deal with the consequences

Something was definitely off. Had he, had he done something wrong? Amycus searched his mind for anything that might’ve warranted this from Nate, Nate the closest thing to a brother he’d ever had. All the old, ugly doubts stirred in the back of his mind. Had Nate found about what his father considered childrearing and deemed him unfit for friendship? Am knew it would happen eventually but he’d sort of hoped for more time before it hit.
“That does… that does kinda bite it, yeah.” He said, uncertain of just about everything at the moment..
At a certain point, one can notice that their best friend is uncomfortable. Nathaniel had reached that point. He could tell that Amycus could tell that something was off, not that he was hiding it exactly, but even if he’d been lying smoothly Amycus could probably figure out that something was wrong. At least, that was the case for Nate. Nate had never really wanted a brother because he felt that he had one, and even better than that, he had a chosen brother, inseparable since they were children, and part of being so close with someone was that sometimes you fought, and sometimes, if you were a real friend, you had to confront your friends about their actions.
So Nathaniel figured that he’d end the discomfort and tension forming between the two of them, stop beating around the bush, and get to the point. However, the words felt heavy in his throat, and he couldn’t really look at his friend when he spoke them. “Hey, so, uh, I heard about hat happened with Millenia.” He paused and looked up. “And the cut, and stuff...”
