Nairobi Mission 2018

As a group of students from Pretoria, South Africa, we believe that God has called every believer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to go to the nations, spreading this good news. Faithfully serving our community and country, we heard the call of God to go and serve one of our Every Nation Churches in Nairobi, Kenya. This is our journey. Kissing Giraffe?!?! The beautiful country of Kenya not only has amazing people but also treasures such as the Giraffe Park, The Elephant sanctuary and The Masaai Market! We spent the day with our new spiritual family exploring these treasures and also saying goodbye for now. The Giraffe Park was a real treat and some of the members had the opportunity to kiss the giraffes! We also met baby elephants and saw how they were fed, that was really a special thing to witness. The Masaai Market brought some authentic Kenyan items to the table an the home team helped all of us to bargain! Which turned out to be quite a fun experience. After our eventful day we greeted our leaders with thankful hearts. A few tears were shed and our team will be forever greatful for their input in our lives! We packed our bags and left for our final destination - The Main House. It is a lovely farm house and we were welcomed with warmth and a warm supper! The perfect ending to a perfect day! Debrief was good. God reminded us of all that He had done on this mission and we had a lot of fun! We are now heading home, flying over two days, looking farward to stepping on home ground. South Africa, here we come!

LAST DAY ON CAMPUS!

As it was our last day on campus we thought it would not be complete without riding like the locals do it. We first took a bus or as some locals call it a Nyanga. Following the bus, we took a tuk tuk, with no less than 7 people riding in one! Our final ride was a motato or taxi as we as South Africans know it. What an experience!! Our final follow ups turned out great and we can walk away just in awe of how faithful God has been! Our goodbyes to the Kenya team was a bitter sweet one. We will miss them terribly, but they promised to come to South Africa to visit us soon. We prepared traditional South African dishes for the home team like oven baked chicken, potato salad, butternut made like sweet pumpkin and even milktart for desert! Afterward we as a team washed the hosts feet. This was one of the most precious moments of our trip, the tears in everyone’s eyes was proof of this! As we look back at our time on campus we can not but praise God for His provision and divine intervention! Ps 150:2 - Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!

CAMPING TRIP! The past weekend our team went on a camping trip just outside of Nairobi. On arrival, Friday afternoon, we prayer walked around the camp site, trusting in the Lords plans for the camp... We met the Nairobi team and students later the afternoon and settled into our separate tents. We had our first session the evening hosted by Pastor St Francis. He spoke about discipleship and how we effectively can change our communities and campus. On Saturday we continued the teachings that equiped us on how to be effective disciples. The different sessions spoke about extravagant prayer, abundant sowing, the person of peace and discovery groups. Througout the day we had fellowship with each other, playing games like touch rugby, 30 seconds, soccer and protecting our belongings from the baboons and monkeys. Dewald gave a teaching on why we need to go to the nations and what our motivation should be to reach out to the lost. Isaiah 6 and 40, as well as the parable of the pearl, gave the backbone to encouraging us to get to know the glorious God we serve. We ended the evening with worship and prayer for one another and had our last bonfire together. The entire day was just a testimony of how God is an intentional God and that He had personal appointments with every person on the camp! Sunday morning Johan lead the session and spoke about a radical life for Christ. Being radical with our faith and what we believe in and that we as a church ( the body of Christ ) are called to be radical together! One of our cars broke down, which meant that 7 of us needed to take taxis back home. After a long afternoon, everyone had a great shower, supper and coffee. We are excited for our follow ups this week and looking forward to see what God has in store for us for the rest of the mission.

Day 13- Two teams uniting as one The Nairobi and Hatfield team came together this morning for group devotions which Sharon led on God's love. Before we went to our different campuses we covered the team leaders with prayer. The Nairobi team joined us for the engagements on campus for follow up meetings. At the debrief tonight a Nairobi team member shared his testimony about sharing the Gospel for the first time out of his comfort zone. While at the baber he thought about the team engaging on campus and asked the question - why not just share the Gospel now? He bowed his head and prayed to God for courage to share the Good news, almost loosing an eyebrow and just started the conversation. The engagement went up to the point where he and the barber shared testimonies about how Good God is! We ended the day as we started it - together! We pared up in mixed groups and could just share in the love and unity we have in Christ! Tomorrow is our Nation Fast day where we will pray for the lost in all nations - pray with us and wait to see what God is going to do!

These past few days have been an INCREDIBLE journey of seeing God move on campus.

We all hold testimonies of engaging students, recieving word of knowledge and wisdom while speaking into peoples lives, trusting God to minister through us and experience the blessing of seeing Him change a persons life!

