“I don’t think of you, you’re being delusional. Are you sure your brother’s the one who’s changed? Because lately, all you do is embarrass yourself like this.” Katherine hissed, her hazel eyes narrowing at the hybrid before her. She was on edge too, not just because of people talking about what had happened these past few weeks, but also because she’d heard several conversations that involved Abraxas. If he was coming to Mystic Falls, then she had to be ready to up and leave this place. There was no way she’d stay here if he was on his way because he’d just try and kill her the way that he’d killed her entire family all those centuries ago. “Why would I be mad at you, Nate? You’re just annoying.”

“How am I embarrassing myself?” Nate shook his head with a soft laugh. “I think we both are aware of what’s happening in town.” He wanted to know more about what had happened with the fear demon. He had fought his own way out of it, but he was nowhere near her during that time--but he knew there was something off about it all. If it wasn’t the whispers that were going around, then it was his gut feeling. “Me? Annoying? What did I do now? Are you starting to admit that you can’t stay away from me? That I’m right?” He looked her over. Reading her expression, he knew he needed to ask the right questions.

Even after all of these weeks, people were still talking about the bad things that had happened in Mystic Falls lately. It was impossible to not pick up on the topics they were talking about since it was pretty much everywhere. Today was no different and Katherine heard some of them talking about the demon that had struck fear in their hearts a while ago. She’d seen Nadia back then, but the only person who knew about that was Ryder and she hadn’t seen him in ages. Well, if he dared to spill her secret, whatever he knew, she wasn’t afraid to strike him down or kill him. Those thoughts were pushed into the background the second Katherine detected the sound of a familiar voice, prompting her to stop in her tracks with an irritated expression. “Do you want something or what? I’m busy.”

Nate watched her carefully. Something didn’t add up, and he needed to find out what it was. Of course, he’d need to tread carefully. Katherine wasn’t someone who was just ordinary and would talk to him just because he asked. So he decided to turn on the charm. Maybe having his brother back into his life was making him soft. But whatever it was, he’d see to it that he’d find those answers. “It’s good to know that you think of me whenever you’re not looking forward to watching me fight,” he smiled, then pursed his lips. “Let me guess... you’re still mad at me?”

“Or maybe I’m just bored, mmh?” she responded, her arms loosely crossing over one another and getting ready to watch Nate in action. “Whatever you might be thinking, I’m not about to step up again the way I did last time. You’re on your own now, big guy, and if you lose… Well, I’m sure there’s a guy around here with a feminine touch to tend to all of your wounds.” the brunette purposely looked around to all of the sweaty and muscular men walking around, smirking as she watched them, then her attention returning to Nate after a couple of moments.

Nate refused to believe that she was just here out of boredom. Out of all the times they had ran into each other, he could tell that there was something else going on. In his eye, she was the one coming to him. Sure, he welcomed the advances but why not? “Mmm, sure. I think I’ve got this one, though. As you probably could tell, I’ve been practicing,” he said, before grabbing the ropes and hopping into the ring.

Nate: I can practically hear the sarcasm dripping from your phone.

Being in a small town, a lot of people talked, and word went around fast. Nate was pretty sure that was the case here, and as time went on, he was more sure of it. Katherine was still someone he hadn’t figured out quite yet. She was something else, she got under his skin, he hated feeling vulnerable around her. He also hated losing. So much for keeping a steady aim. Rubbing over his knuckles, he looked over to his side, spotting the girl. “Good morning,” he mused with a hum.

“About those poor guys, yes.” Katherine corrected him, letting herself walk around the fighting cage slowly and taking in her surroundings. Thanks to her supernatural hearing, she’d still be able to detect Nate’s comments while on her little stroll. “Who said you were my number one pick at all?” she questioned deviously, her eyes soon being pulled towards another man who was stepping up to the fighting cage, which told her that Nate’s next match had to be starting soon. “Don’t get your ass kicked again now, Thompson. I might not jump in to save you this time.”

