A few different configurations of the 12'x20' miners cabin.
New 12'x20' Tiny Cabin
While scroll through Tumblr the other day, I saw a floor plan for a renovated miners cabin. I went and made my own alterations and ideas for this cabin. My first thought was to keep it as passive and off grid as possible, updating old with modern tech. Second was to keep the period look, so custom/retrofitted everything. Let's take a look!
So here you see a mostly open floor plan with exception for a pantry and bathroom. A tiny nook in the back for your bed, which will hinge up for storage underneath. The bathroom itself is a wet bath, so the entire enclosure is water tight and serves as a shower. The software I'm using has no image for a woodstove, which will be located where you see the fireplace. The pantry will consist of a cabinet for dry storage and an old style ice chest, retrofitted with modern passive cooling tech. Finally a dresser in the living room, hey it's had to go somewhere.
So for passive temperature regulation I envisioned using an earth tube and solar chimney. How this works is an air intake tube is buried at a depth where the temperature is constant year round. Air enters the tube and a heat exchange takes place before exiting inside the house. To keep the flow passive and going, the house is fitted with a solar chimney. The sun warms the air in the chimney and simple physics takes over. The rising heat exits the house causing cooler air to be pulled in from the earth tube. See diagram below.
For the pantry I want a separate earth tube at a much lower, cooler depth. 50° - 40° ideally. This tube will be key to keeping the ice chest cool enough for perishable goods.
For the cooler months and for cooking, I'm picturing old school wood fire oven and stove. Antique if I could get one. Cooking, heating and fitted with a water block, will provide the house with hot water. While not suitable for the warmer months, an outdoor kitchen will be required. With that thought, a solar water heater will also need to be rigged up as well.
For the final touches, no off grid house would be complete without some form of power. Solar panels and battery system will cover lights, water pump, t.v .and a laptop/tablet/phone. Large farm sink in the kitchen can help do laundry, by hand, in the colder months. If the world ever suffers a stone age reset, this house could keep you living comfortably.
As for one final optional configuration, you could add a loft space for an office or more sleeping space for families. With a retractable attic ladder access, here's one possible layout for a loft.

It's been awhile since my last creation post. This is a similar design to my last with use of shipping containers. 2x 8x20's and 2x 8x10's. I invisioned this as a Beach House, but would easily work anywhere, vacation or full time. Sleeps 6-8 with convertible sofa. Solar roof should provide all power needed in appropriate environment. My personal preference is a pool, BBQ and outdoor entertainment area to the side for outdoor living. Anyway, like, comment and share!
Beautiful Home Design. I’d love to have a more modern version of this. A semi subterranean tiny house.
Cinephiles Wanted! Neighbors, not so much...
Want a Tiny House with room to stretch? One that opens up and blends indoor and outdoor living? But the movie lover in you also begs for a home theater! How about cheap, ready to go and recycled building materials? I’m talking 4x 8x20 foot shipping containers brought together with garage door wall, outdoor patio with 10x18 foot pool and further out, the piece de resistance, a 16:10 300″ movie screen!!! Cozy on up in a wide sectional, party on the patio or float in a pool chair and watch all your favorite movies!
Product of a late night double feature on my own 100″ home theater xD

Tiny Shipping Container Cottage
New Tiny House design utilizing 2x 10′ shipping containers and 1x 20′. This cottage style tiny house can sleep 4(sofa bed/bunk bed sofa), perfect for a vacation home or a cozy life style. Full bath with stack-able laundry. Full kitchen with Double Oven Electric Induction Convection Range , 10.2 Cu. Ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator. Bedroom features full queen bed and closet, plus under bed storage options.
I’m picturing this with a flat “green roof”, which can absorb and filter rain water before its stored. And to give it some character, the water heater will be a recycled steel drum turned mini roof top water tower, which gets warmed by the sun and gravity fed to the house.

An alternative to having to pay for expensive wells on remote properties. Https://www.waterseer.org/ Capable of producing up to 37 Liters of clean water a day, a fleet of these can provide for remote villages with no access to safe clean water.
Been awhile since I posted a new plan. A new take on a Japanese Tiny House. The main living area consists of the kitchen and elevated tatami mat multipurpose area. The laundry room will double as a coat closest with swivel coat rack and hangers that’ll push aside when access to the laundry is needed. The bathroom has large vanity and sink, toilet and Japanese soaking tub. Added is a small shower area meant for cleaning and rinsing before soaking in the tub. This allows for saving on water, like rinsing before entering a hot-tub/pool.
Back in the main room a Japanese Tansu Chest acts as stairs to the bedroom loft. Room for a king size bed and some low profile dressers and end tables. Outside a set of stairs leads to a deck above the bath and laundry area provides outdoor living with a view. Bedroom loft covered with a sloped roof provides area for solar power and rain water collection.
As always, Enjoy and Share :)
A Zack Giffin original, coffee table workstation. I want one!!! From last nights TinyHouseNation.
Hello Followers, it’s been awhile. Here my latest MyTinyHousePlans, a 22x12 265 sq-ft tiny house. Optional expansion for loft over the bath, kitchen and dressing room.
With multipurpose in mind, the living room sofa converts too a bed. The powder/dressing room is a roomy place to get ready for the day, plus do the laundry. Separate bath allows for one person to groom/dress while another showers. When the laundry is done, it’s a quick trip to the closets.
Now to the kitchen. I’m thinking one mini fridge, one mini freezer. Limited food storage space gives me an old school idea for a root cellar under the house which doubles as access to plumbing. For the stove, a dual induction cook-top. This allows for off-grid self-reliance from gas. A small over-the-stove convection microwave doubles for baking.
Orient front towards the south for passive heating and solar collection. Decking around the house to extend your living space to the outdoors. Rain water collection and septic(check out solar septic) for water and sewage independence.

Season 3 premiers tonight! A tiny house fit for a “TALL” basketball player, you know that’s gonna be epic.
This here is a cozy tiny house cabin w/ loft space. Tiny, but with room to stretch if you’re the claustrophobic type. Big bath, big kitchen/living area with room to entertain guests. Fireplace for that perfect cabin in the woods atmosphere.
Two apartment concepts I did awhile ago. I favor the one on the left personally. Essentially everything you need in a home in 365 sq ft. As always, share and enjoy.

I’d love something as magical as this. In my opinion it has a sort of Studio Ghibli feel to it.
Above is whats called a Dogtrot Community Dwelling. A Dogtrot is two or more parts of a home connected by a “breeze way”.
This design is another one I did months ago. The idea behind these two tiny houses, connected via the breeze way/porch is to live in a social environment.
Imagine a bunch of these spread out on a plot of land, roofs oriented towards the rising/setting sun(solar powered), with large community vegetable garden in the center. Maybe throw in a community clubhouse where everyone can gather for shared meals, watching TV, pool(billiards), maybe a swimming pool/gym. Bringing back the renaissance village lifestyle where the entire community comes together for the survival of the village, a self-sustaining community. Something I feel has become lost and obscured in today's modern world, with the exceptions of Amish/Amish like communities.
Then at the end of the day, return to your own private living quarters with futon sofa, bath and mini kitchen/dining room. Your breeze way porch allows for sitting outside to enjoy the weather and scenery or even a nice chat with your neighbors.
A great experiment for a college campus maybe....... ;)
Please enjoy and share!