We had people who accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour… We had baptizms in the Holy Spirit… We have seen God heal people. We saw Gods favour upon this mission when doors would open up for us on both KU and JKUAT campusses. Follow- ups for almost every person engaged happened and we could link them with people from church who will help them grow in their faith. We could equip and empower the local team in evangelizm skills and personally learned a lot from serving the Kenya team as well.

What happened in the street we live in, is a testimony on its own... Children from the community started to flood in from everywhere as they were curious to the Mazungus (white people), who live in their street... we played soccer with them, danced to some music, shared the gospel in fun ways and they had the privilage of playing with the girls hair...

Elza, Gideon and Sharon had the previliage of teaching on Abundant sowing. They did a great job and the Holy Spirit moved and imparted truth into the South African and the Kenya teams!

DAY 9- As our feet hit the ground... Some great testimonies from today... We had awesome time with children from the community around the church. We prayed with them, played games and also shared the gospel. Our hearts were touched by these moments with the children! As a team, we went prayer walking through the community. Powerfull prophetic word, spiritual warfare and amazing revelations of how God has been moving and what His plans were for the community arised... Together with some of the church members, we could claim the ground we walked on in Christ and pray into what God is preparing for us throughout the week. Scriptures from Ezekial 37 were prayed into from the various prayer teams. The Holy spirit showed us that God has been stirring a big pot of magnificent food and as He is stirring, the aroma, which has never before been smelled, arises. Theres a fresh wind blowing into these communities and God is moving in ways we do not see yet. The people are very open to the gospel. The race we are running, has been run by believers coming before us. They handed over the baton to the Every Nation Campus Ministry Team in Kenya and we can come alongside them and serve them for the rest of the week. We prayed for a lady who was cripple. She experienced the Holy Spirit and the love of Christ in excess. She could move her leg a lot more, but please keep on praying for her. Another guy recommited his life to Christ, got baptized in the Holy Spirit and the song, Our God is Greater, was tought to Him. The Holy Spirit moved miriaculously in their lives. We ended the day at church, meeting all the people from our NAIROBI family and having a part in a panel discussion about dating. The church is in a relationship series: Waiting. Dating. Mating. This truly was a good day!

DAY 6-8 : NAIROBI TEAM MEETS THE TAZARA The train had a lot of interesting facets like the toilet in the ground, a lot of different people from all over the globe ( Portigal, USA, Mexico, Cech Republic, Zambia and Tanzania) and the best rice you’ve ever tasted! On the train we engaged with a variety of people, we watched the beautiful sunsets and sunrises and practiced our mafia skills (a game our Every Nation family enjoys to play). We also spend a lot of time in the Word and were so blessed to have a new friend, who we met on the train join us! Her name is Victoria, born in Zambia, she blessed us with testimonies and by shining the light of Chirst from deep within. We as a group shared our testimonies of how we got saved and trough that we created a platform for her to also open up and walk us about her life! She touched us deeply and that, for us, was just a testimony of God’s devine intervention, bringing different people together!! Our train broke down and in return we got a few extra hours... 11 hours to be precise.... oh boy, God used every extra minute we had on the train. In the last hours, our entire compartment was filled with people, some of them receiving Bibles and wanting prayer and some just kids singing and dancing with our team! Tanzanian people are famous for their hospitality and this proved to be true at JJ and JE Family House. They extended their hospitality, by waking up at 3:00 preparing, so we could be at the airport on time. After the breakfast We arrived in Nairobi, excited for what God has in store. We quickly realised that this country has no road rules and no road rage... Driving in Nairobi is an experience you can not try to explain in words. Staying in a traditional Kenyan home, we immediately knew that God has blessed this Nation with some of the friendliest people in the world. They are open to the Gospel, open to conversations, peacefull and very interested in what we are here for. We had a “lekker braai” (making us miss home a little), with the Kenyan church team, having fun, meeting new people, who became friends almost immediately and enjoying the stories and testimonies of the church and its people. Almost everything we as a team prayed beforehand, got prophesies about and spoke on, was confirmed from the Kenyan team. This made us stand in awe of how God moves in unity!

Day 5- Catching a train... Today was a good day. Early morning we took a bus from Lusaka to Kapiri Mposhi to catch the Tazara train. This train will take us from Kapiri Mposhi to Dar Es Salaam , Tanzania. The only problem is, if we miss this train, we are stranded in Kapiri for a week. God came through for us, we got to Kapiri on time and with lots of time to spare, we hit the streets, engaging the community. Some awesome testimonies of God opening up peoples hearts through words of knowledge and the prophetic was added to our list of God faithfulness! Praying for people in town, blessing them and seeing the Holy Spirit touch peoples lives in the way He did, made us very excited to see how much more God is going to move in Kenya. On the train, we quickly realised that space is a big problem. We had two 6 bed- rooms, where the beds are stacked into a 2m x 3m space, a small table and a light. The train started to move and all of us sat in a small lounce area, excited for the next part of the journey ahead. For deviotional and worship, we squeezed 10 people into one room. Bonding got a new definition. There wasnt any space left for personal space... As a team, we are ready to step up in unity and spread the Gospel of Jesus, wherever He leads us. The journey by train takes 3 days... What God is doing and will do on this train, is yet to be revealed...

