⋆.ೃ࿔ there's always a next time
katsuki bakugou x reader who doesn't survive the final war ⋆·˚ ༘
the war is over.
that's what everyone keeps saying.
the war is over.
the wounded are being brought into hospitals faster than the staff can keep track of them. katsuki is one of them. he has bandages wrapped around half his body, his arm supported carefully against his chest, and so much painkillers in his system that the ceiling seems to move whenever he looks at it for too long.
but he doesn't care, because you're in the room across the hall and they won't let him see you at first.
you're still unstable.
so he waits for hours and then more, until someone finally lets him through.
you're unconscious and there are machines beside the bed. katsuki stops in the doorway and he finds himself with nothing to say.
he's seen people hurt, he's been hurt himself. he's watched heroes go down and get carried away before.
but this is you.
and suddenly every sound in the room seems too loud.
he drags a chair toward the bed, “hey.”
he sits, “y/n, war's over.”
nothing.
he looks down at his hands, “so you can wake up now.”
the words sound stupid the second they're out. he clears his throat, “we've got shit to do.”
nothing.
“we still gotta finish first year.”
he glances toward you, “and you said you wanted to go somewhere after finals.”
his mouth pulls into something that isn't quite a smile, “can't remember where. some stupid place but im sure you'll remember.”
he leans back, “we'll go okay?”
the next day, he comes back. then the day after, then the day after that. every time, he has something new to tell you even though most times they weren't important stuff.
“kirishima's been here and he cried.” he said, looking at you, “don't fucking laugh. i know you can't, but still.”
he left and came back the next day, “mina brought flowers.”
he wrinkles his nose, “they're ugly and smelly... whatever. don't tell her i said that.”
he looks toward the window., “they're talking about rebuilding everything. dorms, training grounds, all that shit.” he says it casually.
one afternoon, he sits beside you and starts talking about summer, “when you're out, we're going somewhere.”
your eyes remain closed, “i don't care where.”
he picks at a loose thread on the blanket, “you can choose. actually, no. you'll pick somewhere expensive.”
he snorts, “so i'll choose.”
he starts listing places, and things they could do.
you listen without answering.
eventually, your eyes flutter open, katsuki's eyes widen and he rushes over, “hey.”
your eyes drift toward him. he leans closer, “you hear me?”
a tiny nod. his shoulders loosen.
you look at him for a long moment. then, barely above a whisper, “why... are you making plans?”
“what?”
“you keep...” your breath catches. “making plans.”
he looks away, “because we're gonna do them, idiot.”
“katsuki…”
“what?”
you stare at him, “what if...”
he cuts you off, "shut up."
his jaw tightens, “don't fucking do that.”
“but-”
“no.” he looks at you again. there's something frightened underneath all that anger. something you don't think you've ever seen from him, “there's gonna be a next month.”
you don't answer and he reaches for your hand, “quit asking stupid questions.”
your fingers barely curl around his and his thumb brushes over your knuckles.
“we've got plans.”
you don't make it to summer.
you don't make it back to school.
you don't get to choose the restaurant.
you don't get to complain about wherever he picks.
you don't ever get to finish first year.
and katsuki doesn't understand how the world can keep moving when yours has stopped.
the school year ends without you.
then another begins.
your desk is empty and he hates looking at it. the class had decided that seat would always be saved for you, even if you weren't there physically.
although people stop mentioning you as often, because there are some names that eventually become too painful to say casually.
katsuki doesn't let himself forget. he keeps making plans, at first, because he can't stop. later, because it's the only way he knows how to talk to you.
second year, he sits beside your memorial plaque after class, “we got new training equipment.”
he picks at the grass, “it's better than the old shit. you would've liked it.”
he looks at the plaque.
third year, he shows up after graduation, still wearing his uniform, “we made it.”
he looks down thinking to himself, “would've hated the speeches.”
he smiles faintly, “actually, no. you would've cried.”
twenty years old, he's a pro hero now.
his name is everywhere, and his pictures were everywhere too. people who knew him back then sometimes comment on it. he doesn't know what they're talking about but he still gets angry and was still swearing at people. he wasn't too good with media but at least he's been doing better.
he comes home from work and sits on the edge of his bed, “today sucked.”
he looks at the empty chair across from him with one of your pictures framed, “some idiot nearly got himself killed because he didn't listen.”
“reminded me of you.” he laughs quietly, “yeah, yeah. fuck you too.”
twenty-two, he brings his hero costume to your memorial, “finally got the new one. took them forever. you would've liked it.”
his fingers brush over one of the gauntlets, “you'd probably say it looked cooler than mine from school.”
he smiles.
twenty-five, he's had a particularly terrible day. he sits down in front of your memorial without bothering to change out of his work clothes, “i fucked up today.”
he stares at the ground and started to complain about the day.
he looks up, “anyway.”
he leans back, “i got that restaurant, the one we never went to.”
his mouth twitches, “it was expensive as hell. pretty sure you would've loved it though.”
twenty-eight, he doesn't visit as often anymore because life had been busy, but whenever something important happens, he still comes.
he stands there for a while, “my rank improved.”
“don't laugh.” he looks away, “yeah, i know. sounds weird coming from me.”
and then, one evening, much later, he sits beside your memorial after a long day.
katsuki looks at your name, “you know what pisses me off? i kept waiting for some day where i'd have nothing to tell you.”
he laughs under his breath, “never happened.”
he looks down at his hands, “there's always something.”
a new agency, their old classmates, a new fight, a stupid argument, someone doing something that would've made you laugh.
another birthday.
another year.
another thing he wishes you could've seen.
he sits there for a while, “i'll come back next week.”
he looks back one last time, “got some shit to tell you.”

There was one striking difference between Wonderland and Auradon.
Auradon was... Colorful.
It wasn't that Wonderland lacked its own wonders. Quite the opposite, but you had only ever experienced them through the palace windows.
Between the Hatters' perpetual chaos and your family's rather strained relationship with several Wonderland relatives, your mother had long decided that venturing beyond the palace grounds was unnecessary.
Now, for the first time in your life, the world beyond those pristine white walls seemed infinitely larger.
As your white carriage rolled through the kingdom of Auradon, crowds lined the streets, waving enthusiastically at its passing.
After a moment's hesitation, you lifted a hand in greeting.
A sharp tap from your mother's fan immediately made you lower it.
"Straighten your posture, child. Do not disappoint me again with lapses in your etiquette."
The White Queen returned her fan to her lips while her free hand drew the carriage curtain closed, hiding the crowds from your view.
You knew better than to argue.
Instead, you adjusted your posture, folded your hands neatly in your lap, and carefully schooled every trace of curiosity from your expression.
The remainder of the journey passed in silence.
Only upon approaching Auradon Prep did that silence finally shatter.
The school band erupted into a triumphant fanfare, the percussion booming through the courtyard. It bore little resemblance to the refined melodies of Wonderland's royal ensemble.
It sounded less like music the music you were used to and more like organized chaos.
"Oh, my word."
Your mother visibly winced. She brought her hands up to cover her ears.
Unable to tolerate the noise, she ordered the servants to keep the carriage doors closed until the performance had ended.
Through the narrow gap in the curtains, you caught glimpses of the assembled royals exchanging puzzled looks.
At last, the final note faded.
Only then did your mother allow the carriage doors to be opened.
The two of you stepped onto the grounds together.
Judging by the surprised expressions surrounding you, it seemed your enrollment had not been widely announced.
How... wonderful.
Your mother moved a step ahead before casting a warning over her shoulder.
"Do not ruin this for me."
You silently clasped your hands before you and followed after her.
The welcoming party, however, was not who you had expected.
According to your acceptance letter, King Ben and Queen Mal were meant to preside over the convocation.
Instead, standing before the academy were Cinderella, King Charming, Fairy Godmother and...
...the Queen of Hearts...
...and their children.
Not quite the family reunion you were expecting so suddenly.
"And why," your mother asked without the slightest concern for those listening, "aren’t Auradon's real King and Queen present to receive us?"
The gathering stiffened.
Only Bridget, the Queen of Hearts, remained unfazed. She stepped forward with a warm smile.
"Sister. It is wonderful to see you again."
She spread her hands politely.
"King Ben and Queen Mal were unexpectedly called away on royal business. We have the honor of hosting today's convocation in their stead."
"I suppose we shall discover," your mother replied, snapping open her fan with practiced elegance, "whether the heart is capable of standing in for the crown."
Her smile remained hidden behind the fan.
Bridget's eyebrow twitched almost imperceptibly.
Sensing the growing tension, Cinderella gracefully stepped between them.
"And this," she said warmly, turning her attention toward you, "must be our newest student."
You stepped forward as your mother moved aside.
Offering a deep, perfectly rehearsed bow, you held the pose just long enough before straightening once more.
Every movement had been practiced countless times, every gesture measured with each expression carefully restrained.
Your mother seemed pleased.
"A pleasure to meet you," Cinderella said, returning your bow with one of her own.
"I hope you'll enjoy your time here at Auradon Prep."
You inclined your head politely.
"Thank you, Your Majesty."
She gestured toward two waiting guards.
"If you'll accompany them, they'll show you to your private accommodations."
Your brows drew together ever so slightly.
Private?
You glanced toward your mother.
She answered before you could ask.
"No child of mine," the White Queen declared, carefully surveying the assembled royals before choosing her words, "shall be expected to share quarters with... less distinguished company."
You lowered your gaze.
There was little point in protesting — not when it was already done.
Instead, you quietly followed the guards as instructed.
Behind you, your mother remained with the royal delegation to discuss matters concerning Wonderland's affairs.
As you departed, one of your Wonderland cousins, Red, throws a farewell your way.
"See you later, cousin," She called with a lazy wave, Pink more enthusiastic in her manners.
You acknowledged them with the smallest nod before continuing toward your new room, the sounds of the welcoming ceremony fading behind you.
-
The guards unlocked your door before placing the key carefully into your hand.
With a courteous bow, they wished you a pleasant afternoon before disappearing down the corridor.
Only once their footsteps had faded did you finally step inside.
The room was...
Exactly like home.
In the worst way imaginable.
The walls, furniture, drapery — every inch of the room had been fashioned in immaculate white. Not a single trace remained of the vibrant colors you had admired outside. A courtesy arranged by your mother.
Grand.
A quiet sigh escaped you as you wandered farther into the room.
Your luggage had already arrived, every belonging carefully unpacked and arranged with meticulous precision.
It was almost as though you had never left the palace at all.
Only one thing was different.
The window.
It stood open.
You wandered toward it almost absentmindedly, resting your hands against the sill.
From here you could see the academy grounds stretching below.
Students laughed together. Some hurried between buildings. Others simply sat beneath the trees, talking as though they had known each other forever.
You watched them in silence.
Like some forgotten painting locked away in a gallery...
...you couldn't have imagined your first day would feel quite so lonely.
The world seemed so close.
Yet impossibly distant.
A knock sounded at your door.
You exhaled slowly.
Wishful thinking would accomplish nothing. If anything were to change you would have to be the one to change it.
You crossed the room and opened the door.
No one stood outside.
Your gaze drifted down both ends of the hallway.
Empty.
Well — almost empty…
Resting neatly against the threshold sat a familiar porcelain teacup.
The corners of your mouth lifted ever so slightly.
You bent to retrieve it.
It was no longer the pristine white cup you remembered. Tiny sketches now covered its surface. Miniature mushrooms, playing cards, a pocket watch and Wonderland's winding paths.
Even a terribly drawn hedgehog wearing what appeared to be a crown.
You found yourself tracing one of the doodles with your thumb.
Curious.
This...
This was the first splash of color your room had seen and strangely you didn't mind.
Closing the door behind you, you turned back toward your room.
Only to freeze.
Standing comfortably in the middle of it, completely uninvited, was Max Hatter.
He was so engrossed in the book resting between his hands that he hadn't even acknowledged your presence.
"Auradon's Ancient History," Max read aloud before snapping the book shut with an enthusiastic clap.
He looked at you with theatrical disbelief.
"Don't tell me this is the book you were reading when we first met."
Your surprise faded almost immediately into quiet amusement.
"Is it such a crime," you asked evenly, "to wish to understand the kingdom in which I am expected to reside?"
"No." Max wandered toward you without the slightest concern for personal space.
"I just think that's the boring way to do it."
"What?" you replied. "Reading? I wasn't exactly doing it for your entertainment."
You reached for the book with your free hand. Max casually lifted it out of reach.
"No." He grinned. "I'm talking about learning."
You looked at him, expectantly.
"Why settle for someone else's stories..."
He says, tucking the book beneath his coat.
"...when you could go make your own?"
You frowned slightly.
There were no pockets inside that coat. Let alone space for something so large but…
The book had simply vanished.
"What exactly do you want, Hatter?"
Max placed a hand dramatically over his heart.
"Your Highness, you wound me. Must I want something simply to enjoy your company?" His faux innocence is amusing to behold.
Your move past him, discarding the tea cup on your desk top.
"Hatters are traders."
A pause.
"Nothing comes without an exchange."
"You don't even know me." Max offers you a raised brow.
"Perhaps not." You inclined your head. "But when I saved your life..."
Your eyes drifted meaningfully toward the teacup.
"...you thanked me by stealing my porcelain."
Max followed your gaze.
"I brought it back."
"You returned it after trespassing into my room," you stepped closer. "And now you've stolen one of my books."
One elegant finger pressed lightly against the center of his chest.
"I should say you're making a rather poor impression, Hatter."
Max laughed.
A genuine laugh.
"Fair enough."
He had clearly cornered himself — not that Hatters ever remained cornered for long.
Instead of arguing, he gently reached for your hand.
Slowly.
Giving you every opportunity to pull away.
You didn't.
His brown eyes met yours, heavily.
He bowed once more before placing another feather-light kiss upon your gloved knuckles.
"Then allow me to begin again." He smiled.
"Properly."
Releasing your hand, he backed toward the open window.
"May I have the honor of showing Your Highness the real magic of Auradon?"
Your answer caught somewhere in your throat.
Truthfully...
You wanted to go.
To see more than carefully polished hallways.
More than palace walls.
More than another perfectly arranged white room.
But—
"My mother would see us." You warned.
"Then," Max said with a mischievous grin, "I suppose we'll simply have to go somewhere she can't."
Before you could object...
He climbed onto the windowsill.
Your heart lurched.
"Max."
Your room sat at the very top of the dormitory tower.
One misstep and —
He leaned backward.
"...Max."
And fell.
You rushed toward the window, panic overtaking every ounce of royal composure.
Only to stop short.
Max wasn't falling.
He was standing sideways against the castle wall as though gravity had politely agreed to take the afternoon off.
He looked entirely pleased with himself.
"How..."
You barely managed the word.
Max answered by producing a small glass vial from his pocket.
Inside shimmered golden pixie dust.
"Borrowed a little pixie dust from Tinker Bell. Don’t worry – I promise to give… most of it back."
He scattered a pinch into the air.
Golden sparkles drifted around him.
Moments later, he floated effortlessly upward until he hovered just beyond your window.
He extended a hand toward you.
"So..."
His smile softened.
"What do you say? Will you let me show you Auradon?"
The proposal was completely irrational.
Utterly irresponsible.
Almost certainly forbidden.
Then again...
No one came from Wonderland without being at least a little insane.
synopsis: waking up in a prison cell wasn’t the interplanetary welcome you were expecting. this hero they’ve sent to question you is the most welcomed distraction though.
info: hey! this is heavily inspired by SUPERGIRL! if you haven’t seen it, it’s still easy to read. me and aali watched it and whilst the credits were rolling i told her this idea. different to what i usually write but i enjoyed :) this is probably going to be a one shot.
bakugou katsuki hates this part of his job. he finds it incredibly boring, uneventful and somewhat like those detective movies his mother watches in the evening. he’s not a detective or a police officer, he’s a pro hero built for the streets, fighting real villains. not in the foreign governmental holding cell with the purpose of asking questions, while the person in it has anti-quirk handcuffs on. so fucking boring. at least take the handcuffs off them, give him a real challenge.
bakugou barges into the cell, shoulder first into the iron heavy windowless door and the first thing he does is sigh. he crosses his arms across his chest and he flicks his eyes over the room. grey brick walls, square room, a metal toilet in the corner and a thin mattress on the floor. it’s the same as every other high risk room in this prison.
minus you, the woman he’s supposed to be talking to. bakugou frowns, a low unimpressed huh leaving his throat. he was told he’d be dealing with an alien here but from what he can see of you, hugging your arms to your chest on the floor, head resting on your knees… you look human. like him. two arms, two legs. he needs to check your face when you look up but otherwise, there’s nothing particularly alien-like about you and bakugou’s met many aliens before.
apparently you haven’t spoken to anyone in three days. police have tried, detectives and doctors. they decided he’d be the next step in case you end up being violent.
“fuck, how does it go?” he mutters to himself, shutting the squeaking door behind him. “hate this shit.”
you don’t move at the sound of his voice but your handcuffs glow green around your wrists. you’re in the same orange jumpsuits as everyone else in this building. bakugou’s a fan of the colour.
“my name is dynamight, i’m a hero here on earth. i’ve gotta ask you a couple questions ‘cause protocol and shit. we dunno who you are, why you’re here or what you can do. the quicker we get this done, the quicker we both can go home.”
it’s the mention of home that gets your attention. you lift your head up off your legs and you turn to face the man who’s taking up more space than necessary in your cell.
as bakugou gasps, you snigger.
what the hell is this guy wearing? those wings by his head? are the height of those boots to compensate for something else?
you’re definitely human looking. two sparkly eyes, a nose in the centre of your face. nobody told him the alien was beautiful. fucking stunning.
he wants to go home now, he’s not prepared to be speaking to a woman like you after a ten hour shift. fuck, he doesn’t think he ever would be.
bakugou clears his throat. he stands up straight and tightens his arms across his chest.
“you’re very… fuck, anyway,” he’s so goddamn embarrassing.
you start laughing, these light buttery giggles that feel like they’re breathing air into bakugou’s lungs. your eyes brighten, you even lean back on the wall like you’re taking a better look at him. he feels your eyes travel from his boots to the top of his head.
thank god this man has a pretty face, or at least he would if he stopped frowning because this outfit he’s wearing looks stupid. does anyone else on this planet dress like this?
you’re laughing… and it feels like it’s at him instead of with him. he knows he didn’t say anything funny.
“do you not know english? they always say i need to speak english for this shit.” he grunts, scratching his head.
damn, he’s finding it hard to even look at you directly. the orange compliments you, makes your skin glow, makes you— stay focused.
“i doubt you’re gonna know any japanese. d’you understand me now?” he tries and he sees the frown on your face. confusion.
“ah, so you understand english. you just don’t want to talk to me.” he punctuates by jabbing his thumb into his chest and then leaning on the wall behind him.
you roll your eyes, which only gets bakugou grinning, then he calms down. he doesn’t need to be reacting like he won the lottery over a reaction from you.
“what’s your name?”
nothing. you blankly stare at his face.
“why are you here?”
nothing.
“c’mon just say somethin’ so i have somethin’ to say to them outside. then you get to go back home.”
you swallow, resting your head in your palm.
“this is an odd planet. a traveller lands and you immediately arrest them, deprive them of sunlight and dignity,” you nod your head towards the toilet in the corner of the room, “treating me like a criminal.”
you’ve got an accent. one he can’t place from anywhere specific on earth. it sounds almost melodic, easy to understand and very clear.
“so the alien talks,” dynamight, you think he introduced himself as earlier, says amused, “you fell from the sky, at a speed none of us has seen before. it was so fast, not even our meteorologists caught it. then you came out of this metal-like sphere that isn’t quite metal, they’re still workin’ that out, in a coma. not to mention you set alight the fields you landed in, causing a wildfire through acres and acres of land.”
bakugou squints at you, “you can see why we’d have a fuck load of questions, right?”
you look away from him. fuck. you were told the earth on this planet would have been able to handle your ship, not that you’d start a wildfire.
“i didn’t… i didn’t hurt anyone, did i?”
bakugou’s quick to shake his head, “no, the farmer ushered out all the animals in time. though you did destroy a families hundred year old strawberry farm.”
“shit.” you mutter, in your language. then in english, “i’ll help them as soon as i’m out of here.”
there’s a hero complex to you somewhere. hm. “and to get out of here, answer my questions. yeah?”
you sigh, “what do you want dynamo?”
bakugou’s face scrunches like a ball of paper, “dynamight. my name is dynamight.”
“is it actually? earth names didn’t sound like that when i researched.”
“it’s my fuckin’ hero name, i said that in my introduction at the beginnin’— you know what, never mind. call me dynamight. nothin’ else.”
you blink at him.
“what’s your name?” he tries.
he really wants to know your name. not for the sake of government purposes, just for himself.
“that’s personal, isn’t it?” you laugh but dynamight raises his eyebrows.
“not at all actually,” he breathes, equally restless and intrigued, “quick or we’ll be here all goddamn day.”
“you swear a lot, don’t you? is that normal?”
that catches bakugou off guard, he leans off the wall. “hah? you’re not askin’ me questions, woman. i’m doin’ the askin’.”
you chuckle, loud and sweet. “okay, okay! my name is yn.”
“yn,” he likes the sound of it on his lips, though it’s even better from yours, “yn where are you from?”
“why are you dressed like that?”
bakugou looks down at himself. he’s always been voted highly for best dressed hero. his black body suit, black and orange chunky boots. he’s got his wings at his shoulders. he doesn’t have his gauntlets on though, he doesn’t need them for this.
“this is my hero suit. how many times do i have to tell you, i’m a professional hero—.”
“hero,” you try, “is that your version of a protector? looking after civilians? the strongest of the people?”
bakugou can’t help but let his grin slip. he likes the sound of that. it’s all true. “y-yeah i am. currently third on the charts but i jump between one and two, so technically i’m the best in the country.”
you do an upside down smile, somewhat impressed. so this man is one of the strongest and cocky about it. his grin is cute too. his lips stretch wider, only one corner rising. a gold tooth shining. okay, his smirk is sexy.
“family must be proud.”
“they expected it,” he shrugs. wow, is it easy to get off topic with you. “any quirks?”
“quirks?”
“abilities different to the average.”
you scrunch your nose, “not that i know of.”
bakugou doesn’t know if he can trust you. “so if i took those handcuffs off you, nothing about you would change?”
honestly no. your body feels fine. mentally, not so much.
you snap the handcuffs apart, the middle chain breaking with ease, now appearing as two ugly grey bracelets on your wrists as the green glow slowly dies down. bakugou jumps at the sound, jaw dropping on command.
“what the fuck?” bakugou can’t even get out of those. he’s tried before in hero training. what are you? “why the hell didn't you get out of them before?”
“i…”
you’ve never experienced grief before and to experience it on the scale you are now... your parents, your family, your people, your home. all gone. you don’t think you wanted to break out of it yet.
“had other things on my mind,” you offer, looking up at this dynamight man. “what’s your… quirk?”
something about him is comforting. with those boots on, he’s as big as the men back home. just as wide too.
so to get information out of you, he has to give a little back. that’s okay for now.
“i sweat nitroglycerin. can create explosions from my hands,” he gives you a little show, facing his palms up to the ceiling and creating little sparks.
that gets you facing him, now cross legged on the floor. you sound like a child, brimming with curiosity. you don’t recognise the word nitroglycerin but you can assume. “how big can you make them?”
bakugou chuckles to himself, slowly sinking to sit down too. “question for question then. so it’s my turn now.”
you huff, “fine.”
have you showered in these three days? you look as if you have. a beautiful glow like those women in skincare adverts he sees.
“how old are you?” not the most important question, but he’s got to know. they couldn’t have gotten a more selfish hero to question you.
“fifty moon shines,” you say without a beat. “how old are you? wait, let me see your explosions!”
“woah, woah, hold on. fifty?” you either look good for your age or—, “how are years measured where you’re from?”
“182 days. isn’t it my turn to ask a question?”
“how long are your days?”
“twenty three hours.”
bakugou relaxes. you’re the same age as him.
“so you’re twenty five.”
“i just said i’m fifty.”
“to me that’s like you’re sayin’ you're a hundred in your time. you’re twenty five in this world, darlin’.”
“darling? what’s that?”
bakugou shakes his head. shouldn’t have said that. “nothin’. i’m twenty six.”
that pleases you for some reason. you both stare at each other for a few seconds, sizing the other up. you could take him in a fight you think. in bed too, if it came down to it.