Nate loosened up his knuckles. “Considering you keep teasing me right now. I’d say, Katherine Pierce, that you do care.” His lips flipped up into a small smirk of a smile and as he jogged over to the next room to get warmed up, he grinned at her over his shoulder, before pausing in his steps. “Want to put a bet on that? I’m certain I can take care of my own ass, but I appreciate the sentiment,”

Katherine: Copying me? How unoriginal of you.

Katherine: I've also seen it before, so that makes it less exciting.

Nate: You must be really cute when you're really worked up like this.

“You’re not winning. Not this game. You can’t beat me at something I invented.” Katherine responded confidently, which was something she wholeheartedly meant. She was good at playing games and whenever she did it with Nate, she was usually on the winning end of it and that only made it more fun for her. “What if I am, mmh? What are you gonna do if I find another hot fighter that I plan to take home with me? One that’s not you.” she was curious about his reaction because she was pretty sure she’d relish in it, so the vampire kept her eyes on the hybrid at all times. She slowly looked him over while dragging the tip of her index finger along his chest, making sure she traveled across every inch.

“We’ll see. Like I’ve mentioned before, I enjoy a challenge,” Nate said with a soft hum. He would entertain her for a moment before making his own move. He just had to figure out when to make his move. “Since you don’t want me to go around punching other guys, it must mean you actually do care, huh?” he smiled, watching her reaction and as she dragged her fingers down his chest. “You’ll just have to watch me win first before anything,” he smiled. “Are you going to pick a prizefighter or am I still your number one pick?”

“Who says I didn’t come back here to watch you lose? And hey, already there because you’re definitely losing, baby.” Katherine continued to taunt. Of course, she wasn’t referring to him losing a fight, more so him losing this game. Well, all of their games, really. Somehow, Katherine always had him right where she wanted him, so how could she not marvel at that? “Still embarrassing yourself, I see.” the vampire sighed, unable to mask that smirk that appeared on her lips. She moved back slightly, slowly rounding the tall hybrid, just for the fun of it. “It’s like you want me to take advantage of you, so really, who keeps coming back to who?”

“Are you sure about that?” Nate said slowly. He wasn’t going to hide the fact that he was enjoying this. But he had to get focused again, and Katherine wasn’t helping with that either. “You’re here now, aren’t you?” he grinned, motioning for her to follow him as he grabbed his gear to get ready for the sparring match. Even though there were no bets involved, he still needed to keep his head in the game. Still, he couldn’t help himself. “Are you complaining about me enjoying you presence then?” he asked, with a smirk.

“I don’t wait for anyone, Nathaniel Thompson. Not even you. Sad to say that was your only chance.” Katherine released a semi large breath, rolling her brown eyes as she took a step away from him. “Who says I came to cheer you on? I mean, since you clearly just said I had to wait. Maybe it’d be more worth my time to be someone else’s cheerleader instead. Anyone you’d recommend?” she questioned, looking around at all of the sweaty and half naked men walking around, prompting her to bite down on her bottom lip. This was like heaven to Katherine - surrounded by males who were here to fight, to prove that they were the strongest and they looked damn good while doing it. Besides, she knew that their blood was hot while it pumped through their veins, making it more alluring. She could almost taste it at this point and it just made her crave it more.

After another moment, the brunette’s eyes shifted back towards Nate and she soon patted her hand against his chest with a soft laugh. She hadn’t ever heard him say anything like that and part of her wondered why he did it now. Had something changed for him or was it just the fact that he was inside the fight club with his testosterone running high that made him act like that? “Oh, don’t be jealous and embarrass yourself, Nate. You’re not gonna punch anyone.”

“You came here wanting to see a fight, so that’s what you’ll get,” Nate replied, shoulders relaxed with his arms over his chest. Then his eyes narrowed and what was this he was feeling? Jealousy? Never. He didn’t do that and they didn’t do that because they were nowhere near that. The other guys around them were staring and Katherine could have her choice of fighter to cheer for, but why was he getting so worked up over it?

