As the years passed, and I was finally able to get Mad Men on the air, I knew that Palm Springs would play a role in the story because it was the epicenter of style and glamor at that time. It was important to me (and to my wife) to let people know the value of this optimistic, clean, practical design and how spaces have been created that offered protection from the extremes of the desert while seamlessly embracing its stark beauty. With the help of my writing staff, we figured out a storyline that would allow our protagonist to visit the wealthy nomads who seasonally patronized these places and hopefully in the process of telling our story we would remind people of what Palm Springs is and was and not to let it disappear.