“how big can you make your sweat explosions?”
bakugou winces. what an ugly name. “they’re not sweat explosions.” “but you said—,” “the size of buildings. could blow this whole building up. can also fly, use them as grenades, blind opponents, shoot them like a gun.”
he’s sharing too much now. you shouldn’t be telling your enemies your main attacks. it’s going to be a beautiful woman to take him down. that tarot reader kaminari took him to was right.
“that’s really cool, dynamight. i can’t do that.”
you sound honest, real. bakugou bends his knees and rests his arms on top. “it’s whatever. what can you do?”
you shrug, looking at your bare hands. there’s some dirt under your nails and they’re all chipped from your lack of basic essentials. “where i’m from, everyone is the same so i don’t know how different i am to you guys.”
bakugou gets that, “what’s the most you can lift—,”
“my turn now, hero. why’re you so pissy?” you ask, tilting your head at him.
bakugou can’t help the loud, “hah?” he sits up at that comment, hands flat on the floor.
“you came in here moaning. you swear in every sentence. you act like the world has done you wrong. what happened with you?”
there’s a part of you that wants to find solidarity in this man. that perhaps he understands the pain you’re going through deep within your soul. after waking up from your coma three days ago, you feel sure the grief is going to eat you alive. you don’t want to hate the world, become evil and angry. you also don’t know how to not.
you get this blonde man blinking at you. a silence takes up the room quickly but you give him all the space in the world to speak.
“what d’you mean what happened to me? you think i have a sad tragic backstory like those american game show contestants?”
now you’re frowning back at him. you don’t understand that reference. “don’t you? or you’re just pissy for no reason?”
it feels like a weird competition now, that he should have something under his belt. something odd and sadistic to impress you with. bakugou bites.
“i died when i was sixteen. i fought a war and died.”
you’re not impressed. “how are you here now? i didn’t know this world has magic—,”
bakugou shakes his head, “nah not magic. another… another hero here fixed me up. brought me back.”
“oh,” you trail off, “and you’re fine now?”
he is. though it seems as if you’re looking for more. he deals with villain attacks often. fights them with his friends. he hasn’t been close to death since. he lives a wealthy luxury lifestyle now he’s professional and he’s got all his friends around him. all his greatest traumas he’s working through in therapy. yes, he goes therapy.
you keep talking, “you’ve got both your parents? all your friends?”
“y-yeah i do? i answered your question, didn’t i?” he spits.
you roll your lips in.
“are you… are you laughin’ at me again?”
at that your dam breaks, giggles spilling out. your shoulders shake and your hand covers your mouth in an attempt to be polite. though you lost that once you had to use the toilet beside your bed being recorded by security.
j“no, well yes! i don’t know, i thought you had a tragic backstory to explain your shitty attitude. guess it’s just you.”
bakugou’s walls go straight up. he doesn’t know who the hell you think you are to read him so easily. because yeah, maybe he is just a dick. but he owns it. he’s apologised for his mistakes in the past. he doesn’t hold all his worth to his quirk anymore and he doesn’t blame himself for anyone’s death. he’s actually quite well adjusted now.
“okay, so the fuck is your problem? why’re you on earth? where’s home? where’s your family? they just send you here and can’t be bothered to get you outta ‘earth jail’?” he snaps.
that slows your laughter down, your grin is the last thing to drop before pain shakes your heart. it’s a harsh squeeze that doesn’t let up.
“you’re not getting all of that out of me in one day. see you tomorrow, dynamight.” you’ve got nobody to come get you.
bakugou hates how he likes the sound of that. another day, a reason to see you again. he’s got a whole load of questions to ask you but he’s got to get back to his other tasks for the day.
“fine, if that’s what you want.” he begins to rise to his feet. he’s too petty to be somewhat nice. “y’know if you cooperate we can send you home.”
you look up at bakugou, hugging your knees to your chest on the hard concrete floor. “i don’t have a home anymore.”
bakugou stands still, mouth open to speak but nothing right is about to come out. until there’s a rough knock on the door, one of the jail guards.
“you okay, dynamight? times up unless you need more?”
bakugou doesn’t take his eyes off you, now back to your original position with your forehead on your knees. he won’t be surprised if you move to fetal position once he’s gone.
“i’ll be back tomorrow, yn.”
you don’t bother replying to him but you hear his thick boots walk out.
as soon as bakugou steps out the door, the guard pipes up.
“we saw she was speaking to you on cams! the alien’s gorgeous, isn’t she? doesn’t look like no damn alien either. what was she saying?”
the first thing bakugou does is shove the man away. “down my fuckin’ neck. i’m not sayin’ shit to you. who runs this place?”
in about an hour, you’re pulled out of your cell to a new room. one with a bedframe for your mattress, a pencil and a pad of paper. most especially, the toilet is in a separate room to your cell. you’re especially grateful when they remove your handcuff bracelets and don’t lock new ones on.
there’s no chance you’re going to thank dynamight for giving you your basic rights. you appreciate the changes to your new home though.

He'd mutter under his breath, two hands wrapped around the skinny twig of a willow tree prepared to snap it in two. He sounded half-joking as he spoke the wish, embarrassed that he's desperate enough to try wishing for your love instead of asking you out like a normal person.
But if there was even a slight chance it would work, he'd do it. He'd do anything for you.
A snap. The 'one wish willow' broke apart in his hands. Two smaller pieces now in his grasp promising him that his wish would come true.

Obsessed ( pun intended ) with the idea of a yandere x reader fanfic with the same plot as Obsession and y/n brings the horror/yandere part instead of whoever the character is :')
a/n: I have no business thinking of demon Katsuki/witch Reader after watching Kpop Demon Hunters, and getting ideas involving an heirloom mirror Reader gets from her mom, and in which Katsuki is trapped, when I'm supposed to draft the last chapter of the Katsuki/sort of mafia reader short fic I've been sitting on since the end of June.
I'll take that as a sign to finally post the snippet I wanted to from that fic.

His traitorous heart skipped.
There you were, lethal beauty with a heart refined by violence, blood thirst and corruption, and a broken brain made to rule, seduce and trick. You blew on the tip of your gun’s silencer, dissipating the lingering smoke, your feline gaze on him. Dizziness overtook his senses, but for a different reason than the stinking corpse bleeding on him.
“I see you got yourself in a little pinch, Katsuki,” you said, that voice of yours teasing the darkest parts of him. He was already imagining how he’d pin you to the first wall by the throat and become the reason your timbre changed.
“Fuck off.”
You licked your lips and chuckled like a devil, striding forward. Your thin-heeled boots sounded like a clock counting down to his next mistake. Kicking the dead man off him, you loosened the belt holding together your coat and crouched down, your sweater dress riding up your thighs still marked by his teeth.
“Sorry my father’s dogs came after you,” you said, running the silencer over his streaked cheek, hot from the bullet you had put in the fucker’s brain. Katsuki grimaced, hating the look in your eyes. So adoring. So reverent. Like he was the deity you pledged your rotten soul to. “I’m having a fight with him.”
“Do I look like I care?” He jerked his head away from the metal’s touch. “Hell am I bein’ involved in your shit for, huh?”
You pressed the side of the gun to your temple and tapped to a slow tempo. “He’s trying to marry me off to some loser.”
Marry you…off?
Katsuki strained against the restraints designed specifically for him, something vile fueling the hot rage blazing through his veins. His muscles burned, but the cuffs around his hands and feet didn’t even creak.
“You refused,” he gritted through clenched teeth.
“Obviously,” you scoffed, watching the show his body put forth for a moment before you reached into your cleavage and took out a small card. “I need my freedom so I can keep riding my enemy’s cock. I think my father figured that part out, though.”
“He knows about us?”
“Maybe.”
Cuffs unlocked, Katsuki jumped to his feet and yanked you up, shoving you toward the musky wall. His body followed, caging you in like a threat. You gasped.
“How?” His mouth went to your neck, licking hungrily at the skin, while his hand crept over yours holding the gun. He took it and tossed it aside.
“I don’t know.” You craned your neck to give him more access to your pulse he’d mark. “And I don’t care. Fuck me?”

He hated you, and it consumed him.
Then
He read the file and set off with certain expectations in mind. To find you, the daughter of some rich guy, kidnapped by a group of scumbags for ransom. Well-educated, soft spoken, prim appearance, reserved attitude—these were the descriptors he associated with you after watching some of your public appearances.
That was what he was supposed to find. A woman terrified, teary-eyed, pleading to not be hurt.
Katsuki’s breath came out in heavy bursts as he froze, feet rooted to the fallen warehouse door he had blasted off. Shock he’d never experienced before choked him.
He found you, the alleged damsel in dire need of saving, covered in blood. The blood of your enemies.

Empty laughter burst from your split lips. “Well, fuck. They sent Dynamight to rescue weak little me?”

CHAPTER 2 ( <- prev | next -> ) masterlist
The transition from "guest" to "high-value asset" happened the moment Azula left the room. The atmosphere in the stronghold shifted from quiet reverence to a frantic, military precision. Noa could hear the heavy clanking of armor in the hallways and the sharp, barked orders of officers. She wasn't just being watched anymore; she was being prepared.
She spent the next morning sitting on the edge of the oversized bed, staring at the tray of food the servants had brought. It was a bowl of congee topped with sliced salted duck and a side of fire berries. She picked at it with the ivory chopsticks she was still learning to handle, her mind racing.
I need to remember, she pleaded with herself. I’m in a fortress. I’m being interrogated. Ozai is interested in me.
She knew from her fragmented memories of the show that Fire Lord Ozai was a man of cold, calculated ambition. He didn't believe in "spirits" out of religious piety; he believed in them as tools. If the Sages told him she was a goddess, he would weigh that claim against her usefulness. If she couldn't bend fire, she had to provide something else: legitimacy.
The door groaned open, and a man entered who Noa hadn't seen before. He wasn't a Sage, and he wasn't a soldier. He wore dark, scholarly robes and carried a scroll case. Behind him, two guards stood like statues.
"I am Warden Qin," the man said, his voice flat and academic. He didn't bow. He sat at the low table across from her and unrolled a sheet of parchment. "I have been tasked with recording the 'Celestial History' of the Star-Fallen. Let us begin with your origins. Which spirit realm do you hail from? The Great Bridge? The Fog of Lost Souls?"
Noa looked at him, her green eyes steady despite the tremor in her hands. She had decided on a strategy during her sleepless night: the truth, but limited.
"I don't know what those places are," she said. "I come from a place called Connecticut. It’s... very far away. There are no benders there. No spirits that I've seen. Just people."
Qin’s brush paused over the parchment. He looked up, his eyes narrow. "A realm without bending? Impossible. Even the air you breathe is fueled by the balance of the elements. To suggest a world without them is to suggest a world without life."
"Well, we have life," Noa countered, leaning forward. "We have technology. We have cars and planes and... and the internet. We don't need to move fire with our hands because we have machines to do it for us."
The Warden’s expression didn't change, but he scribbled something down. "Delusions of a displaced mind," he muttered to himself. Then, louder: "And your appearance? Your hair is the color of the sun's core, yet your eyes are the color of the Earth Kingdom's dirt. Explain the contradiction."
"It's just genetics!" Noa exclaimed, frustration bubbling over. "My mom has blonde hair, my dad has green eyes. It’s not a spiritual omen, it’s just... biology."
Qin leaned back, a small, condescending smile touching his lips. "The Sages say you fell from the stars during the alignment. They say the fires in the ritual chamber bowed to you. You claim to be 'nothing,' yet you appear in the heart of our nation at the exact moment we seek the final victory. Do you realize how unlikely that is, Noa?"
He said her name like it was a foreign word, something bitter on his tongue.
"I realize it’s a mistake," she said quietly. "You summoned something you didn't understand, and you got me. I'm not going to help you win a war. I don't even know how to fight."
"We shall see," Qin said, rolling up his scroll. "The Fire Lord is not a patient man. He sees the 'Agni’s Favor' as a sign that the throne of the Fire Nation is destined to rule the entire world. If you are truly a girl from a world of machines, you are a curiosity. But if you are what the Sages believe... you are the key to the Earth Kingdom's surrender."
He stood to leave, but paused at the door. "A word of advice. Do not mention your 'machines' to the High Sages. They prefer the version where you are a silent, glowing deity. It’s much easier to market a goddess to the masses than a confused teenager in strange clothes."
When he left, the silence that followed was heavier than before. Noa walked to the balcony, clutching the red silk of her sleeves. She looked out at the jagged coastline. Somewhere out there, the "Gaang" was moving. She hoped they were coming because that was how the story worked, but for the first time, she felt the terrifying weight of being the plot point.
She wasn't just watching the screen anymore. She was the reason the Avatar maybe was heading toward a Fire Nation trap.
"I'm sorry, Aang," she whispered to the salt air. "I'm so sorry, I'm making this harder for you."
As the sun began to set, casting long, bloody shadows across the obsidian floor, Noa noticed something she hadn't seen before. On the wall near the bed, carved into the stone behind a tapestry, was a small, faded symbol. It wasn't Fire Nation. It was a circle with three swirls, the symbol of the Air Nomads.
A cold shiver ran down her spine. This fortress wasn't just a prison; it was built on the ruins of something older. Something the Fire Nation had destroyed.
She pressed her hand against the cold stone, feeling the faint indentations. She wasn't the first "visitor" to be held in these mountains. But as the distant roar of a dragon-hawk echoed through the spires, she realized she might be the last one the Fire Lord ever let go.
The air in the stronghold grew colder as the sun dipped below the volcanic horizon, but the tension within the walls only simmered hotter. Noa had spent the afternoon trying to make sense of the Air Nomad symbol she’d found. It was a haunting reminder that this world had a history of erasing what it couldn't control.
She was startled from her thoughts by the sound of heavy, rhythmic footsteps, different from the Sages’ shuffle or the guards’ march. These were the steps of someone who owned the ground they walked upon.
The doors swung open, and the room seemed to shrink. Two guards entered first, carrying a tall, ornate mirror made of polished silver. They set it down in the center of the room and retreated without a word. Then, a man stepped into the light of the braziers.
He wasn't the Fire Lord, at least not in person. Ozai rarely left the capital. But this was his image, projected through a sophisticated arrangement of mirrors and fire-bending that Noa did not remember from the show. A "Fire-Projection." The flames in the room’s hearth flared high, turning a brilliant, blinding white-gold, and within the heat stood the silhouette of Fire Lord Ozai.
Even as a flickering projection, his presence was suffocating. His golden crown-piece caught the light, and his eyes, though made of flame and shadow, felt like they were piercing through Noa’s very soul.
"The Star-Fallen," Ozai’s voice boomed, resonant and devoid of warmth. "The Sages speak of a miracle. They say you arrived when the heavens wept light."
Noa stood her ground, though her knees felt like water. She remembered what she had told Azula. She had to be a "variable." "They call it a miracle because they don't have a word for an accident, Fire Lord," she said, her voice steadier than she felt.
The flames of the projection flickered. "An accident? There are no accidents in the path of the Phoenix King. My ancestors spent generations seeking the power to bend the world to its knees. And now, as the Great Comet approaches, the stars themselves deliver a witness to my glory."
He stepped closer within the flames, his gaze lingering on her blonde hair. "You look like the legends of the Sun's daughter. To my people, you are the physical manifestation of Agni’s favor. To my enemies, you are the proof that their gods have abandoned them."
"I'm not a witness to anything," Noa countered. "I'm just a girl from a world where your 'glory' is just a story on a screen. You're a man, Ozai. Just a man with a lot of fire."
The room went deathly silent. A guard at the door made a sharp, stifled sound of horror. Ozai, however, did not roar with rage. He let out a low, chilling chuckle that vibrated in Noa’s chest.
"A story on a screen? More of your 'machine world' riddles. Warden Qin thinks you are mad. Azula thinks you are a nuisance. But I see the truth. You are afraid. You cling to your common origins because the alternative, that you are a divine tool, is too great a burden for a child to carry."
He turned away, his silhouette growing taller in the firelight. "It does not matter what you believe. I will marry you into the royal line. You will stand beside my child when he returns and legitimize the final conquest of Ba Sing Se. The world will see the Golden Spirit of the Sun wedded to the House of Fire, and the war will end not with a whimper, but with a prayer."
"I'll never do that," Noa whispered, horror dawning on her. He wanted to use her to create a "divine" bloodline. It was sick. It was worse than just being a prisoner.
"You will," Ozai said, his voice fading as the flames began to die down. "The spirit always submits to the flame. It is the natural order."
The fire snapped back to a low orange glow, and the projection vanished. Noa was left alone in the dim room, her heart racing. She realized she didn't have months. She didn't even have weeks. Ozai was a man of action, and he was already weaving her into his nightmare.
While Noa trembled in her silk-lined cell, the world outside was beginning to tilt.
In a dense forest on the edge of the Fire Nation’s coastal territories, Team Avatar had set up a makeshift camp. Sokka was hunched over a series of charcoal sketches, his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth in deep concentration.
"Okay, look," Sokka said, pointing his stick at a drawing that looked vaguely like a lopsided castle. "This is the Serpent’s Head Stronghold. It’s built into a cliffside. High security, lots of pointy things, and according to the locals, it’s currently housing a 'Golden Goddess' who eats starlight for breakfast."
"Sokka, she's probably just a prisoner," Katara said, packing her water pouch. "The Fire Nation loves to blow things out of proportion to scare people."
"But what if she's a spirit, Katara?" Aang asked, looking up from where he was practicing his earthbending stances with Toph. "If the Fire Nation is hurting a spirit, the whole world is out of balance. I can feel it... the air around that place feels heavy."
Toph grunted, kicking a rock into the air and shattering it with a precise punch. "I don't know about spirits, but I know about the ground. There's a lot of metal in that fortress. A lot. It’s going to be tough to sneak in without being felt. She is very guarded."
"That's because it's a spirit!" Aang insisted. "We have to get her out. If the Fire Lord thinks she can help him win the war, we can't let him keep her."
"Plus," Sokka added, his eyes gleaming with tactical fervor, "if she is a goddess, maybe she can give us some inside info. Or at least a blessing. I could really use a 'Blessing of Not Getting Stuck in Holes' right about now."
Aang looked at his friends, his expression turning solemn. "We leave tonight. We’ll use the cover of the new moon. Katara, you and Sokka handle the lower gates. Toph and I will go through the upper spires. We find the spirit, we get out, and we don't look back."
As they began to break camp, Appa let out a low, uneasy groan. The giant sky bison tossed his head, his dark eyes fixed on the distant, glowing peaks of the Fire Nation. He felt it too, a ripple in the sky that shouldn't be there.
Back in the fortress, Noa reached into her pocket. She had managed to hide one thing from the Sages when they took her clothes: a small, plastic hair tie. She gripped it tightly, the mundane object a tether to her reality.
"I'm not a goddess," she whispered into the dark, her green eyes reflecting the dying embers of the hearth. "I'm just a variable. And it's time to change the equation."
She didn't see the shadow that passed by her window, a shape larger than a bird, silhouetted against the moonless sky. The rescue was coming, but so was something else. In the dark corners of the room, the violet light on her discarded clothes flared one last time before vanishing completely, leaving a faint, lingering smell of ozone in the air.
Night fell over the Serpent’s Head Stronghold with a heavy, suffocating darkness. In the higher altitudes of the Fire Nation’s volcanic peaks, the wind didn't just blow; it shrieked through the jagged spires like a wounded animal.
Noa couldn't sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Ozai’s flickering silhouette in the flames, heard his cold decree of a forced marriage, and felt the crushing weight of a destiny that wasn't hers. She stood by the balcony, her hands gripping the cold iron bars. The red silk of her robe felt like a heavy shroud.
"I’m just a girl from the suburbs," she whispered to the wind. "I’m supposed to be worrying about SAT scores and what to wear to prom, not legitimate 'divine rule' for a global conqueror."
She looked down. The drop was hundreds of feet into a churning sea that broke against razor-sharp rocks. To her left, she could see the glow of the lower garrison where hundreds of soldiers were stationed. To her right, the sheer face of the volcano. There was no way out. Not for a non-bender.
Suddenly, a sound broke through the whistling wind. It wasn't the clank of armor or the chime of a Sage’s bell. It was a soft, rhythmic thump-thump. Like the beating of giant wings.
Noa leaned her head against the bars, her green eyes straining to see through the gloom. For a moment, she saw a shape, a massive, white shadow moving against the dark clouds. Her heart leapt into her throat. Appa?
But the shape vanished as quickly as it appeared, swallowed by the mist.
"I’m hallucinating," she muttered, rubbing her eyes. "I’ve finally snapped."
Below the main spires, nestled in the shadows of the outer wall, three figures moved with the synchronized grace of experienced hunters.
"Okay, the vibration is definitely coming from the top tower," Toph whispered, her bare feet planted firmly on a narrow stone ledge. "But the guards are thick as flies. I can feel at least twenty in the corridor directly below the 'Spirit’s' room."
Aang adjusted his staff, his eyes fixed on the balcony far above. "I'll go up the outside. Katara, Sokka, you guys create the distraction at the western gate like we planned. Toph, stay with them, if they get cornered, you’re the only one who can move the walls."
"Be careful, Aang," Katara said, her hand resting briefly on his shoulder. "If the Fire Lord thinks she’s a goddess, they’ll have the elite guards up there."
Aang nodded, his expression grimmer than usual. He opened his glider, the red wings snapping into place. With a sudden burst of airbending, he shot upward, a silent arrow aimed at the heart of the fortress.
Sokka watched him go, then turned to the girls. "Right. Operation: Goddess-Grab is a go. Remember, if things get hairy, use the 'Sokka-Style' tactical retreat."
"You mean running away screaming?" Toph smirked.
"I prefer to call it 'Extending the Battlefield,'" Sokka retorted, though his hand gripped the hilt of his club tightly.
In her room, Noa felt a sudden change in the air pressure. The candles in the braziers flickered wildly, then went out. The room was plunged into darkness, save for the faint orange glow of the distant lava flows.
A faint clink sounded from the balcony.
Noa backed away, her breath hitching. "Who's there? Azula? If you're back to burn more of my hair, I'm telling your dad!"
A silhouette vaulted over the railing, landing silently on the obsidian floor. The figure stood up, and for a heartbeat, Noa saw the glint of a staff. Then, the figure stepped into a patch of moonlight.
A boy. He wore orange and yellow robes, and a blue arrow was tattooed across his forehead. He looked younger than she expected: small, lithe, and radiating an energy that made the very air in the room feel lighter.
Noa froze. She knew him. She had seen him on a screen a thousand times. But seeing him in the flesh, breathing the same air, was different.
"I'm Aang," the boy said softly, holding out a hand. "I'm the Avatar. Are you the spirit everyone’s talking about?"
Noa stared at him, her mouth hanging open. She tried to speak, but her voice failed her. This was the moment. This was the rescue.
"I... I'm Noa," she finally managed to squeak out.
Aang walked closer, his brow furrowing as he looked at her blonde hair and her modern-styled green eyes. He tilted his head, sniffing the air. "You don't look like a spirit," he noted, sounding confused. "You look like... you. I mean you have weird hair: It’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong. I mean… And you don't have a spiritual aura. You feel... human."
"I am human!" Noa hissed, moving toward him. "I've been trying to tell them that for days! Please, you have to get me out of here. The Fire Lord wants to marry me to his son or some noble, and the Sages think I’m a battery for their war!"
Aang’s eyes widened. "Marry you? That’s terrible! Don't worry, Noa. I promised I'd help any spirit in need, and even if you're just a girl from... wherever you're from, I'm not leaving you here."
Outside, a loud explosion rocked the fortress. The sound of bells began to scream, a frantic, rhythmic alarm.
"That's my friends," Aang said, gripping his staff. "We have to go, now!"
He grabbed Noa’s hand. His grip was warm and solid, a stark contrast to the cold rocks of the prison. He pulled her toward the balcony, but just as they reached the edge, the main doors of the chamber burst open.
Warden Qin stood there, flanked by six Imperial Firebenders. Their hands were already raised, tongues of flame licking at their fingertips.
"The Avatar!" Qin shouted, his face twisting in a mask of triumph. "The Fire Lord was right! The Golden Spirit was the perfect bait!"
Noa looked at Aang, then at the soldiers, then at the terrifying drop behind her. "Hold on tight!" Aang yelled, swinging her toward his back.
"Wait!" Noa shouted, but Aang didn't see it. He jumped.
