Intro post:

Hello everyone. This is my first time on Tumblr. I had a blog hosted by WordPress, but I was getting zero traffic and readers. I even tried to advertise my old blog on my Instagram, but most people scrolled through the main page and never read anything. Every once in a while, a search engine led strangers to certain specific articles I wrote, but that happened maybe twice a month.

I started out as a "New Age blogger." I was not involved in witchcraft and occult spaces. The circles I was part of were all led by older New Agers that still believed in starseeds, indigo children, and an eclectic "goddess of the month" veneration. This was back in 2017-2018. Over time, I became disenchanted with the New Age, and I found community with online occult spaces.

I have been trained in trance drumming meditation for spirit work. My knowledge/experience falls under the "shamanic practitioner" umbrella. I acknowledge that "shamanic practitioner" is a problematic phrase, as well as "shaman/shamanism". Instead of using these terms, I have learned to refer to my practice as spirit working, animism or trance working. In the beginning of my personal practice, I was called to work with goddess Brigid of the Celtic pantheon. As of 2019, I was called by Odin to work with Norse deities, and at the end of 2020 Odin assigned me to work with Loki. There had been rapid, chaotic changes going on in my life and health that necessitated my work with Loki. In January 2021, I performed the nine day "Breaking Loki's Bonds" ritual that I found in Dagulf Lopston's blog, where I essentially oathed myself to Loki.

I have a god-consort relationship with Loki. He is sometimes a lover, but a very powerful ally that can help clear stagnation (whether you were ready for it or not). Loki is a thrill seeker, and he shares my love for going on interesting adventures. He can be rather hyper with you if your favorite things to do involves staying inside and doing nothing. But Loki is very understanding if you are trying to practice self-care. He may even be encouraging with you when you are mentally taxed enough to not want to move. Loki has asked me to incorporate actual witchcraft and spellcraft into my personal practice. I have been spiritually attacked because of my trance journeying practice, and two major manifestations of the attack appeared as car accidents. Loki came to stay in my spiritual life after the second car accident, where several psychic friends of mine strongly suggested that I perform my first candle spell to repel the evil that was sent to harm me. Candle spells are a great way to work with the fire element (elemental magic), and knowing when to burn a candle spell involves research into planetary magic. I thank Loki for helping me learn something different to add to my practice.

One more thing I can say about my spiritual practice is that I am also attuned to Reiki. I can use energy healing on myself or others, and I can use energy work to charge my candle spells (and other sacred objects).

I intend for my Tumblr to be less about formal research, and more about what I discover about my spiritual practice as I grow. I do have a lot of old WordPress blog posts that I will repost here. I hope you will enjoy them.

Back in February I went to a psychic fair and asked for a 365 day reading. This is done with a lot of tarot cards and they are pulled to represent the months and quarters of the year. I had the Tower card show up for the quarter involving April/May/June. My reader and I could not figure out what that meant, so she guessed that it had to do with my spiritual path. . Well, my spiritual path is still ongoing. What actually happened was that on June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, thus ending a landmark decision on the right to privacy in a lot of things that women choose for themselves, and is setting a precedent that all my independent rights as a woman in America is in jeopardy. . I see this card as many things. A foundational structure being torn down in a violent manner. Something that someone has built for themselves with their ego is being taken down. Cyclic ending and rebirth. Disruption. Change. Catastrophe. That reader I went to wasn't pulling cards for me. Last month, Occult Twitter blew up with news that an owner of a Discord server encouraged their followers to seek out and label witch influencers as "safe" or "suspect," according to made-up standards on witchcraft and the occult. . I expressed my concerns for situations like this to one of my spiritual teachers during a reading earlier this week. I got confirmation that minding your own business is the way to go, and I absolutely have to rise above this. Most of the witch influencers I follow have been advocating to not show off your own practice in every detail. Most beginners may misunderstand or expect their practice to look as aesthetically pleasing as a staged IG photo. . Your journey is about your own healing. Your spiritual journey may have similarities to what other people are going through, but no one has the same path. My UPG with Loki and music:

Loki is a huge fan of Wardruna. He especially likes the Kvitravn album that Wardruna made recently. I personally cannot listen to anything else that Wardruna made besides that album. Because of this, Loki asked me to preview the other albums in case we liked something else Wardruna made.

