Grouping Contests: Using Organizations and Events to Organize your MyVote contests

Every contest on MyVote has a default URL which you share with your participants. This is a good option to use if you only have one contest, but what if you have multiple contests to share? Sending multiple links would be cumbersome for you and your participants. In this scenario you can create an event URL and associate individual contests with that event. Event URLs have an additional area that allow your participants to navigate between associated contests.

Let’s look at an example of a film festival that has three separate contests:

You can take this a step further and use your organization URL to group multiple events in the same URL.

Consider the Film Festival example above. Let’s assume they run this film festival every year. If you share the organization URL participants can navigate between previous years events:

How can I test a contest before publishing?

When you sign-up for a MyVote account you automatically receive 5 free tokens that you can use for testing. These free tokens allow you to configure and publish a contest so you can test the configuration, setup and collection of votes. Once you’re happy with the results you can make a copy of your test contest and apply a premium token for your real contest.

There are some important limitations of the Free test tokens you should keep in mind: + The maximum number of voters is 10 + The maximum voting window of 14 days + Data is stored for1 month + There is a maximum of 20 Contenders + There is a maximum of 3 categories + There is a maximum of 10 Poll questions

FAQ:

I created a test contest but MyVote won’t allow me to use my free token? Have a look at your contest configuration, you have likely chosen options that exceed the limitation of the free tokens listed above. Adjust the settings as needed in order to use the free token. Once you are happy with your testing, make a copy of the contest and add the premium features you require with a premium token.

How do I create a copy of my contest/poll? Login to MyVote Manager and edit the contest that you wish to copy. On the left side navigation panel select “Copy” which is located near the bottom of the screen. A copy will be made of the current contest. Scroll up and select “Details” from the left side navigation and you will see you are now editing the new copy of the contest. The Contest Title will be the original contest title followed by (Copy). You can change the name and update any configuration options required.

Use when:

You want to evaluate items relative to each other

You need to calculate a ranked list of items across multiple categories based on the weighted average rankings for each category

Don’t use when:

You want your participants to be able to assign items the same score. In a ranking contest, all items must be ranked relative to all other items (no ties)

You have a large number of items or categories that you want your participants to rank. Consider using a rating contest instead. It is less time consuming for your participants to rate a large number of items vs. ranking them.