As they plummeted into the dark, Noa’s scream was lost in the roar of the wind. The rescue had succeeded, but the "Golden Spirit" was now the most wanted person in two worlds. And as Noa clung to the back of the boy who could bend the elements, she realized her journey had only just begun.
What if you were Zuko and Azula's mother? Would Azula have been different? Would Zuko be friends with Aang earlier than he intended?
Imagine how different Zuko and especially Azula would be because you—Princess of the Fire Nation!Reader is their mother.
They grew up with your presence, guidance, and love that eventually resulted in them being more like you rather than being similar to their father—your husband, then Prince Ozai.
Although your boundless love and affection spoiled the children rotten—filling their early years with laughter, maternal warmth, and a softness rarely seen in the Fire Nation royal lineage, it did not shield them from the brutal realities of being Prince Ozai’s children.
Imagine the day of your family’s coronation when Fire Lord Azulon suspiciously and suddenly passes away one strange night and how the last royal decree was that your husband shall be crowned Fire Lord, leaving Iroh on his military position for he did not have an heir.
Imagine how the whole day you couldn’t help but feel nauseous. Something in your gut tells you that something ominous is bound to happen—you did jot know when, and you certainly did not know to who, but to feel safe, you kept your children near you.
“Mom, why do you look so scared? We should be celebrating! Dad is the Fire Lord now!”
“Azula! Keep your voice down! Grandfather just passed away this week…!”
The contrast between your children was night and day, it was clear how your first child was much more soft than the other. Your second born was filled with much fierce at a young age that her older brother could not achieve yet.
The divide between the two of them always made your heart ache with a mixture of pride and worry.
Imagine looking down at Zuko, whose wide, golden eyes were already swimming with a quiet, reverent grief for his grandfather. He was so gentle, so deeply empathetic, holding onto your hand with a soft but desperate grip.
Then you look at Azula. She was a bit of a mischievous kid, puffed up with a sense of royal pride, unable to fully grasp the gravity of death over the sheer excitement of her father's new status.
But you also knew how much worse Azula could have been.
Without your constant, unyielding love, your gentle guidance, and your infinite patience, she would have easily succumbed to Ozai’s cold, ruthless molding.
She could have been a someone who not only hated the world, but her own self as well.
Instead, because you always validated her, showered her with affection, and taught her to understand her own heavy emotions, her "bratty" nature was just a shield.
Underneath it all, she was much nicer, much softer than she let the world see. She was trying to be kind. She was genuinely trying, all because she loved you.
Imagine the overwhelming weight of the day suddenly crashing down on you. The heavy, ornate Fire Lady crown felt like a lead weight pressing into your skull, a physical manifestation of the target now painted on your back. The palace walls felt like they were closing in, you knew the court politics, and you knew that far too many powerful people were already siding with Ozai, eagerly feeding his ambition.
You had to be so careful. Every word, every breath, was dangerous now and you desperately wanted to shield your children from it.
Unable to take the suffocating air of the main hall any longer, you quietly pull both of your children into a secluded, shadowed corner of the corridor, away from prying eyes and whispering ministers.
You drop to your knees so you are at eye level with them, your heavy robes pooling around you. Your voice is a frantic, quiet whisper as you hold their small hands. You can't tell them the truth—that their grandfather was murdered, that their father is a tyrant—so you give them the only anchor you can.
"Listen to me," you whisper, your eyes searching theirs with a desperate intensity. "No matter what changes in this palace… no matter what happens from this day forward… just keep your hearts good, okay?"
Before they can even question the vague, heavy words, you leaned forward to press a tender, lingering kiss to Zuko’s forehead. He relaxes instantly under your touch, melting into your warmth.
Right on cue, you hear a sharp, dramatic huff from your right. You look over to see Azula crossing her arms, her lower lip jutting out in a classic, jealous pout. She wants your undivided attention, always.
She did not know what you saw so special in Zuko. You treated both of them fairly, but Azula couldn't help but yearn for something that she already has.
But before you can soothe her, a cold, booming voice echoes down the hall. Ozai was calling for Zuko.
Zuko stiffens, a flash of anxiety crossing his face. You gently pat his shoulder, giving him a reassuring, grounding squeeze. Go on, your touch says. Zuko swallows his fear, nods bravely to you, and then turns to shoot a small, encouraging smile at his sister—a silent thank you to her for letting him have that first hug.
They may fight a lot with Azula being the one to initiate the sibling banters, but as an older brother, Zuko always cared for Azula—just as how you taught him.
The moment Zuko walks away, you turn your full attention to your jealous little girl. With a soft chuckle that momentarily chases away your nausea, you lean in and kiss Azula’s cheek.
She tries to keep her face rigid and grumpy, but you know her too well. You lean in and kiss her other cheek even more dramatically.
Twice. Because she’s a fiercely possessive kid who needs to know she is loved just as much, if not more.
Imagine the bratty facade completely crumbling. Azula doesn't pull away. Instead, she throws her small arms around your neck, burying her face into your shoulder in a tight, desperate hug.
She might be arrogant, she might be a handful, but in your arms, she is just a little girl trying her absolute best to be the daughter you can be proud of.
As you hold her tight against the gathering storm, you pray it will be enough from the ominous gut feeling stirring inside you.
Imagine realizing that the ominous feeling you tried so hard to forget had happened right in front of your eyes when you heard of the Agni Kai between your husband and your son.
You fall to your knees before Ozai, abandoning all royal decorum to beg, plead, and scream for the life and face of your son. But Ozai’s heart is stone.
"You can't do that!" your voice raises at him, in fact you have been yelling at Ozai for several minutes now from the anger, the disappointment, the fear of losing Zuko—it was too much. "I'll go with him. If you banish your son, I will follow him! I will take Azula, I'll go with my childr—"
Ozai moved with blinding speed, cutting you off as he grabs your upper arms. He doesn't want to break you—in his own twisted, possessive way, he claims to love you—but his grip is brutal, crushing enough to guarantee dark bruises by tomorrow.
"Zuko brought this upon himself." Ozai scoffs, his tone entirely dismissive of your grief. "His banishment is a direct consequence of his weakness. In fact, I was kind enough to spare his life and grant him a path to return. He may come back once he captures the Avatar."
A fresh wave of tears spills over your cheeks, your heart shattering for your son who had just turned 13 years old, because you know the truth—the Avatar has been gone for a hundred years. It is an impossible task. A lifetime sentence of exile masked as mercy.
"And you will not touch Azula." Ozai commands, his voice dropping to a low whisper against your ear. He knows you too well. He knows you love both children deeply and fairly, and he uses that absolute devotion to trap you. "If you step foot out of this palace, you leave her behind forever. I will make sure she forgets your face."
You choke on a sob, but his grip only tightens, forcing you to look at him.
"Think of your family in the provinces, too. They enjoy a very peaceful life under my reign. It would be a tragic shame if an... accidental fire were to consume everything they own."
"You wouldn't dare," you weep, trembling violently. "Ozai, you wouldn't dare." Your eyebrows were knotted together as more tears began to spill.
Ozai pulled you flush against his chest, his golden eyes turning into dark, merciless slits as his smile sharpens. "Test my patience and you’ll see what happens."
From that day on, you had given up on the fantasy of learning to love Ozai for the sake of your children.
Imagine standing on the harbor docks, the bitter sea wind whipping against your face as you watch the ship carry your broken, boy away into the endless ocean.
A tiny fraction of your shattered heart finds comfort knowing Iroh is by his side, but it does nothing to ease the pain ripping through your chest as the vessel grows smaller and smaller.
A few minutes ago, you were asking Zuko not to cry while crying yourself. You did not want him to feel the sting on his injured side of his face, a reminder of his father’s own cruelty.
You told Zuko that no matter what, you will find a way to get him back. You did not know how or what to even do, but as a mother, you were willing to do everything to get your son back in your arms.
Now, here you were unable to bear the pain as you watched Zuko’s ship disappear into the ocean.
Behind you, Azula gently takes your trembling hand, her fingers wrapping around yours in a rare, quiet attempt to anchor you to the shore as you weep for the son you cannot follow.
Imagine falling into a deep, suffocating depression in the weeks that follow, becoming a ghost within your own palace walls.
As the years bleed together, Azula watches your sorrow with a complicated, bitterness-part of her fiercely resents Zuko for being the sole cause of your constant heartbreak, while another secret, buried part of her aches because she misses her brother, too.
Imagine pouring every single ounce of your remaining, desperate love entirely onto Azula, smothering her with the affection and warmth you can no longer give your son.
You look at Azula through the mirror while you brushed her hair.
“Mom?” Azula asked, shifting slightly under your touch. She looked confused, catching your intense gaze in the reflection. She didn't really mind the staring, but the heavy silence in the room was making her uneasy.
Without a word, you set the brush down, leaned forward, and wrapped your arms tightly around her shoulders, burying your face in her hair. Azula stiffened for a second. She knew that look on your face—she knew the exact weight of the sadness you carried every single day since Zuko left.
"Is it my grades at the academy?" Azula asked quickly, her voice dropping as she looked down at her lap. "Did I disappoint you?"
"No," you said immediately, squeezing her tighter to chase away her doubts. "No, sweetheart, never. I am so, so proud of you."
You fell silent again, just holding her close, trying to absorb the comfort of having her near.
Azula relaxed against your chest. She raised her small arms, wrapping them around your neck to hug you back.
"Don't worry, Mom," she whispered into your shoulder, her grip tightening. "I'm not going away too."
Even if one child remain by your side, while the other was thousands of miles away, your heart still yearned for Zuko.
You spend hours writing letters to him, sending them out into the dark even though they rarely reach him and on the rare, precious days a reply finally makes it back to your hands, a spark of happiness returns to your eyes, and Azula watches you smile, quietly resolving to keep trying her best to be the daughter who keeps you whole.
Azula did not know until when this would last. A part of her wishes that somehow… somehow Zuko comes back, but for her own sake, a selfish part of Azula wanted this moment to last forever.
Imagine Zuko standing on the icy deck of his ship in the freezing waters of the South Pole, carefully unfolding a worn, heavily creased letter from home.
His thumb brushes over your familiar handwriting, a stark contrast to the fresh, angry burn tissue tracing his eye. He is desperate, angry, and fiercely determined to hunt down the Avatar to regain his honor—not just to appease the cold father who burned him, but to finally return to you.
As the ship cuts through the freezing waters, Zuko folds the letter away, his gaze hardening as he looks toward the horizon.
The memory of your gentle touch is the only thing keeping his anger from consuming him entirely, leaving open the terrifying question of whether he will become a ruthless hunter like his father to get back to you, or if your lessons on kindness will save his soul when he finally faces the avatar.
a/n: this was sitting on my drafts for TOO LONG. the idea behind this was something like “what if azula was given the love she wanted? i kinda want to write that…” and BAM i even forgot i wrote this and existed 😭

You wake up groggy somewhere clean and classy.
The ceiling is tall, the furniture expensive—marble floors and Egyptian sheets—and none of it is any familiar whatsoever.
“Hello?” you call out, despite not seeing or hearing the hints of anyone, clutching the comforter to yourself with eyes still adjusting, blinking as you take everything in, getting more concerned as you do.
Did you get fucked up yesterday or what?
Surely not so fucked up you can’t remember booking yourself into a five-star hotel, right?
And yet, by the looks of it, you must have.
It should be more concerning, and yet, “Please, God, don’t let it be in my name,” is the prioritized thought. You’re so broke, you couldn’t even afford a fucking motel room right now, let alone whatever the fuck kind of grand suite this is.
You get up, only then noticing you’re dressed in a silk night gown—which only further distresses you with thoughts about the bill. Clothes nowhere in sight—at least not anything you can recognize as your own. But, laying on the dresser is a pretty little number, with a tiny little note on top.
“Wear me,” you read out loud. Face puzzled with a grimace, before further talking to yourself out loud, mumbling, “What the fuck Alice in Wonderland type shit is this? Did I go home with a freak?”
Confused as shit, you leave the dress where it is while looking around some more. The more you do, you start noticing things that make you start thinking this might be someone's house rather than a hotel room.
Walking into what you thought might be a bathroom, you discover a walk-in closet instead. Fully stocked with clothes. Expensive shit. Classy. And a little creepy, how it’s all solely in different shades of red. Your pajamas too, and the dress laid out. Someone must have a serious preference.
“Where the fuck am I at right now…”
Starting to freak out just a bit, you don’t try any more doors in favor of quickly finding the stairs. Soft in your step, you make your way down them warily. And on your way, you start hearing the tell-tale noise of another’s presence.
Cooking noises—pots and pans and the sound of a whirring fan. It smells good too.
You don’t think he—whoever he is—notices you. But standing with his back to you, shirtless, you sure notice him. He’s got broad shoulders and a toned back stocked with muscles, his waist snatched in a black apron. Hair dyed baby pink of all colors.
Yeah… you definitely got fucked up yesterday because who the fuck is this guy?
You decide against sticking around to find out. One-night-stands are only made weirder when they progress into the day thereafter, and you think you might just be able to make your way over to the door without being heard if you tip-toe it.
You throw it a glance from where you’re hiding around the corner. You can’t spot any shoes.
Shit, how’re you supposed to—
“Door’s locked,” the man informs over his shoulder, switching off the fan before turning around. He then walks up to the breakfast bar placed in the forefront of the kitchen, tray in hand full with a arrangement of bacon, eggs, juice and other morning classics.
He sets out two plates before sitting down.
He’s got face-tattoos—crazy ones that would be impossible not to notice. And yet, crazy as they are, they seem somewhat familiar. His hair is newly washed, hanging in curly bangs just above a pair of eyes that lean more toward the burn in auburn, but are all in all jaded as he starts eating without further acknowledging you.
“I’m sorry—” you squeak as you pop out of hiding, suddenly reminded of how you're still just standing there. “Sneaking out’s not usually my style, but–” A nervous laugh only seems appropriate as you start explaining yourself with theoretic excuses, “I must have taken something weird yesterday ‘cause I don’t remember how I got here at all. I don’t even remember going out—”
“You were on your way home from that shitty burger joint you work at,” he says, mouth full of toasted bread. “I took the liberty of burning your uniform. It was an offence to the art of cuisine.”
You’d just taken a seat on the opposite side of him, having accepted the awkward morning for what it was worth—a funny story for later, you’re sure. However, while the food is a good distraction, making your mouth water and your eyes wander, it’s not enough for you to disregard the unattended confusion left by your utter blackout of the night prior—and neither is his sloppy efforts of helping you navigate it.
“I’m sorry, what?”
He, on the other hand, seems more interested in the food, negligent when explaining, “I laid out a dress for you. I won’t force you to wear it, but you won’t be getting that retched thing you were wearing back, so you might as well—”
“Yeah, no, whatever—” you dismiss, shaking your head with a muddled expression—as if your uniform is the thing on your mind right now. “That doesn’t really explain how I got here?”
Again, helping you with your amnesia doesn’t seem to be too much of a priority to the man as he shrugs with a “There isn’t much to know.”
For all his looks, he doesn’t really have the charm to compliment them. What a shame, you think disappointedly to yourself, watching him with a wrinkle between your brows, wondering why and when chivalry died, and why on earth you’d ever choose to go home with a guy so lacking in it.
“You finished your shift and were on your way home,” he continues, and you’re glad to finally be getting somewhere. “But you never made it, because, while still in the parking lot, I knocked you out with some chloroform, put you in my trunk, and took you here.”
Yeah, that’s the point your throat closes shut.
“What?”
A shiver rushes through you and you get out of your chair. Was that a joke? What, is he a fucking comedian suddenly?
“What the fuck’s going on?!”
He doesn’t acknowledge your hysteria, still just sitting there, eating breakfast as though a woman screaming at him is just another day in his life.
“Do I have to spell it out for you? It’s easy. I kidnapped you. End of story.”
Your mouth hangs open, staring at him, but alas, with the same lack of urgency as he’d had since the beginning, he just ignores your state of shock like it’s something he can’t be bothered to deal with.
Instead, ordering you to “Now come. Sit. Eat,” as if that was more important than explaining himself. “Your system’s still full of chemicals. Gotta eat to flush ‘em out.”
Is he seriously asking you to eat breakfast?
“No drugs this time. Promise,” he adds shortly, as though you’d had the time to form the concern, while still busy trying to make sense of him offering breakfast in the first place after having confessed to kidnapping you.
The more you repeat it, the less sense it seems to make.
“And before you get any wild ideas. No, I’m not going to force myself on you either. That’s not the reason you’re here.”
Yet another thought that hadn’t had the time to cross your mind.
Just a short moment ago, you’d thought this whole thing was a drunk one-night-stand and now you’re learning that not even one part of that was true. Your brain isn’t able to keep up with the new reality, leaving you to stand there, finding little to no answers wracking your brain, making you feel at a loss like an insect trapped in a mason jar.
In the end, you’re only able to come up with reiterations of the same question, pertaining to “Then what the fuck? Why? What do you want?”
But even that seems to annoy him, only answering you with an unsympathetic “Not important for you to know,” before repeating himself, more sternly than before, “Now eat before it gets cold.”
Standing there a moment longer, your thoughts wander back to the door behind you and your shoeless feet and the possibility of you outrunning him, then remember his first comment about the locked door and how it meant you’d probably have no luck in getting out even if you could make it there first.
And then, in the midst of your train of thought regarding your next move, utterly unprompted and with seriously questionable timing given the current predicament, your stomach decides to growl.
You earn his eye-contact with that, the both of you staring at each other for a moment that ends up bordering on a while.
And in that while, you decide to table all ideas about trying to run, fight, or hide.
Sure, they’d have been more reasonable reactions, but none seemed like they’d bear any good results at the moment. And so, going against all reason, you end up doing as he had suggested. Indeed, eating would do you some good, you agree while sitting back down, fork in hand as you start piling up your plate.
While stuffing your face, you steal a look at him once or twice. He doesn’t return it—content with you eating while still equally busy stuffing his own face.
You don’t know… outside the fact that this stranger had just admitted to kidnapping you and divulged his intentions of keeping you hostage here, there’s something even odder going on. And that is that he doesn’t seem like a complete stranger at all…
Yeah… something about him is extremely familiar, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. You’re sure you haven’t met him—not face to face at least—but you can’t shake the feeling as if you’ve seen him somewhere before…
And that’s when it hits you.
“Wait… I know you!” you exclaim once it finally clicks, pointing a finger at him. “You’re that chef—the one who hosts that cooking show that makes all the contestants cry. What’s it called… Kitchen something…”
You snap your fingers, trying to trigger the memory. Whether the method is due credit or not is anyone’s guess, but in any case, you end up remembering.
“Malevolent Kitchen!”
You knew you’d seen those tattoos before. Of course! It’s honestly kind of odd it didn’t come to you any sooner. But you’ve never seen him with his hair down like that, nor were you ever a big fan of the show either.
Still, you recall the name after a few more snaps with your fingers. “Sukuna—Ryomen Sukuna. Right?”
“Correct.” He doesn’t give you more credence other than that, nor does he seem to care much that you figured it out either.
You weigh the possibility of all this being some new type of prank show, but the thought quickly proves too unikely—even when competing with the likelihood of him having kidnapped you off the streets for no good reason. But who knows? All prank shows start off with a shitty premise, after all…
You continue eating. Thinking about the show. You’re not sure if it’s still running. But you do recall hearing something about it a few years back.
There’d been a scandal or something, you think. Or no, not a scandal—more like a bad rumour. One of those stupid Tiktok trends. What was it again? You remember your friends discussing it—some saying it must have been some ploy designed by his rivals to make him run out of business, while others were certain it was actually a clever marketing trick designed to make more people check his restaurants out for themselves.
It was something stupid, and so you hadn’t given it much thought back then, but…
“Holy shit…” you announce once you remember.
True crime tiktokers—you remember now—missing girls and satanic cannibalistic shit.
“No way...” you accuse, dropping your scone onto your plate with a rattle. “Are you really a—”
Your head spins, unable to settle. And when it does, it proves only further unsettling, striking you with a sense of nausea.
“A cannibal?”
You’d hoped he’d laugh. Tell you that was crazy, then say something like you’ve just been pranked and prove to you that this really was all for some dumb reality show.
But he doesn’t.
No, he doesn’t say anything at all, like there’s no merit in even trying to deny it. Rather, he more or less confirms it, looking at you with a moderately impressed expression, like he’s surprised you figured it out so fast.
It fully dawns on you then.
“Oh God, that’s it, isn’t it?”
The sense of sickness deepens, making you look down at your plate in something akin to disgust.
And yet, while there should be a million other thoughts and regrets running though your mind, you can’t help but fret, wondering if breakfast was really going to be your final meal—a thought so depressing, it makes you throw your head back with a you-must-be-joking type of scoff, examining the ceiling above only to notice it being clinically white like in an asylum.
“Oh man, that’s just my luck,” you mutter to yourself more than anyone. “Fucking livestock.”
And then, you don’t know exactly why—it’s undefendable given everything at stake—but you snort as though it was all some big joke.
Suppose, the utter insanity of the morning had reached a summit then spilled over, staining you with it, because not before long you’re laughing, hands clutching the counter so that you don’t tip backwards while you fullheartedly cackle until you're left out right wheezing in your chair.
“Well…” you sigh after a while, with regards to the silver lining, “At least it's a nice cage.”
The man finds it odd, by the way of him, looking at you in silence, having ceased his eating with his hands kept passive beside his plate—not sure what to make of you.
You, on the other hand, reverse the roles and resume eating. Now, all but shoveling the contents on your plate into your mouth before looking up and further chirping, “Is there a jacuzzi in this place? It seems like the type of place to have a jacuzzi.”
Somewhat baffled, though not overly expressive, the man appraises you.
Then, with a pause, answers, “Upstairs.”
You push your barstool out after your final bite, cheering with the food still in your mouth “Score—” as though the reality of the situation went forgotten. “I'm gonna go check that out for a few hours.”
You’ve never been in a ritzy place like this before—it would be stupid not to reap the benefits while you still could. Given he’d just chowed down breakfast, he must not be planning on having you right this second. Besides, if he’s planning to kill and eat you, letting you use the jacuzzi is the least he could do.
You’re halfway to the staircase, when he calls out, “Just be done before dinnertime.”
You turn around and look at him at that, now with a new inquiry, “You’re cooking?”
So, is it safe to say he isn’t eating you at that point either? Maybe it’s more of a nightly thing? Suppose a thing like cannibalism would be better suited after midnight, given its satanic connotations and all, but you wouldn’t want to assume.
In any case, he nods his head, and you can’t think of anything to do but take it as another silver lining, saying, “Double score,” with a shrug before continuing on your path to the stairs.
But not before you’ve taken another step, he calls out a question, as though feeding the utter absurdity of the situation, “Any preferences?”
To which you just wave your hand, making your way to the second floor without stopping this time. “Nah, not really. ‘M not a foodie. Anything’s good!”
—
You’re in there for a while, he notes without bothering to check on you.
Even after several hours have passed by, all without a single sign of you, he decides to let you be.
He doesn’t mind being left undisturbed while cooking, but he won’t deny this type of behavior is new to him.
But perhaps it isn’t so strange. Maybe you’re just biding your time, thinking up ways of escape. A reasonable endeavor—though it won't do you any good. Try as you might, no one has ever come close.
He’ll enjoy watching your attempt nonetheless—all part of the fun.
And yet, despite expectations, you return on your own. Hair wet, skin flush, and fingers pruned as you go, looking refreshed of all things.
Not only that, but he can’t sense even a smidgen of ulterior motives in you—no fight or flight whatsoever. It’s exceedingly strange. None of his victims so far have ever approached him willingly after understanding their circumstances.
But then again, you hadn’t proved to be very normal at all so far.
You just take a seat before the decked dinner table, silently eyeing the bondage he’d typically have to use left around the chair’s arms and legs with mild curiosity, probably curious about how many had sat in the seat before you. And yet, you don’t ask him about it.
By the look on your face, it’s impossible to say if it even bothers you.
You’ve changed out of your pajamas into the dress he’d laid out. Bloodred on the darker side. Just according to the ritual. You’re certainly making things a lot easier than his previous victims. But he won’t say it’s any boring this way, at least not yet. Just for now, he’ll admit he’s even a little intrigued by you.
“Smells good,” you announce, breaking the silence, and he can’t help but further wonder over what an odd thing you’re revealing yourself to be, as he walks up and places your plate in front of you.
Usually, he’d have to threaten or force you—or the person in your place—to indulge him. You however? Not only are you willingly sitting there, you’ve already got cutlery in hand.
