In February, my school called home about a shooting threat they deemed uncredible. I had a panic attack in my driveway about even going to school because I didn’t know if something would happen. I didn’t know if I would live to see fifteen.
My school received a bomb threat yesterday. The high school cancelled and many kids, including my sister, didn’t go even when their building had class. Yesterday was also my birthday.
I walked out of my biology class today after grading a daily quiz. All of us who were planning to leave kept looking to one another to see who’d go first. We’re only fourteen/fifteen so we’re afraid of getting in trouble.
There were so many people in our cafeteria, more than at any lunch. I sat on the floor in front of my friend who had a hand on my shoulder or holding mine the whole time because I was an anxious mess.
~7,000 students since sandy hook. That is everyone in my school district. Not just my high school. That would be everyone I know, everyone my sister knows, and thousands more. I heard so many people speak up. So many speak out. I was afraid I wouldn’t come home to my cat or my sister or my mom.
This is just one step in the right direction, or as my mom says, one drop in the bucket. To everyone who is calling, emailing, walking out, protesting… thank you.

This should’ve been fixed, but it clearly isn’t.
We’re going to have to fix it ourselves I guess.
