a lot of the tragedy of dick and jason’s relationship comes from dicks failure to be there for jason and that he let his feud with bruce get in the way of being able to build a relationship with jason. i don’t know why so many people are always so insistent that they were actually really close and we were just meant to infer they were calling and hanging out off-screen. sure there are a few comics where they’re seen hanging out but those are far and few between. dick still obviously really cared about jason as both a family member and his successor and was distraught when he died, but their relationship was not close. maybe it could have gotten better if they’d had more time together but they probably didn’t think there would be a time limit.

literally the EXACT comic they met he puts everything aside and takes Jason out to hang out. the comic literally ends with Bruce watching them get along and thanking Dick.

oh idk maybe bc thats the truth??? like sure they didnt get to meet a lot but that wasnt bc dick and bruce had some feud between them??? it was bc Dick was busy leading the Titans.

Jason and Dick's relationship is similar to how a younger sib's relationship is when their older sib is at idk, college or moved out. they're still close but they just dont have much time together bc they dont live in the same house. (they also have a 7-8 yr age gap as well)

but despite that, Dick and Jason were still close with Dick taking Jason out for patrol whenever he got the chance

and he has canonically taken Jason out for a vacation to the mountains, by the looks of it, without Bruce. so Dick purposefully took time out of his busy life to hang out with his younger sib

and he also gave Jason his phone number so they probably kept in touch over the phone as well

and with how casually jason chatted with Dick despite him just randomly barging in, its inferred that they were close

ofc were they as close as, say dick and tim?? No. ofc not.

During Tim's time, Dick left the titans and moved to Bludhaven which is literally a city away from Gotham. He was a lot more closer in distance and didnt have an entire team to lead which is why they were closer.

But even tho Dick was leading the titans and him being off-world many times, he and jason were still close. ofc they didnt have much time together since Jason was Robin for only three years, but that doesnt make their relationship any less close

theres a reason why Jason's death hurt Dick sm.

and if they weren't close, as there was then him literally hallucinating Jason makes no sense.

so while yes, there aren't that many on-screen scenes with him and Jason bonding, when it comes to Jason, specifically Post-Crisis Jaybin, you have to remember he had only one year before he was killed. We didn't have much time with jaybin before DiTF took place.

But despite the fact that irl he was here for a year, in canon it was three years and for jason we need to infer a LOT of stuff happened off-screen. (still pissed that post-crisis jaybin's adoption was off-screen skdjfds like seriously??😭😭)

TL;DR:

Jason and Dick were close and had a good relationship with one another. Despite Dick being busy with the Titans its clear that he took time out of his life to hang out and both him and Jason were really close.

okay, so. hold my hand while I say this idea, you holding? okay, I'm swinging our arms. Dick is very talkative, he chats a lot. we love him for it. Spyral has inserted the hypno chips in their agents brains

Dick was probably told to shut up a lottt while in Spyral, not just by Tiger. Spyral has experience with very complicated surgeries. so, what if Spyral just. removed Dick's ability to speak. in the, of course, probably very inaccurate medical way. but think about it!!!

and think about how angsty it would be for Dick when he returns to Gotham and his family and can't talk? like. and also just angsty for Dick because he can't speak his languages anymore, he doesn't have vocal chords. plus the scars it would leave? even surgeons that actually care about the patient are going to leave scars, that is just what will happen. so Dick being under the care of Spyral doctors, oh, scarring big time.

imagine how the confrontation between Jason and Tim and Dick would go. would Jason still punch him? or would it kick off the classic "this was never Dick's idea, Bruce beat him into it" thing? because everyone knows Dick loves to talk, we love him for it. so, would that ring alarms for Jason and Tim? or would this still go the way of canon?

I don't know, fun to think about though!!!

I love the slightly toxic / massively codependent relationship between Bruce and Dick no matter canon or fanon because you’re telling me Dick cut ties, created his own hero persona, led half the teams in the JL at one point, walked around telling everyone he didn’t need Batman anymore, but then if Bruce died on a mission they’d need the entire Justice League to haul him away from Bruce’s body; and even if they could, he’d fight them the entire way, screaming and spitting and inconsolable to the point of madness…that Dick Grayson. and the Bruce who literally lost his mind and gave into war when Dick died in Injustice…who carries his dead son’s body in so many comics like he’s cradling a child…who split his knuckles down to the bone and kept going until Selina had to beg him to stop…

yeah, they’re totally normal about each other.