“Hmph,” he expresses in mild amazement, thinking, if you really weren’t going to make a fuss, he might as well just sit down as well.
It puts him out of sorts—makes him feel a little fidgety even—unable to make sense of your behavior as he is.
But then, despite looking ever ready to do so, you hold off on digging in. Instead eyeing the meat with a soft furrow between your brows as though assessing something.
It makes him halt. Thinking perhaps he was wrong—maybe he’ll have to force you after all.
Biting your lip, you look up at him through your lashes, eyeing him sheepishly for a small moment like you wanted to inquire about something, before you suddenly seem to banish the idea. Announcing with a shrug, “You know what? I’m not even gonna ask.”
You then cut yourself a piece of the steak. And after gathering a bit of everything on your fork, you proceed to put it in your mouth without any further ado.
He observes you while you swish it about on your tongue—though isn’t sure exactly what he’s looking for. He knows he’s an excellent chef, and so the idea of someone liking his food isn’t a foreign concept to him.
Still though, it’s unfamiliar to watch one of his victims enjoy themselves so much.
“Mh—mmmh!” you hum, pointing to the meat with your fork. “Okay, if this is what human tastes like, I think I might honestly get it.”
Oh, so that had been your earlier concern.
He supposes that’s not such a strange thing to suspect given you’d pieced his whole plan together so early…
Your worry is unfounded though. It’s not human meat. “It’s wagyu.” Even so, you’d eaten it despite not knowing. Forget surprised, he’s even a little impressed.
“Oh, so you don’t just eat women?” you ask then, putting another fork–full into your mouth.
He halts. “What?”
Carelessly, you continue eating while making what he hesitantly would refer to as small talk, “I thought the reports only said missing women?”
Oh, right. He chuckles.
“What’s so funny?” you ask.
This time, he’s the one to break into laughter as he finally takes his own seat opposite from you.
“Hello? What’s so funny?” you ask again.
“Wagyu isn’t a name. It’s a type of beef,” he informs.
You blink at the revealed information, then look down at your plate, a small “Oh,” leaving you, sounding almost a little disappointed. Which only further spurs his amusement with an even louder cackle, causing you to pout as you look back up, whining, “Man, shut up, I told you I wasn’t a foodie.”
Then you laugh as well, at yourself, “Well, whatever it is, it's really good!” before continuing to eat.
“It better be,” he states, beginning to eat as well. “It retails for three-hundred bucks.”
You choke then—just as expected of someone like you with seemingly no knowledge of finer foods—cutlery seizing all movement upon your plate, clutched tightly in your grip. “Excuse me, what?” Eyes wide, you gawk at him from across the table, loudly exclaiming, “That’s even crazier than being a cannibal!”
It’s entertaining to say the least. The way you eye the meat again, now with an incredulous expression, and a bit of hesitantancy—perhaps due to shame for having scarfed it down so fast without properly savoring it.
“I mean, it’s good, don’t get me wrong,” you begin saying after a moment of thoughtful silence. “But three hundred big ones, really?”
Looking up again, your eyes as big as the dinner plates, looking for answers from him as though he could somehow explain a refined palate to you.
But not before long, your stare narrows into a suspicious squint instead, cocking your head sideways with a slow shake. “Nah… you’re fucking with me again, aren’t you?” you accuse, pointing your fork at him with a grin as though you’re onto him about something. “It’s actually just—like—racoon meat or something. You didn’t actually buy beef for three franklins as feed for the livestock—that would just be plain crazy.”
He grabs the wine bottle stationed between you with a soft disapproving grunt—you really don’t know the first thing about food at all, do you? Popping the cork, he then fills your glass, explaining, “The best farmers buy the best feed. I wouldn't wanna fatten you up with anything less than what I’d put in my own mouth.”
You keep a look of disbelief on your face for a moment, mulling it over in your head. Whether you understand it or not is all the same to him. Still, it surprises him to see you grab your glass with another shrug, followed by an agreeing, “Right, when you put it like that, I guess it only makes sense.”
You really are an odd one… He’s still waiting for you to snap out of whatever false calm you’d fallen under, to watch you break down and be left as hysteric as all his prior prey had been. But nothing of the sort ever happens.
No, not at all.
Throughout the dinner you make a few more efforts at small talk, inquiring about what wagyu is amongst other things, accepting his curt answers for what meagre back-and-forth they offer. And in the end, after declaring your fullness, you straightforwardly ask him if he’s going to eat you that night or if he’s planning to save you for another day.
And after hearing him say no, you only say as much as “Right then,” with a big yawn, before further announcing, “If that’s all, I think I’ll go to bed. If that’s okay with you?”
It’s unusual for the evening to end so soon, given how much time he’d been prepared to dedicate to ensure its progression and completion. With all his prior prey, he’d have to all but forcefeed them—a process that would sometimes take up to several hours. But, given you’d cleaned your plate all on your own, he could see no reason to keep you any longer.
And so he dismisses you with a nod and a short “Sure.”
“I’m guessing the room I woke up in is still up for grabs?” you ask, being polite of all things as you carry your plate over to the sink, rinse it, and place it neatly in the dishwasher.
He doesn’t know how else to answer but return your casualness with his own. Saying, “Knock yourself out.”
You celebrate with a tiny “Nice!” before setting your sights to the stairs, then an even more peculiar exclamation of “Good night!” before finally disappearing.
Leaving him to sit there and mull in your wake. Grimacing once noticing too late how you’d hidden a few vegetables in the folds of your napkin…
—
True to his word, he doesn’t kill and eat you during the night.
The next couple of days pass just the same. You sleep alone in the same room you’d woken up in, you utilize the luxury during the day, he makes food, you eat together, and then you go back to sleep.
Strange as it is, it’s not so different from being on a vacation—or well, aside from wondering when he might decide to suddenly eat you, of course.
Still though, just the same as with vacation, the longer it lasts, the more not doing anything gets you feeling a little antsy.
Which is why, “Want any help?” you ask. Sitting by the breakfast bar, elbows propped on the counter, head resting on both palms, kicking your feet while staring at him rummage around, doing the work of five people.
He’s so wrapped up in it, you thought he didn’t notice you, but, similar to your first encounter, he keeps his back turned while addressing you as though he might have known you were there all along.
“You know how to cut an onion?” he asks.
To which you roll your eyes with a scoff, “I mean, I did work at a burger joint, so I would hope so.”
You decide to overlook his audacity and take it as an invitation, even though you’re sure he’d meant it as the opposite.
You ignore his side-eye as you relieve the onion of its coat and start cutting. Even as the man fully stops his own ministrations just to stare at you with arms crossed, you don’t bother.
In the end he doesn’t stop you, just mutters “Your technique is pitiful,” before returning to what he’d been doing—allowing you to continue despite his clear aversion.
“Man, whatever, I got paid minimum wage,” you dismiss with a laugh, finding his dourness funny. “Chopped onion’s chopped onion anyway, so don’t be a dick. And besides, that’s not what you should be worrying about.”
“Oh?” he retorts absentmindedly, without bothering to look at you.
You snicker, setting your hip to the counter, twirling the blade around with your hand while giving him a sly look. “If I were you, I’d be more worried about how I just armed the livestock with a knife.”
You’re being playful, of course, not serious. Even still, you know you’re pushing it, given the man’s your cannibalistic captor you shouldn't be goofing around with. But you can’t seem to help yourself. “I mean, how do you know I won't cut you?”
He still doesn't offer you a glance, but returns your snicker with his own. “You know what? I’d love to see you try.”
“Oh really? You have that much faith in yourself you can dodge a blade with absolute certainty?”
You’re bantering. You’re bantering with the man who plans to kill and eat you. And despite all logic, it’s fun. And, if you didn’t know any better, you’d say he’s enjoying it too, because, finally his head turns to look at you, grin on his face, and says, “Try it.”
Your smile grows wider, laughing now, “Alright, well, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll take back those nasty comments regarding my onion-chopping skills—”
You’re only barely pointing the knife in his direction as a mock threat before you’re face-first with the pristine black marble of the kitchen counter, arm bent behind your back.
“See?” his voice wreaks heat upon your ear, bent over you from the back, low and gritty, “I’ve handled all types of animals—many of ‘em far more trouble than a brat with an onion knife.”
You don’t know if he notices, but you do—the way his lower half grinds against your ass with bulge and all. Maybe he’s just big, but you swear you can feel a certain stiffness.
“Yeah? I can tell, you really know how to handle someone.”
He releases you instantly upon your comment as though the very words had burned him, even taking extra measures to back up away from you—a sudden grimace on his face as he glares at you like he’s trying to keep you at arm’s length.
“If you're trying to make yourself interesting in the hopes I'll spare you, you should save yourself the embarrassment. As I said, I’m not interested in that shit.”
You had half the nerve to tell him that he could’ve fooled you with the way he was just acting, but you decided to save it. Instead, you just chuckle with a sarcastic “Aw shucks, my masterplan,”
Still though, despite your efforts of disengaging, he stands there, a little guarded, if you were to describe it, as though not convinced you weren’t effectively trying to seduce him.
You shake your head, thinking it all ridiculous. Like, if you were actually trying to seduce him you wouldn’t lead with onions and death threats, now would you?
“Trust me, chef, I understand my circumstances,” you declare with a hand to your chest and a dull look on your face. “I might be livestock, but I'm not dumb like one. I know there’s no reality in which you decide to let me go free. I mean, you’ confessed to being a cannibal, for crying out loud—there’s no way back from that.”
You lean yourself against the kitchen island you’d been pinned against not too many seconds ago. “And I know I'm supposed to be freaking out or whatever. But honestly, freaking out’s just never been my style.”
With both hands flat against the cool marble you tip your head backwards to look up at the ceiling, once again assessing the clinical whiteness of it all, before continuing, “Besides…. in a way, I’ve always had this gut feeling that I'd end up in a situation like this, so I’ sorta came to terms with it ages ago.”
You spot the funny look he gives you in your peripheral, and you restate, “Well, not like this, of course, but you know… In trouble somehow. So, I figure I should just try to enjoy myself as much as I can before I can’t. You know?”
He doesn’t give you any sign that tells you he understands what you’re talking about, but it wasn’t as though you were expecting one either. To be honest, you don’t understand it yourself. By all accounts, you should be losing your marbles right now, and by all means, you probably are—you just never knew it would feel the same as taking a fake sick-day just to get out of work.
But anyways. “You should be happy, chef.” At least that’s what you think. “I heard fear spoils the flavor. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get your first ever taste of untainted meat.”
His unrelaxed countenance doesn’t fully change as he cocks a brow, all but interrogating you, “Thought you said you weren’t a foodie.”
You chuckle. “I just heard it somewhere, is all.” It’s funny how that’s the part he chooses to arrest you on and not any of the other shit you’d just said, but nevermind. “Anything else I can help with?”
He still looks a bit wary. But after a moment, he nods towards the dining room, with regards allowing you to, “Deck the table.”
You smile at his weirdness, wondering if he’s asexual or abstinent while answering, “Sure thing, chef.”
—
A couple of more weeks pass just like that. You help him make dinner despite his efforts to discourage you. Other than that you continue to try and enjoy the luxuries that come with being a lamb raised for slaughter—taking long baths and watching movie marathons in the home cinema you found during your exploring of the house.
He’s gone most of the day, but not everyday. Even so, he’s busy—prepping things in the kitchen, or on the phone in his office. That, his bedroom, and the meat locker in the basement are the only three rooms with a lock in the entire house—except the outer door, of course—and the only three rooms you’ve yet to have seen the inside of.
In your sleep your mind wanders to what he keeps down there—and his bedroom for that matter. Imagining skinned bodies and heads in jars. It’s all you can do to entertain yourself after having run out of things to occupy your need for stimuli.
Today is one of those days especially, where restlessness has taken hold of you in such a way you don’t know what to do with yourself.
He comes home to find all the dining chairs mangled beyond repair, having been tossed a dozen times against the windows and walls.
“Shatterproof glass,” you state without acknowledging his arrival, lying still on the floor in the splinters. “I figured. But it was worth the try—if only to test your eye for precautions.”
He doesn’t do anything but stand there, taking in the crime scene.
“You gonna punish me?” you ask after a moment’s time.
“No,” he answers shortly.
To which you sigh, feeling as though it hadn’t been the answer you were looking for even though that doesn’t make much sense. A little miffed, you prop yourself up on your elbows to look at him, “You’re not even the least bit disappointed?”
He starts making his way to the kitchen, six grocery bags, three in each hand, saying, “It’s only natural. I’m more surprised it took you this long to try.”
You drop back down with a pout at the boring response, staring at the ceiling once more—still clinically white like you’ve been locked inside an asylum. At this point you might start believing it could be true. Mumbling, “Yeah, well, maybe I have an Icarus problem or whatever they call it…”
Another heavy sigh leaves you then. “Not gonna lie to you, chef. I'm starting to freak out a little.” You try making it sound like a warning, though you’re not sure he takes it as such. “Or maybe I'm just bored. Not sure which…”
He ignores you and you pout. And then, just a moment later, with spectacular timing as usual, your stomach decides to growl.
“Oh, really?” you question, looking down your chest to eye your stomach.
“How ‘bout that…” you scoff. “I guess trying to break windows is hungry work.”
You veer your head backwards to where your unlikely roommate stands, packing out of the grocery bags in a slow meticulous manner, like he’s taking his time to enjoy himself, thinking about all the cooking possibilities at his disposal.
Curiosity piqued, “What's for dinner?” you ask as you jump up on your feet and walk over to take your seat by the breakfast counter—it’s become your designated spot.
Standing before the fridge, he’s just finished packing the last item away when turning around and leaning against the door. Asking “What do you want?” while trying to act casual. But you can tell—he’s eager, wanting you to solve his luxury of choice for him.
But alas, it’s questions like those that you hate. And so, clutching the counter, you tilt backwards and make a show of rolling your head against your shoulders, before laying yourself dead against the marble, looking up at him, saying “Oh, come on, chef, you know I don't have the answer to that. Your kitchen might as well be a space station.”
With a sly smile, you bat your lashes at him as though saying pretty please “Decide for me?”
Since that time he’d pinned you against the counter, he’s been more guarded when it comes to your suggestive and flirty ways, standing there, straight and stiff, with only curt “Fine,” leaving him.
It’s boring, you pout to no one but yourself as he rolls up his sleeves and starts picking ingredients.
But then, ingredients in hand, still with his back turned towards you as he makes his way to the stove, he mumbles, just loud enough for it to be meant as an offer and not some joke, “If you’re bored, come help.”
You lift yourself up from your slump, burning holes in the back of his head with your stare. This would be the first time he’s ever spared you any such consideration.
You have to giggle a bit, feeling excited as you jump out of your seat and follow behind him. “The word please ain’t in your vocabulary, huh, chef?”
As though embarrassed to look at you after having requested you in such a way, he even turns his cheek when you get too close, mumbling once again, now lower and gruffer, “I ain’t heard you say thank you yet, either.”
It makes your smile grow wider. “Hmph—I guess we’re bad company.”
—
More weeks pass.
The only thing you ask of him is to rent you a movie you’d been dying to see.
Other than that, you make yourself about as high maintenance as a housecat. He just feeds you three times a day and you never complain.
Over time, you get more and more comfortable—which he hadn’t thought possible—and more and more bratty, inviting him into discussions, coaxing him into indulging you by showing interest in his cooking, spanning from acting deeply invested to fleetingly so. He can’t blame you for trying. Still, he can’t reward your efforts either.
Exercising restraint, he maintains an instrumental distance. The more familiarity you show him, the more he pulls back. After all, he mustn’t forget what you are. In the end, despite how much you act like it, you’re not his pet or partner or imaginary friend. You’re meat. He just needs to figure out what to make with you. That’s all. The only reason behind him keeping you around this long.
Admittedly, your slaughter date was supposed to be ages ago. He’s never kept another victim this long, not by a long shot. Usually, the entire ritual only lasts the weekend, with an entire week at most. Meanwhile, your stay is coming up on a whole month now…
And still, he lets another two weeks pass. And with the additional time, you’ve grown the audacity to sit and pick at his food.
“Not up to your standards?” he questions.
You’ve been unusually quiet this evening. Normally, you’d talk his ear off about this and that and everything between heaven and hell, but right now, if he were to close his eyes, he wouldn’t even know you were there with him.
During your month and a half, you’d yet to have gotten sick. Not that there was any reason for you to get sick, what with you staying safe indoors and him cooking all your meals. Really, you should be brimming with life like you would any other day.
But then again, he had noticed a change in you lately. Mere boredom had evolved into something more, something worse. Sitting there, silently, your expression isn’t only dull, but something even more hushed.
Lonely is the word that comes to mind.
“I don't mean to offend you, chef…” you mumble. “But right now I kinda just wish I had some cup noodles—or maybe a big mac or something else simple like that—anything but this gourmet stuff…”
He’s not sure what to say to that. Though many of his prior victims had refused to eat his food or even gone to such lengths as to throw up after eating it, he’s never, not once, witnessed one request junk food instead.
“I’m sorry, that was rude,” you apologize. Then, releasing a heavy sigh, you pick your gaze up, setting those pitifully downcast eyes in his direction. “When are you gonna kill me?”
Your expression is blank, and yet it has a certain presence—demanding an answer.
It wasn’t a question he was expecting to hear from you.
“Haven’t decided,” he dismisses. He doesn’t let it show, but it sends a chill down his spine. He then begins to eat without you in an attempt to shrug it off. Ignoring the way you stare at him by pretending to have his full focus on his plate, even when he can barely taste the food on his tongue.
“I think you should do it soon. Before my meat goes bad,” you add, unsatisfied with his response—or, at least, he thinks he can detect a certain sharpness in your tone he’s never heard before.
It proves more of a reason for him to keep eating—half his plate already gone while yours remain untouched. Answering you with his mouth stuffed full, “I don't know what to make of you yet.”
“Tch—aren’t you a chef?” you huff to that. He can spot your grip tighten around your utensils, wringing the silver in your grip. “Figure it out already.”
He’s not sure what this feeling is. Something weird in his gut, making the food not sit right. He’s never experienced it before, but something tells him its nervousness. What else can it be? What else would have the power to make him lose appetite as well as make it near impossible to return your glare?
“You haven’t given me anything to work with…” he argues, as though this was a simple matter. “I can’t cook if I'm not inspired.”
Even as he says it, he knows it’s all bullshit—knows it won’t satisfy the frustration he can feel emanating from you.
“Excuse me?” you bark then, voice raised even higher, even sharper, “I’m here waiting to become food, and you’re talking about inspiration?”
You scoff then, incredulously. “Last time I checked, the beef doesn’t tell the chef it wants to be a fucking burger.”
In situations like these, he’d typically resort to the restraints. You hadn’t yet given him any reason to, but still, they’ve remained around the chair’s arms and legs all this time, just waiting to be put to use.
Usually, he wouldn’t bat an eye doing it, but for some reason, with you, he’d like to avoid it.
“Eat,” he says instead, halfway as a command, but otherwise as a measure to diffuse the tension.
But efforts be damned, you won’t have it, throwing your cutlery on the clothed table with a clatter in clear demonstration. “I'm not fucking hungry. How about that?”
Another chill straightens his spine, his jaw clenched, throat tight, repeating “Eat,”
And you, challenging him, stand your ground with a sound “No.”
He throws his cutlery too, then slams both fists down on the table, making everything do a jump. “Either you eat, or I forcefeed you. Pick.”
“Fine,” you return right away, throwing your hands up in a mock gesture of surrender yet make no advancements towards your utensils or the food on your plate. Instead, you make a show of crossing your arms over your chest while slouching down in your seat like a brat, before further pushing your luck with an equally testy “What's for dessert?”
Your plate remains picked to pieces, getting colder by the second, with none of it having seen your mouth. What’s more, not only have you had enough nerve to have asked him for fast food instead, now you’re taking it further by ordering “Dessert?”
“Yeah.” Assessing your nails, you switch between having your fingers pressed into your palm to turning your hand around and stretching them out. Lips pursed before you smack then, “I've been meaning to tell you this for a while now actually, it’s criminal to have dinner without dessert.”
Swallowing thick, he finds the need to gather himself as the magnitude of unrecognizable emotions floods his body and brains, so much his eye twitches receiving them all. “Is that right?”
Meanwhile, you just cock your head to the side, continuing to push him with an assertive “Sure is.”
Teeth clenched, he takes a breath, then relays “Hate to disappoint, but I don’t make dessert,” still trying to put the argument to bed by thwarting your stubbornness.
But you remain determined. In fact, you remain downright unabashed, shooting him a pointedly snarky “What type of chef doesn’t know how to make dessert?”
Yet another chill nearly makes him shudder. Brows lowered, stating, “I know how.”
By all accounts, he’s giving you enough warnings for you to back off and apologize, but you do no such thing. “Then why don’t you?” you inveigh instead, now with a sneer no less.
“Eat,” he repeats again, as if saying for the last time.
But you refuse to let it scare you. “No!” you roar, abruptly standing up with a stomp. “In fact, fuck you! I'm done eating on death row without dessert! It’s ridiculous!”
He gets up too, with a growl no less, “Sit down.”
His fists balled up, placed with knuckles cracking against the table in clear threat you still don’t bother heeding.
You just ball your own fists and mirror his stance. “Are you deaf? I said, not without dessert.”
“That’s it.”
It’s just like the last time he put hands on you—it happens before he can think.
One second, he’s staring at you from the other side of the table, and in the next, he’s already rounded it and planted you flat against it. Though that’s not to say he didn’t have control. No, his actions are perfectly calculated despite his head being anything but—having placed you down, belly-up, just shy of the food, like you’re part of the feast.
“Don’t you get it?” he rasps, clutching your upper arms harshly enough to make you shut your mouth—but too late. With the damage already done, you needn’t push him anymore to make him blurt it out, “You’re supposed to be dessert but you’re making it fucking impossible!”
And still, it’s not the outburst you’d been waiting for.
“Excuse me?!” you gasp. “I’m making it impossible?” With a big scoff, you seem to forget how he’s got you pinned beneath him against the table with the way your hands fly up and ball his shirt in two tightknit fists. “Fuck are you on? I’ve been nothing but cooperative since the start, you asshole!”
“You’re not supposed to be, you brat!” he counters, and then with his head bowed and voice lowered into a whisper adds “I’m fucking starving beacuse of you.”
Your eyes meet his, unwavering in their pursuit, and he can’t defend calling you his victim or his prey any longer.
“Well… if you’re so fucking hungry, go on and eat me already,” you dare, a provocative curl upon your lips drawing him in. “Unless you’re too much of a pussy to try.”
—
“Well, well, well…” you croon, lying beneath his sheets, on top of his chest like it’s your rightful place. A smug look in your eyes, biting your smile, before completing your taunt, “Looks like you fell for my master plan after all.”
He sighs heavily. Hands connected just beneath the small of your back, on top of all that plump flesh he thought he’d have in his stomach, but instead ended up in his bed.
No one could have predicted these turn of events. And so, “Don't flatter yourself... We both know you never had any plan.”
You just giggle, continuing to tease him, “And still, the livestock lives on.”
Shifting, you push yourself up into a seated position, straddling him. “I mean, not to judge or anything, but…” Running your hands down his chest, he watches you admire all the little bitemarks you’d left before your eyes meet his again, as unapologetic as ever. “You’d be a real freak if you ate me after we did all that.”

The first time you appeared in his dreams, he didn't question it, after all, strange dreams happened to everyone. Then he began to recognize your silhouette in the crowd, on a street corner or sitting among people.
His senses screamed at him to approach, every muscle tensed, and his hair stood on end as if it knew something he didn't.
Several times he had almost succumbed to this invisible connection, but someone always ended up taking his attention for a second, and when he looked for you again, you had vanished. The more these moments happened, the more nervous and frustrated he became, but his dreams never allowed him to understand anything. It was as if he were trapped in…a memory, a memory that seemed to belong to him but that he had never actually lived.
One evening, he found himself in possession of his body in one of his strange dreams-for the first time-, nothing around him but a vast expanse of black, like a void. Then he felt icy fingers slide over his shoulders, the muscles of his arms, his hands. He seemed paralyzed by a kind of fear, but also by a yearning buried deep within his chest.
Then, her arms encircled his waist, like a snake preparing to strangle its victim.
« Wait for me my love, i will find you in every life…again and again. »
A breath caressed the nape of his neck, and the arms tightened their grip. Teeth sank into his neck, and he awoke with a cry, the sheets disheveled and his breath coming in ragged gasps.