“I’m not jealous. I’m just stating the fact that you keep coming back to me after all this time. If you’re going to tease me. I might as well get some enjoyment after it again,” a small smirk appeared on his lips and he leaned in slowly, hovering over her lips again. “Are you going to watch or not?” he asked, before pulling away slowly. “I tell you what,” he smirked again. “I beat this guy and you can feed from him, then you can have anything from me afterwards.”

“Did you already forget about what I told you earlier? Whatever we do and whenever we do it will always be on my terms.” Katherine reminded him, her eyes going over his half naked form without even trying to conceal it. Why would she? She was a fan of the male body, so when there was one right before her, she’d show her appreciation without any shame. “You may have trained him, but that was to be a hunter. How are you gonna train him to be a hybrid when you’ve barely been one yourself? Hunters don’t struggle with bloodlust and tearing someone’s neck out the way that vampires do. You know he’s gonna slip and go off the rails eventually. Should be fun though.” the brunette shrugged, that devious smile instantly coming back to her lips. The thought of Nate’s brother giving into his vampire nature was enticing to Katherine because she didn’t see the point in trying to suppress what they truly were - not the way Caroline and Stefan always tried to do. She’d always found it stupid - craving blood was a natural thing for vampires, why try to pretend they were something that they weren’t? Since you keep bringing up the cheerleading outfit… Katherine moved in on cue, her body lightly pressing against Nate’s as she took his hand with her own, slowly guiding it beneath her skirt to let his fingers explore. “Maybe…”

“Of course,” Nate said. He knew this is what she wanted but he could play along too. He didn’t flinch as her eyes looked over his body. “You still underestimate me, don’t you?” his eyebrows raised. The transition hadn’t been easy for either of them, but he believed in his brother and he knew he had taught him well. This was how they had survived in the first place. And it wasn’t an entirely a bad thing for them to hunt and feed, which is at least what Nate had been telling himself. It was a complicated feeling, going from the need to take and kill into being protective of Sebastian, and yes, Katherine too.It raised a lot of questions but there was still plenty or time for that later. Lowering his head to meet her eyes another small smirk pulled onto his features, as she pulled his hand under her skirt. He learned quickly enough not to be surprised by a lot of things. These cravings now not only had increased his bloodlust, but his sex drive as well. “I could do many things right now, but as it is... you’ll have to wait, Katherine Pierce,” he smiled at her, pulling his hand away slowly after giving her a tease. “If you wanted to come watch and cheer me on, just know I’d punch any guy who tries to take you home with him. Just making that clear.”

“Well, we both know that you’re a pro when it comes to sparring at this point.” Katherine teased, obviously referring to herself. That was what they did more often than not - spar. But not in the way that he did with the other fighters here at the club. Their sparring was simply verbal, though the brunette wouldn’t back down from a fight if she ever had to get into one with Nate. “Nah, just here to watch you lose again. And you know, step in to save your ass… again.” she loosely crossed her arms over her chest, looking the hybrid over while listening to him talk about his brother. “You’d be surprised at how much he’s changed. He’s no longer just a werewolf, remember? Do you think he doesn’t have a lust for blood right now? That he’s fine and not fighting any kind of urges that vampires have? You disappoint me, Nate. I thought you knew better than that.”

Nate smirked. They had their moments, sure, but he had to admit that he enjoyed their playful banter, even when it was just that--banter. Superficial beyond anything else. “Mmm, and if I don’t lose? Do I get to chose the terms?” he stepped up to her slowly. “Because I’m not out there to lose. You should know me by now,” he grinned. “I know. But he learned from me. He’s survived all this time because I trained him. I never said that. I meant he has much more control than I do. He also hasn’t had much of your influence, you know,” he smirked more. “Unlike me, which I’m starting to think you can’t stay away from me anymore. “So if I win, do I get to see you in my bed with that cheerleader outfit? Or is it just for show?”
