In Response To The Racism On Our Blog
As of late, we’ve been receiving rather negative feedback on some of the art we produce. Generally, whenever this occurs we block it immediately as this has happened before. Yet there was a bit more than usual, so we all feel it’s best to formally address the situation. Here are screenshots with the people in question, but please note we ARE blocking out their names to avoid any possible harassment towards them. We are here as a blog just to provide art for the BNHA fandom’s LGBT+ community, we aren’t looking for any trouble:
As you can see, it’s less than pleasant. While the majority of the mods are white, there are also mods that aren’t (myself and Mod Kirishima). From our perspective, this is how we view it:
We enjoy seeing darker skinned characters. Due to it being a closed off country for pretty much centuries, Japan isn’t as diverse. But as we move further into the 21st century, mixed people are becoming more and more common. This is a series we all enjoy, and yes it’s expected to see every character in anime be light skinned. But not all Japanese people are, and as stated mixed people are slowly and gradually becoming more common. While it still has yet to be shown more in the anime industry, it’s becoming more prominent in reality itself.
Hell, if that’s not proof enough take the wikipedia article. It lists off notable biracial people in Japan, and to add it shows types of possible mixed races
Like everywhere else in the world, it’s not fully accepted. Having darker skin color can be seen as shameful, moreso when you’re mixed. An article from 2015 about Ariana Miyamoto, a half black half Japanese woman, can explain it better than I can. (TW: suicide mentions and racism).
As that article states, while it’s not common,
Hafu account for a small portion of Japan’s population. According to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, approximately 36,000 children with a non-Japanese parent are born every year in the country, accounting for about 3 percent of births.
with the rise of interracial marriages these numbers are beginning to climb and more mixed races people are coming up.
We here at My Trans Hero Academia are all for sexuality and gender diversity, so of course we’re going to want to see racial diversity as well. As a POC myself, seeing people with the same skin tones and such as me make me happy. It’s something I enjoy and will honestly continue to produce so people like me can enjoy it as well.
So, all in all to the people who disapprove of the skin tones we use for our art?
We will continue to block people who prove to be racist in regards to our art, and if you aren’t comfortable with how we express ourselves on this blog I suggest unfollowing.
