Afeni Shakur, a political activist, Black Panther, Tupac’s mother and the inspiration behind his song “Dear Mama”, would have been 70 years old today. Sadly she passed away May 6, 2016.

Even though a lot of people only found out about Afeni Shakur through the ballad “Dear Mama”, she will be remembered for much more. She joined the Black Panther Party as a teen in 1968. A large part of her fight and legacy was in letting people know how they could use their constitutional rights.