Loki is okay with the artist Myrkurr, but doesn't like SKALD. I like SKALD and I had listened to it on purpose to annoy him once.

Loki is a huge fan of Heilung. We both agree that Heilung is absolutely fantastic.

If you use Spotify, I highly recommend the "Northern Spirits" playlist that is made for free on the app. You can use it to find other outstanding heathen music artists that you and Loki can jam out to. I am aware that Loki likes certain types of American music too. That totally depends on the UPG of other Lokeans. Ask your fellow Lokeans for a playlist they made to dedicate to him, or create one for your practice.

Nalu Nakai=the quiet surf/quiet wave . Why do I find myself staring longingly at the ocean? Not just any ocean....specifically the ocean waters around Hawaii. When I was learning to scuba dive, I noticed that the water was the brightest blue color I have ever seen. I heard that there are other places around the world that are like that, but I found myself craving the water here. The bottled water tastes different. The water in the ocean feels different. I was given a confirmation that I needed the healing gifts that the ocean waters around here are rumored to give. It has been a blessing I worked hard to earn. . I was called to work with the Norse gods fully in 2019, and I oathed myself to Loki in 2021. Due to my work schedule, I do good just to be able to give him offerings or light his candle. Trance drumming journey has been performed infrequently since I have found so many exciting things to do and people to meet. I don't get the sense that Loki is jealous (he is not hateful or wrathful). I get the sense that he wants to see me enjoy playtime in a better environment than where I was previously living and working at. . With that said, I am shedding my chosen heathen name because I managed to outgrow it. I can barely feel a connection to fellow heathens online. There are no seasons to celebrate in Hawaii. It's all endless summer. The local sea goddess Namaka embraced me and said I could choose a gift from her. I chose "nalu" the wave. I decided to expand on it and create a new magic name for myself, Nalu Nakai. I have been considering setting up a Ko-Fi. A lot of people like my photos around Oahu, and I am considering bringing back weekly or monthly divination readings. People in Hawaii do not need my healing services, so I have not marketed myself at all for that. It turns out that I am the person that needs the deep healing... . Trickster, psychopomp and healer. This was today's message from the god Mercury, also known as Hermes in Greek mythology. . Trickster: working with Loki as my patron deity, being able to see and speak the truth. . Psychopomp: It never worked out for me to be a teacher in spiritual matters. In the past, I ended up with clients that desperately needed house blessings and cleansings. The homes I visited had heavy amounts of energy built up from traumatic events and people that are no longer alive. A psychopomp leads the spirits of the dead, and lost spirits, to the place of rest. I took that role without realizing this when I was living in Georgia. I did get to perform a few soul retrievals in a shamanic role, but this is a topic for another day. The goddess Hel, one of Loki's children, is asking to help support me in this. . Healer: I have been attuned to Reiki, an energy healing modality. I got another confirmation that Reiki/energy work is something that still resonates with me. Another message is that Loki and Mercury both want to change my spirit name again. It seems that I outgrew my heathen name that I made up for myself. Mercury wants to refer to me as "Aegis". Every time I am home I like to shop at a local Los Angeles occult shop The Crooked Path (@thecrookedpath_la ). I grabbed a purification spell kit and turned it into a purification bath. I wanted to bring in healing to my body, mind and spirit for the new year. I also wanted to bring in overall new energies and healing to my life, while getting rid of old energies and negative thoughts that no longer serve me. Hey kids, don't try taking pictures while driving. . I couldn't help it. The sunset was so intense last night. . I have not set any New Year intentions. I don't really know what I want to do besides a bath ritual. Today I visited my favorite occult shop in Burbank while I have been home in California. I got a few spell kits and a zodiac mojo bag. I might be too tired or busy to do major spiritual work, and that's okay. Taking time to enjoy the present moment is probably what I need. I celebrated Yule a few days early because the solstice is happening on a weeknight, and I am guaranteed to be too tired from work to do a trance journey.

I had a hard time with my journey because it had been over one month since I last did one (back on Samhain). It was hard to focus but it was enjoyable. I invited Loki and Odin to be with me in Sacred Space. Odin gave me a message about resiliency and facing my challenges. On the altar I placed a cup of locally-made Hawaiian mead for him, and Loki's offering was the cup of wine sitting next to it. Loki has been bugging me to get him his own offering cup but I haven't had the opportunity to get one.

