20 y/o Lili concept for my psychonauts au, Parapsyche/ Parapsyte. Im still trying to figure out how to render, it feels like i never render the same way twice. Doesn’t matter here, since its just a concept :P I’m drawing razs version when i wake up
Looking for any advice to improve her design, especially from the original sketch
Advice, huh? *Puts on big sister hat* I'll do my best.
As a few disclaimers, my style may not be your style so take everything with a grain of salt. I am definitely still learning.
I love her design. It is clearly influenced by the old one in a nice way and has details that do make her look older. That's really good.
My thoughts really hit three spots. Shapes, texture, and colors.
Her shape, if you look at it, looks almost the exact same as the old one with a few exceptions. I would make a visual but I'm typing this at 11pm. Let me know if you need some.
In design, strong shapes give good messages about the intent of your character or the interpretation of the canon character in you AU. Lili, for example, might strike you as hot tempered and so you use triangles. Or you think she better fits rectangles and use those.
Now, with that being said, you might have the similarities on purpose. I don't know a ton about this AU. But my gut instinct is that we need some stronger shapes in there.
Textures is a bit of a skill thing, so no fault to you if you haven't studied it yet. Your patterns and wrinkles on the jacket look great!
But I find my eyes lacking in texture variation on the different clothes. What kind of clothes am I looking at? Wool? Polyester? Leather like Raz's aviator thingy?
Color is also one of those things where I'm unsure if it was intentional so add a few more grains of salt to your spoon. Mint, dark blue, and magenta is a great palette.
I do wonder if there are some variations on those colors you could add in. 20 to the teens has a lot of experimentation with clothing. It does look good, but I feel it could be pushed a bit to great.
Ooooof that's long. I do not blame you for not reading this. And for balking at my advice considering all the salt you have to add.
Omg thank you this actually really helps, its the exact kind input im looking for when i ask for design advice, thank you so much, i will take all these grains of salt :D