Day 4 - the LONG road to Lusaka “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We arrived at the Zambian border post and saw a big purple bus with the words Shalom on it. This reminded us of God’s peace. We walked with our backpacks over the bridge connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia. We could not help but to stop and we all just stood in awe of the picture in front of us. At that moment God showed us a piece of His splendor with the sunrise over the mighty Victoria Falls!!! We could all sense presence as the falls’ mist covered the sun. After that we were picked up by a bold man of God, named Shakos - we hope you will meet him if you ever come to Zambia. Shakos dropped us off at the bus rank in Livingstone. There we tasted some of the local cuisine named Makwenjas. Zambia’s beautiful local markets intrigued us almost as much as the people. We were blessed to meet Esther and Oscar, local shop owners. We had the priviledge of praying for them and their shop and just experiencing their authentic love for their country and Jesus. On the bus we met a missionary, all the way from Indonesia. It is amazing to see how God works though different people in all the nations! After 8 hours we arrived in Lusaka, taking another taxi to our backpackers where we met up with Janan and Elza, who finaly joined the group, flying in from SA, after their test. All of us ate at a place called Hungry Lion. We met a guy named Abraham who spoke to us about the gospel, blessing us by taking us home in his car and then praying with us for the rest of the mission. Day 2 & 3 - CROSSING BORDERS On to our first country - Botswana! We crossed the border, through (yes, through, not over) the Limpopo river. We drove for almost 11 hours and on the road we saw the beautiful wild life this country has to offer. One of our team members engaged a guy named Derek. This great story of God using us when we least expect it, was added to our list of testimonies! We could pray for him and his mother and that God could use him within his community. We ended the long drive at a pan near Pandamatenga, not only sharing this space with a elephant, but with friends, who are family. A midnight Boabab- climbing expedition, ended in a great team building excercise! Early on the morning of the 3rd day, we drove to Kasane. We were blessed with a boat ride on the chobe river, getting close and personal with crocodiles, hippos, buffalos, fish eagles and many more other wonderful African fauna! Crossing the Botswanna-Zimbabwe border, we made our way to Victoria Falls. A HIGH LIGHT FOR MANY ON THE GROUP. When looking upon galons of water, thundering down over cliffs as beautiful as those we feasted our eyes on, you know that the God we serve is allmighty and powerful! We spent the day in Vic Falls, two of the team members daring to do the bridge swing. Dewald, Helgard, Elizma and Marguerite even got chased by an elephant, while walking through the bush. This ended in lots of nervous laughter and prayers of thanksgiving when they settled down and realized how God protected them in this moment. We also went into town and engaged the community. We prayed for a man to get healed from TB. God healed him. We prayed for a cripple to walk right. God grew and twisted his leg into position and now this man walks withou pain and any trouble. We gave out Bibles to people and prayed with them, blessing them in the Name of Jesus Christ. We are so thankful to be able to see God move the way He does.

WHAT A BLESSED START!! What a privilege we had this morning to have our Every Nation family pray and send us on our way with words of encouragement. As we prayed we saw a leaf in a shape of Africa and the Holy Spirit reminded me of this: “I have gone out before you.” - 1 Chron 14:15. What a conformation that we are not alone! We arrived at Tranquil Nest and was greeted with such warmth and hospitality! A breath taking place with a lot of history and a Boabab Tree with a testimony! Next stop Pandamatenga, Botswana!

MISSIONS SEND OFF... YELLOW FEVER INJECTIONS... FLIGHT TICKETS BOOKED... What a journey it has been so far! As a team we are moving in unity, preparing ourselves for what God is sending us to do! 🙌🏽... Our Every Nation Hatfield family prayed for us and blessed us with some prophetic word this Sunday with both the Kenya and Nairobi mission send off... We are extremely excited and expectant to what God is sending us to do in these Nations. Please keep us in your prayers and watch as this journey of faith unfolds!

Our Tshwane churches came together for a city wide celebration, part of the #oneseries We sold some Boereworsrolle to help us raise funds for our #mission ... God is so faithful in providing us with finances as well as prayer warriors who will intercede for the team during our mission.