Later, staring at his reflection, he saw the marks of teeth on his neck.
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
how you and sae first meet! based off the couple from this fic
read on ao3
cw: sae being so down bad im literally embarrassed for him that man is nonchalant on the outside but crazy internally i know it
<3
Sae didn’t think that his little brother would be getting married before he did, but here he is, looking for a suit to wear as a guest to Rin’s wedding. He didn’t make the cut for best man or his groomsmen, but he’s okay with that and understands why.
Sae already has suits in his closet, custom-made and perfectly tailored from other events, branded by expensive fashion names, but of course his brother is difficult and chooses a dress code that doesn’t include those colours. So now he’s at the mall, near closing time so that he’s less likely to be recognised, looking for a shop that seems like it would sell a nice suit.
It doesn’t take long for him to find one, and he walks into it immediately. The shop is smaller than he expects, no other customer present except him, but as he walks around, feels a couple of clothing pieces, looks at the prices and materials, he can tell that it’s a high-end brand (though he’s never heard of it before). The lighting in the store is a warm yellow, but he’s suddenly greeted with something warmer, quite literally: you.
“Is there anything I can help you with today?”
Your smile is small but kind, unimposing, and your hands are behind your back as you lean towards him slightly to address him. You don’t seem to recognise him, or at least if you do it’s not obvious. His eyes quickly scan your face before going to read your name tag, and he’s reminded that he should probably answer you.
“Yes, actually. I’m looking for a suit to wear to a wedding in a couple of weeks, as a guest.”
“Is there a specific colour palette for this wedding?”
“Annoyingly, yes. I actually have a couple of suits already, at home, but the colour scheme for this wedding is quite… different, I don’t have anything for it.” You let out a small laugh at that, and he finds himself attracted to it, the way your eyes crease, and he doesn’t know why he’s rambling when he hasn’t even answered your question yet, “It’s pastel colours. Light blues and greens, pinks and beiges. Actually, I can just show you a picture…”
He pulls out his phone to show you the picture of his invitation, and when you take a step closer to see it, he finds himself having to remind himself to breathe properly.
“It’s very in season, we actually have a couple of suits that match those colours perfectly right now. Did you have a material preference, by any chance? Like if it’s in a hotter country or somewhere colder, or if you think you’ll find yourself moving a lot and need some stretch to the suit.”
Sae’s never bought a suit by himself before, and he’s certainly never had to care for these kinds of factors before. He’s impressed with your expertise, even though it’s your job, and is slightly regretful that he doesn’t remember the details about the suits he’s previously worn (when having to sell the name he’s wearing). Something about you makes him want to impress you, but he also doesn’t want to make a fool out of himself by pretending to be an expert in something he clearly isn’t, not when it’s a topic you’re clearly more knowledgeable about.
“No, I don’t. The wedding’s in Paris, city of love and all that, so I don’t think I’ll be too fussed about the material. I don’t plan to move much either, I’m not really the dancing type.”
You let out another laugh at that and he finds himself joining you, before you turn slightly and gesture to the back of the store.
“Our formal suits are at the back of the store so I’ll show you what we have first, if you’d like to follow me.” You start walking and he moves to walk next to you. You point at the different options, telling him about the different suit materials, the fabric weaves, the optional matching waistcoats.
“See anything that you particularly like?”
“The green and blue look good, is it alright if I try them both?”
“Yeah, of course! Do you know your blazer and trouser size already?”
He gives you his sizes, and he almost regrets it when he sees your hand go to the tape measure wrapped around your trouser’s belt loop: he’s been measured by other professionals before, but he can’t help wondering what it’d feel like being done by you.
“Perfect, I’ll grab those sizes for you, if you want to wait in the fitting room first? Did you also want to buy a shirt with the suit as well?”
Sae has plenty of shirts at home, also tailored to fit him perfectly. He absolutely does not need more.
“Yes, actually. Would you mind measuring me for those? I can’t remember my size, exactly.”
“Yeah, of course!”
Your hand unravels the tape by your hip and you step close to him, outstretching your arms to loop it around his neck. He squats to meet your height, your faces inches apart, which rewards him with a lovely smile from you.
“Thank you. Do you plan to wear a tie with this shirt?” Your fingers brush his neck as you tighten the tape measure, and he finds himself getting goosebumps. He tries not to be obvious at how he stares at your face, admires your features.
“Y-yeah, I do.” He clears his throat after his embarrassing voice crack, “Sorry.”
“No worries.” You say, though he can tell you’re holding back a laugh, and that makes him respect you a little more. You read out the measurement of his neck and pull away, to his dismay, “If you want to just follow me to the changing room, I’ll give you a shirt to try on just to check the size, and then I’ll get you those suits as well.”
“Alright.”
Sae follows you to the changing rooms and you hand him a shirt from a rack.
“If it’s too tight or too loose anywhere, let me know and I’ll grab you another size.”
“Thank you.”
He takes the shirt from you, fingers brushing, and you’re off to fetch those suits before he can even watch for your reaction.
Is this whole thing just a silly one-sided attraction from him? In fact, what is even going on with him, why is he thinking like this? He tries to get rid of his thoughts as he changes into the shirt. When he’s got it on, he finds that it fits perfectly, almost as good as the ones he has at home and he’s pleasantly surprised. He feels like he should show you, since you’re the expert and everything (not because he wants to show off his figure or anything), and he steps out to see you waiting for him, blazers and trousers in hand.
“What do you think? Does it fit okay?” He asks.
“Yeah, I think it fits perfectly. It’s not too tight or anything, right? Comfortable when you move around?”
Sae knows that he’s attractive, knows that he’s got a pretty well-built figure, filled out with muscle from soccer and the gym. It’s with that knowledge that he decides to flex a little bit, literally, and so he tries to roll his shoulder as seductively as possible, facing the mirror to pretend that he’s actually doing this for himself and not to impress you, but making sure you see the motion of his arm, the muscle that tenses against the fabric. What am I doing?, he thinks to himself, and when he’s done with his little show, he can’t even face you again out of embarrassment (that he makes sure not to let you see).
“Yeah, no, it’s perfect. Thank you.”
“Great!” You say, totally chipper and unaffected by him as you move to hang the blazers and trousers in his changing room, “Let me know how those go!”
You leave him by himself, and when he locks the door again, he has to rest his head on the back of it. Get yourself together, he tells himself, you’re being weird. He tries on the blazers and the trousers, and they fit fine - he’s not too fussed about things fitting as well as the suits he has at home since he doubts he’ll wear this suit much outside of the wedding. He’s just not sure about which colour to pick. He steps out in the green suit first, to ask for your opinion.
“How is it?” You ask.
“Yeah, they both fit fine. I’m just a bit torn between the colours, do you think I could get your opinion on them?”
“Yeah, sure!”
The two of you just stand there looking at each other for a second. Sae’s not sure what he should do, have you finished… judging? He decides to do a slow spin, internally screaming at himself because what is he doing!!!!!, before promptly leaping into the changing room again.
“I’ll change into the blue one, now.” He says hurriedly, and he finds himself wanting to just buy any of these goddamn suits and leave before he can embarrass himself any further. He steps out in the blue suit, deciding to not do a spin for this one.
“… I think I like this one better. The colour contrasts your hair and eyes nicer.” You say.
“I trust your judgment, I’ll get this one then.”
Sae almost forgets that he’d said that he needed a shirt with the suit, so when he changes out of the suit (ready to pay and get out of this place) and you don’t lead him to the till, he blanks at the selection you present him with, but recovers quickly.
“Did you have a colour preference for the shirt?”
“... Just white is fine. The one I tried on was perfect, if you have that?”
“Yeah, we do! I’ll just grab that for you from the stockroom, if you want to wait by the till?”
“Sure.”
And you’re off, disappearing behind a door at the back of the store. He goes to the till, suit in his hands, and waits for you.
He’s attracted to you (if that wasn’t obvious enough) but he’s not sure what it is. You’re gorgeous, he knows that clearly, but there’s something more to you, something that he wants to pursue. He’s never had this feeling about someone and he doesn’t want to let it go so easily, despite how much he’s embarrassed himself.
You interrupt his thoughts with your arrival, waving the shirt in your hand at him as you round the corner of the till to stand opposite him. You gesture for his suit and he hands it to you over the table with a quiet thanks. You start scanning things, putting the suit on a hanger to put in a bag, and Sae knows that if he wants to do anything, he has to do it now.
“… Do you get many wedding suit inquiries?” He cringes at his question, because obviously you do, but your presence seems to make his already lacking social skills become nonexistent.
“Yeah, we do. Especially now, since it’s peak wedding season. Most people prefer a wedding with nicer weather after all.”
You zip up the suit bag and turn to him to tell him his total, gesturing to the card reader. He pulls out his wallet and inserts a random card.
“You a fan of weddings?” He asks as he presses his pin into the keypad.
“Yes, I am!” Your tone brightens at that, completely different to how you’d be talking to him before, and it makes him look up at you; your cheeks are lifted, eyes bright and smile dazzling, “I really love weddings. They’re just so cute and fun, I really want to go to one.”
“You haven’t been to one?”
“I’ve only been to one when I was, 10 or 11 I think, but since then I haven’t, sadly. No one seems to be getting married around me.” You print his receipt and fold it into your hand, turning to unhook the suit bag from the hanger to give to him with a slightly diminished smile. You hand the suit bag and receipt to him expectantly, and he takes it, but doesn’t pull away immediately.
“Listen, I’m sorry if this is, wildly unprofessional and borderline harassment, but, there’s something about you that I can’t… I’d like to get to know you, if you’d let me. I think you’re beautiful and… was wondering if you’d like to go to this wedding with me?”
You’re shocked to say the least, visually evident with your raised eyebrows, your widened eyes and dropped jaw. Sae has no idea what you’ll say, but he’s prepared for the worst.
“… Are you serious?” Your hand stays next to his on the bag hanger, his only sign of hope.
“100%”
You look down at that, thinking, and Sae feels his hands getting sweatier.
“… Sure.” You whisper.
It’s Sae’s turn to be surprised.
extra:
You always do this when he wears this suit. This specific, pastel blue suit.
“Baby, I love that you do this, and I get it, don't get me wrong, but we’re going to be late if we don’t leave soon.”
Your arms are wrapped around him, chest pressed to his as you lay your head over his heart.
“Just a little bit longer, please?” You prop your chin on his chest, puppy-eyed and pouting at him; how can he say no to that? He tightens his arms around your shoulders with a sigh, making you giggle as you bury your head into him again.
“It’s the suit that got us together, Sae. We have to cherish it every time you wear it out.”
“Yes, sweetheart. It’s special.”
You start to rock the two of you side-to-side, and he lets you, swaying to the sound of nothing in the middle of your living room. Your swaying soon turns a bit too enthusiastic, and you think you’re going to fall, but Sae simply dips you down to his side, hands wrapped around your waist. You put a hand to his chest, eyes wide staring into his.
“Sae… I’m not really the dancing type.” His head immediately falls at the familiar words, and he pulls you upright again as you start laughing aloud, “You were so cute that day, trying so hard to keep talking to me and everything.”
“You just have that effect on me, even now.”
“You bought an extra shirt for me, just so I’d measure you.”
He looks sheepish at that, looking away from your eyes with a hand on the back of his neck.
“Guilty as charged.”
You’re so overwhelmed with love, it makes you jump onto him, arms wrapped around his neck as your feet raise onto your toes. He wraps his arms around your waist again and uses this opportunity to lift you up, walking the two of you to the front door. When he lets you down, you brush your hands down his arms to hold his hands instead, as you pull away.
“You’re so cute. I love you.” You raise onto your tip-toes again to kiss him, and you go to swipe away the gloss that’d transferred onto his lips, but he stops you, holding your wrist.
“Let me keep it. It’s yours.” The corners of Sae’s mouth lift just slightly, “Like me.”
You squeal at that and throw yourself at him again, and he’s always ready to catch you.
“Where was this smoothness when we first met, Sae?”
“Hey, I’m not into blatantly flirting with strangers, nevermind someone who’s just trying to do their job.”
“... I’m glad. Otherwise I might not have liked you as much.”
You pull away, and Sae is glad to see you finally put on your shoes, so he follows suit, checking his watch to thankfully see that you’ll both still be on time. He holds your hand as you stand, and you grab your bag from the wall hook. You say his name, and he responds with a questioning sound.
“Do you know why I said the blue suit looked better on you than the green?”
“... Because it contrasted my hair and eyes better?”
“Well, yes, silly. It did. But, it’s also because I never wear green. I wear blue much more often.”
You smile when the message sinks into him, his jaw slowly dropping, and you swiftly open the door to skip to his car, looking back at him teasingly as you say We’re going to be late, Sae!
He laughs in disbelief, following after you once he’s locked his front door.
“You’re sneaky,” he says, as he sits in the driver’s seat, “You do that when other customers ask for your opinion?”
“Of course not! You were the first and only, Sae. Who knew you’d be some hot-shot soccer player who’d turn out to be the love of my life.”
“I did.”
“Such high self-esteem you have.”
“You love it,” he says, and he puts his hand on the back of your seat to reverse out of his driveway, “But I knew you were mine. I’d never felt that way about anyone else, and still never have. Never will.”
He’s glad he’d stopped the car after reversing out, knowing that you’d throw yourself across the console to hug him again, and his hands slide to your back with a soft smile in return.
“I love you.”
“I love you.”

“A fool may sleep. A fool may sneer. A fool may ask why the princess is crying here?”
It’s so sudden that it stops your tears.
Crouched in a small passageway near the royal court. Between the gleaming armors upon display of Gakuganji the Great and Kashimo the Fierce. For a brief moment of madness; you think you must have imagined the lilting voice—almost melodic. Marvelous.
It’s one of the most beautiful things you’ve ever heard - even more so than the music wafting from the open doors of court, brought by the travelling circus that your palace was entertaining.
And then you’re hearing him again.
“Sob sob sob—for my princess is a crier. Dear Gojo here, shall set Yaga’s stache on fire—!”
That makes you finally lift your head out of your arms, with a laugh that is full-chested and unabashed. For the first time in a long…long time.
“What might your name be?” You ask the boy with the bright blue eyes, and an even brighter smile.
And that was the story of how you met Gojo Satoru - when you were eight, and he’d been merely ten. Though he didn’t look ten—he might’ve looked even younger than you.
White hair. Winks of dimples upon each cheek. His face was chalk-white from the make-up typical of jesters, even young ones, supposedly.
He was drowning in a faded red and blue jester outfit that looked as if it’d been dragged through multiple shows a night. It looked far too big to have been his originally. Even through the patched-up collar, his collarbones showed, and from the too-wide sleeves; his pale, near-skeletal limbs stuck out oddly.
His face was pretty, however, with eyes too large for his head.
Gojo’s cheeks were sunken in, yet his smile wasn’t the slightest bit smaller. That, too, looked too large to be his.
And you…
Crying outside the royal court, after your parents had declared you far too young to see the travelling circus. The acrobats. The sword-swallowers. And one little jester…that had gone missing during the processions.
Though, in time, Gojo took delight in weaving in additional parts of fighting off dragons and two haunted knight armors—enraptured courts that clapped and laughed as he sang of a white-haired fool and his crying princess. He’d whisked you off your feet and made you swoon in ways a princess utterly shouldn’t - and then produced you before your horrified father, His Majesty, as the sole suitor that made you laugh.
At least according to him.
Though one thing was true from that fairytale: Gojo had been the only person to make you laugh. The only one.
Previous jesters and palace acts wavered between confusing you with their overly long ballads, or enraging you - all because they assumed some little princess couldn’t handle humor. And maybe that was why - Gojo hadn’t underestimated you - that you’d gone right up to your father in the middle of a particularly splendid fire-breathing act, stood in the center of the lavish floor, and declared—
For Gojo to be released from the circus to become your personal jester.
As a royal jester he would be clothed, bathed, and tutored alongside you - so long as he kept you entertained with his rhymes (to which you had no doubt that he wouldn’t falter).
Not minister nor royal guest should lay a hand on him. He was to be treated as an equal member of the court, and should have titles bestowed upon him in due time—but for now, he will grow up as your best friend. Your only.
And whilst declaring this in about as much royal haughtiness as you could have managed, you looked over at Gojo. You don’t remember for what reason. You don’t remember what you were looking for.
All you remember is that Gojo’s eyes seemed brighter in that moment, like the night’s cloak of stars. There were tears in his eyes.
And he flashed you his crooked grin.
You grinned back.
His Majesty and the advisors didn’t take long to mull over the thought before asking the circus master to name his price for the boy. And Gojo had been small then - oh-so-small - a mere waif of a boy. He was clearly the youngest amongst these adults, and the circus master hadn’t even remembered he was part of the troupe.
He’d demanded two crowns and a bag of wheat.
To which The King had obliged with a simple wave of his hand—before freeing the other circus members, as well. He was merciful…most of the time.
And you’d been so overcome with joy that you ran to the jester and took his hands then and there.
Had it been in the little passageway where you’d met, then you might even have embraced him.
But perhaps you’d given the ministers enough conniptions for the day?
“Follow me.” You breathlessly whispered to the little jester that seemed far too shocked for words. “I shall summon the royal tailor whilst you take your bath- we have every fragrance in the land, and more than enough botanical springs.”
But the longer he stayed speechless and unmoving, the more self-conscious you grew.
Your fingers loosened around his, “That…that is if you wish to-”
“I do.” He stopped you from slipping away - he clasped your hands even tighter. Tight enough to nearly hurt—but you didn’t stop him. “I-I’d be honored, Your Highness.”
“You shan’t have to call me that.”
And though a few eavesdropping court ladies and gentlemen gasped at the destruction of long-held social etiquette, Gojo had merely smiled and nodded. And then you’d been the one to whisk him away.
You.
Gojo shared little about his upbringing that first day in the palace, and even less over the years. You knew that he’d been born into an average family just a kingdom over - Gojo itself was a fairly used name - but tragedy struck and his parents both passed away—although you never asked how, and he never shared why. It almost…seemed as if he didn’t remember. A part of him that had scrubbed out most of those years, like a bloodstain.
And he’d lived in the same lifeless home as them for five days. Trying to wake them.
No one listened.
No one arrived.
No one helped.
No one helped.
No one helped.
Driven by hunger and loneliness, Gojo finally left the house after those five days. And just his fortune, he hadn’t walked long before encountering the travelling circus—so many jugglers and jesters and acrobats and fire-breathers. And one master leading them from the front.
He’d been both enraptured and scared.
And hungry. So…so hungry.
Even the smell of the lion food was appetizing to him.
One acrobat passing by had spotted the boy watching wide-eyed from the side of the road, and seeing how desperate he was, shared her lunch and invited him to join. It was the biggest act of kindness he’d felt in five days.
And so he taught himself to rhyme. To joke. To smile.
And two years later was when you saved him- you told Gojo that it wasn’t so much as saving him than him saving you. But he denied.
“Thank you.” Gojo had whispered to you, almost fearful, during his first night in the palace. The Princess’s jester had been granted quarters right across the hallway from your own chambers—and yet, the first night was always the scariest, wasn’t it?
He’d given you quite the fright sneaking into your royal chamber after all the candles had been snuffed and your attendants had left. Soundless as a mouse—and looking just as unwelcome inside the gilded bedroom. But eventually, you welcomed him onto the lavish mattress far too large for even two.
Let alone two children.
Laid a fair distance apart, you faced each other.
“I forbid you to say those words again, Gojo.” You smiled. “And just for the one night, I trust?” You meant the bed-sharing; should your attendants walk upon this in the morning, then Gojo would be thrown into the dungeons faster than he can rhyme.
Gojo nodded, somewhat flushed. “Just for the one night.”
.
.
.
“Satoru-”
“Mmmm, puff pastries and wagashi.”
“Satoru.”
“Huh? Ohhh, sweet cheesecake.”
“Sato—” The exasperated call of his name doesn’t land before the kick does - square in the middle of Gojo Satoru’s broad back.
Sometime in the last few years, after he’d taken up training with General Yaga to keep himself fit for his dances, Gojo had started sleeping without his upper garments on.
And you couldn’t deny that it was a sight for sore eyes; his sun-freckled sun, the dips and curves of his muscles shifting as he did. The roundness of his deltoids. The sensual curve of his spine. The patterns of his scapulae, and lash marks that he wouldn’t explain. They moved like waves of an ocean, and they peaked and fell just as much. Some mornings you dared to trace every single one—just with your eyes, of course.
But of course, he was just your best friend - socially, your jester, at that.
Which is exactly why you’re kicking him off the bed the second you hear your morning attendants heading down the corridor. As soon as he’s out of sight, the double doors to your bedroom open—and they’re floating inside with steaming-hot trays of breakfast and new fragrances for your skin.
One of the attendants sets the breakfast tray down on your bedside table, and you sneak him a few of the blueberry-spotted pancakes. Though have to slap Gojo’s hand away from swiping the syrup, too, before one of them sees.
“Such a beautiful day, isn’t it, Your Highness?” Your head attendant, Utahime, trills as she throws the curtains open to let soft morning sunlight flood inside. “The perfect morning.”
“It is.” You’re nodding. You slap Gojo’s hand away from the syrup again.
“And we have no more than an hour to get you ready, Your Highness. So I beg you to finish your tea quickly.” Another attendant hands you your morning tea - just how you liked it. It smelled of something floral that reminded you of the royal gardens, and something else so utterly appetizing that you could feel Gojo huffin’ and puffing about beneath you.
Served him right for sneaking in again, you think.
You slap Gojo’s hand away again. Utahime continues speaking onwards obliviously, “—prepare for the guest.”
“A guest?” That piques your interest.
This time, Gojo steals the syrup. And it creates a loud clatter that draws the attention of all the attendants sweeping and scurrying about to pick out your gown for the day—you’re unceremoniously coughing to cover it up. You’re not sure it works.
Utahime crinkles her nose, “Nasty little ailment, isn’t it?” Her intelligent eyes dip down to the bed - though she keeps it discreet. Utahime, as well as being your head attendant, was one of your closest friends as well.
Close to you in age, you’d hand-picked her to be what was essentially your right-hand woman.
And she knew of the rather…close friendship that you and Gojo had; perhaps improper for court etiquette, but just right for the two of you.
From underneath the bed, Gojo snickers.
You bounce on the mattress, whilst Utahime kicks the bed post.
“Ah…this ancient bed.” You’re commenting once the other attendants look at you with raised brows, “Honestly, sometimes I believe it to be haunted.”
“Wake up to a mysterious figure at your bedside, do you?” Utahime eyes you. You avert your gaze from hers. “Well, we should do well to rid your chambers of that before the Prince arrives, Your Highness.”
“The Prince?”
“Prince Zenin Naoya, of course.”
Gojo knocks his head on the bed frame.
.
.
.
Prince Zenin Naoya possessed many titles; the latest one being the most unpleasant royal you’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting.
Which was saying rather a lot.
You’ve met many a-princess that were appalling to her attendants, and many princes that boasted their numerous wars. Your father himself fell into the latter group. And many, many more dukes and duchesses and marquis—and whatever other title had surfaced over the last few centuries and gotten latched-onto with rabid, golden-ringed claws. Had it not been for your duty to maintain a peaceful political climate, you would have forgone those social gatherings altogether.
Though your father was particularly careful not to repeat the border strife that had occurred not too long ago in your kingdom…some violence-seeped dispute over power.
And so you lifted your head and plastered a smile.
You managed to clamor through even the most painful of social obligations.
But this one…this one might just force you to rewrite all the royal rules that had been drilled into you since you were younger.
“It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” You nod in acknowledgement as the Prince bows. His coronet was made of pure gold; a simple band with a blood-red ruby in the middle.
It flashed at you menacingly.
And so did his pearly-white smile.
“The pleasure is all yours, Your Highness.”
You’re taken aback at his choice of words. You meet Gojo’s eyes a little ways away from the court- and his read the same confusion. He shakes his head imperceptibly. Then Naoya turns to the King seated on the throne beside you instead. His smile leers, “My utmost gratitude for this invitation, Your Majesty. My parents send their regards.”
“Good people, good people.” Your father nods, “Their assistance during…those times of trouble shall forever remain in my memory.”
“Who are we if not united against the face of the radicals, Your Majesty?” Naoya graciously bows once more.
“Well said.” And then the King makes a sweeping gesture in your direction. “And in the future, it seems we shall be united once more.”
Naoya throws his gaze at you again, and the way he looks at you…it makes you hug your arms to yourself.