Skadi and Thor were also in my journey. Skadi was in the middle of hunting, and Thor was just tagging along. I asked Odin to tell me again why I was paired with Loki as my patron. Odin reminded me that I was recently in constant spiritual warfare with energies and entities that wished me harm. This is one of the reasons why I was wrecked in two car accidents outside my apartment when I lived in Georgia. I needed cunning and protection. I needed to embrace the shadows, while most spirit workers try to avoid or banish everything that makes someone uncomfortable. I needed to be flexible, which requires an embrace of shape-shifting. I needed to learn how to jump through worlds without leaving a trace of myself and be fully protected (which might be why I have been targeted in energy and psychic attacks in the past).

The trickster path isn't easy. I still have much to learn and a lot of research to do. I have been trying to read on planetary magic and candle magic at the same time. So far, the first two candle magic books I read were very disappointing. I don't know what to do with them since I have finished. I will probably donate them to a thrift store.

A close family member of mine has a really bad habit of dumping their emotional baggage upon everyone as some sort of conversation piece. It has almost become a personality trait for this person. They have no idea how ridiculous and annoying they are when they do this. . This is another reason why we do shadow work for ourselves. Shadow work is not some vague concept about working with dark energies. The dark energies you are working with are coming from you. The bad habits, previous trauma you experienced, your emotional overreactions, your personal baggage, etc are all subjects to be examined thoroughly in personal shadow work. . Doing shadow work could be as simple as keeping a daily journal about how your day went, or an elaborate pagan ritual. Do what works best for you. Healing takes time. I will not recommend this book. I bought 4 books on candle magic and this is the second one I have read and been disappointed in.

This was written in 1990 by an author that had no intention of really teaching the right and wrong way of candle magic. He wrote with a sarcastic attitude and made fun of ceremonial magic, while contradicting himself several times about trying to teach the basics. His bibliography was barely a page long. I got very little from this book and I regret buying it.

I am trying to master the art of brewing mugwort tea. I have learned that if I steep it too long, it turns bitter really quick. Next time I make this, I just need to time the steep time for about 3 minutes.

Mugwort is a great herb to use to open your 3rd Eye energy center and Crown energy center. Those two energy points are how you can access your higher self, use psychic abilities like clairvoyance, hear messages from your deities, etc. Mindfulness meditation is one way to practice accessing your higher self, but mugwort can accelerate the process.

Early in my spiritual journey, one of my spiritual teachers warned that relying on mugwort may cause you to be unable to perform a trance journey without assistance from a plant ally. If you practice trance meditation, try to use mugwort sparingly. Only use mugwort of you are in a long period of struggling to get into the right mindset to access your higher self or perform a trance journey.

Also, this is you first ever reminder from me that Wicca is a valid religious/pagan practice. I know Wicca is not for me, but I do not condone the trend of trashing all Wiccans for the past mistakes that their progenitors have made. If you don't believe me, look up Thorn Mooney and Mortellus; both of whom are decent Gardnerian Wiccans and teach amazing things from their corner of their pagan paths.

I am in the process of changing my second altar. It sits on my dresser and was originally dedicated to Archangel Michael. I recently noticed that I don't feel his presence or his calling any more. I am not sure why he left...maybe it has to do with the baby beetle nest I found on the altar cloth.

The altar cloth that I dedicated to angel work is an antique European lace doily with angel designs. I will always use it for angel work, but I am actually shelving that practice for the time being. My second altar is changing to an altar to Hel, the fire element, spirits of the dead and cthonic energy. I might even throw in some planet magic for Mercury.

Hel is the first Norse goddess that reached out to me before Odin came. I think she deserves her altar now. All of this seems to coincide with some potential new books coming out about poison path herbs, necromancy, graveyard magic, etc. Not sure where my pagan path leads but I am excited. I am sure there will be more work with spirits of the dead later.

Edit: Scrap that idea; I don't want a dark portal opened in my bedroom. I am developing a Mercury planet magic altar idea that will have Loki and Hel involved. The energy might work better that way and not haunt me in my sleep. I already get a poor amount of sleep already.
