i haven't been writing too much about my version of hikoma, at least for a while, the thing about that is i think most people do "shipping" differently from me, which is alright, but then... i just find myself very discouraged to talk about my own way of shipping, because i know i will inevitably get misunderstood, i feel weird tagging them as hikoma slash but tagging "&" feels just as weird

and i just can't with some folks trying so hard to convince me that komaeda has this conventional romantic feeling and confesses romantically to hinata, citing some nebulous mistranslation without really explaining how the language was mistranslated; i just can't; especially considering the fact that i have played the games all in its original japanese (if you'd like to know my credentials, i got a literal perfect score in JLPT N1); and have been thinking about hikoma for a decade by now; of course i can see them in a romantic light and would read fanworks portraying them as a couple, but that's just not interesting enough for me to do a deep dive myself; i dont speak this language, i just don't... so that's why i rarely do any hinata/komaeda art that focuses on them being cute together, but i still ship them, you know? i do so very much!

i don't think they need to be obsessed with each other... like they just happened to be together at this very specific time and place and they met -- just that -- and bonded in a twisted way -- as Monokuma said, a twisted friendship -- and that is enough for me to be all over them.

@thatevilweevil I appreciate your rambling and thoughts💚🥹... I think one thing I don't necessarily agree is that he "was chronically ignored by everyone." As I try to show in page 5, he has had a lot of achievements, albeit not being the best, he was still a successful kid. This I didn't show explicitly in comic but the kid Hinata was out buying a cake (his parents gave him the money and ask him to buy something nice for himself). It's not that he's ignored and wants attention, it's that he thinks he deserves more attention, he wants to be the only one, the special. He was being regarded as good, as capable, but not "ultimate" good/capable. If it was someone with less ambition they'd been fine and even satisfied, but Hinata has this stubborn and strong desire to ascend to "the only hope" status, he thinks that he just need one more step! And that step made him sign the papers and let go of his own selfhood. He wasn't ignored. He was acknowledged, but felt like it wasn't enough, that he should've been more and better.

I have to say I feel like a holdout in this fandom and am kinda close minded to new stuff (I've been a fan ever since the game came out (even before Absolute Despair Girl) so I don't really take dr3 anime as seriously as some later fans do... I can't change my ways it's been tooooo long!! So 2×2 will also be like a "official headcanon" for me haha

I might be wrong but I feel like the danganronpa fandom is a bit less active overall? Im sure there will be a new wave of excitement when 2x2 releases though! Either way, your comic is very nice and heartfelt, I liked it! :)