You’re unsure why your gaze had been upon Gojo at that very moment - they always did seem to find him - but you watch as his expression darkens. Darkens. Darkens. In a way you’ve never seen before, and then it’s hitting you—
“Father?”
But he ignores you, “Satoru—!” In the years that you’ve brought Gojo to court, your father had become rather fond of his rhymes and riddles as much as you were. So it wasn’t exactly surprising that he had been called upon, and Gojo’s expression switches instantly into one of foolish mirth. “Why don’t you share one of your amusing rhymes with our guest?”
“As you wish, Your Majesty.” He bows deeply. As he makes his way to the middle of the court, where Naoya and his entourage were gathered, the bells upon his blue-and-white garments jingle.
And before you know it, Gojo clasps onto Naoya’s shoulders and ensnares him with his words. “Naoya o’ Naoya, with your great riches and gait.” The corners of his lips twitch - something sharp. Gojo covers his mouth in a faux-whisper, though his words reach every single corner of the vast chamber. “Every lady here knows you take potions to compensate~”
Naoya’s face turns green then red. A furious red.
As if fearing the Prince would swing, Gojo jumps back- just in time for the hay-blond man to whirl around. “But oh, no potion shall make Prince Naoya’s rooster big—the most you ladies get will be the size of a fig~”
The jester laughs maniacally, and so does much of the court; you yourself can’t stop from letting out a startled laugh or two.
Your best friend never did hold back - perhaps because he was the only one allowed to do so without fearing the threat of the dungeons.
And Gojo watches as a giggle slips past the hand you’d brought up to cover your mouth- and his grin widens as he takes it as a challenge. Dancing around Naoya, he continues—
“Naoya is hated by the ladies of the court. Naoya is hated in his medical reports~” He trills gleefully, darting a hand out and knocking Naoya’s coronet off. “And all the ladies and all the healers, have never seen a cock this short~”
Red face now turning almost…a sickly yellow, Naoya attempts to fist-fight the jester. Though Gojo was far more agile than he looked, and he was dodging each hit with ease.
“Oh—have I offended you, Your Highness? Perhaps a change of pace…” Gojo crows. “For all Naoya hates women, he might as well court men-”
“You- you—”
“Easy, son.” Your father chuckles to himself as well, “You should do good to familiarize yourself with the Princess’s jester if you are to marry her.”
Gojo stutters- and his rhyme pauses. His eyes widen.
You feel the red, red carpet give out beneath you.
.
.
.
“I simply must…apologize for Sato- my jester, Your Highness.”
The clinking of silverware fortunately masked the waver in your tone. It was insincere and unapologetic.
Naoya maintains an expression as if he’d just smelled something unpleasant, perhaps as if it was on his very plate. The Prince cuts into his bird with far too much force than necessary, “Apology accepted.” Rather short.
Though you yourself didn’t care—you shoot a look at the ministers that were currently attempting to meld into the royal portraits on the wall.
With nervous smiles, they urge you to continue.
It was a poor imitation of a romantic dinner - as romantic as a political marriage could get.
The royal dining room had a table that sprawled nearly from one end-to-end. Polished mahogany. Intricately-carved legs. So thick that they didn’t buckle under the hundreds of dishes piled on top: soups to puddings to heart-shaped wagashi to those you couldn’t even name. Woven in-between were flickering candles and vases of red, red roses—sprouting confessions of love.
Some of those petals were even scattered across the floor.
Though the dining room could seat about four-hundred guests, right now it only seated him and you. You and your future husband.
Your future husband.
Your future husband.
Your future husband.
It still hadn’t sunk in, and you didn’t want it to.
Zenin Naoya takes a bite of his roasted bird and spits it back out. From his entourage, one of the Zenin ministers darts out with a dish to collect it.
You wrinkle your nose in distaste.
Two courts were watching this fallacy of courtship.
From your side, it was the entirety of your court save for some of the outer ladies-in-waiting and some gents, and your parents. From his side, it was Naoya’s entire entourage at his every beck, call, and swallow. Just waiting for the opportunity that their beloved Prince didn’t like anything.
Which seemed to be…everything.
You yourself can only pick at the delicacies on your plate - they’d done well to include favorites of both you and His Highness. And yet…
And yet, in the past eighteen years you’ve never sat through a dinner without Gojo at your side.
Always at your right-hand seat. Always chomping through his dinner with overexaggerated noises that made you laugh, and the ministers grimace.
How could you feel so alone surrounded by so many people, and yet lacking one?
You’re biting back a sigh.
“Pssst.”
Confused, you look up at Naoya- but he seems just as morbidly indulgent in his food as he was before. He was spitting out even more.
And so you look around—but none of the ministers nor advisors catch your eye, either.
“Psssssst.”
There it was again. Somewhat irritated and feeling your confusion growing - this dinner certainly hadn’t put you in a good mood - you’re about to excuse yourself from this social hostage-situation. Someone must be attempting to make a fool out of you. You’re resting your hands on the polished table and about to push off—
When you feel something…touch your wrist.
You’re about to scream-
“Tamper your screaming, please.”
Oh, well if they asked so nicely…
Wait-
Who?
Without making too much of a spectacle, you slide your fork off the edge of the table.
Naoya grumbles at the metallic ringing—and muttering a dainty apology, you’re leaning down to pick it up. Or so it seems.
Instead, you’re crouching yourself down and lifting the tablecloth ever-so-slightly. It’s a purple velvet, one of the finest in the land, and it opens up to reveal one of the greatest treasures this palace held. At least, in your opinion.
Gojo Satoru brings a finger up to his lips and winks. His make-up crinkling handsomely as he did so, “Do you frequent these parts?”
“I should ask the same from you.” You hiss, glancing around to make sure that no one was looking. “Satoru, what do you think you’re doing-”
“Exercising my culinary skills, my princess.” And he raises up a little velvet packet in one hand, shaking it around tantalizingly. He answers your question before you can voice it, “Just a little horseshoe, just a little wool from Yaga’s sweater, and perhaps the Prince that swallows this shall be a little sweeter~”
Your jaw drops. “You cannot be serious-”
“Never in my life have I been more serious.” Gojo replies solemnly, then with an innocent flutter of his lashes- “Forgive me for not sharing, my princess. But perhaps you would favor it as well?”
“It shan’t suit my palate.” You answer firmly.
“It’s far more palatable than what I did to the wine, trust me.” Gojo smirks.
“You rouge.”
He opens his mouth as if to say something more, but Naoya’s tone grates through the little bubble of mirth you’d formed—in less than a minute, no less. “Wife- wife.”
You and Gojo stare at one another in shock.
Wife?
One of your ministers coughs pointedly, and with a final glance at Gojo, you’re straightening in your chair. “Were you perhaps addressing…me, Your Highness?” And any smart man would have quickly backtracked at this opportunity to change their answer.
But you never claimed that Zenin Naoya was particularly smart. “My eyes don’t perceive any other woman here?” He scoffs, taking a bite of a chicken leg and then immediately spitting it out—“As for the engagement plans- eugh.”
You’re biting back a laugh as he drags out a string - seemingly from a wool…sweater…of Yaga’s - from his mouth and looks at his ministers in bewilderment.
“Th-the chef must have been in a state of pioneering.” You cough out.
Another bite he takes.
And another wad of wool he spits out.
You bring a hand up to your lips, “Perhaps you should wash it down with the wine, Your Highness? It had been brewed specifically for this occasion.”
And so he does - eyeing you all the while.
Naoya takes a big swig of his goblet and—shrieks as he finds half of a shoe inside.
One of Gojo’s very own.
That shriek is loud enough to make the walls of the dining chamber rattle; and Gojo shoots out from the side of the dining table, unable to keep his laughter in control, and dances away. “Twiddle dee, twiddle doo—Naoya coughed up a shoe~” Those double doors are still swinging as it sinks in what just happened- and your ministers and guards take a menacing step towards where the colorful intruder had disappeared.
You raise your hand to signal them to halt.
“This insolent—” Naoya was spitting with fury- unable to even formulate words. His mouth is a downturned slash, and he shoves the plate off the table. It shatters vociferously.
You notice that he’s turned a little green in the way he only seemed to do when Gojo was nearby. “My first order as King shall be to rid this incompetent kitchen-” He spits. “-and that godforsaken jester-”
Your fork clatters to the floor once again. “What’s wrong with Satoru?” You didn’t care if you sounded rather too offended by such a question. “Is it the practical jokes? I shall request that he ceases such-”
“What’s wrong? What’s wrong?” Naoya cackles to himself. “Woman, what is there not wrong about that goddamn fool? He’s- he’s—a fool.”
“For that is his duty, is it not?” You narrow your eyes at him.
“I suppose.” Naoya leans back in his chair, “But his duty is to the crown, and when I am King-”
“His duty is to me.” Before you know it, you’re standing. You’re breathing hard. You’re ignoring the ministers that attempt to hold you back. “He’s my best fri—jester.”
And you repeat…though you don’t know whether it’s more for yourself, Naoya, or the boy with the blue eyes that was once underneath the table.
“He’s mine.”
Those words fall like the blade of a guillotine.
Naoya’s eyes were spitting fire. “He’s…yours, is it?” He throws his cape back and stands, “Your Highness…I fail to understand why you entangle yourself with a mere jester?” Though the sentence itself wasn’t one particularly barbed, his distaste bled through every syllable.
“He- he is my best friend-”
“He is a jester.” Naoya says with a tone of finality. He pushes back, letting the chair clutter behind him- the brings up a palm to stop his ministers from righting it. “And a jester can never be anything to a princess. Never.”
Those footsteps of his resound louder than your heartbeat. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.
On the way to making his exit, he stops before the entrance and speaks. “We are to be engaged in six moons, and when you are my wife, I expect you to act like one.” Naoya’s gaze is deadly as he grips the door open, “My family earned our titles bringing down entire households- a mere jester is nothing to me.”
Another guillotine: this time, it’s the closing of the dining room doors.
“Your Highness-”
But you’re following Naoya out, and tears burn behind your eyes.
Just as luck - or perhaps fate - would have it, who else had been standing behind the doors listening to every word? None other than Gojo Satoru.
Though his face is downturned, and you can’t make out his expression, your heart soars at the sight of him. He’s pressed against one of the walls closest to the doors, and he clenches his fists at his sides. And you’re just about to reach out- to tell him that Naoya’s words didn’t matter- to tell him that Naoya didn’t matter—
But before you could, Gojo sharply turns to you and bows. Those bells atop his hat jingle as he does so, and he stays bowed as he asks, “This fool begs to be dismissed, Your Highness?”
Your Highness? “You…you may…” Your brows furrow, fingers trembling towards him. “But Satoru-”
And yet, he’s gone.
And you didn’t get a single look at his expression.
You wondered what you would see. You wondered what you would be hoping to see.
But no matter what it was, you knew that all you wanted to see - whether anger or mirth or irritation - was Gojo himself.
Your engagement was in six moons.
.
.
.
To your dismay, Gojo Satoru was avoiding you.
You should have realized that something was off that moment after the disastrous dinner—or perhaps when he didn’t join you to sleep, or perhaps when he hadn’t joined court in the following days. According to one of the palace staff, the jester was ill, but every attempt at a visit to his quarters ended up with you being rebuffed or diverted.
And how many opportunities for diversion there were.
The palace was a-flush with florists, and bakers, and candle-makers, and mask-designers—and orchestras upon orchestras practising for your engagement waltz.
One of those times you’d been dragged away to floral-picking for the grand engagement ball - the one that would announce your union to the entire kingdom. Another time it had been to pose for a portrait with Naoya (a particularly taxing endeavour). And another time it was to pick out the colors for your mask- this was to be an extravagant masquerade ball after all. And another time it had been to get fitted for the ballgown you’d be wearing for the night—like exactly right now.
This time, you’d gotten just past the guards stationed upon either side of Gojo’s chambers (both on his word, and to prevent the Princess from getting into any…scandalous affairs before the engagement).
And you’d cracked open the door - ever-so-slightly - only to find that what was inside…made you halt.
Gojo’s room was completely and utterly empty.
Not just of himself, but of his literature books, his shoes, his bells, his flower vases. Anything and everything that made the chamber so utterly Gojo’s, was gone. Even the braid of friendship you wove for him when you were twelve - that he kept at the very top of his jewelry box - and the flower crowns you made for him that he dried and hung from his windows—you made them rather often, before…Naoya.
He had intruded upon your idle dance between love and friendship - and you were still feeling bitter and confused as Utahime fitted you. As she wound up the hip springs of your corset- and tightened, and tightened—
“I just fail- hah, fail to understand.” You’re muttering, slightly out-of-breath.
Utahime looks up from the knots of your corset, “Your Highness?”
The royal tailor had just stepped out to aid in bringing the imported silk and cloth of gold up to your bed chambers, and in the meantime your attendants were helping tighten your numerous layers underneath. Your ballgown - engagement dress, more precisely - would be fitted on top of the base linen undergarments and the crinolines.
Tonight, you will be engaged.
And to a man that has never made you laugh once-
“Your Highness?” Utahime repeats, snapping you out of your little reverie.
“Oh- forgive me.” You nod at her in acknowledgment. “What I meant to say was, I just fail to understand what he’s thinking.”
She nods back - you didn’t have to specify who. “It is precisely as I have told you, Your Highness.” Utahime tightens a few more knots- knocks a few more breaths out of you. “That ol’ nuisance has not a single thought in his mind. You must not worry yourself too much about him.”
“Oh, but Utahime…how can I not?” You’re sure the flurry of other attendants surrounding you were listening in - smoothing down your layers, preparing your jewelry. But you didn’t care at the moment, if you did say so yourself.
“I believe it is just a little ailment, Your Highness. I fear I am not blessed enough for such a thing to prove fatal to that jester-”
You gulp. “I believe Satoru may be avoiding me.”
At that, even Utahime’s brows furrow. “Pardon?”
“His chambers have been emptied of even the flower crowns, and I haven’t even the faintest glimpse of him these past few days.” Speaking these words aloud seems to make them too real. “I believe I told you of how he overheard the conversation between Naoya and I?”
Utahime nods.
“Naoya had uttered some things- balderdash, if you ask me—” Your fists threaten to clench, but two attendants were working on your nails. Another was double-checking the measurements for your mask. Mask. “Yet I fear Satoru may have misconstrued some things…and I haven’t laid eyes on him ever since.”
There’s a silence.
Her fingers finish their final knot.
And then Utahime stands to look you squarely in the eyes. “This is Gojo Satoru we speak of, is it not?”
Slowly, unsure of where this was going, you nod.
“Then you have naught to worry about, Your Highness.” She flashes you such a beautiful smile, looking over your corset for imperfections - of course, there were none. “It is most likely that he’s skulking about these palace walls, looking for a minister to scare or a prince to embarrass.”
You’re letting out a soft huff of laughter.
“Or even…a princess to adore.”
Your eyes widen- and you’re snapping your gaze to hers. There’s a knowing expression that Utahime wears - one she often gets whenever she notices Gojo hiding in your room, or watches the two of you sneak out during royal balls.
This one, in particular, was about to be the most crowded and convoluted yet.
And you’re meeting her smile, eventually. “I thank you, Utahime…” You then look down as you hear the doors of the dressing room fly open, “But adoration cannot stop a royal engagement.”
Three sharp claps sound as the tailor gets the attention of your attendants.
“That will be all, ladies. Thank you.” And his own attendants and apprentices flood the room to take over the fitting stage—Utahime squeezes your shoulder as she leaves.
Though she doesn’t reach her bed chambers for a much-needed rest, as she might have wanted to. Instead, she’s halting right outside the entrance-
“You.”
And making sure you were occupied by the tailoring, Gojo bows dramatically. Holding his little bells so they don’t jingle- “At your service, Madam Sour-face.”
“Cease it.”
“No, I said Sour-face-”
“Forget it.” Utahime could feel a migraine coming on already at the mere sight of his impish grin.
“Sour-face Utahime with her pressure so high, one more joke and she’ll make me cry~”
Why - oh why - couldn’t the universe take as kindly to her and forbid her from seeing this man, too? She continues, “First, enlighten me as to why you’ve been giving Her Highness the cut?”
A too-innocent expression crosses his face. “Pardon? I fear I have no recollection of ever-”
“I will kill you with my bare hands and feel no ounce of guilt.”
Gojo clicks his jaw shut.
“I…” And it’s under the pressure of her unwavering glare that he finally cracks- letting out a deep sigh and dropping his head. “I plan to leave the palace.”
“Pardon?” Even she sounds utterly shocked. “When-”
“Tonight.” Gojo has never sounded more serious to her. “I have spent the past few days gathering my possessions, everything…she gifted me. As the ball starts tonight, I shall take my leave.”
“But your duties-”
“I have informed His Majesty of my decision. It seems though he shall miss the rhymes, he is keen for an amicable marriage between Her Highness and Prince Naoya. A jester can be replaced, trust in a marriage cannot—especially not one of political nature.” Utahime is almost shocked at this simple foresight, but then again- everyone always did underestimate the fool.
She watches his reaction, “And…the Princess?”
Which seems to make him flinch - as though struck. Perhaps a part of him was. “…I shall leave her a letter before I depart. Her Highness does not deserve to see such cowardice-”
“And yet you still remain.” Utahime’s words make his blue eyes snap to hers. She crosses her arms in front of her, and lets a smug smile take over her lips. “For what reason were you spying outside Her Highness’s fitting, if not to see her?”
“I—” He takes a desperate step closer. “It was simply in passing-”
“For what reason did you empty your bedroom of the flower crowns Her Highness made especially for you? Surely they shan’t prove themselves too useful on the road?”
Gojo’s eyes widened. “I…the memories-”
“For what reason have you waited until the last minute to leave? Until the last minute she shall not be yours, and yours only?”
He snarls, “She was never mine.”
“Because you believe the Princess does not deserve to base herself- being the lover of a fool yes?” When Gojo does not answer, she continues. “The fool seems to believe he knows what the Princess deserves. But does the fool know what he deserves?”
There’s a prolonged silence—of which is only punctured by the awed gasps from inside the dressing room, as the tailor and his apprentices comment on your beauty.
Gojo has the sudden, mad thought to open those doors just a little wider and see you for himself. Just one last time.
One last time.
What was he thinking?
He laughs to himself bitterly, “A jester can never be anything to a princess. Never.”
“But a princess can be everything to a jester, yes?” Utahime asks. “More importantly- who are we to dictate what a person is to another person?”
The answer was as obvious as it was painful.
Gojo Satoru loved you.
Loves you.
Something of it must show on his face, because Utahime throws him a pitiful look she’s never shared before—“You may leave if you please, I shan’t stop you.” And then she reaches out and presses a hand against the doors- they part, unlocked. “But if you wish to stay and stop acting a-fool…then follow me.”
She brushes past him.
Meanwhile Gojo looks inside and catches a glimpse of you - and he’s never seen anything more beautiful.
He runs after Utahime, bells jingling.
.
.
.
“You look…”
“How odd.”
“How startling.”
“What a change!”
Utahime crinkles her nose, “The only thing this proves is that your face is more tolerable when it is covered.” She turns to the brown-haired woman next to her, “And that my Shoko is a goddess when it comes to handiwork.”
Shoko smiles sweetly, “I have much practice making death masks.”
“I’ll say.”
As the other few attendants pendulate between laughing to themselves, and admiring Shoko’s quick work - she’d been requested just a few hours before to make a mask befitting a royal ball, and she’d finished it just in time - Gojo leans closer to the mirror.
He reaches his trembling fingers up to touch his face, “This is surely…me?”
“Unfortunately.” Utahime sighs, and she gets elbowed by Miwa.
Utahime had gathered the most trust-worthy attendants she led: Miwa, Momo, and Kugisaki from tailoring. Along with the impeccable royal healer, Shoko, who she knew would be the only one that would be able to create a mask for the ball with her expert hands. And they’d gotten to work fixing up perhaps their most difficult case yet—none other than Gojo Satoru.
The royal jester was rather fussy at first- insisting that the powder puffs and cloth wipes tickled.
Before Utahime put her foot down and announced that they weren’t going to present a ‘half-assed’ (forgive her language) marriage-wrecker to the Princess just yet.
That reminder of you kept him quiet for the rest of the make-over.
And Kugisaki had even commented, “Perhaps we ought to invoke the Princess’s name every time we need to keep the jester in line?”
“Do not tempt me.” Utahime had replied.
Gojo had shuddered.
But it really was true: he sat through the rest of the next hour or two without so much as a single rhyme or peep.
Not even when they told him to ‘pucker up’ in order to douse him in rouges and lip stains. That likely saved five years from Utahime’s life…
Gojo himself helped them scrub off his stark-white jester’s make-up. The vampiric base. The teardrops of black paint. The red, red lips—a few of his little troupe openly stared as they’d never seen the Princess’s jester without his make-up.
And Gojo himself knew that he wasn’t all that bad looking - he had noble features. A strong nose. A high set of cheekbones. A pert, pretty mouth that always looked to be on the verge of saying something he shouldn’t.
Or, at least, that was how you described him.
You were the only person that got to see Gojo without his court-deemed make-up; and you always did say he was handsome. To which he’d always bat his long, white lashes dramatically and compose you a sappy sonnet about your eyes. He supposes he knew he was decent, but…handsome?
He never saw it.
But these girls seemed determined to make him.
Cloudy hair. Delicate features. Blue eyes like a painting.
They replaced his make-up with something simpler. Gone was the cast of white, instead replaced by just a bit of rouge and shimmer. His pale brows were tamed and so was his hair - braided to the side using fragrant rose oils, with a few pieces falling handsomely over his face. All thanks to Momo, of course.
Kugisaki had dug up something from that ol’ tailor’s trunk—a snow-white cloak and doublet, along with the associated tights he often made fun of. It was a suit fit for a prince.
And it was exactly the type of suit he’d made fun of a prince for.
But here he was now - not a single difference between him and them. Or at least physically.
Gojo’s training sessions with Yaga had kept him fit; and he fit the suit perfectly. His broad shoulders were outlined against the clean cut, and his trim waist fit snugly into those damn tights—even through the suit, it was obvious he was well-built, in a way those baggy jester’s outfits never did show. Polished shoes. Silver buttons. Silver belt. Heavy silver chains and pendants that arrived with the robes.
He might even have passed for a battle-hardened Prince like this…
Momo helped him into his equally as white gloves - it seems they were sticking to a theme for him. All the better to help his eyes and his crown stand out.
Oh yes…the girls had somehow bribed Yaga into letting them sneak down to the royal treasure. For just a few minutes.
All the spoils of war and generations of wealth—and they’d come out with a crown.
It was Utahime who’d dug this one out, deciding that that would make him stand out far more than the usual hats.
Made of pure silver; the design itself was rather simple, or so it seemed at first. Only when one looked closer…when one ventured further…could you see that what seemed like a simple band was actually a wreath of silver branches and floral vines twisted into one, with sapphire-studded flowers blooming along it. One more thing had been taken from the treasury - a signet ring with a ‘G’.
“It felt proper.” Miwa, who had found the ring, beamed. “Names and titles are lost to time. And though I may not know what the ‘G’ once stood for, at least for tonight, it can mean ‘Gojo’, can it not?”
Gojo felt it getting slid onto his left hand, and he stares at the ring with furrowed brows.
He stares and stares.
He’s never felt more worthy of you.
By the time they had finished, the strings of the orchestra had started playing their opening sequence - the ball was commencing.
Utahime turns to the rest of them, “We have done well.” Then, ultimately, back to grumble at him. “…You have done well.”
And though Gojo could make up a rhyme to rile her up, though Gojo could comment that they could have done better and bask in the ensuing chaos, though he could do his mask and his mask—
He simply looks at each and every one and smiles. Sincerely. “Thank you.”
They smile tenderly back.
The final component of his outfit for your engagement ball was the mask. Though there was no set theme, Shoko had gone above and beyond to craft his in the shape of the upper-half of a snow leopard’s face. The feline gaze. The sharp ears. The faint outline of rosettes against the white mask. It was mastery.
Gojo dons it and smiles to himself. He really did feel handsome, as you had always said.
His blue, blue eyes twinkle from behind the mask.
.
.
.
“You look absolutely riveting, Your Highness.”
“I thank you.”
This was a royal ball that looked gilded. There was no other word to describe it—gilded.
Polished floors. A thrumming orchestra. Golden chandeliers had every single candle lit; and they crept halfway down to the ballroom floor as if gifted from the Sun itself. Just for you.
