and were the 20th people in line. Luckily for us, the first 20 people in line got a surprise meet-and-greet with the band! There was also an extremely awesome cardboard cut out of the band in front of the doors, in which fans could take a picture with, tweet or Instagram it, and then win it at the end of the night!
Meeting the band was absolutely incredible. We stood in a line and went through to have the band sign something. (They signed my ticket because I didn’t want to carry around a poster all night). Sydney Sierota, the lead singer of Echosmith, complimented my boyfriend and I. She called us cute, and said she had seen us holding hands earlier in the day while standing in line outside the venue. (EEEEEK!) Since we were already inside, we got to go ahead into the venue space. We were second row, center stage. It was amazing.
The opening act were a band called The Colourist. They are a band from Los Angeles, California. They lead singer rocked a flamingo jacket, and sang very humbly. He just looked in awe at the crowed for most of their performance. The bassist, Tall Dark and Handsome, stage presence was so amusing and goofy that I sometimes forgot to listen to the music and just started at his facial expressions. The lead guitarist was dressed in all white, and kind of faded in and out from the front of the stage to the back. The drummer, a petite, beautiful young woman who was also a singer, was the one to steal their set though. She was stunningly talented while she played the drums, and sang the tunes in a flawless melody. They were probably one of my favorite opening act bands I’ve ever got the chance to see play.
Echosmith, the band we were all their anxiously waiting to see, did not come to disappoint. Between bright lights spelling out the band name, a spinning umbrella being twirled during songs, and an old microphone sang into for aesthetic and to set the mood, the band was phenomenal. The band was adorably awkward, down to earth, and made it so obvious they were thankful to be on the stage in front of us. I definitely think the three highlight songs of the evening were between their romantic slow song “Tell Her You Love Her,” their newest single “Bright,” and their most popular song, “Cool Kids.” The performance for “Bright” was illuminating. It was just such a fun song to sing along to. It was literally, for use a pun, such a glowing song. Although “Tell Her You Love Her” is a slow song, the mood was perfect for couples (such as myself and my boyfriend) to hold hands, sway together and sing softly. It was so nice to feel the love in the air. “Cool Kids” was their last song before their encore. Since it’s the most popular song, everyone went crazy. The band actually went off stage, having the crowd still singing the song even though they were no longer there. Of course there was an encore. The encore song was, “Nothing’s Wrong.” And lets just say, it was such a fun ending to a show. Giant blow up balloons floated through crowd with confetti waiting inside of them, waiting to be popped and fly everywhere. It was so cool and magical.
Unfortunately, the show ended quickly and the crowd left in a bit of a rush. Too bad for them because we got to meet the band, AGAIN, after the show. Sydney complimented my relationship, again, and was just too adorable. We even made the group picture of the line outside the venue that she posted on Echosmith’s Instagram page. It was a phenomenal concert. Echosmith is a band that is so thankful for what they have, they truly love their fans, and have amazing stage presence. If you haven’t seen them, and you like their music, I would STRONGLY recommend doing so soon!
June 24th, 2014
Arctic Monkeys took the stage at the White River State Park in June of 2014, with their opening act White Denim. It was a tornado warning, muddy, rainy day in Indianapolis when the outdoor lawn concert took place. My friends stood in line for hours in order to get good standing places in the crowd. The pit wasn't too packed during the opening act, and the crowd was really separated. People were more focused on their own space and cliques, than their placement towards the stage. This crowd was extremely friendly. People pushed and shoved their way to the front, as usual, but nothing screamed "I'M A GIANT JERK" at me for a crowd as a whole.
Although White Denim were fairly decent, they only captured the audiences attention when the guitarist did a really cool solo, and during one really hype song because the crowd was just getting too antsy. They weren't bad by any means, but they weren't the reason we were all there. They did their job of warming up the crowd, but nothing stuck out with them to make me want to remember their setlist. I wasn't fawning over them, and neither were the people from the third row and back. Besides the obvious smell of weed (that was a reoccurring theme throughout the entire show). nothing stood out about White Denim. They tried too hard to get the already hyped crowd energized, and had a show off vibe to them.
Arctic Monkeys, however, blew the stage away. Lead singer, Alex Turner, didn't have to dance around the stage or be dramatic to impress anyone. His amazing vocal range in their opening song "Do I Wanna Know" grabbed everyone's attention from the beginning. Between the crowd enthusiastically screaming the lyrics to "Fluorescent Adolescent," to the crowd smoking obsessive during "Why'd You Only Call Me When..." and to the romantic couples holding hands and swaying during "I Wanna Be Yours," the show was phenomenal. The strategic lights that were colorful, lit on beats, and set the mood for the stage, were the perfect touch to such a great show. It may have been a hot and steamy show because of the weather and smoking, but it was definitely one for the books. It got me to love Arctic Monkeys even more than before.
