One of the things I will never understand is seeing some fanfiction writers here get offended over criticism. I would understand if it was deconstructive criticism/insults.
However, a certain amount of the time, it's over minor/constructive critiques such as spelling errors, not making paragraphs, etc. 😑
I understand you're doing this for fun, but please acknowledge you're posting content on public areas for people to see. Posting constructive criticism doesn't mean they hate you. They just want you to improve or do better in a particular thing.
🤓 um actually that's not what deconstructive means! It's the adjectival form of the verb "deconstruct" which means to take something apart and examine how it works, not the negation of the word "constructive." You really should gain a better understanding of the nuances in each individual word you want to use before you start making posts in public areas where people can see. 😔
Please understand I'm not doing this because I hate you! I just want you to learn and do better with your word choice! 💕
Thanks for that. I will acknowledge my mistakes and improve on my vocabulary
Seriously, did you expect me to get upset at that? That just proves fanfic writers on here are immature and can't take criticism
I mean you threw a temper tantrum on another post about how much you hate Tumblr before responding to me, so I'm guessing I pressed your buttons at least a little bit.
As a quick reminder, the post that got you so bent out of shape in the first place was a writer sharing a comment that they got that was nothing but complaining about them using "British slang." No "I really liked your fic" or "wow your characterization is incredible" or anything positive whatsoever.
I'm not sure if you've ever taken a creative writing course or been in any other environment that requires you to give good constructive feedback, but the comment she received is not...that. Good constructive feedback praises what someone does well before detailing areas of improvement. That is the blueprint that I've seen over and over and over again, from creative writing groups, to code reviews, to job performance discussions. This is not fanfic writers being soft—this is pretty basic "how humans like to be told they're doing something wrong." If you fail at that, you come off as blunt, obnoxious, and incredibly, incredibly nitpicky.
(personally I 100% wouldn't mind if someone commented on my fic or messaged me to point out a typo! But if I click on an AO3 comment email all excited only to be told that a typo of mine "ruined the vibe" and given nothing positive whatsoever? Yeah I'm also gonna be a bit miffed lmao)
Acknowledging a certain amount of users can get pressed over minor things doesn't mean I had a temper tantrum also other people have responded to me.
I know people should watch what they're saying. However, people have to respond to criticism in a mature manner
Why do they have to? Why is it a requirement to respond to nitpicky, bad-faith criticism in a "mature" way? What does "mature" even mean to you in this context? I think Hype's response was perfectly even-keeled.
Honestly at this point I'm kinda starting to wonder if I'm arguing with a teenager—I've never seen an adult this obsessed with acting "mature" on the internet lmfao
I admit a person doesn't have to respond positively to negative comments or insults. People shouldn't be rude to writers. However, ranting how one person left a non offensive comment when you can easily ignore it seems weird.