And that was in addition to the numerous other decorations that made even the most high-titled of guests gape in awe: the shimmering fountains that looked as if they were sprouting liquid gold, golden-dipped gardenias wreathed around the hallway, and the long table of foods were most lovely. All sorts of sweets and champagnes in honor of the union.
Guests upon guests upon guests being announced as they entered. They were dressed to impress, and there were more aristocrats gathered for this one ball than you’d seen in your entire life, perhaps.
Had Gojo been here with you, then you two would’ve had the most amusing time coming up with stories for each one.
There was Sir Gakuganji who held a secret liking for abstract dancing, here was Lord Todo whose son had fallen in love with a thousand-year-old portrait. No one would be spared. The two of you would have tucked yourself into some alcove and watched as the lavishments flew by, and when everyone was appropriately drunk you’d sneak out to the stables or to star-gaze.
Your heart clenches.
Satoru…
You attempt to shake your head free of him.
It most certainly was a beautiful ball. And if you imagined that this was one of no particular purpose, then you really could see it.
The ball was decorated to match your dress, you see.
Floor-length silk. Gold-threaded bodice.
Celestial layers upon layers.
Your uppermost skirts had gold dusting atop it; and they dazzled as you floated across the ballroom.
Your attendants had decided that going for a more simple look with the jewelry was appropriate - it would accentuate the simple gold circlet atop your head. A single sapphire embedded into the middle of it.
Naoya had sneered at the choice, of course. When doesn’t he? But this time, he was particularly offended at the presence of a sapphire rather than the Zenin family’s signature blood-red rubies.
You refused to make your attendants change it. You donned your cat-like mask with pride.
Perhaps that’s why he seemed keen on ignoring you in favor of a group of other beautiful court ladies in attendance—though you honestly couldn’t imagine anything different happening had the two of you been married, as well. You sighed inwardly.
You’re nodding in acknowledgement as Prince Okkotsu Yuta nears with a man beside him.
He looked older - about your father’s age, if not a few years older. Tall. Toned - in the way of someone that had one been corded with muscle, but had since lost it to age. Bearing an ice-white beard and a row of silver medals proudly lining his chest—he stands before you in his off-white uniform and bows. It was obvious that the man was rather handsome, drawing eyes from around the ballroom.
But what catches your eye the most were his eyes.
Summer-sky blue eyes.
They reminded you of—
“My uncle, Michizane, Your Highness.” Yuta introduces him. “This is his first time in the palace since…”
Your voice drops into something hushed. “I understand.” Turning to the general, you’re half-bowing once more. “I am rejoiced to welcome you into my home, any troubles that we may have had in the past-”
“Have naught to do with the present, Your Highness.” Michizane graciously nods at you. “And most certainly have naught to do with the beloved princess.”
You manage a smile.
“And if you can excuse my being so impudent…it is precisely what I sought this occasion for, Your Highness.” He looks over the bustling crowd, now getting ready to waltz- and seemingly catches the eye of your father. Your father who now looked as though he’d just seen a walking dead man. “I hope to bury the misunderstandings between my family and your father, and understand what happened to my younger brother and his family. It had proved itself to be both a blessing and a curse that I had been on an excursion during those troubled times. And I seek a resolution for the sake of my inner peace, if nothing else.”
You’re nodding in agreement. “It is most tragic what happened. For the sake of borders…nothing is worth so much. And I cannot ask for your mercy enough-”
“It is not something I shall ever be able to forgive. But you are not at fault, dear princess.” Michizane smiles conclusively, but not unkindly.
“And yet, I have been wracked with guilt ever since.” You ultimately reply.
Though you hadn’t met Michizane previously, you had learned that the history between your families was a long and bloody one. His family had been of a royal bloodline, of kingdoms now lost and eviscerated into neighboring ones - including yours. And you knew it was partly the fault of your kingdom. And although royal tutors justified and justified away your father’s actions—you could see past them
“Perhaps…” Michizane is the one to break through your whirlwind of thoughts. He reaches his gloved hand out, a silver signet ring on his middle finger. “-a dance to commence the burying of our animosity?”
“But of course.”
As the orchestra starts up a lively tune, Michizane whisks you away onto the dance floor. Much to the horror of some of your elderly ministers, of course, who gaped at the mere presence of the man.
And at the fact that your first dance wasn’t with the Prince.
But laughter bubbles to your throat as Michizane twirls and swirls you—sways you smoothly around and around the dance floor. He was one of the best dancers you’ve ever encountered, and you’re smiling appreciatively at him once the song comes to a close.
From the corner of your vision, you spot the black-and-red-clad Naoya storming his way over to you. And you hurry to beg a second dance when-
A title is announced - louder than all the rest.
A prince.
Prince…you don’t hear the name.
But you don’t need it.
Because you’re looking up at the grand staircase from which guests made their entrance, hand-in-hand with their partners or followed by their entourages. This one had neither. This one was one of the most beautiful men you think you’ve ever seen.
He looked like something from a story.
Snow-white mask. Snow-white suit. He was tall and clearly toned - but there was something in his demeanor that made him seem almost…dainty. He gripped the balustrade of the landing and looked over the glistening ball- barely even breathing, it seemed like. And he looked content to remain there in awe, before the chief butler reading out the named coughs- pointedly.
The man startles.
He looks over at the chief butler, and then nods jerkily to himself. In self-assurance.
Cautiously, he makes his way down to the ball.
And the closer he gets, the more of his details you’re taking in: like the traces of signature silver on his suit, and the way his fingers trembled ever-so-slightly.
He looked just like the princes you’d read about in fairytales - the ones you imagined as a child before you happened to meet a real-life prince.
Curls of white could be seen behind that snow leopard mask of his. They contrasted oh-so-beautifully with the blue, blue sapphire atop his crown.
Just like his eyes.
Your breath hitches-
“I believe I may have been monopolizing you, Your Highness.” Michizane whispers as the Prince nears.
“Pardon?” You look at him- but he merely smiles.
Before you know it, the mysterious guest has neared enough to give the two of you a jerky bow. His tone tremors ever-so-slightly as he asks, “P-permission for the next dance, Your Highness?”
Michizane nods at you reassuringly.
“I would be delighted.” You breathe, and then he’s taking your hand in his—gently. A touch even softer than the fabric of his tender, tender gloves.
“I bid you a good evening, Your Highnesses.” Michizane tips his hat, “And do take care of the lovely princess…” Before turning to the younger man…his brows furrow the longer he looks-
But a lady-in-waiting taps Michizane’s arm for a dance—and he’s made to turn away.
And you’re left alone.
With him.
Naoya stuck with some other lady-in-waiting as you put your hand…tentatively on the other man’s right shoulder. He lets out a shaky breath, as if your mere touch was replenishing his soul—and he doesn’t move away. Then you let your second hand get grasped - gently - in his own.
Backward with your right foot.
Sideways with your left foot.
Backwards.
Sideways.
Backwards.
Sideways.
It’s halfway into the song, pressed closed to his thundering chest, that you finally break the silence. “The crown suits you…Satoru.”
Gojo flinches, “You discovered-”
“You did not seriously think you could fool me?” You smile. He mirrors it- albeit sheepishly. “Gojo Satoru, how could I possibly be gulled? You have been my dearest friend since I was eight-”
He twirls you in the middle of the ballroom.
And you continue. “-and the one I hold closest to heart.” Looking deep into his blue, blue eyes.
Gojo sighs, “Words cannot describe how beautiful you are, my princess. The least this fool can do is but dress to impress.”
“You look particularly dashing this evening as well, Satoru. You always do.” Surprise makes his lips part—and you’re leaning in. Though they do not touch, you hear gasps from the onlookers. “You look like a Prince.”
“And you look like my dreams.”
The two of you dance for a second song, and a third, and a fourth. Without letting Naoya gain any entryway between you two - that non-existent space - you two dance the night away—dizzy with nothing but the proximity.
The realization that you could be so…close as long as no one found out. That you couldn’t be closer.
That you could.
That you needed to.
By the time that most of the guests had well and thoroughly indulged themselves in the bubbling champagne and wine, the clock had struck midnight—and you and Gojo disappear into the night once no one’s looking. Through the small passageway where the two of you had first met, then up a few flights of staircases, breathless and giddy, you’re lucky there were no guards stationed outside your bed chambers as the ball raged on.
And you’re opening the door and falling into the vast bed with him.
Your hands on his lapels. His hands on your waist.
You’re both letting out synchronized grunts as your back hits the springy mattress, and Gojo’s letting out a scorching breath that fans your face. That sets your skin searing.
“We ought not to…” You whisper- and then you’re pressing your lips down his neck. Illuminated by the moonlight filtering through the windows.
“I am of the same thought.” He responds, in an equally hushed tone - as if anything louder would shatter this fragile dream. It most certainly must be a dream, yes? This was all you’ve ever wanted- and him. “And yet—”
And yet, Gojo places a hand on the back of your neck, and guides your mouth to his.
He kisses you loooong and deep- and inexperienced. You both are.
You’re chuckling as you tug his lips open with yours - letting Gojo’s sultry tongue slide inside your wet cavern. He drags his tastebuds inside and moans—
And after kissing you and kissing you as if starved for eons—
Until your lips were buzzing.
Until his hot hips were crushing into yours.
—you let your fingers fall to his silver buttons. Rapidly undoing them.
“My princess.” The jester wrenches deep from his chest - guttural and gone. There was a crazed hint in his tone already. “Allow me…”
And before you know it, he guides your hips to rest back on the king-sized mattress. Sapphire eyes boring deeply into yours- Gojo hands you his crown to hold, as he hovers himself down and unravels the first few layers of your gown.
His fingers are quick- nimble.
And it takes him far shorter an amount of time to rid you down to your undergarments than it takes your careful attendants. Desperate. Depraved. Soon enough, you’re feeling goosebumps prickle across your skin at the bite of cold midnight air; your chemise and undergarments were much too thin.
And soaked.
Utterly, utterly soaked.
But Gojo’s face flushes - almost hard enough to warm your skin through sheer proximity. He admires your sopping cunt through your panties, he leans down and presses his nose right where your clit would be. And then he sniffs—
“Fuck.”
He almost jolts. Reaching in and tearing through your undergarments with his teeth.
“Fuh-fuck.”
The noise that expels from him is almost unbidden- and its primal tone is enough to make your toes curl. Wide-eyed and open-mouthed, he stares at your swollen folds. He stares at your glossy slit.
He stares and stares as slick beads out of you in a pretty stream—and before Gojo’s own mind seems to register, he’s muffling a hot moan between your naked legs. Immediately shoving himself nose-deep.
His chin thwacks! the top of your sopping slit, and his tongue wastes no time darting inwards.
Your entrance is so wet that he has no trouble easin’ his thick muscle inside- despite its impressive girth. And then immediately zig-zagging his sensual inches fucking in—aaaaaaall along your walls and driving the curvaceous tip of his tongue into every little ridge and cranny. Fat. Trembling with need.
“Yes, my princess.” Gojo’s managing between husky breaths- each scorched out against where you were most sensitive. “Yes, my princess-”
“S-Satoru—” Your hand’s reaching down to twist your fingers into his snow-white locks.
You’re giving him a particularly hard pull and he groans-
“My princess…” That ocean gaze of his is half-lidded and hypnotized, flickering right up to bore into your eyes as he gluttonously propels his tongue even deeper. “I cannot live if I do not make you mine.”
Your feet plant on either side of his shoulders- a steadfast pedestal. For you to buck your hips and shove your drivelling cunt against his mouth, “Then what deters you, jester?”
Gojo’s chuckle is dark and deepened with lust. “Nothing, Your Highness.”
He’s moving his tongue in and out of your hole at such a frenzy.
This was the night of your royal engagement, and you’re here getting eaten out by your jester—
“Does it vex you that this lowborn jester has finally gotten his hands on the princess’s pretty pussy?” He gurgles out into your arching core, the wads of your sap slipping between his lips—and then back out as he licks. “Perhaps not you…but surely those godforsaken ministers that must have hoped for a more…royal touch….”
And licks and licks and licks—“Y-you keep running that mouth, Sato-”
“Jester, remember?” He grins. “Pray tell, Your Highness, am I the first?”
He must know the answer. He surely must- he’s been at your side for the past eighteen years…and you yourself were aware that you were his first, too.
Yet you find your lips moving before your mind does. And you whimper, “Y-yes…”
“Pardon, my princess?”
“Yes-”
Gojo drags the doughy patches of his fingertips across your clit.
“Then you grant this lowly fool the deepest and most precious honor.”
It was an honor.
An honor to eat your pretty core—to press his puckered lips against your folds in such a sensual kiss- one that would make even the most scandalous of court ladies faint. To part those tender pussylips and dive his tongue inside- every single inch that thrusts away at a vigorous pace. Stuffing you from the hilt of his tastebuds, to that flexible tip that swirled to n’ fro-
Gojo had his face pressed up so closely - so deeeeep - that parts of his features were rubbin’ red. Covered in slick. Dripping with it.
And yet he was only scouring deeper- deeper- fucking deeper until your pelvis was crushed against his hungry maw. Crushed. “And this fool is grateful- so very, utterly grateful.” His tastebuds were going in nearly till those sweetened soft spots you loved so much in those solitary moments in the privacy of your baths, yet he flares his tongue till he’s stretchin’ you out even more. “I shall do anything for you, my princess- anything—I live to serve you-”
Gojo’s honed canines nip at your clit.
“And this pussy.”
And serving you, he is.
With every fibre of his being. With every part of him that could reach you—he’s eating you out like such an animal, as if he was going fucking frenzied on your cunt.
The tip of his nose massaging your clit. That left hand of his fastening to your waist and dragging you right back n’ forth even deeper.
“And th-this fool deserves not such a privilege-” He whispers, mostly to himself. Though his wide, lust-glazed eyes maintain contact with yours, “This fool deserves nothing. And yet…yet, I care not if they happened to enter this chamber right now- I would gladly get thrown in the gallows for this greed, for a second taste.”
Wide-eyed - almost crazed - he tugs his wet tongue uuuuup the middle of your slit, and almost up to your navel. “In fact, I beg of it.”
And his other hand…
Oh, Gojo’s other set of fingers smear the puddle of slick that spreads from your core- all along your inner thighs and making its way down your calves. He collects it all.
Every single drop.
And then, like the most precious of mead, he brings those wettened fingertips up to his mouth and sucks. Savors. Gojo’s eyes flutter closed and his Adam’s apple bobs with ecstasy - “She tastes like she yearns for more.”
“You understand?” You’re asking, half-bemused.
“I speak seven languages, Your Highness.” Gojo replies, “One of which is pussy—” Then with his flattened tongue, he laps up the rest of the satiny ribbons escaping you- before flicking his eyes to the mountain of pillows piled behind you. “My princess, might I request that you procure a little treasure I have left underneath your favorite pillow?”
“A little treasure…?” Almost dazed, you reach underneath and your fist closes around something soft and bell-decorated. One of his jester’s hats.
“A long, long night beside the princess left this poor fool forgetting—the hat bestowed upon me by the princess, I should be getting~” Gojo trills- whilst he still lavishes his heated, horny lips across your swollen cunt. “But if the princess puts it upon my head, she can be as pushy- as she wishes as I eat this royal pussy~”
Your jester is speaking rhymes between your legs?
“Oh, sometimes your mouth is overworked.” You’re harrumphing at the overjoyed jester - once you’re unceremoniously dumping the cap n’ bell onto Gojo’s head.
Grinning, he bites down on the expensive tip of his right glove and tugs it off.
He makes quick work fastening that behind his ears, before nudging your hands to grasp onto the floppy ‘ears’ on top. Your sole source of balance as he leans in and eases one of his long fingers inside- then two—then teasin’ a third.
As he shovels in oblong inches into your sopping cunt, pushin’ apart your tender folds and letting his padded tips find their way inside. And inside.
In and out.
“Please-” You breathe heavily as he quickens the pace after a few squelching thrusts. His middle finger was the longest, and it was spreading you apart the deepest—fuck, it was just so soft inside. So welcoming. So tight that you were clenchin’ around him almost hard enough to make his poor digits snap- and the mere thought makes Gojo hard enough in his trousers that he wants to cream them right away-
You’re clamoring onto your elbows suddenly, “Y-you cannot be serious, Satoru…”
Oh, had he said that out loud? It seems he’d said that out loud. And yet, without even a hint of regret in his grin- Gojo hums. “A jester shan’t ever lie to his princess.” Those kiss-bitten lips of his purse with a wad of spittle that lands gently between your pussylips, “Or his pussy.”
“Your pussy?” You ask- before the breath’s suddenly knocked out of you as he starts driving a third finger in this time. Properly.
Stretching you out to the maaaaaximum.
The globular ends of his fingers edging in, in, in—he doesn’t just remain pistoning them vertically. Gojo’s rude in the sense that he’s hooking them right below where you needed him the most.
Throbbing, thumping; your g-spot was most certainly aching for him.
But that was exactly the problem- and Gojo’s smile grows wicked as he keeps thrusting his three fingers into your cunt. “J-just the slightest bit…fuck, to the left, jester.”
“If the princess may still utter a sentence, then this poor jester must go harder on her entrance~” He croons. Swabbin’ into every good spot except for that one - your favorite - he suckles on your sensitive nub. “What deters you from claiming what you seek, hm? Use me, Your Highness.”
Your teary eyes snap open. When had you even closed them? “Use?”
“Use me.” Less of a demand- more of a live-saving plea. Gojo was so far gone by this point that his hardened hips were ruttin’ against the luxurious mattress with every swipe of his tongue, “Claim what you wish. Use me- use me—”
And as he wishes, you’re lightly tugging on the points of his jester hat to keep him pressed against you-
But that wasn’t enough for him.
“I beg of you—this lowly fool begs…” As his right hand shapes out the tight, tight channel of your cunt - Gojo reaches his other hand up to grasp your own- to make you clutch his cap n’ bells even tighter. Hard enough for his fingernails to leave marks- and he needs you to be just as rough. “Fucking use me like the princess you are. The princess that saved me.”
He ruts even more suddenly- he must be painfully hard now.
“Claim my lips. Claim my tongue- claim every fibre of my being to be used by you…” A low snarl snatches from the back of his throat. “-just claim me as yours, as I have claimed you, my princess.”
And then you’re knocking that stupid little hat off his head- and fisting your hands in his hair once more to crush Gojo’s pretty, pink lips against your cunt. Arching off the mattress, you were just bucking and bucking your treacly pussy all over his face.
Stringing yourself through the shockwaves of pleasure that kept pouring up your legs - like warm water. Gojo was just salivating in-between them.
He doesn’t even have the time to breathe—and you’re getting the distinct feeling that he didn’t want to. Couldn’t even make himself think of anything else but dragging four - now four - fingers between those swollen-shut lips and thud-thud-thudding into your g-spot. “Good princess.” He hisses between clenched teeth, “Gooooood princess-”
“Keep quiet, jester.” You’re feeling yourself get slowly overcome by primal desperation.
“As you wish, mistress~” And Gojo’s never been happier- lashing and lashing those ridged tastebuds inside until your walls buzzed with the texture. “Mmmm.”
And soon enough, you’re feeling your legs start to twitch- in the way they did whenever you had your fingers stuffed deep in the baths- “Oh.” By this point, Gojo was aiming to intrude four fingers and his slippery tongue between your pussylips.
Swirlin’ and swirlin’ it—tap-tap-tapping it over that first tight ring of muscle.
His greed sickened you- and made you even wetter. And with a forceful tug of those angelic strands of his, you’re staring deep into Gojo’s eyes - fluttering desperately as he fights not to detach himself with your wet pussy. He doesn’t.
And he’s accelerating his fingers hitting the bullseye—
“I-I feel I shan’t last very long, Sato- jester.” You’re hissing, eyes threatening to shut as the white-hot pleasure keeps wracking through you.
With his spit-glossed lips wrapped around your clit, he hums. “Mmm?”
“Oh.” You hunch into him. “Repeat that.”
“Mmmmm—” Gojo elongates his nearly-feline rumbles, and then his lips quirk up- into a grin you recognize as being a signature of when he gets a devious idea.
One sure to ruin courts and leave you amused - though you’re sure that you’re the sole one being ruined right now.
He’s nuzzling his face ever-deeper against your cunt, then muffles out an entire sentence - what you assume to be a rhyme - whilst he keeps his mouth sucklin’ on your clit. Making the sensitive bursts of pleasure explode twofold behind your eyes- you’re seeing stars as he repeats it—again, and again, and again and again and again—
Gojo often did love repeating a joke if it managed to make you laugh exceptionally hard.
However, now you were all but crying out for mercy. Your chin trembles as you keen out Gojo’s name in a lingering echo, “I-I really shan’t- oh…” No matter how many years of royal diction or elocution you’ve endured, it couldn’t mask the way your voice cracks on the tail end of your sentence.
Almost pathetically so.
And soon enough, Gojo’s finding his witty mouth stuffed full- fucking you through your high.
Tongue flicking in and out. Teeth grazing over your clit.
He alternates between letting his tastebuds enter your pussy as well—and then letting his doughy digit take over as he suckles on your clit. Like the sweetest thing in the world. “Mmmm.” Repeating his little rhymes over and over- interrupted only by the noisy slurps! of him sucking on your nub- and the embarrassing little whimpers as he was wrenched by you.
Side-to-side. Up and down.
You’re moving him wheeeeeerever you wanted- and he was in heaven as pain sears from his scalp.
You grip onto his braid, and another lock of his hair, as handlebars to prolong your wave of pleasure. The bliss stabs through you white-hot as he presses deeeep into your g-spot. “I haven’t felt anything like this- hah, before, Satoru…”
“Your jester aims to please.”
Your orgasm makes you shiver. It rattles past your walls - where the pounding was most prevalent - and then up your spine to make your head pound with pleasure—the curling of your toes, the fluttering of your lashes, the way you’re letting escape the sweetest soft moans; sweeter than any orchestra downstairs. Gojo memorizes it all.
Through peak after peak.
Through thrust after thrust.
And as the crescendo comes to a close, he parts with your pussy—a pointed squelch! emanates from the connection. “Though the back of this Princess’s pussy I did knock, Her Royal Highness still yearns for the jester’s cock~”
Your mouth gapes, “Do not tell me that was the rhyme you have been repeating this entire time?”
“As you wish, I shan’t.” He grins. And then Gojo’s raising himself to his haunches- shrugging off his cloaks and his coats. “Perhaps another? From all the princes and lords to pick, our beloved Princess yearned for the jester’s di-”
“Another word and you shall be turned out.” You warn him, albeit half-heartedly.
“Now that doesn’t rhyme, Your Highness.” Gojo faux-pouts. With a few more tugs and pulls - he really didn’t understand how you aristocrats wore this on every occasion - he’s ridding himself of his upper garments and his trousers.
Though you’ve seen the royal jester shirtless time and time again, his perfectly-toned body made your eyes bulge.
And then finally the linen undergarments that presented him—Gojo Satoru’s long cock, hot and rock-hard.
He was engorged till he looked fit to burst - with his mushroom-curved tip blushin’ an angry red, and his veins popping out down his shaft. So prominent that you could almost count every throb-throb-throb!
Gojo’s tip glistens wetly with precum, capping the top of his cock and just oozing like a lacquer down every inch. Almost eight inches, if you’re mentally counting correctly.
He wraps a single hand around his thickened base- rustling the soft curls decorating his pelvis. Spreading out in an alluring pattern—Gojo then uses his other hand to nudge your thighs apart. Hamstrings stretching. Toes curling. Making sure they’re pinned to the springy mattress before he inches his red-hot cock closer.
There’s a resounding squeeeeelch! as he smears the very first, readied inch down your opening crevice.
“Easy there, Your Highness.” Gojo’s breath hatches with a moan. “Easy- hah…”
“I am no steed, Satoru.”
“You speak the truth, my princess.” He shoots you a ravishing smile- hungry. He really did look ready to eat you. Ready to shovel his entire length in.
Ready to break—himself. Fuck.
He was breaking himself.
A mere few inches are entering past that first ring of muscle-
And you’re arching your back into his chiselled chest. “Oh h-heavens…” It leaves you and mixes with the broken grunts n’ gruffs that were leaving Gojo just as equally, just as desperately, as he keeps your hips pushed into the bed and siiiiinks his cylindrical length inside.
It’s like nothing your royal tutors had lectured you upon - down to the fact that all those awkward anatomical lessons were for your wedding night with a prince, no less.
You feel a pearl of red escape you—and you embrace him with weakened limbs. “Satoru-”
“H-heaven is correct.” Gojo hiccups out. Was he still stuck on that you’d uttered earlier- had he even heard anything more? And were there…tears twinkling at the edges of his lashes?
Before you can finalize an answer, you’re mewling at the slight resistance of your cunt. Gojo’s cock was oh-so-girthy—more than you might have expected, and seemed to be throbbing even bigger with every second he was mazin’ himself inside you.
And he feels the shift immediately- he’s affected by it immediately.
His handsome jaw grits. His chest caves with a sudden groan. He turns his half-lidded eyes downwards, and using both overlarge hands he grips each of your asscheeks.
Those pretty, princely features of his twist into something agonized- as Gojo arches his sculptured back and drives his cock inside. “Please-” Your best friend pants out. “Please, please, please, please—h-haven’t I served you well, Your Highness?”
“You would be correct…?” You’re answering him- head foggy because of the sudden flurry of semi-thrusts.
In and out. In and out. He was buried just a few inches past his sensitive slit - and the small tremors of your cunt meant that he was thrown to ecstacy every few split-seconds.
Gojo seemed to be growing longer than you remembered seeing him.
Gojo seemed to be pulsing even thicker-
“Th-then…shan’t this lowly fool be rewarded with a single inch…?” He mumbles- sounding utterly drunk. And it wasn’t just his slurring tone and his tapering sentences that gave you that impression - but Gojo had his face pressed into the crook of your neck, and his hot tongue gliiiiiding up your sweaty neck. “A mere inch, my princess-”
You buck- and even that seemed far too much for the pussydrunken jester.
For he’s digging his crescent-shaped nails into your soft flesh and dragging you back into him - hitting his hips with a resounding thwack! “No- no, please don’t leave, Your Highness.” He begs—fucking begs.
“I-I am not—oh.” Another blustering thrust that leaves your deepest innards probed.
“If you wish me to cease- then just say the word. And I shall heed every syllable.” Gojo murmurs, his sapphire eyes threatening to shut with the hypnotic squeeze. With his pure need. With the urge to feel himself from the outside- and considering how big he was, he’s sure he’d manage to. “But please- please, do not leave me. Th-this pussy has been my deepest, darkest desire ever for f-far too long.”
Your eyes widen, “How long…exactly?”
Those plump, rose-pink lips of his graze yours as soft as a feather. “Ever since I knew what it was…and I woke up with quite the ah- rock-hard situation. I had never left your chamber faster, Your Highness- what if the attendants witnessed it?”
You moan as one of his hands lifts off your ass to thumb aside your sultry pussylips. Lovingly full.
“What if they were aware how feverishly I desired you?”
They were just glued with sap- it makes him break off a moan.
“What if- hngh, what if they could see through me—a lowborn mutt- eager to dirty the precious princess?”
Gojo stares so long and lovingly at your slightly-ajar cunt—so lovingly, that his mouth ends up watering. He continues, “To dirty you…to corrupt you.” A stream of spittle leaks from the corner of his lips, and it ends up dapplin’ over your folds.
“To- hah, fuck you.”
Your jester roves his hips closer - smearing the translucent liquid using his hips. Aaaaaaall over as he nudges and nudges his rounded, reddened tip deeper inside - taking over your cunt little by little.
Stars flash behind your eyelids, and in that opportunity, Gojo had reached over to take the crown that he’d donned for the ball. Your engagement ball. And he was promptly caressing the top of your scalp with it, placing it atop your beautiful head—you suited his colors.
Gojo lets out something that sounded more like a prayer: “To fuck you with the crown on, has always been this fool’s most embarrassing wish.”
He’s finally bottoming out.
Finally. And it’s a sensation like none other.
Gojo’s cock was stretching you out in ways you’ve never felt before; managing to mold your channel to his measurements. And his hammers were just so sensual—slow, semi-thrusts so that he can fit himself inside. “Please-” Inside and inside. “Please, please- this lowly jester knows every secret and preference of yours, my princess.”
Your heels are digging into the gorgeous dimples at the base of his spine. “Yes, oh…”
“Every- single- inch—” And you’re being propelled in short jerks upwards- those ancient royal bedsprings protesting. As much as you were begging for more. Your hands drag down his creamy-white back, leaving bloodied marks- and that only leaves him pulsating even harder inside you. Gojo’s blossomed tip had contentedly filled you up till your cervix - “In ways those ministers would- hah, wring my neck over.”
“I would never let them.” You’re spitting out.
“And yet…” Gojo leans down to whisper. “That only made this fool yearn for it- more-” A few more pressurized thrusts, and every prominent vein of his massages your spots oh-so-perfectly. As he pushes n’ pushes he continues babbling, “Please let it fit inside-” His lips tremble with a whimper. “Please let it fit inside—”
Shock strangles your words, “S-Satoru, you’re already inside.”
“P-pardon?” He almost stutters his hips - before he likely realized that your syrupy-sweet cunt was far too heavenly for him to merely linger. And he’s thrusting away like an animal.
Nodding, “Satoru, I promise—” Eyes scrunching together at the incredible sensations of him stretchin’ you out, hitting into your every nook, letting his velvety tip glide across your tenderest area - that g-spot. “You’ve succeeded your fantasy.” Your legs tighten around his slender waist, “Promise.”
Gojo’s chin hits his chest.
And he’s staring down at where the two of you glossily connect—“O-oh…” Gojo’s mouth looked so delicious like this - you almost wanted to bite him - as an expression of cute surprise takes over him.
And all of a sudden, it’s as if he’s simply melting…
Into your arms. Into your cunt. Gojo’s honey-dipped tip probes into your cervix, and instead of even ramming away - he’s merely draaaaagging and swirlin’ the bulbous edge of him around. Again and agaaaaain. The texture of his flared ridge was something incredible, and it knocks n’ grinds against hidden spots of nerves. “I finally have you, Your Highness.”
You’re feeling your heart pound at his confession - oh-so-tender. Even when he was fucking you deep into the plush mattress.
“You have never not, my jester.” You’re admitting back up at him.
The most beautiful smile graces his face- and Gojo’s feeling quite unfairly about all this. So he’s slitherin’ his right hand between your legs and spankin’ your neglected clit.
Those slight brushes of his bushy happy trail weren’t enough—now he was twiddling and turning such dizzying patterns atop that sweet, sweet nub. Watching your every minute expression, he hums. “Beautiful through anger, happiness and shock, yet the Princess looks prettiest on my cock~”
“You fiend.” You’re swatting his chest.
Only for him to gather up those weak legs of yours and bend you into a mating press- a mating press. Muscular thighs against your thighs. Your knees against your tits.
Gojo keeps his forehead pressed against yours as he drills away, “Though this lowly fool may be poor with the manners of a pig, aren’t you happy to have a cock that’s actually big~?”
And that…you have to admit that that one actually draws a laugh out of you.
And just as soon as the bubbling noise emerges from your lips-
Gojo’s body seems to collapse. His hips seem to falter. His cock thunks at the back of your womb, sending your teeth chattering, and lets out a throb-throb so hard that you feel it louder than your own heartbeat.
Your eyes shoot open, “S-Satoru…?”
“I-I am quite alright, Your Highness. Naught to worry about.” Though there was something thoughtful behind his eyes, “It is simply…”
And only after a few more thrusts—after a few more rub-a-dubs of his thumb…fingers now so jittery on your cunt that he’s teasin’ you with his silver signet ring, too.
The smooth metal makes you keen-
“For all the horses and all the men, could not pull the fool out of his princess again.” He near-tentatively utters. It could be heard only slightly above the smacking of skin-on-skin, of his hips practically plastered onto yours, and you can’t help it - you’re startled into a laugh.
“P-pardon?” You speak through both moan n’ giggles.
“Oh…” Meanwhile, Gojo was absolutely shattering. He was drooling. He was—fuck, he was tearing up. And great globules of tears were hitting the edge of your shoulder.
Gojo’s rubbin’ himself raw- he’s wracking his brain a mile a minute just for a new verse to come up with.
Something that will make you laugh.
Something that will make you squeeze your tremoring thighs ‘round him.
Something that will make you clench—and it’s such a startling, tight sensation that damn-near sends him hurtling straight into his high. But he can’t cum before you - of course, he can’t. What good jester possibly ever could? Before his princess no less?
Gojo accelerates his hips until tears start clinging onto his long lashes, and his cocktip starts twitchin’ out of pure oversensitivity.
And so he keeps on repeating—rhyme after rhyme, botched whimper after whimper. Each one more ragged than the last. Your jester was making you whine with laughter as he fucked you- whispering in your ear in aaaaaall the dirty ways one perhaps shouldn’t to a princess.
He fucks you like an animal.
It’s the final note you’re hearing - ‘—no prettier princess than thee.’ - as your sudden high takes you by surprise. Legs shaking. Back arching. You’re squeezing him tighter than ever as the white-hot pleasure courses through you.
Thrumming your every vessel and vein.
Thrusted deeper into you with every one of his- they seem to burst pretty fireworks inside your now-emptied head. Nothing but lust inside it.
And it doesn’t take much for Gojo to topple into his orgasm, as well. He shakes- he stutters…“C-cumming…” Breathlessly. Large tears were puddlin’ at the crook of your neck, dampening your skin more than your perspiration. “And I cannot think of a more appropriate home.”
“Should you sire an heir, they shall have your head.” You’re whispering to him - a smile on your face.
“But you forevermore have my heart.”
“Rake.”
“For you only, my princess.”
That bawling divot atop his shaft keeps floodin’ out a constant stream of cum—hot-white and lacquering your insides. Every single burst of cum made him twitch- letting out the prettiest erotic whines. “My princess—solely for you.”
“More.” You murmur gutturally. “More- more.”
“More…deep inside.” Lovingly, he’s patting at your bloated pussy. “Just for my princess.”
Until your walls were almost heavy with the condensation of his sap, and after only a few thrusts of his shaft- it was pouring out of you almost like a waterfall.
Between the crevice of your puffy pussylips, you feel it drip-drip-dripping out of you. Eventually formulating a little froth of creamy white ‘round Gojo’s swollen base - a few globules that he’s smearing with a thumb and pushing right back into you. A thumb stuck right between your folds. “A-and where do you believe you are putting your hands, Satoru?”
“Simply giving my princess everything she deserves…” He leans down to nibble on your soft ear lobe. “And right on her engagement night, as well.”
You’re moaning as he tugs on your clit a few more times.
“Happy engagement, Your Highness.” The jester speaks, as he fucks his cum into you harder than ever.
You end up babbling for a few minutes longer, before the sudden sparks of your high start bating- and Gojo himself starts finally slowing his hips down.
“Mmmm…” You reach up and clasp him by the back of his neck, sweaty, with his hair curled at the name. You whisper into his mouth, “My greatest pleasure, to be engaged to you, Prince Gojo Satoru.”
There’s a long stretch of silence - still thrusting - before he mutters.
“I really do wish I could marry you…” Summer sky-blue eyes shuttering into the kiss—
“Satoru.”
“—my princess.”
.
.
.
“Zenin Naoya.”
The young man whirls around - and his nose crinkles in distaste as an older man enters the royal guests’ quarters.
No union had been announced.
The engagement ball had long since ended, and you had even long since disappeared with some prince- some jester, as he had discovered through ballroom gossip.
The fucking jester.
Naoya knew he should have gutted him after that dinner.
But alas, once he arrived outside your royal bed chambers to finish off the job- he’d been blocked by your personal guards from entering. That damned General Yaga had threatened that a single step closer could constitute an attempt at treason- treason?
Accusing him of treason? Did he not know who Naoya was?
General Yaga hadn’t budged. And thus, Naoya had no choice left but to retire to his own guest’s quarters.
Alone and angry until morning arrived.
He had just settled with the thought of enacting his own taste of justice today- he shall lure some of the ministers to your bed chambers, perhaps falsifying an ailment you’d befallen under, before Gojo can escape. And once they discover that that lowborn jester had sullied the Princess- dungeons it is for the fool.
And oh-so-generous Prince Zenin Naoya shall agree to marry even a ruined maiden.
Then comes the crown. Then the titles, the land, the power.
The woman shan’t be too bothersome, either, at least you were easy on the eyes. Even if the jester had gotten his hands on you first.
And ah…perhaps he shall throw out this court and your father along with it? That’s if he was in a good mood - and it was the original plan, after all…
Or perhaps he shall stage a coup of which your father had ‘led’ and enact justice as King- yes…a royal hanging should seem righteous enough. The jester shall be first.
This was justice.
Naoya had just been in the middle of writing a letter to inform his father of this change of plans, when a knock-knock-knock thundered from the door. The broad, bearded man on the other side of it hadn’t waited for him to answer before coming inside.
“May I…help you?” He stands. Had this seemed like any old guard or minister, then Naoya would not have hesitated to draw his sword- but this was clearly someone of high status. Of numerous battle accomplishments.
And his eyes dip down to the silver scabbard at his waist…
This was clearly someone potent.
“I have arrived with a proposition.” The bearded man invites himself to sit down on the very chair that Naoya had been at work at.
Naoya’s eyes narrow, “Of what kind? Do I look like an errand boy to-”
“Of the kind I am aware your family is quite expert at.” Those words held such a dark weight to them—and he doesn’t take his eyes off of the Prince for a single second as he utters. “To be frank, I must request the ah…removal of Prince Okkotsu Yuta from the throne.”
That makes the royal straighten. “Find yourself a common mercenary-”
THUNK—!
From underneath his coat, the visitor pulls out a hefty bag - so large that Naoya wonders just how it had remained obscured for this long. There is a weight to it that makes the polished desk rattle, papers flying. There is an overabundance of its contents—so that the burlap rim threatens to burst open.
Naoya gulps as he eyes the - albeit alluring - bag. “D-do you believe the Kingdom of Zenins to have plummeted so far that we hold the need for a single sack of gold?”
The other man chuckles, “Gold?”
And with a single flick at the rim—it’s opening to reveal…sapphires.
A miniature mountain of it.
Such a rare beauty. Naoya had never seen so many in all the treasuries he’d ransacked combined - and his hand it darting out to grasp it—
“This is, of course…merely the advance.” The man places his hand on top of the bag, and slides it discreetly away from the Prince. His fingers twitch towards it, but Naoya can’t do anything with the other man here. “Trust me when I claim that your kingdom will have no shortage of sapphires for the next hundred years. I simply request that you prove your abilities to me.”
That snaps the Prince out of his constant eye-contact with the expensive bag. “Prove?”
His now-client nods. “Prove it. I should hope that the eradication of Prince Yuta shan’t prove too daunting- and for that, I wish to know what other…deeds you have accomplished, Your Highness.”
“The burning of the Inumaki kingdom’s crops.” Naoya immediately blurts out—before he lists off his family’s proud accomplishments as though he was listing off a market list. The other man nods with an unreadable expression. “The…displacement of the Cursed rubies, the demotion of the Ijichi household, the framing and eradication of the Gojo family-”
“Oh?” At that last one, he looks more alert. “Kindly elaborate on that final one, it seems to have ah…piqued my interest.”
Naoya hesitates- before a single glance at the sapphire sack makes him talk once more. “It was prior to my birth, thus the details might not be as adequate. Essentially what happened had to be done- the Gojo royals were advancing their economy in leaps and bounds—far too rapidly, far too soon.”
As he continues, an almost proud smile twitches at his lips.
“It was ingenious- really.” He hums, “Just a few forged letters, just a single meeting with His Majesty-” Naoya gestures vaguely at this palace. “And he became convinced that the Gojos were planning battle over the borders.”
Naoya spits.
“Borders? Pah- what borders?” He’s pacing now, hands clasped behind his back—back turning to the other man as the Prince stares into the licking fireplace. “Come dawn, the palace was painted in red. Ministers. Mongrels. That King and Queen- the cowards begged for mercy, were you aware?”
Silence stretches.
It seems like an eon passes before the man’s answering - in a rough tone that punctures the silence. “I…I was not aware, no.”
Naoya huffs out haughty laughter.
“And what of their son?”
The Prince looks at the other man over his shoulder, brows pinched in confusion. “They had no son.”
“No.” The sword is pulled out of his scabbard. “They hid Gojo Satoru well.”
It embeds deeply in the junction between Naoya’s shoulder and his neck—and his scream is silent. Expression twisted into shock as those final words registered - Gojo Satoru. Even in death, he hears his name.
Much louder than Naoya’s scream was the impact of his cold, dead body hitting the carpeted floor - and almost instantly, Prince Okkotsu Yuta enters the chambers. “I have recorded the confession, uncle, and the troops are storming the Zenin palace as we speak.”
“Good.” Michizane pulls his sword out and watches as blood creates a painting across the brick fireplace and floor. He wipes it off using what would have been Prince Naoya’s engagement robes, and places it back in his scabbard.
Yuta takes a step closer to offer a clean wipe to his uncle, “Should I summon a court meeting at once?”
“No.” Michizane takes it and dabs at the beads of sweat on his forehead. Then he nods at Yuta to collect the bag of precious sapphires, “I have a far more important affair to attend to.”

KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK—!
Both you and Gojo startle awake- and a single glance at the floor-to-ceiling windows reveals sunlight filtering in. A soft breeze rustles the sheer curtains…and Gojo’s beautiful locks right beside you.
It wasn’t the first time that you were waking up next to him.
But it was the first time it was…in such a manner.
You’re tugging on the satin blanket- of which you were wearing nothing underneath. Bare. Barely holding yourself back from him. And Gojo smiles to himself as the thought seems to occur to him, as well, reaching over to kiss you—before wincing at the red, red nail marks that twinged with movement.
You’re leaning in as well—
But then two things occur to you:
It must have been at least midday.
Someone was at the door.
KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK—!
More insistent this time.
The two of you look at each other.
Then at the door.
Then at each other.
Gojo jumps to his feet, throwing off the blankets and attempting to dive underneath your bed- but you’re raising a hand to stop him. Shaking your head imperceptibly. “No…”
“My princess?” Gojo asks.
“I believe there comes a time where one must stop running.” You’re speaking, more to yourself. And in a quick fashion you cross the room to don your satin robe—Gojo manages to bunch up a few blankets that cover his bits. You shake your head and scour for one of his casual night garments from underneath your bed - throwing it at his head.
“For all the princess in the land-”
“Oh, perhaps I ought to hand you to the guards.” The guards that were surely outside. Perhaps waiting to accuse you of treason for shattering the Zenin union. Perhaps ready to embarrass you and your jester in front of the royal courts.
Whatever it shall be - whatever the price may be for loving Gojo Satoru - you’re raising your head high and taking it like a ruler.
You open the doors, and outside stands…
Michizane?
He looks just as startled as you, though he manages out a rough smile. “May I see the ring?”
You’re unsure what he means—and you’re considering telling your guards to escort him away, when Michizane peers inside your bedroom and locks eyes with Gojo. Gojo who seems to startle the instant that blue, blue gaze meets his. Perhaps…
And then he’s stepping forwards- pushing the door open ever-so-slightly further open.
And presenting his left hand - with the silver signet ring still upon it. A hollowed gasp leaves the older man, and he’s clasping Gojo’s hand in his own trembling, timid ones—holding it as though it was the most prized treasure in this world. Buried for eons.
Gojo’s voice sounds scratchy, “I-it is not my possession to don-”
Michizane shakes his head.
“I believe…” He looks between the two of you, bright eyes twinkling with tears. “-that there is much we need to speak of.”

There was to be a royal wedding.
There was to be a royal wedding.
There was to be a royal wedding.
The union between yourself and the long-lost prince of the Gojo kingdom.
After Michizane had explained to you both - let alone an astounded court - that he was the uncle of your beloved jester, that he was titled royalty, and that Gojo himself…was the sole survivor of a gruesome attack that the Zenin family had orchestrated…Gojo didn’t believe it. Not at first.
Not that someone knew his life before this life.
Not that someone had come to…save him. Because Michizane didn’t - to Gojo, it had been you. And it forevermore shall be.
But you could see the fearful hope - almost unwelcome on his face - as Michizane explained that he hadn’t known about the status of the Gojo heir, his nephew, before the engagement ball. He was so young, he must have forced himself to forget such a traumatic ordeal. Thus, it had always been assumed that he had perished along with his brother and his wife—though Michizane couldn’t find a small body amongst the carnage.
And so he had always hoped…always, always…
And it had been the signet ring (looted by the Zenins and gifted to your father, no doubt) that roused his suspicions. Then those eyes. That hair. That smile, like his mother’s.
It had to have been him.
Fearing such an attack, had the late Gojo royals not kept the birth of their son a secret, then his features would have gotten him poisoned before he even stepped foot into the royal court. The cap n’ bells masked more than one would think.
The scheme to expose the Zenins had been planned beforehand - being the only reason that Michizane even attended the ball in-person. And he’d thought that perhaps finding his late nephew’s look-alike had been a good omen.
Had been…
Oh, he just had to confirm it for himself. Especially after Naoya had affirmed that the Zenin’s hadn’t been aware of any son.
Michizane could see the Gojo name in the boy. And so he was right.
Acceptance had taken long hours cooped up in the numerous palace libraries—poring over history books, and rewriting ones that misunderstood.
During this time was when you’d iron-handed your ministers into changing the law that ‘only a prince shall marry a princess’. Of course.
Long days and longer conversations.
Gojo had finally accepted that he was the sole righteous heir to the throne of Gojo by the time he’d ascended to the throne. It had occurred during a coronation too grand for words - of which you were the honored guest, of course.
Michizane had accumulated vast sapphire mines during his time away, and the Gojo kingdom’s infrastructure was soon able to recuperate their losses. Though not all of it…certainly some wounds would take time.
But the first time that Gojo stepped through those familiar palace walls, he cried as if it were a dream. And he’d said as much—“I had believed it was a dream- oh, I believed this was all a dream. This is my home.” As he embraced you in the middle of the royal lobby, you could agree with the sentiment. “You are my home.”
The first portrait that one saw when they entered the palace - moved by Michizane from Gojo’s former chambers to the main hallways - was one of his mother, his father, and Gojo himself.
Just an infant with bright blue eyes and an even brighter smile.
He had his father’s eyes, but his mother’s smile.
After Gojo’s crowning, the borders of the Gojo kingdom were reestablished - all territories and citizens that surrounding kingdoms (as well as yours) had absorbed were handed to their rightful ruler.
His kingdom was new…but building. And fast.
Then Gojo had gotten to work helping right all of the Zenins’ wrongs. He aided in expanding the Inumakis’ agricultural lands, he returned the Cursed rubies that had been embedded in Naoya’s coronet to lord Sukuna, he promoted the Ijichi household’s titles twofold.
And he rebuilt his own family.
Of course, the Zenins themselves met their rightful fate. Prince Yuta had attacked their palace and numerous fortresses, causing those family members to be impounded. Some fled but were quickly caught—in part due to General Yaga’s tireless assistance.
Gojo had insisted that the children grow up in his palace. And though you’d been befuddled at first - most certainly you wouldn’t allow them to be hurt…but as for raising them yourselves over placing them in noble homes - you quickly registered that Gojo simply didn’t want history to repeat itself.
Above all, he took in young Fushiguro Megumi as a ward.
The trials for the other family members were currently ongoing.
But, recently, there was a new event that shook your kingdom.
The wedding.
Not one of political nature…but rather love. No matter the class, position, or power the two of you held—you would always be his princess, and he your best friend- oh alright…your jester. But solely because Gojo still loved to act a-fool to make you laugh.
Your father had no choice but to approve your wedding to such a powerful young King. Why would he risk such strong political ties? Why would he risk your abandonment?
Your people throw snow-white petals of gardenia as the wedding carriage passes through the streets- on its way to a honeymoon voyage before setting down in a newly-built palace between his kingdom and yours. Megumi would live there, too, and of course you’d convinced your most-trusted attendants—Utahime and everyone else that had readied Gojo that night of the engagement ball - to reside there, as well.
Not as servers, but with titles. With General Yaga as your head of guards.
You couldn’t be happier.
Gojo holds your hand. Wedding band on his left ring finger, the Gojo signet on his middle.
Faces beamed and cheers soared as you two passed by in your dream-like carriage—upon a cloud. And though the kingdom had been decorated until one nearly couldn’t spot a single roof, Gojo only had eyes for you.
He’s unabashed as he leans down to publicly kiss you.
Now that he finally could, the boy that had once been jester.
“Satoru.”
“My queen.”
